Dead

Seeing something dead in your dream suggests you are realising that some part of yourself, or your feelings, are no longer expressing fully. In fact you may have killed that part of you by denying it, repressing, or freezing it from normal life. The ‘death’ may even have been caused by a painful experience. But even so, it still means you have made a decision – perhaps unconscious – to shut out that part of your life. This can also relate to a lost opportunity or potential.

Some aspect of your outer or inner life is fading, or being superseded by a changed approach, so may be shown as dying. Your drive to achieve something might die, and be shown as a death in your dreams. Changing from adolescence to puberty, maturity to old age, are also shown as oneself dying. Lost opportunities or unexpressed potentials in oneself are frequently shown as dead bodies. All of us unconsciously learn attitudes or survival skills from parents and others. If these are unrecognised they may be shown as dead. Sometimes we have killed the child or teenager in us because of difficulties or trauma at those ages, and these may be seen as a dead person in one’s dream.

Some death dreams may show the awakening of new life in the dreamer. For instance, Sue worked on a dream in which she was told her baby had died. She woke shaking with grief and tears. The dream and emotions appeared to show her becoming alive enough to feel the grief of her past pain as it connected with the death of her hopes, love, and ideals. She had suppressed her pain for so long. In now coming alive enough to feel her emotions, she was feeling at last that something had died in her.

If the death is someone we know: Frequently, as in second example, desire to be free of the person; or unexpressed aggression; perhaps one’s love for that person has ‘died’. We often ‘kill’ our parents in dreams as we move toward independence. Or we may want someone ‘out of the way’ so we do not have to compete for attention and love.

Death of oneself: Exploration of feelings about death; retreat from the challenge of life; split between mind and body. The experience of leaving the body is frequently an expression of this schism between the ego and life processes. Also: Death of old patterns of living – one’s ‘old self’, the loss of the boundaries that limit your awareness to an identity connected only to the body. This latter is usually a willing surrender of self to the process.

The walking dead or rigor mortis: Aspects of the dreamer that are denied, perhaps through fear.

Dancing with or meeting death or dark figure: Facing up to death.

Example: ‘My son comes in and I see he is unwashed and seems preoccupied and as if he has not cared for himself for some days. I ask him what is wrong. He tells me his mother is dead. I then seem to know she has been dead for days, and my two sons have not told anyone. In fact my other son has not even accepted the fact.’ Anthony.

Anthony is a divorcee. Processing the dream he realised the two sons are ways he is relating to the death of his marriage – the children’s mother.

Example: ‘During my teens I was engaged to be married when I found a more attractive partner and was in considerable conflict. Consistently I dreamt I was at my fiancé’s funeral until it dawned on me the dream was telling me I wanted to be free of him. When I gave him up the dreams ceased.’ Mrs D.

Example: ‘I dream I have a weak heart which will be fatal. It is the practice of doctors in such cases to administer a tablet causing one painlessly to go to sleep – die. I am completely calm and accepting of my fate. I suddenly realise I must leave notes for my parents and children. I must let them know how much I love them, must do this quickly before my time runs out.’ Mrs M.

This is a frequent type of ‘death’ dream. It is a way of reminding ourselves to do now what we want to – especially regarding love.

Although the unconscious has a very real sense of its eternal nature and continuance after physical death, the ego seldom shares this. Unconsciously we realise that collective humanity carries living experience from the life of those now dead. The farmer today unconsciously uses the collective experience of humanity in farming. What innovation he does today his children or others will learn and carry into the future. But apart from that there is life after death. See: Life after Death By Dr. Elisabeth Kubler Ross.

Idioms: Dead and buried; dead from the neck up / or neck down; dead to the world; play dead.

Dreams about a dead person: Dreaming of someone who is dead, a relative or loved one, is quite common. After all, the person may have played a big part in your life, as for instance a husband or wife. Therefore the influence of their existence is still very much a live in you.

As an example of this, you will probably be able to realise that some of your traits, some of the ways that you think or respond to things, have arisen because of the way you related to the person you dreamt about. So in many cases the dead person indicates the feelings you have about the, the traits you still have alive in you from them. When someone close to you dies you go through a period of change from relating to them as an external reality, to meeting and accepting them as alive in your memories and inner life.

Some dreams of dead people are expressive of attempts to deal with feelings, guilt or anger in connection with the person who died; or your own feelings about death.

Dreams about a Dead husband or wife: Many dreams of dead people come from women who have lost their husband. It is common to have disturbing dreams for some period afterwards; or not be able to dream about the husband or wife at all; or to see the partner in the distance but not get near. In accepting the death, meeting any feelings of loss, grief, anger and continuing love, the dream may become as in the third example. See: Death.

