What does my dream mean? – How to explore your dream meanings:

There are several ways you can understand the meanings held in your dreams, and there are several levels. The first is an easily understood level, followed by greater depths:

  1. You can enter a key word in the search box above. The Dream Dictionary contains interpretations on almost any type of dream subject. So if you dreamt of a flying saucer landing in a field, and aliens getting out and taking a baby,  a snake, and a pregnant dog back into the saucer, you could search separately for each of these subjects in the Dream Dictionary. Find the entry for flying saucer; then the entry for dog, baby,  snake,  pregnant, and so on. For each entry, find further related entries by looking under “Similar Articles” on the right hand side of the page.
  2. Each entry gives the general meaning of the dream subject, just as an encyclopedia or dictionary does for a word. Several possible meanings are given. This is because as with our speech the position of the word – the context – gives it special meanings. So a hot dog would be quite different to a black dog, dog-end or dead dog. So when you read an entry which has several different meanings, sometimes with a ‘;’ between, it simply means any one of them could apply. So you need to think about the feelings in your dream, the context, the other imagery used. Please do not fall  into the trap that one reviewer made of saying that the whole dictionary is about sex. Of course sex is one meaning among many others. So use your own sense of your dream as well as any definitions given.
  3. If you are writing in comments for a dream interpretation, please describe the dream as fully as you can,  and if it is relevant add your age your life and situation.
  4. To really explore the meaning it is useful to use the Dream Dictionary as it is designed, rather than arrive at a ‘thought out’ interpretation. To see a working example of this see ‘Dream Interpretation Example One’.
  5. Remember too that when you are dreaming you are in a completely different environment, completely unlike waking life. To read a description of this and its possibilities  see What We Need to Remember About Dreaming;  Dream Yoga‘Dream Interpretation Example Two’ and The Magical Dream Machine.
  6. This Online Dream Dictionary is constantly being upgraded, so please give us feedback about any dream symbols missing, and any dreams you have understood.
  7. Unlike many online dream sites, DreamHawk has tremendous depth, with a full Dream Encyclopedia available. You can access this by searching for any word and getting a full sample of features. There is also the list ‘Similar Articles’ to explore that appears alongside any feature or symbol you search for.
  8. If you want to learn the wonder and depth of dreams and dream interpretation, here are a series of features to explain. See Exploring Your Dreams – Steps in Understanding Your Dreams; Here is an audio example of Tony exploring a dream, not interpreting it: Dream Exploration.
  9. Remember that a full dream dictionary is available to download with iPhone ; and as the classic Dream Dictionary book .

    Hi Stacy,

    Your dream has several meanings
    1. there are people who have hidden agendas involving you male and female.
    2. Temptation may be something you are trying to hide in your thoughts but it will come to light should you choose not to resist your impulse – e.g giving into cravings, wild sex instead of lovemaking with a loved one to build a deeper connection , spending money without thought.
    3. hidden Wisdom the serpent is a symbol of Egyptian wisdom an in Indian culture the serpent is the energy that rises up from the base of the spine opening chakras google this to understand it better Yoga.

Just as a joke perhaps a spring clean under your bed have a mallet just incase there really is a snake there, not that I wish to frighten you.

Hope this gives you some clarity regarding your dream.
    Thanks lol :)
p.s please do not email the address I have provided but your welcome to post a reply on this site and i will interpret any of your dreams. Have a good day wishing you peace and happiness.

Stacy – It depends what the snake is doing under your bed. Is it sleeping, struggling, crawling up on to the bed?

In general snakes are the energy of Life that has grown you from a seed in your mothers womb. But such energy can become dangerous when we express it as hateful or destructive emotions.

    Hi Diana,

Your boyrfiends dream means, you both love one another very much. You both were searching for the beautiful things inside each other and have found each other on a deeper spiritual level. You are immeresed in each others love and surrounded by it. If you work together you both will achieve very much and can find out the solutions to things much easier.
It could be Venice in Italy which is the city surrounded by water – perhaps a holiday there would be very enriching for your romance (wear lifejackets just incase you fall in the water).

Othere Meaning – Sometimes the very thing you are looking for you already have i.e. each other :) that’s beautiful.

Hi Diana – The city suggests relationship and interaction with other people, society, and all the opportunities and diversions city life offers. Therefore the dream may show something of the many choices you make or can make about direction, relationships or activities.

In your dream this is spelt out because your boy friend says he is looking for something.

Swimming usually shows your degree of confidence in dealing with the sort of impacts, anxieties or emotions which cause some people to ‘go under’, either in relationships or something like running a family or business. It indicates how you meet the many influences, urges and thoughts that buffet you and in which you live. So the fact that the two of you swim together says that you are matched.

As for the hug at the end surely you know what it means – you have both found the beginning of a well matched relationship.

please interpret this dream for me…

we were having dinner with my girl friend, husband and another lesbian friend (who we dont really have in real life). My girlfriend and i excused ourselves and we found ourselves in the room. making out and i ended up having sex with her, which was fantastic and amazing. When we got back to the dining table, the lesbian friend commented that my girlfriend had a glow and we started giggling and my husband didnt have a clue.

