What does my dream mean? – How to explore your dream meanings:

There are several ways you can understand the meanings held in your dreams, and there are several levels. The first is an easily understood level, followed by greater depths:

  1. You can enter a key word in the search box above. The Dream Dictionary contains interpretations on almost any type of dream subject. So if you dreamt of a flying saucer landing in a field, and aliens getting out and taking a baby,  a snake, and a pregnant dog back into the saucer, you could search separately for each of these subjects in the Dream Dictionary. Find the entry for flying saucer; then the entry for dog, baby,  snake,  pregnant, and so on. For each entry, find further related entries by looking under “Similar Articles” on the right hand side of the page.
  2. Each entry gives the general meaning of the dream subject, just as an encyclopedia or dictionary does for a word. Several possible meanings are given. This is because as with our speech the position of the word – the context – gives it special meanings. So a hot dog would be quite different to a black dog, dog-end or dead dog. So when you read an entry which has several different meanings, sometimes with a ‘;’ between, it simply means any one of them could apply. So you need to think about the feelings in your dream, the context, the other imagery used. Please do not fall  into the trap that one reviewer made of saying that the whole dictionary is about sex. Of course sex is one meaning among many others. So use your own sense of your dream as well as any definitions given.
  3. If you are writing in comments for a dream interpretation, please describe the dream as fully as you can,  and if it is relevant add your age your life and situation.
  4. To really explore the meaning it is useful to use the Dream Dictionary as it is designed, rather than arrive at a ‘thought out’ interpretation. To see a working example of this see ‘Dream Interpretation Example One’.

Your dreams can become vortexes of power to transform your life, and to enhance your perceptions. There is no ‘wave a magic wand’ route to this. It will not happen because you read a great book, or look at a good dream dictionary. Those things might help, but the real magic lies in whether you can enter into your dream in the right way.

I had a dream that I had just given birth to a stillborn baby, I asked to hold it and as I did it started to blink, I then said it was the most beautiful baby I had ever seen and started to cry once I awoke I was still crying.

What a lovely dream Steph. I wonder whether it was a difficult birth.

To get such depth of feeling I feel this has a sense of Wordsworth, where he says:

Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting: The Soul that rises with us, our life’s Star, Hath had elsewhere its setting, And cometh from afar: Not in entire forgetfulness, And not in utter nakedness, But trailing clouds of glory do we come.

I believe the dream has given you a glimpse of what a incredible thing the birth of a baby is, and also that in some way you have given birth to yourself.

By that I mean the very best of you is here apparent.

Samantha – Your dream makes me think that you feel that the boat and the lock shouldn’t be. Perhaps people the early 1900’s felt that heavier than air planes could not fly. But dreams do not respect our fixed ideas of what should be, so I would be interested in what was it about the dream that frightened you.

I am wondering if in fact you have a difficult relationship with any one. Are you afraid of what the relationship would ask you, or of what you feel about relationship with the opposite sex.

Danielle – Do you have dreams that come true? If not it is probably not something to worry about. Nearly all dreams that the dreamer believes are prophetic turn out not to be.

The problem is that many dreams felt to be predictive never come true. Often dreamers want to believe they have precognitive dreams, perhaps to feel they will do not want to be surprised by, and thereby anxious about, the future. When the baby son of Charles Lindbergh was kidnapped, and before it was known he was murdered, 1300 people sent ‘precognitive’ dreams concerning his fate in response to newspaper headlines. Only seven of these dreams included the three vital factors – that he was dead, naked and in a ditch.

Out of 8000 dreams in his Registry For Prophetic Dreams, Robert Nelson, who was sent the dreams prior to what was predicted, has found only 48 which bear detailed and recognisable connection with later events.

Hey I was wondering what a dream that includes the devil & maybe even demons mean?
I don’t really remember my dreams much & hadn’t had a nightmare in so long until now. I also go on facebook often & in my dream the name “devil” try adding me but I never accepted it but I felt scare that if i didn’t he might do something. I also heard in my dream if I didn’t accept, he’ll stalk me,etc. I was also scared to look at the request & try to make sure no one clicks it. My friend in the dream accepted it and got follow one night from some figure at 4 30 am. I had this closet/small room, that a door doesn’t close well sometimes(I also felt scare inside there).
My other friend was over at my place and the door fell so I try fixing it but for some reason the lights wouldn’t budge on inside. I dropped the door again. As I did, I looked up, inside I see demons or black figures. I ran to were my friend was and the whole place lights were off but a lamp beside my friend. I try going near the light but I was in the ground (like i fell beside her) & the black figure/demon came out the closet & slowly looked at me & came fast towards me. I think it touched me before I got myself to wake up and I thought I felt pain at the spot near were it touch or a very uncomfrotable feeling.
Btw am also really religious towards God.