My mother keeps having recurring dreams about her sister, who in reality is dead, but in her dream she was dying for the second time.
My mom was aware in her dreams that her sister was dead in real life, but seeing her dying again caused a tremendous fear to my mother.
May I know, what’s the interpretation of her dream?

    -Tony Crisp 2018-05-13 13:23:46

The experience of a sister dying hit very near home – in effect it confronts one with her with the feeling that your mother might be next.

So your mother has a terrible fear of death. That is becau9se we have been raised in a culture that believes death is the end. This fear began when it was show that the atom was the fundamental part of our body, and as atoms are physical our body’s death meant there is no hope of us serving.
But science is always going beyond its findings, and today’s findings tell a different story about death. See https://dreamhawk.com/news/there-is-a-huge-change-happening/

I had a dream last night that my second husband ( who died 7 mos ago) was showing our pet bird a squirrel – I was walking to my car I turned around to tell him not to do that and it was no longer him but my first husband ( who died 20 years ago) and he was holding a rabbit showing it to our pet bird. It felt so real and so weird. What could it mean?

Hi – It would help you to understand your dreams, if you would read – http://dreamhawk.com/news/summing-up/http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/features-found-on-site/http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPersonorhttp://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/getting-at-your-dreams-meaning/

Shelia – In sleep and death, consciousness gradually withdraws from the physical into its own centre, rather like a snail withdrawing into its shell. This disappearance of personal awareness in sleep is an entrance into the world of death. The half way meeting between the wisdom of the spirit and waking consciousness is experienced as dreams.

The Spirit self defines its own realm by feeding upon the higher experiences and realisations of the soul, through repeated earth lives. These past lives are not remembered easily because the new soul that developed in the new body had no past connections because it has a new brain. The soul or personality is built from the local memories stored in the new brain. So memories of the past can only be attained by a deep awareness of the spirit.

At death, Steiner says, the influence of soul and spirit are disconnected from the body. It is left with only its own forces, and breaks up due to lack of a unifying and enduring influence. The Spirit is no longer immersed in the physical world through the soul, but it is still locked to the soul world through the soul’s experiences. The soul may be saturated with physical concepts, desires and impulses, which as they are, cannot be integrated into the spiritual ‘body’, just as food, without digestion cannot integrate with our physical body. As such it usually sees itself as the body and gender it lived in and as, but it may realise itself as a younger and healthier person.

The spirit however is neither male or female but everything, so the newly dead may only develop into the state of wholeness slowly, but will live in the idea and image of the body just departed. Love at this level is not one to one, but inclusive of all. So your dream appears to be about your own fears and anxiety about not being loved. I often dream of my ex- fiancé that was killed on a motorcyclehe was building for a customer back in 2003. We were together from 1994-1997-98 (off and on those last years) I loved him with a passion I had never known and haven’t loved someone that intensely since. I was in my 20’srather young then. And he was much older than me. Most people said I was just with him for his money. But what they didn’t know was that I loved him dearly. we split up and I moved back home. He lived approx. 4-5 hours away from where I lived. We continued to see each other for some time then I realized one day that I was just a stop on His way back from his trips to Atlanta so I felt used. It was true. So I eventually moved on and the last time I saw him I told him I was seeing someone else and he seemed rather put out and left. I never spoke to him again. I am married now to a man I love dearly and I hadn’t thought of my ex in years. Then about 3-4 years ago I started dreaming about Him. When I have the dream we are kissing or making love but I don’t feel anything physical. This last one I saw his face and took it in my hands and kissed him with so much love. I could see his chest and it was very pale and hairless. Throughout the dream I was being chased by people but he kept coming to me and telling me to leave before they got to me and I would always make it out just before these people that were following me would arrive. He was smiling at like me like he always does in every dream I have of him. I wake up feeling so happy that he is here but then realize it was a dream and my memory comes back to me of where I am. I feel so loved in these dreams. In almost all of the dreams we are kissing. What can this mean? It is heart renching for me. I think of the dream for days afterwards. I feel like I’m committing adultery on my husband by having these dreams. Is this wrong of me to want to dream about him again? I wake up feeling so loved and taken care of. What can it all mean?

    Tony

Dear Tammy – We are all capable of loving a great many people; like a mother with twenty children – she loves them all with many kisses. In our dream life there are no restrictions to love. Also the love you experienced you “are kissing or making love but I don’t feel anything physical.” So it seems like love the dead experience – “I had the awareness of us knowing each other in a formless love, as if we had blended together without body restrictions.”