I want to know what my friend is in my dream and what it means. What is she in my life?

    -Tony Crisp 2010-08-17 12:08:25

Marge – I think you would need to answer these questions to understand what the dream friend means to you.

    1. How would you describe the main characteristics of your friend?
    2. What feelings did you get in the dream that you associate with her – in the dream?
    3. If you imagine yourself as her, what difference is there between you? You can shift back and forth between you and her to define this.
    4. What did she supply that you lacked – in the dream?

It seemed from what you say about your dream, that she is the ability to fully feel and express your sexual, sensual and emotional needs. Dreams are a playground where no one gets hurt, or is judged, except by ourselves.

Tony,

Do you have any insight into this one?

I am in a hospital hallway laying on a stretcher…I sit up and see a a miniature size Darth Vader lying between my legs…I pick it up…it cracks open and there is a real baby inside…a girl.

Thank you for your time and attention.

Christine – this is quite a lovely dream.

Darth Vader is in a shell that cracks open. And there is the lovely young girl you gave birth to.

I see this as a darkness that has or is passing away from you, and you are giving birth to a new you. Babies in dreams often show a new phase of your life coming about.

Hello,
I have had two dreams already about aggressive men.
1. In my dream I had a boyfriend who was a professional and always wanted to kiss me and wouldn’t leave me alone. The more I tried to get away the harder he would hold me until I yelled “stop”, he let go of me with a worried face and then I woke up.
2. The second dream was about a boyfriend who always wanted to hold me and sleep with me, but again I wanted to be let go to walk around and do things freely. He was a sports jock. Later on in the dream I had married him, but didn’t think it was a serious wedding; nothing official married us. Then in his absence I married another man. Anyways, I remember being in the same bed with the jock guy and he was being aggressive again. I then said “let go of me, it’s over” and then he laughed and said “we are married, so it’s not”. I then saw a woman in my dream to whom I asked for help. She said I would have to speak with a few people, but that the marriage was legitimate. At that point I woke up and felt strange, then realized it was only a dream.

So, what could this mean?
Thanks!

Hmm Amanda – This sounds to me like one of those awful relationships you developed with a family male, probably your father. I say this because it is obviously a deeply rooted pattern you have, and such patterns usually begin very young. I have some that I managed to trace back.

In a sense the men in your dream are not particularly aggressive. No one hit you. T seems more to reflect the inability to be free, and also the sense that marriage could trap you – or perhaps has. Of course waking up does not release you from this pattern – and dreams are more than ‘dreams’. They are often a mirror for difficulties we have.

I would suggest finding a way to freedom from the dream pattern. You can do this by repeatedly doing what is suggested in http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/peer-dream-group/#carryforward

I hope this helps. Remember that such dreams are not critcisims. They are a door to show you the situation so you can change it.

Nayeli – This depends entirel on your relationshiip with the bosses daugther. So you fancy her? If you donit can simply mean you have not fully become indepdent from you fahter – and therefore other strong males.

In any casse, do not be dominated by what is, after all, only a dream figure. You need to find a way to get past him and do whatever you wish. I mean by visalising a diiferent ending, andkeep doing it until you can really feel it.

Maria – In every close relationship we learn a great deal – good or bad. Also we can look back on a past relationship and see where we went wrong, or where we have grown. But a present relationship can trigger dreams about a past love because something in the present is trying ot give you a message. Also you didn’t tell me what you dreamt, and ther is the message.

I had a dream last night and i’m really confused about it.
There were a bunch of people in a cafeteria and we were watching some theater production on stage. Then everyone ran backstage while some of us stayed out in the cafeteria. We decided to go up some stairs and cut them off and scare all of them by reaching up through grated stairs. then the stairs collapsed and 3 people fell through. Nobody was helping the one person who was hurt and it turned out that he had a broken leg, so I carried him to a nurse station on some college campus where I put him onto a bed to rest his leg.
I tried to figure this out from other website but I couldn’t figure it out so I was hoping you could help me out with this one.
Thanks

Mike – Dreams are usualy feelings we have that have been put into images so we can begin to understand them. To to really understand your dream I would have to ask you lots of questioins so you would understand it yourself.

In your dream you were watching a stage play, and yet yyouleft it, but didn’t say what led you to leave.

Then you wish to frighten people – why?

So I have to guess. You actually frightened yourself – after all , who else is there in a dream except you and your feelings and images? And this leeds to you realising you have an injry to your leg – but which one? So again I have to guess that you have a need for greater confidence – your leg.

Imagine yourself as the guy with the broken leg and see how it feels. The college campus also suggests there is something in life you need to learn.

Please, someone explain to me what my dream ment?

