Airplane Plane

The plane in your dream shows all the amazing possibilities of change, of varied experience, of romance, business and discovery in life today. But it also holds all the possibilities of failure, of not being able to get your projects or relationship off the ground, along with delays, unexpected threats, and the possible tragedy and loss you might meet in life. Your dream airplane communicates this in the action your dream portrays. The plane journey, for instance, suggests a change in your life, leaving your ordinary affairs behind. It is a journey into the unknown, into taking risks. Perhaps you are making a move toward, or away from, love and opportunity. It is risky because the plane can fall from the sky, and you can meet feelings of failure or despair.

A plane can also attack, and this shows fears, anxiety about being exposed to attack from other people or events. This does not mean you will be attacked, only that you fear it.

To climb aboard a plane is to embark upon dramatic movement from one way of life, or one situation in life, to another; a leap into the unknown, into chance – so it is a powerful symbol of change. Perhaps that flight into chance, into life and its mysterious possibilities might be okay. But it might fall from the sky too. Meanwhile, on the plane you will not have your feet on the ground, you will not be secure, everything is ‘up in the air’. The plans, the love, the hopes and efforts might die, might lead to tragedy with all its rippling effects moving into the web of relationships and events connected with the flight of the plane.

In exploring a dream about a plane crash it took a long time to really connect with anything, but when I did the feelings were all about how there has been a crash of my dreams, ambitions, desire for love and the heightened feelings that arose or ‘took off’ in connection with a lover. In comments on planes above I say, “The plans, the love, the hopes and efforts might die, might lead to tragedy with all its rippling effects moving into the web of relationships and events connected with the flight of the plane.” This was true in my life.

An attacking aircraft: Feeling attacked either by your own doubts and self criticism, or that of others.

Being grounded: Sense of not getting anywhere and frustration; plans and hopes that haven’t connected with achievement or opportunity – maybe this isn’t the right time yet.

Biplane: It can represent a more full contact with flying in a plane, and needs a lot more courage to do.

Example: “I saw a biplane fly overhead. Its pilot was performing daring new stunts. I ran into a house to tell a man who was in bed to run out and see the plane. ” David R.

The example clearly shows one aspect of what a biplane means, being daring in a new area, taking risks in life, braving a new work area or relationship.

Difficulty landing: Difficulty achieving goal or making it real in a down to earth way; anxiety about where life events are taking you; feeling out of control or not being in control; difficulties or fears about being in someone else’s hands.

Falling out of plane: Usually anxiety, sometimes about death or failure of high hopes. It is also the opportunity to fly if you can overcome your anxieties.

Flight attendant: A part of you trained in dealing with personal problems, and also emergencies.

Pilot: The pilot is a part of you used to having a much wider and inclusive view of where you are going in your life, so trust their help.

Plane falling rapidly: ‘Pit’ feeling in stomach that one gets when feeling anxiety about the outcome of a situation; sense of failure or guilt; apprehension about the future of a project or direction; anxiety about something.

Plane journey: The plane is also a means of leaving things behind, rising above or finding a way of escaping difficulties or the past. It is a way we move beyond the limitations of any one locality, racial customs, family attitudes or religious environments. It is the power of the mind to move among and learn from or experience these many states of being. It offers a much wider or more inclusive view of where you are and where you are going in life.

Private plane: Ones personal activities and plans not deeply connected with other people.

The crashed or wrecked plane: Worry about failing. Can be anxiety bringing down your ambition or adventurousness; a loss of self confidence or mental equilibrium; warning about a business project; broken dreams and hopes. Sometimes shows or refers to a break up in a relationship or a failed endeavour, a hope, a journey that fails.

Watching a plane crash: A sense of emergency; feeling you are aware of an important social or national event. Sensing something difficult happening or having happened in your life, like a divorce or loss of business or love for instance. Can sometimes relate to childhood traumas that make it difficult for you to get your life taking flight.

The plane journey: Shows a move toward independence; leaving home or friends; success.

Watching a plane land safely: The arrival back to oneself of the actions, words and energies sent out into the world. As a simple example, we may have a carpet to give away because we are moving. We tell a neighbour who passes the information to someone else. This new person wants the carpet. A completely new person therefore lands, or arrives in our life. The landing plane may also mean coming down to earth again, or making something more applicable in an everyday sense.

