Levitation Levitating

Ernest Wood in his book Yoga says, “Levitation, or the rising of the body from the ground and its suspension a few feet up in the air above the seat or couch, is a universally accepted fact in India. I remember one occasion when an old yogi was levitated in a recumbent posture about six feet above the ground in an open field, for about half an hour, while the visitors were permitted to pass sticks to and fro in the space between. Princess Pena Choki, second daughter of the Maharaja of Sikkim, related, regarding her uncle: He was the most extraordinary man I have ever met. I remember that when I was a little girl he … did, what you would call exercises in levitation. I used to take him a little rice. He would be motionless in mid-air. Every day he rose a little higher. In the end he rose so high that I found it difficult to hand the rice up to him. I was a little girl, and had to stand on tiptoe … There are certain things you don’t forget.’”

These are quotes from books, and unfortunately I have not witnessed anything like it myself. But in dreams it is a different matter. Dreams of levitation are quite common and usually are the result of uplifting feelings, often of a religious nature. They usually indicate the dreamer has touched a level of consciousness that has given them such dreams. Levitation should not be confused with flying in dreams. Sometimes it indicates that the dreamer has broken free of the sense of just being a physical body.

An explation that is the cause of many levitating dream is that the dreamer is having a hard time, and so dreams of getting away from the difficulty.  See FlyingLevels of Awareness in Waking and Dreaming

Of course the person’s attitudes create much of what one dreams, so if a person had a sense of themselves being special or ‘above’ ordinary human beings, it could also result in levitation in one’s dreams.

Example: I was floating on the very tender tips of a tree in a sort of effortless levitation. The tree was about 30 feet high and was standing in what looked like walkways near a shopping mall. One walkway was rising so it came to about halfway up the tree. A few people gathered to look at me and wonder how it was possible for me to maintain my position. At first they thought it must be a publicity stunt and were wondering where the cameras were. But as nothing happened in that way it led them to question further. Suddenly one of the people watching – I think it was a woman – suddenly realised it was not a trick or to do with publicity. She realised that this meant it was possible for a human being to do this, and was immediately floating beside me. Shortly after that another person was with us, floating effortlessly. Then there were several more, until there were about six of us in a circle at the tree tip. We reached out to each other and held hands, then we lifted upwards, climbing to an enormous height, leaving a trail of smoke behind us as a sign for people to see from miles away.

Example: I am a worshipper in a group, gathered together in one accord, in praise and supplication. I am lifted up, levitated, floating above the heads of the assembly. From within I am moved, as by the spirit, to sing a beautiful Polynesian chant. It is clear and lovely, and signified the spirit is entering the assembly. Prior to this we were only praying for the spirit, now we had contacted the spirit.  Then suddenly I was rushed upwards at great speed until I was unconscious. Then just as suddenly I was rushing downwards and came with such force that when I landed on the courtyard of the assembly a force shot out of me and etched letters into the statue of a man fixed on a wall in front of me.

Useful Questions and Hints:

Did you feel and sense of inspiration in the dream?

Have you in fact been levitating – lifting up your emotions of thoughts beyond normal?

Did I realise anything new during the experience?

I have had constant and more reoccurring dreams that I am able to levitate. I am NEVER aware that I am in a dream, maybe because my mind has always been open to any possibility. My levitation always requires deep concentration and effort beyond any natural ability that I am capable of. Over the years, my (literal) heights in levitation have increased as well as the effort and concentration needed to reach them. I have notice that my ability to control my direction of movement is very obscure, and often leads me to lose the concentration needed to maintain a constant height. (I often zig zag across a room even though I know where I am and where I want to be, most recently holding/ carrying someone I love.) Livid dreams are not something I’m able to be aware of, but most often I am more happy in the dreams than reality. This also makes it hard to want to be awake. I would much rather explore my growth of consciousness than to be burdened by the sick reality that we must experience. I am begging for guidance and mentoring. I first experienced this over 20 years ago (33 now). And I am now realizing that I must learn if I am ever to grow from it. It is BY FAR the best experience I have ever felt in my entire life, and I truly wish to embrace it. I am here and waiting to further myself before “I pass into another realm”. All suggestions are welcome.