I dreamt that my mom cut her left hand off and cooked it as dinner for us because she doesn’t want us to starve and there was nothing else to eat. I didn’t see my mom cuting her hand off but just her hand in a dinner dish on the dinner table right next to a whole steamed corn. I asked my mom why would she do that and she said because she doesn’t want us to starved.

Then i woke up. what is it mean?

Hi I’m Ant, i’m 20 years old, i’ve been having the same dream on and off for 3 years now. The dreams are more detailed when I drink. Therefore I don’t drink. In my dream i’m lay down on the floor in a dark, abandoned clinical room (like in a hospital). My clothes are ringing wet and the room is cold and i can see my breath. There is a shadow in the left hand corner of the room and it expands and contracts like it is breathing. there is a deafening sound like a fog horn, that makes my ears ring. Then something emerges from the shadow, I’m so scared I close my eyes. I feel it coming towards me. it crawls up my body and breathes into my face. I feel a sharp pain in my ribs as it sinks it finger nails into me. Then it says in my ear, ” a coin has two sides, but it is one”. An thats my dream. Can anyone help me understand what it means please.

    -Christine, for Ant 2010-07-30 9:07:51

The dark “demon” in the dream…the phrase two sides of the same coin…dark and light. You might exhibit some dark behavior when you drink…or you might be overly judgemental of your own or other peoples “negative” behavior to the point of not seeing the good in you or them. Or you might drink to push down “negative” feelings, like anger, which if you allow yourself to feel without reacting to it or judging it or yourself can give you a clue as to what you need to love yourself and bring out your light.

Two sides of us…dark and light…are of equal value…they make us whole

I need help with this dream.

I dreamed that i received a phone call from someone, she was a close friend apparently but at that point in the dream I didn’t know who she was. She was very worried. Frantic. She told me that I was going to die after ___ . Every time she told me when i was going to die it blanked out. In my dream i was freaking out, not because i was going to die but because i didn’t know what to tell my boyfriend. He was the only person i was worried about. I was devastated about leaving him. Then i woke up, after i went back to sleep the dream continued, in the dream i had already died. I was standing there looking at my grave. It was then that i knew who the caller was. It was an Angel.
What does it mean?

I think the Angel was trying to help you.

From your reaction to the message and your being more concerned about your boyfriend rather than yourself, you might need to look at your relationship with him. Are you putting his feelings and needs before your own…giving more weight to his opinions rather than yours…fearing that on a feeling level he is not able to tolerate feeling disappointed or tolerating a disagreement with you? To the point of killing a part of your self or your personality that you used to get a lot of joy out of?

I had a dream that I had sex with three women(foursome). The sexual experiance was so vivid it thought it acutally happen. In this dream their were sex acts that I have never done in my life. I am married and very sexually satisfed. I want to tell my wife about this be I did not want to hurt her feeling! What does this mean? Thanks

    -For Charles 2010-07-31 7:58:08

A dream about sex is not necessarily about sex, but it can be about a need for something, having that need met and feeling good about it.

Your reaction to the dream…that you do not want to hurt your wifes feelings…may be about needs you have that are not being met in the relationship with her.

That does not mean you are unsatisfied in the relationship at all. There is no judgement in that of you or her or the relationship.

It may be as simple as taking a cooking class, (where she does not enjoy cooking) or it might be about your exploring a part of your personality. Maybe you need intellectual stimulation, outdoor adventure, to work with a community group or a cause, a wider group of friends or a hobbies.

The happier you are, separate from the relationship, the more happiness you bring into the relationship.

Hi Charles – Such dreams are usually a way we can extend our experience, and then perhaps bring it into waking life. I don’t mean the three women, but the things you had not previously experienced. One aspect of dreaming is a playground where we can try out new things.

To quote from one of my books: Seen in a more positive light, we can each see that our daily life only allows us to live a small range of the things we would like to do or feel. The circumstances of our life may lead us to prevent ourselves from expressing openly the intensity of the love, the pain, the anger, the creativity we have inside us. In dreams such restrictions fall away to some degree, and our mind, our emotions and sexuality can unfold and we can discover our fuller range of expression and capability.

Myself and my family all dressed in black attended a funeral. I am unsure who died. I need the toilet before going into the service. The toilets are all open, no doors in between and woman sitting on them.I passed urine and was amazed that instead of it going into the toilet it ran onto the floor and formed a large puddle. I heard my brother speak in the chapel and was concerned that I will miss the service.

    -Tony Crisp 2010-08-01 10:09:18

Hello Ann – In some ways this is a return to childhood feelings. For instance as a child you were not given privacy in going to the toilet. Also as a child one could make a mess. Funerals are one of the ways we confront death and meet feelings, so I wonder if your dream is saying you missed the chance to meet death more fully. As for your brother he may represent a part of you that is willing and ready to deal with the experience.

If you can go along with the funeral your dreams will lead you into full meeting with death – and that is very beautiful. I have experienced it as the Naked Beauty – naked because death leaves our body behind and we at last know a wonderful freedom.