The example below clearly shows one aspect of what a plane means, being daring in a new area, taking risks in life, braving a new work area or relationship. David is calling on a part of himself that is withdrawn and inactive to ‘get up’ and be involved in something daring. Sometimes the plane in the sky represents feeling threatened by something new or unknown. This is shown in the second example.

Example: I saw a biplane fly overhead. Its pilot was performing daring new stunts. I ran into a house to tell a man who was in bed to run out and see the plane. David R.

Example: A woman who was a radio researcher was offered the job of presenter. She was thrilled but dreamt she was in a road walking and planes flew overhead dropping bombs and shooting. She had to dive into a ditch to avoid being killed. When she explored the dream she realised she was afraid of facing the public directly, and this fear if left unconscious would have caused her to refuse the job. She accepted the fear and managed to press forward with the job.

Useful Questions and Hints:

Am I taking a ‘flight’ into a new or challenging situation or relationship?

What am I leaving behind or arriving at?

Are there radical shifts of life style I am involved in?

Do some events in my life feel like a ‘plane crash’?

I woke from a dream this morning that is bothering me a bit. I dreamed that I was sitting at a beachside restaurant in italy (ive never been to italy) looking out onto the ocean and suddenly I saw a large white plane fall into the water. The impact was immediate and pieces of the plane began breakinh off and skittering across the water. Bits of wing and wheels were the most prominent items. Suddenly the wheels were in the streets and people were running panicked and scared but I felt calm. I watched a wheel stop and went and picked it up. I wanted to keep it as a souveneir ( which bothers me) I picked up the wheel which was much smaller than it should have been almost like a pram sized wheel and walked away with it quite pleased with my ‘trophy’. I had a mental picture in my mind inside the dream of a plane on tarmac with a man directing it to the runway and the size of the man in comparison to the wheel meant I couldnt possibly be carrying it as easily as I was doing. I never questioned the safety of the people on the plane it didnt even cross my mind it was like all I was interested in was getting my wheel to take home. Does this mean I am selfish? Is my dream somehow trying to tell me I only care about myself?thank you I would appreciate any feedback. I know dreams are sometimes just dreams but this one has bothered me a lot. I keep thinking about it so any comments would be appreciated

Guddu – 99% of the time dreams do not predict future, but are a mirror of what you feel and fear. So it seems to me that you are capable doing well but are frightened of failure, so you dream of planes crashing. So stop feeling tense and use something like http://dreamhawk.com/body-and-mind/the-breath-meditation/

I’ve had 3 dreams all back to back dealing with plane crashes. The first one was the night before last, it started off with my family and I in a tall apartment building I look outside the window and a plane is coming straight for the building, I watch the plane hit my family and I make it out alive but I wake up as I’m running aways from the building before it collapses on me. The second and third dream happened last night. The second I vaguely remember it but I do remember being on a plane and having to make some dramatic exit from it. The third was my family and I were all in a city when a group of men came and offered us to do some weird activity it led us to being on a plane, we had no idea we were going on this plane and weren’t sure where we were going, all of a sudden the plane blows up (mot sure how) but I pull the hijack on my seat (turns out my chair had a parachute and I land in Illinois. Now Illinois plays a big role in my life I used to live there, and I have a friend who still does live there, we’ve loved each other forever, known each other our entire lives and have always wanted something more (yes I have visited her a few years back) but we have both decided to have a current relationship in our respective cities which sucks because we can’t talk to each other on account of wanting to stay true to our newer relationship. Although I messed things up with her I’m trying to fix it but she wants to focus on here relationship now. We’ve both spoken about the goal of one day being able to be together in the same city but we both know right now is not the right time for that. I just found it weird I landed there is all, maybe my situation has something to do with it?

-peng2x 2014-07-15 22:15:34

Pls. Help me interpret my dream…

Im riding an airplane and after a while the pilot said we are here to take off now. While im going down because everybody is waiting for me on the ground. When i go down i saw 6 new friends, then a double wedding near the place we landed off. Then, it turned out that i fall in love with one of the crews in the plane. However, before i woke up, i saw my classmate in high school, who is a seaman now and a godfather of my child, we both holding hands anf very happy in love. Im a married woman. Pls. I want to know the meaning of this dream. Thank you…

    -Tony Crisp 2014-07-21 14:11:50

Peng – Riding the airplane suggests you are experiencing a change in the way you feel. It is a change that makes you see more possibilities in your life. But coming down to earth again in your thinking it leads you to try to make new friends. You feel it would be nice to fall in love and marry again

So you may be hoping that the dream is some sort of indication that he still wants to be with you. I can only pass on what I see happens when someone has such a dream. There is such a huge difference between our inner life and outer life. Our inner life often tries to digest or integrate the experience of a relationship, or/and we live out the things we would love to happen. You realise how happy someone can be in a relationship, so you can’t help wondering if it could happen to you.

