What does my dream mean? – How to explore your dream meanings:

There are several ways you can understand the meanings held in your dreams, and there are several levels. The first is an easily understood level, followed by greater depths:

  1. You can enter a key word in the search box above. The Dream Dictionary contains interpretations on almost any type of dream subject. So if you dreamt of a flying saucer landing in a field, and aliens getting out and taking a baby,  a snake, and a pregnant dog back into the saucer, you could search separately for each of these subjects in the Dream Dictionary. Find the entry for flying saucer; then the entry for dog, baby,  snake,  pregnant, and so on. For each entry, find further related entries by looking under “Similar Articles” on the right hand side of the page.
  2. Each entry gives the general meaning of the dream subject, just as an encyclopedia or dictionary does for a word. Several possible meanings are given. This is because as with our speech the position of the word – the context – gives it special meanings. So a hot dog would be quite different to a black dog, dog-end or dead dog. So when you read an entry which has several different meanings, sometimes with a ‘;’ between, it simply means any one of them could apply. So you need to think about the feelings in your dream, the context, the other imagery used. Please do not fall  into the trap that one reviewer made of saying that the whole dictionary is about sex. Of course sex is one meaning among many others. So use your own sense of your dream as well as any definitions given.
  3. If you are writing in comments for a dream interpretation, please describe the dream as fully as you can,  and if it is relevant add your age your life and situation.
  4. To really explore the meaning it is useful to use the Dream Dictionary as it is designed, rather than arrive at a ‘thought out’ interpretation. To see a working example of this see ‘Dream Interpretation Example One’.

Your dreams can become vortexes of power to transform your life, and to enhance your perceptions. There is no ‘wave a magic wand’ route to this. It will not happen because you read a great book, or look at a good dream dictionary. Those things might help, but the real magic lies in whether you can enter into your dream in the right way.

This has been an ongoing type of dream. I keep dreaming that I have to keep leaving my husband for a few weeks or more or he has to leave me. It devestates me and I can’t stop crying. What could this mean?

Hi Bre – This a dream #i# have seen many times. Except sometimes the dream sees the woman losing her husband and unable to find him.

I imagine you are well into your marriage, and do not talk over openly with your husband his ‘going’ – in other words his death. So the feelings you feel are those of losing him for good. In my book Dream Dictionary I describe it as follows: Many middle aged women dream of ‘losing’ their husband while out with him, perhaps shopping, or walking in a town somewhere. Sometimes the dream portrays him actually killed. Mrs A. D. wonders if her dream was a premonition. It is more likely a form of practising the loss, so it does not come as such a shock. The greatest shocks occur when we have never even considered the event – such as a young child losing it’s mother – an event it has never practised, not even in fantasy, so has no inbuilt shock absorbers. As most of us know, men tend to die before women, and this information is in the mind of middle aged married women.

This is a dream my sister had. She dreamed about an owl peering through a window at her. She was outside and the owl was inside. She went inside to see it. It was large and white with gray speckles going down its back. It was sitting in the window sill, next to it was a line a vultures hopping up and down. None of the birds made a sound. Then my sisters mother was there and they were outside and so was the owl. Both my sister and her mom were the same age in the dream that they are now. She was holding her moms hand saying,”look mommy look at the owl.” like she was a child. Her mother paid no attention to it.

When a family member is in a dream it can be about that family member or a part of the dreamer, so please bear with me.

Your sister may be feeling sad that her mom does not see the wisdom or lesson to be gained in a pattern of negative behavior, relationships or situations. Your sister might believe that someone or some situation has been repeatedly taking advantage of her mom.

Or, this dream may be just about your sister. The part of her that needs to be her own mother ( as represented in the dream by her real mother) might need to acknowledge that she (your sister) is or has been taken advantage of…and that may be a pattern she needs to acknowledge in order to change it.

Juliana – This is a difficult one to answer without a lot more details in your dream. But usually when I have talked to the person and asked them if you have difficult feelings about being deserted, that is the cause of such fears.

THere is a dream that has bothered me these last few years. In the dream I am in an apartment building. I am sitting in an apartment looking at a window in front of me. There are other people around in the room talking. Suddenly in my mind I see a young woman taking a rope and tying it on the window in the apartment above. I know what she is about to do but I just watch. She ties it around her neck and jumps. Her body falls and dangles in front of the window I’m looking at. I see her struggling and dying but do nothing but watch. The whole time she’s staring at me. When she dies some cops come into the apartment and ask us if we saw anything. I tell them no and leave. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

Anne – I think you whole essence of the dream is about not taking responsibility.