Shirley – If you believe in God how can you be afraid of what are shadows? Such shadows are places were you let go of what is living in you and fill it with your own fears.

The word devil is lived spelt backwards, and I am never tired of telling people the devil is simply Life turned back on itself, like suppressed love for instance. I know this for fact because I have met these so called devils in my own dreams, and instead of running from them chased and caught one. It cried out in pain – not a very devilish response. What I found was that in dreams and in life we give the devil a form and face, but the devil is only our own fears, hates and lovelessness projected outwards. If you turn those fears and hates into love the darkness vanishes.

The same with the disappearance of light. As you fear deepens the lights get dimmer and dimmer until you are in complete darkness. Or if you find the strength you should have from God, the lights work again. Try facing the devil. All you will find is your own fearful emotions – or if you break through his image you will find stream of life and love. Kimberley – It means exactly what I have said to Shirley – The word devil is lived spelt backwards, and I am never tired of telling people the devil is simply Life turned back on itself, like suppressed love for instance. I know this for fact because I have met these so called devils in my own dreams, and instead of running from them chased and caught one. It cried out in pain – not a very devilish response. If you turn those fears and hates into love the darkness vanishes.

So it is obviously that the devil is your mum – some of her hates, fears and desire to control expressing through her. Obviously those are things to be very careful of.

i dreamt that i had a baby. but i didn’t want the baby because it was ruining my life. what does this mean?

Well Tina – This sounds like a conflict between Life in you, and what You want. I remember helping a young girl of sixteen explore a dream. As she got deeper into her dream she began to shake as her body started to vibrate. I know this well. It happens when Life starts flowing through us. As she felt this she cried out, “But I don’t want a baby.”

Of course that is each persons decision. But such a decision to block the flow of Life should not be done as a conflict. You should take that mighty flow of life and find another creative act to express it through, one that give life to others. If not something in you will go bad.

A woman who came to me to help her deal with depression, had the following experience as I showed her LifeStream. “She was intensely absorbed in the movements that arose spontaneoulsy for nearly an hour before they stopped and she lay peacefully. She then sat up and told me she had experienced something extraordinary. She said that four years earlier she had been divorced and went to live in Spain with her children. While there she had an affair with a Spaniard and became pregnant. Because she already had children and was not wanting to stay with the man, she had an abortion. During her body movements it had seemed to her as if the life in her had said the abortion had hurt it. It then led her through the spontaneous movements to complete the process of birth of that baby, and in that way she now felt whole. The process of birth which had been cut off had been able to complete itself.

Near – In our dreams we live in world in which we create people and places to depict how we feel and what we fear. Therefore our sexual drive may be shown as a person and how we relate to them; or given shape and colour as an object; or given mood as a scene. Our feeling of ambition might thus be portrayed as a business person in our dream – our changing emotions as the sea or a river; while the present relationship we have with our ambition or emotions is expressed in the events or plot of the dream.

So your dream about your mother’s car crash doesn’t have anything to do with an external event. It is a picture of how you feel. Therefore it might be saying that you are scared of losing here, or maybe you have had an argument with your mother. You tell me what the car crash is about in your feelings about your mother. Is it you are frightened of being abandoned?

I had a dream where me and my family and a bunch of other random people were trapped in this large room there were at least 200 other people. It had no windows or doors. There were two people next to me and my family laying on beds and these men were throwing fleas at each other argueing and then this tunnel opened in the one of the walls and a bunch of water started coming out, and in the water a large alligator was swimming around killing people and another door opened on the opposite side i got my family to safety and then the gator started chasing me and i went down another tunnel and ran away through a door that spit me out in a part of my city in real life. I saw one of my friends and there sister and they started yelling at me get over here. So i went to them and followed them to their house where there dad was blasting some music and they said some weird stuff was happening and i said i had to go get my mom and they urged me not to leave their house, but i did. After i left there was alot of cars with scary and evil people driving by and all of a sudden this women came up from behind with three dogs two in her arms completely calm and one on a leash that was showing its teeth and growling and barking at me, she said i wouldnt be out here if i were you and then left but the dog kept staring and growling at me as long as it could. Then my mom came around the corner and said there you are and i said i dont know how we are going to get out of here, then some one drove by and through a vhs movie it hit me in the head then landed perfectly in my pant pocket. I looked at the vhs and it said something but i cant remember what.. i woke up after i looked at the vhs movie. I want to know if this means anything i have weird dreams similar to this one all the time now. I also developed a sleeping problem were i cant go to sleep till it is light outside. Not that i am afraid of the dark i just have no feeling of tiredness even if i lay there and stare ot the ceiling for hours and shut my eyes for hours. I want to know if my sleeping habits are connected to my dreams.. Thanks for the help

Brendan – Okay, let’s see if we can make any sense of your dream.