But dreams are like a seed, it is something that comes from a deep part of you; it is something that is working upwards toward being conscious. As such it often, like a seed, and it takes time to break through to the surface, and then it has to grow. So often dreams are not recognised for their full meaning until later – sometimes months or even longer. But the dream is about a possibility in your life and so it might not happen unless you work at it to make it come true.

From past one week that i m flying but due to some problem always have a emergency landing but i always land safely. What does it mean?

-stacy 2014-06-24 12:42:08

I just woke up from a dream this morning where I was on a plane, and there were several attempts to take off, but they were all unsuccessful. It’s strange. The plane would take off and gain a little bit of altitude, then come back down to the runway again.

I was on an airplane with my family. I’m unsure of the destination, but know it was going to be an 8-hour flight. I was nervous (I have a real fear of flying), but somehow I remained calm as the plane took off at least six or seven different times. I remember the first few attempts were by a pilot who appeared maneuvered the plane like a drunk man would drive a car. The plane skidded off the runway in a hurry took off, gained a little bit of altitude, then came back down. After a few attempts, they removed the pilot from the plane and replaced him.

A second pilot had a few failed attempts, and then a third. I remember starting to feel anxious about it, as if there was a problem with the plane and not the pilots. My family and I switched seats a few times on the plane as well, as if that would miraculously make the plane take off correctly.

I woke up shortly after. I was wondering if this dream could signify a failure in career choices, but then I realized it could also mean relationships, or projects I’ve started and left uncompleted. I’m definitely at a time in my life where I feel very “stuck.” Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I just had a dream that a personal jet was flying over my house, swaying heavily side to side, hard nose up, engines are full throttle. I just watching it with my family…but my house wasnt right it was all sandy, my house is surrounded by trees and grass haha. I watched the plane crash into a warehouse parking lot and explode across the street…which is strange because I live in a residential community.

I was just moved from grave yard, to 2nd shift at work and its really sandy there, so that might explain the same…but not the warehouse or anything else…

Help?? Haha

I had a dream that I robbed a mall with many different peope, most of them are Koreans (I’m not Korean). Long story short. We all went to a corner where there are many buttons then there’s a huge airplane on the top of the mall. A guy pressed a button then we started cheering because the plane is about to take off, but it didn’t. Well now, I’m expecting some kind of disappointment in real life.

    -Tony Crisp 2014-05-26 7:17:49

Eyoeyoeyo – Real life? Okay, but without consciousness the whole world and cosmos disappears for you. So the only reality is actually your conscious awareness of your experience. And your experience according to science is that the outer world we are so certain is the real world, is not as solidly real as we believe. To quote a recent report, “Color, for instance: That azalea outside the window may look red to you, but in reality it has no color at all. The red comes from certain properties of the azalea that absorb some kinds of light and reflect other kinds of light, which are then received by the eye and transformed in our brains into a subjective experience of red.

Our sense that the colors and sounds exist “out there” and not merely in our brain is a convenient illusion that long ago increased the survival chances of our species. Powered by Darwin, modern science proceeds, in Dennett’s phrase, as a “universal corrosive,” destroying illusions all the way up and all the way down, dismantling our feelings of freedom and separate selfhood, our morals and beliefs, a mother’s love and a patient’s prayer: All in reality are just “molecules in motion.” But what they do not say because they want – I think – to be clever and intellectual, is that therefore everything is part of our inner world, and we do not actually directly see or know anything, except what the brain interprets. But something else they for some reason miss seeing or saying, is that we all create the world we see or sense as outside us. In other words, we are the creators. I say it again in case you missed it – You Are the Creator of all you see or sense around you. Also what they miss explaining in their statements are things that are part of many people’s life. They usually describe these as mental or psychological illusions, and any actual experience that cannot be produced in a laboratory are either squashed or denied. See http://dreamhawk.com/body-and-mind/the-next-step-criticisms/ for examples.

The only reality is what you feel is real or what you believe. If you believe you are in for a disappointment, well, that is a world you are creating. As I wrote to another person, “There is another way however – there always is. It’s an old Chinese trick taught me by ‘an old Chinese man’. There are always opposites in every life situation, and often we get caught up in fighting the opposite, often with little result. The other way in your case is to step out of the scene you paint of your sense of failure and take another route.