It is not wrong to dream such dreams, and you are not committing adultery. Love is a very precious thing, and to feel it again is giving the ability to open to such wonder. Different if it was a physical person, for then we have to deal with the many social taboos we live within.

The words came, in regard to the question of loving others, “Because you would not admit your sexuality for the other women you turned your love away from your partner.” I too found that love for other people if felt and expressed in ways that was not hurtful to any, allowed a fuller love for my wife.

Love is a great force in nature and the universe. It does not belong to you, but flows through. The flow may at first carry debris from your life experiences. Unblock the flow!
A lesson I learnt late in life is that we are not in control of love. It dances and shifts all the time, and if you do not learn from Life it may trample you underfoot. It can hurt and of course it can uplift. You can never say “I love you” because love does not belong to you. Like your heart beat it is not yours to control.

-Ramona 2017-09-11 17:55:40

I dreamt about my late husband. In the dream he was pale white , long black hair and blue eyes. He kept showing me his abdomen and pointing out that he needed a liver and a kidney.
Then I saw his youngest daughter and only son and his oldest sister

What does my dream mean ?.

    Tony

Ramona – I take it you meant your dead husband? So, when we dream about a dead person communicating with us it can be distorted by our view of what death is – or our associations with the dead person. And your dream seems to me to be distorted, because the dead do not have a liver or kidneys, for they are body organs, and the dead do not need them.

But it may be that you are dreaming about your inner husband. Many people do not realise that they have an inner dreamed of husband equally as powerful as an external husband. You have taken in millions of bit of memory, lessons learnt, life experiences, along with all the feelings or problems met by loving and living with your husband, and they are what makes you the person you are. This is true even if your husband was never there for you – you still have all the memories of him not being there for you filed under ‘husband’. The memories and experience we gather unconsciously change us and are not lost. It is part of you and is symbolised in dreams as a person or event. Such an inner husband can appear in dreams because you are deeply influenced by what you hold within you. See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/near-death-experiences/

But because I do not know what you associate with your liver and kidneys, or the family members, I can only suggest you look at http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/characters-or-people-in-dreams/

My husband of 32 years just passed away two weeks ago. I had a dream 4 nights ago where he is standing in his favorite room in front of his favorite chair. His ashes are there too. A rather plain woman is sitting in chair looking at him and I ask what he is doing. He says, “I have to go with her” and I ask why and he says “just have to go”. What could that mean?

Kelley – When we have died we are in a completely different environment than while in the body. Because we then have no body we do not need to eat, to drink, to have sex – but we are in a place where we sometimes evolve and need to learn.

In the bible it says, “In that age to come and in the resurrection from the dead we will neither marry nor be given in marriage.” So it is not that he has found another woman, it might even mean that he is finding his own wholeness in incorporating his female self.

“When you make the two into one, and when you make the inner as the outer, and the upper as the lower, and when you make male and female into a single one, so that the male shall not be male, and the female shall not be female: . . . then you will enter [the kingdom].” Quoted from ‘The Gnostic Apostle Thomas’

    Tony

Fay – When he has been dead that long he has probably developed beyond seeing himself with the body he had in life.

Here is a person description of life at that level – “I had no sense of having a body. Thoughts had ceased, except for a murmur apparently a thousand miles away. Yet in blackness, in immensity, in absence of thought I existed vitally as bodiless awareness. We think that we are our body because we have no other experience of our existence. So, we identify with our body and so are terrified of dying – which in a sense is what we do every time we go to sleep and leave our sense of a body behind.”

A description of the world the dead enter – “It is a life without boundaries.”

So your following your husband without a face is showing you a part of the life he is experiencing now.

-Cissy 2017-08-08 15:24:07

My husband passed away in 1997 and I keep having dreams that he is alive and we are so happy and so much in love.
Why do I keep having these dreams. During the day, I do not think of him.

    Tony

Cissy – The first reason is that death of the body is not death of the person. See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/near-death-experiences/

Obviously love does not end when one person dies. So he is keeping in touch and watching over you. See http://dreamhawk.com/inner-life/journeying-beyond-dreams-and-death/#WHappens

Another reason is that many people do not realise that they have an inner husband equally as powerful as an external husband. You have taken in millions of bit of memory, lessons learnt, life experiences, along with all the feelings or problems met by loving and living with your husband, and they are what makes you the person you are. You are much more than you realised. You are capable of a great deal more than you have ever been able to live. Your dreams link you with that limitless potential. In your dreams you leap beyond the limitations that usually bind and restrict you. Without effort you can fly; or you can be a visionary, looking back into past ages, or gazing into the unlimited possibilities of your future. Dreams allow you to solve intricate problems that evade you while awake – explore the complexities of a relationship by actually taking part in its drama in a full surround virtual reality – you can explore back through the strata of your lifetime to uncover past pains that still create present discomfort.