You start off in a situation in which you feel trapped – perhaps that is the situation you are in with your dreams and not being able to sleep.

Throwing fleas at each other is a real clue. Fleas can suggest thoughts that sap resolves, energy, or ambition, and that detract from your sociability. Or they can be attitudes or beliefs or worries that draw strength from you, or even cause illness. They may be attitudes or feelings you have ‘caught’ from someone else through relationship of one form or another – perhaps in childhood or through watching films with negative messages. So being hit in the head by a VHS film may suggest you are too full of negative feelings from films.

That you are not aware of being afraid of the dark only means your fears are unconscious and can only surface in your dreams. Even the snarling dog, which stimulates fear, is a sign that your instincts are put on alert and are snarling at any risk. And the dog snarling at you means you need to understand how dreams work – anything coming toward you is pushing into consciousness. See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/what-we-need-to-remember-about-dreaming/

So I would suggest stopping watching films for a while and read a book telling you about life in way to help you understand you are OK!! Here is one book suggestion: Love Life, Live Life: How to Have Happiness and Success Beyond Your Wildest Expectations.

I had the weirdest dream, I dreamt that I was at my fex best riend’s house, but her house was different from what it actually is. her house is bigger, more expensive and beautiful than it is now. There was a party at her house, with music and dancing(which would never really happen) and at this party is my enemy, a woman that has replaced me in my ex boyfriend’s life. The weird thing is that I was being civil to her, nice even. I really dislike her intensely in real life, don’t ever speak to her or even greet her. What can this dream possibly mean. I must say here also that I was nice to her, but also very guarded and aware of who she was, she seemed nice and genuine though. It irks me that she was nice to me, In the relationship with my ex, iit is not her who hurt me but my boyfriend, as they got together maybe only a year after we broke up. He cut me out of his life completely though and I am still hurt to the point of crying about this relationship, It is something I find very hard to let go of. What can this possibly mean? he was not in the dream at all.

Well Katq8 – Dreams come from a very different viewpoint that what you call “You”. Your personality is a very young thing and the place your dreams come from is very, very old place, as old as the creative spark of Life. Such age gives you wisdom.

Obviously his new girl friend is nice and genuine, and I think you have got your lines crossed somewhere. He was the one who hurt you and cut you off. But because you mistakenly harbour love for him you cross your feeling over to her.

Anyway we mistakenly call emotions love, when they are obviously not. They are mixture of animal urges, sexual needs, jealousy and childhood unmet love. What do you think it would be like to fall in love with or get married to someone who is only four or six years old emotionally? If you can’t remember being that young, love at that age means being incredibly dependent, with an enormous need for attention, possibly very jealous if someone else gets the love you desperately want; and if you lose a parent/loved one at that age it is devastating, even life threatening. But it may mean, because of early hurts, being unable to feel or express love. So if you can, ready my feature http://dreamhawk.com/relationship-sex/surviving-love-and-relationships/

Pablo – You have hit one of the magic places you can find in yourself. So I hope you can keep it.

To help I will try to explain something. In dreams whatever you think and feel produces a response from the Core of All Life. It is not what you are but what you felt at the moment of your dream. The response comes from the attitude you felt. It is not that you were singing a hymn, but what it led you to feel. That was when the wonderful response came and everyone joined in. If you understand that and continue to treasure the feeling, the doors of wonderland will open for you.

Tera – This a bit like the story about being turned out of the Garden of Eden. If we see the Garden of Eden as nature before human ability to make decisions came, you would, as a natural creature, go on having babies as long as you could. But when the ability to make personal decisions came you were no longer a natural creature. Making the decision not to have more babies is in opposition to your ‘natural’ self. Making decisions facing you with your own power – and that is not a bad thing. That is why you dream in this way.

A woman’s most fundamental power is to be a part of fashioning all living beings. She need not shape a child with this great drive unless she chooses. But she ignores the urge to shape something at her peril. If the river of her creativity is not consciously directed it will flow into all the dark folds of her fears, bitterness and fantasies and give them life. It may move into the sites of tension in her body and enhance the negative, causing cancer. So do not fight the urge but take hold of it and create something with it.