I remember years ago as I started my second marriage and felt like hell, I visited the local fortune teller. Her puzzled response was that she could see no good future for me. It was so true I sank even deeper into the hell I felt. Then after a day of that I realised that all the fortune teller was doing was reflecting back at me what I felt. I could change the way I felt and so create a different future. I did and I have. See http://dreamhawk.com/news/avoiding-being-my-own-victim/

Hi! I had this dream that I’m going on a plane with some people that I know but they are not with me. I wait to see where they will sit and I get a seat next to a couple. The seat that I get is turned the other way around facing them. We talk and having a good time and then I say ‘Where are we going?’ the girl answers “I don’t know but let’s not look at the ticket, it will be a surprise when we get there” I agree and the plane takes off. because my seat is turn the other way I’m hanging down (it’s scary) trying to keep my self in the chair. that plane does this numerous of times (takes of, going upwards and flying straight) and for each time it gets harder and harder to keep my self in the chair and not fall. I’m now hanging from the chair fighting as hard as I can to not fall and there is something wrong. The plane can’t flight straight again because it’s waiting for something. Finally the plane goes up straight again and it have now landed at a dead end. Seams like we are having problems to get to the destination.

I would love to know what this means!! It’s seams like I will have difficulties with my new plans in life. Please help me Xx

I forgot to say that I have plans of going overseas, leaving everything to take the next step of building my career and life. I’m not sure where yet but I want to travel and at the same time doing my dream job.

Hey Sir,
Please help me. This has started last week.. First i got a dream where i was going in car with my friend (friend is driving) and police caught us and asked us to pay $130 as fine. As my frnd forgot his purse. I started roaming on road searching for ATM machine.

Second : i was with someone (i dont really remember with whom i was in car). He doesnt know driving but he told me that he knows and we started from parking lot. The car skid as there is lot of ice and it just scratched another car ..

3rd : looks like its cricket world cup final. Im on plane every one praying for their Team to win. Match started and it was going fine. All of a sudden we saw something really bright which stopped the match for sometime. Scientists did something and tried to send it to somewhere else.. While it was going above us it was taking water too. It was like tsunami .. Water came up so high that it even crashed the plane. Piliot tried to move up as far as possible but water totally drowned us. Couple of mins later i see myself on ground with no wounds. I was perfectly alright and i see plan parts here and there and ppl are coming to look after their people. I saw couple of my relatives too.

Im scared and dont know why all these happening to me. Please help

In 1 of the dreams I’ve seen airport with so many planes standing from where I took one & was excited about journey but when it take off it was so difficult to fly for that plane & then it hit tower of 1 building. I was having this view from ground & all get panic rushing here & there but at last we all were safe.
In 2nd I was in the air enjoying my journey with other unknown passengers having view of the beautiful city its building river but in between some another plane hit mine & then the plane start falling, the felling was unimaginable but at last I landed safely. Plz describe the meaning.

Ok so I have had this one recurring dream I have had since I was a lad. It is always the same. I witness a plane crash and wake up right after. Last night same dream. But this time debris zooms past my leg, there is explosion, I land in a ditch in dirt, and must have been burned. Either my wife or my mother rushes over to cover me and I scream in pain. Then I woke up.

-Jacqueline 2014-04-04 13:44:56

I just had a dream that I was flying in a plane. I wasn’t flying with anyone I knew. All the sudden the engine stopped and I just started praying that my kids would know I loved them and that my family would be okay. The plane fell and then we landed fine. Everyone on the plane was fine we all got off alive. What does this mean?

    -Tony Crisp 2014-04-06 9:46:53

Jacqueline – Such dreams are a gentle reminder of what it would be like if you were dying. They tell you how much you love your family. It is also a way of telling you that you need to tell your children how much you love them frequently.

There’s nothing quite like a dream – or nightmare – like this to shake you at the core. I’ve just one involving a multiple plane crash and it brought me to this website looking for answers to what it means?

I think I’m on beach, or just viewing the scene which is on a beach. There’s a feeling around the beginning of the dream of “here we go again” – like I can remember the similar dreams involving plan crashes I’ve had in the past.