Such dreams are dramatic representations of our inner feelings – maybe just a part of them. But even so it it saying there is a part of you that is desperate for help and attention. As I say, it is a dramatic representation, not a prophecy. And hanging is a way of strangling, so it would suggest you have so much you need to say and express. I think you could do well to talk to somebody about the dream. For the responsibility you are avoiding is toward yourself.

But remember that we are never totally alone, and calling for help to that mystery that is everywhere around us can bring help.

I can see some of you are already reaching out to others, giving excellent information. So if anyone feels like starting a Helping Hands group through prayer, let me know.

So the dream first is portrayed as a video game and the main character is me and im in a castle but its actually a school too. Im talking to people i don’t really know if my life. But then i go up stairs searching for items in closets just like a video game. Then the video game style stops. Then i am going down dark halls upstairs that no one is in still checking closets. Then i come to a closet that has a light on. I open the door and its a bright room full of clothes and there is a man in there who looks like he is from the circus. He is giving me women’s clothes to try on.(im a boy by the way so this is cross dressing). I try and lock the door so nobody will come in but the lock is broken. The last part of the dream is i’m searching for a bra and can’t find one. –so what does this all mean?

Hi Michael I guess we are all searching for ourselves. But who we are is complex and can be confusing until we understand our basic nature. I have often dreamt of having full female organs, very enjoyable so. But it has never confused me. I know many people get to thinking, does this mean I am not fully male, and perhaps get in a panic.

The truth is that none of us are wholly male or female. So dreams try to balance it up until we can fully integrate our male or female self. This takes time to fully do, and I don’t think it needs to be done outwardly. If you read the following it will explain what I discovered a bit more fully: http://dreamhawk.com/relationship-sex/the-bliss-of-becoming-one/

I had an unsettling dream recently. There were three of me – one of me found the other almost dead on the ground in a parking lot and shouted aloud at many around on motorcycles to get lost (they were not visible, only audible). Me 1 took almost dead Me 2 to Me 3’s house and put me into bed. Conversed with Me 3 in a kitchen that I had never seen before. Tone of conversation was Me 1 being fearful for Me 2 and not wanting to leave. Me 3 was very “all will be alright, please go.” .

Any theories on what this could possibly mean?

I had this creepy dream last night. I was picked up by a bunch of people, but they also picked up a few more people. All the other people they picked up too had familiar faces like I knew them but could Identify. They were going to perform a urban legend on all of us!!! (where they take are kidneys and put us in a tub of ice) I some how got away, but then they were trying to find me. SO until I I turned myself in they were making my loved ones suffer for it then I just woke up in a sweat and then checked my body!!! What do you think this dream can mean or if it even has some type of meaning!! Thank you!!!!

this was not particularly terrifying but probably should have been.
i was sat on the floor in a room with 3 other people. i dont recognise these folk, but in my dream they appeared to be friends of mine. each of the 3 had a barely conscious man on the floor in front of them. one of them was pulling out the fingernails of their victim one by one. the second was pulling out the guys teeth. the third was going for the eyes. this was all quite casual amid general chatter, although the men on the floor were in agony.
i meanwhile, was gradually becoming more uncomfortable with the situation, and i asked the 3 why they were doing this. i dont remember the reply, but remember feeling vaguely threatened. i made my excuses, therefore, and left.

im not sure if the second part of this dream is linked, but here goes anyway. i was back in last house i lived at with my boyfriend. there was some form of party going on (this was a students/ graduates house, so nothing unusual about that). everyone seemed fairly messy on various substances, but there was a strange atmosphere, added to the fact it was the middle of the afternoon. when i talked it over with my boyfriend (who was tryin to get everyone out of the house) we agreed that whilst they were all friends in our house, it seemed as though they were different people. it sounds quite tame, but there was something sinister about the whole affair.

Last night I had a dream and it was the first I have remembered in a long time. I was rushing through a crowd with my girlfriend and father towards this huge wooden ladder. I could not see where the ladder went to but everyone started to climb. After climbing for a long time, the wooden ladder started to crack. People began to fall off but we pushed higher and higher. Eventually we almost reached the top. At the top of the ladder was a platform which had a red door. A man at the top tried to help fix the ladder but everyone fell off. Next to the platform was a window within reaching distance. I was able to crawl into the window and drag my girlfriend and Dad with me.

Once again, this is the first dream I have remembered in a long time. It was very strange. Any advice on what it may mean? Thanks.

My mother told me that she had a dream that her finger nails were being peeled off by someone, from the cuticle down to the tip in many layers. She said she couldn’t feel pain but was cringing at the sight like you do when watching a scary film. We’ve looked around on the internet for some sort of meaning to this bizzare dream but nothing seems to fit. Was wondering if anyone could help?
