Bend

Usually change, maybe changes in direction or effect as with bend in a road. Perhaps a bend might indicate loss of power or effectiveness, a giving way. Also to bend something means to use force or effort to change, influence or gain power over something or someone. See: bend in road.

Bending over depends on what you are feeling in the dream or what action follows. It can suggest taking an attitude of softer feelings as when bending down to be at the height of a child, submission, or the openness of the female bending forward in a sexual acceptance. Or the male posture of desire or dominance. Bending down can also be a posture in which you hide or are less obvious.

To bend is also to change your posture and so change the situation you are in – different things can then happen.

The example shows another aspect. The dreamer, Simon, is obviously in a vulnerable position such as lying down, and being bent over is threatening. He had a very difficult childhood and tried to escape from it by stopping eating.

Example: In my childhood, aged between about five or ten, I used to dream about being on a roof with an archetypal witch figure bending over me. Pointing a very long finger-nailed hand at me – giving me an ‘I’m going to get you’ feeling. Simon.

Idioms: around the bend; bend over backwards; bend the rules; bend your ear; bend your elbow; go around the bend.

Useful Questions and Hints:

What is the central feeling or theme in my dream – and how does that relate to me?

What am I doing, or what is being done in the posture?

Who else or what else is involved?

I had a dream he other night where there was an old friend of mine in my driveway & I was with my boyfriend & other friends. I don’t actually know this old friend, I don’t recognize them but they looked / sounded a lot like my coworker Marcus. I ran up to him & started to tell him about how I missed him & I hadn’t seen him in a while. The old friend was extremely tall, towering around 7 or 8 feet tall. He was originally in front of me but then I moved to the left of my boyfriend & that’s when the old friend bent down & kissed me on the left side of my forehead(at my temple). My boyfriend looked over & that’s when the old friend walked in front of us, picked us up with one hand on each of our arms & placed our arms together as he put us down. My boyfriend & I then started to have sex but it was strange. It was broad daylight (sometime in the afternoon, probably around 5pm) & our friends were still outside near us. We were at the front of my driveway & my boyfriend was holding me with his hands under my thighs & my legs were wrapped around his waist. I told him a car was coming, as I saw a 90s Saturn SR2or SRC white sedan turning on the road & I said we should move closer to the back yard.
I understand most of the symbolism, as Marcus both means hammer & is a sign for Mars, in which case my boyfriend is a Scorpio. I don’t understand the bending down of the old friend, which is why I found it most appropriate to post this here. Any Feed back is welcome

Hi – It would help you to understand your dreams, if you would read – http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/questions-2/#Summing and also http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/features-found-on-site/ which has so much information in.

Nothing can replace your own ability to understand your dream. With a little effort you can do this by practising what is described in – http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson or http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/getting-at-your-dreams-meaning/

Laura – Dreams are not understood by thinking about them. They arise from a level of our awareness before thinking. Dreaming started at least twenty millions years ago before humans were around. So – Marcus both means hammer & is a sign for Mars – is way off. Dream images are like icons on a computer screen – you have to ‘click’ on your dream images to make them come alive. Thinking about them doesn’t work. You need to open yourself to the magic of them.

The old friend represents a part of your nature you are not yet fully aware of. That he is seven or eight feet tall is telling you that he is a very big and important part. See http://dreamhawk.com/interesting-people/animal-children/#Program

Example: Suddenly, and with some apprehension, I realised the meaning of this interesting dream that my unconscious had been communicating. I am a bubble. My personal awareness, although it seems distinct and separate, is in fact the reflection of one great giant consciousness pervading the universe. So who am I when my bubble bursts, as it must, and I return to my source? The fear I first felt has long melted. It has been replaced by joy as I have explored what it means to burst and return home. The giant is now a part of my life.

This bigger part of you is saying that it is right that you and your boyfriend should be together. Those feelings lead to a form of sexual union that stand beyond everyday morals. The giant bending down and kissing you suggests that his higher level of awareness is coming down and becoming a part of you – if you will accept it. See http://dreamhawk.com/news/touched-by-wonder/