A plane comes in and it’s flying really low. People on the beach are noticing, and looking at it I assess whether the plane is actually fine because I’ve seen a picture where planes fly that low to land at a nearby airport. But it’s not normal, it’s in trouble and I’m gripped to watch – like the fascination of watching plane crashes but always underestimating how much it will affect my emotions.

Anyway the plane misses the sand and people and prepares to land on the water, and as it does it becomes apparent that this IS the runway for taking off (maybe landing as well). The plane is going too slow though and doesn’t land in the allotted time it has before the next plane comes to off take off. I can’t remember if they crash or if the second one tries to steer around it which crashes into a third plane. There’s a lot of fire and I really take note of the moments before and after, because I kind of used to retreat from the reality of situations during a bad childhood so I do that by habit in life. All in all there’s 3 planes involved in this accident but one is affected a bit less badly than the other 2 – I imagine survivors with stories to tell afterward.

The last part of the dream is me inspecting it, but weirdly I’m on a log flume and with my mother. We’re headed over to the scene in this roller coaster cart steadily fast but before that we have to experience the drops of the roller coaster (I feared them so much as a kid). Then we’re there, it’s really dark, the roller coaster is passing between the wrecked planes and its so real looking at them – I kind of want to feel the reality because I’m sick of being numb but I obviously can’t handle the reality. My mother says “look there’s a dead body” and I kind of start to look then shield myself, she says it again but I know I’m not going to look.

We’re out of the wreckage and I’m looking back at the crash site from the beach, it’s lighter now. The last thing I remember is realising that the bottom wrecked plane (one is underneath another now) is a yellow plane saying “coco cobana” and stuff – a friendly holiday looking plane that I’ve never been on but I have definitely seen it. I don’t actually remember seeing it in life on reflection but at the time it was like “there’s that plane, I know that plane” like it’s one of a kind or at least one of few like a small local airline or something.

I wake up after reflecting on how planes must “all crash in the end” and how that is contrary to an air crash disaster programme I watched a while ago – – or general hear’say – which kind of gives you the impression that plane crashes don’t happen to you. They happen to others and they’re so so rare.

    -Jas 2014-06-03 19:44:31

The first paragraph of this is basically exactly the same as my ‘dream’ tonight. Except I am facing east (land) and planes from behind (west) 3 planes in total, flying extremely low. For some reason I am the only one concerned that it might be dangerous.. All of a sudden one plane tried to land and ends up vertical with one plane vertical on top and the other vertical next to it. All of a sudden I’m surrounded by people who I feel are my friends (but cannot tell who they are), but as we head over to help we realise who ever was on the planes are ‘attacking’ us. Not sure if it means anything but the attackers where all wearing sandy coloured clothing. Somehow we found a crack in the concrete grand stand and hid underneath just observing.. And then I woke up. I’m so confused I have never had a dream like this before and when I woke up I was filled with a sense of panic! Hmm so strange!

      -Tony Crisp 2014-06-06 8:29:06

Jas – Have you recently started a new job or a new venture? The reason I ask is because the planes often indicate something happening or scaring you ‘out of the blue’. In other words you might be afraid that whatever you are doing will either not succeed or you are frightened of other peoples attack or opinion. Maybe suddenly like feeling exposed.

Therefore you hide rather than stand up for what you are doing or what you think or believe in.

      Tony

-Mary 2014-02-13 20:17:29

I recently had a dream where I realize in the airport that I forgot my shoes on the airplane so I leave my husband in the airport and when i go back to retrieve my shoes, the doors shut behind me and the crew tells me I can’t get off. I’m screaming and crying pleading with them to let me off (I’m also a very nervous flier so I don’t want to be on the plane at all). I told them that I need to get off and I’m terrified. I also remember telling them that my husband would be worried about me and I need to get back to him. A lot of anxiety.

I’m currently undergoing a job transition and I think this has to do with my anxieties surrounding the promotion/moving on and leaving my comfort zone.

    -Tiff 2014-03-30 0:16:59

Simply put- (in my opinion, anyway) the plane represents your promotion. It’s a vehicle that will take you to new heights. You getting on the plane symbolizes you at work. Your shoes are a necessity (so is work) so you get on the plane (your promotion) b/c it’s an important daily ritual. I think you’re afraid of being consumed by work that you neglect your husband. Make sure in your reality that you do keep your family or marriage taken care of first. This is a natural fear into the unknown and it’s good you have apprehension. If you didn’t, you’d be dead inside! Hope this helps!

      -Tony Crisp 2014-03-30 12:06:09

      Thanks Tiff.