My husband had passed away in 2010, almost every night I dreamt of him, I was so happy that he was there and alive with me but when I looked at his face I would feel hurt and pain and tear and he would just disappear and I would then get up from my sleep realizing its just a dream.Every dream of him would end that way.

Desiree – It is not just a dream, but is feedback about the pain you are giving to your husband.

Many modern physicists, working with the information arising in experiments with quantum theory, tell us that our view of the world is based upon our blindness, and is very limited, and through its limitation, unreal. Yet this view we take to be the REAL universe. See http://dreamhawk.com/news/there-is-a-huge-change-happening/

The implications of the theorem are enormous. Something can be in two places at once. Apparently distant objects, or people, are intricately linked in an immediate way. There is no separate existence as we previously thought. Our view of the world is not one supported by the facts of physics. Time and space are transcended. David Bohm, an eminent physicist, goes as far as to say that all things in our observable universe are inextricable linked. Nothing has separate existence.

Because after death ones awareness is much expanded, so your husband can share every thought and feeling you experience, so your feeling hurt, pain and crying would be very painful for him, causing him to disappear, because you are reacting as if he has actually died.

Maria – Your ‘dead’ friend has indeed introduced you to the life after the end of our body. You are in a learning relationship with her, and she is an excellent teacher.

Many modern physicists, working with the information arising in experiments with quantum theory, tell us that our view of the world is based upon our blindness, and is very limited, and through its limitation, unreal. The implications of the theorem are enormous. Something can be in two places at once, in fact everywhere at the same moment. Apparently distant objects, or people, are intricately linked in an immediate way. There is no separate existence as we previously thought. Our view of the world is not one supported by the facts of physics. Time and space are transcended. People’s experiences of this dimension:

So her communicating such things as, “after she died and at times she is not surprised.” Not surprised because she too is in a condition where there is ‘no separate existence – in fact everywhere at the same moment.”

Here is a woman’s description of her experience:

Example: Unlike any dream environments she’s known, her mind feels clear, alert, and free. Is she awake, asleep, or somewhere in between, in this place that’s more vivid than previous reality? Her surrounding is cylindrical, vibrant, and vast; white light emanates with a strength that almost hurts. The only route is up the helter skelter stairs of this lightening bright, snow blindness light-house. Tentatively, so unsure she starts to ascend; round and round she coils windowless walls forlorn, until she reaches the top and its sacred platform.

Relief from the piercing light is achieved where windows open on to darkest space. Her anxiety easing, she approaches the central display: an exceptional, universal camera obscura. Far from static it reveals the whole world and with just one thought from the viewer’s mind, a place and a loved one instantly appear presented real time for one to observe. Standing mystified, a presence then joins her and informs her with seemingly no external voice at all: “This is the place where people come after death’s fall.”

With instant recognition of her self-mortification, she spontaneously utters: “Oh, so I’m dead!” The presence inwardly sighs: “No, you’ve misunderstood my intention: I’ve brought you here to show that each of the dead choose someone to guide and watch over on earth. And that you have a someone still loving you. Your self-destruction is unnecessary; you just need to give life a reasonable chance. Please think on this experience and what I have said; your duty is still to life, it’s not yet to death.”

As far as your statement that you would love to study some of my work, I first suggest you read http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/going-beyond/ followed by http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/dimensions-of-human-experience/http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/lifes-little-secrets/

I keep having the same types of dreams. My boyfriend passed away march 12 2016 he died early in the morning around 2 we had been arguing a few hours before and said some really hateful things to one another the one thing i said that sticks with me is “you’re dead to me.” its been almost a year since it happened and i keep having recurring dreams where he comes back and accuses me of cheating on him i keep telling him that i thought he was dead and he constantly tells me he has never died. He becomes furious at me and looks in the mirror and says im not dead holly im right here. I call him on his cell phone and he answers and says see im not dead. Its so hard waking up from these dreams. I feel like he is trying to tell me something. If im not dreaming this dream im dreaming of my car being pulled into the ocean with me in it. Both types of dreams happen multiple times a week they just have different settings or people.

I dreamt my ex husband killed 3 people and they started to smell so he told me to help him get rid of the bodies. They where tightly wrapped in black bags taped with duct tape. I took the smallest body and as I was carrying it the black bag tore away bit by bit and when I looked down I was swinging a doll by the leg. The doll had long blonde hair and bright blue eyes. This dream really rattled me.