I kept rising to the ceiling in an upright position with my own will surrounded by siblings (who did the same) and kept repeating it again and again. I was a little scared at the moment as I thought this act might be unacceptable for others. But I had a little feeling of accomplishment at the same time.
At present I a going through a hard time due to a health issue which has made me weak and mentally upset.(Dunno whether this is related or not.) What could it mean??

-CONRAD KONZ 2017-06-18 14:14:41

Hi.. My name is KONZ. And time to time I dream that I’m levitating.. (not flying) but levitating. I would be able to stand still and mentally focus myself and force myself TRU muscles and can feel the waves of pressure lowering under my feet and I rise about 2 feet to 6 feet high sometimes..

I believe in my dreams I’m not dreaming it feels so natural. It’s like I know I’m unique and have an ability that no 1 has. It feels so real that even one morning after a dream I even tried to convince myself I could do it again but awake. I tried but wore myself out.
I’m really feeling like I was and had gifts to do that in a Past life or something.. And it visits reminds me in my dreams. Well I hope this Real story was any help.

Hi – It would help you to understand your dreams, if you would read – http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/questions-2/#Summing and also http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/features-found-on-site/ which has so much information in.

Nothing can replace your own ability to understand your dream. With a little effort you can do this by practising what is described in – http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson or http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/getting-at-your-dreams-meaning/

Conrad – Many, many people dream of levitating, as in the examples below.

She realised that this meant it was possible for any human being to do this, and was immediately floating beside me. Shortly after that another person was with us, floating effortlessly. Then there were several more, until there were about six of us in a circle at the tree tip.

You wrote that you are unique and have an ability no one else has, but such thought are usually those used by people who are uncertain of their value, and are not good to keep.

I often dream where I take a running jump then keep going, hovering above the ground. I deliberately control how long for and it feels so real. I catch people watching me in amazement and it feels great. I remember having these dreams as early as age 4. I even believed I could fly as a child and even threw myself down the stairs convinced i flew down and did not hurt myself. What do you think this means?

-Sp 2017-04-05 6:46:14

Sometimes i dream that i’m dead and know it and haunting a building and observing people in it.

-Mrs Pal 2017-04-05 4:45:17

I often dream of levitation and floating and flying. All this happens amidst of chaos. Theres apocalyptic event and i need to help my family members and theres no hope and suddenly i am flying or levitating like an angel, arms streched and slowly rising above, higher and higher and from there peacefully i see the beauty of sun and stars. In real life i am stayathome mom. Some family memebers need fulltime care so i chose to leave job and take care of them. But people have mixed feelings about it. Now i crave for respect, freedom and peace. That’s the reason i guess.

I frequently levitate in dreams. It is my ‘clue’ that I am dreaming. A few times, I have woken in the night to go to the bathroom, and have tried to levitate just to check and see if I am dreaming; sometimes I levitate, and realize I had a false awakening. When this happens, I say, “yes!”. Love waking up in a dream.

Fabulous! Thank you. So happy for ME!!!
“Sometimes it indicates that the dreamer has broken free of the sense of just being a physical body.”
I’ve been doing the ‘work to bring me home to myself’ for some time. I’ve had many hovering and flying dreams over the last 20 years. This morning was my first levitating dream. Your comment above is EXACTLY what I’ve been experiencing. LOVE IT. Thanks again, Donna

Do you use your abilities if people telephone you or email you? I am asking because often adverts are place on this site that are just ways to get people to carry on spending their money, and I get rid of them. So I am thinking of putting a feature with contact information for REAL mediums or gifted people.

Hi again Tony. I apologize. I was never alerted that you had replied to my comment. I only saw it now because I had another fabulous dream this morning about realizing HOW to levitate and I googled again. Found your site one more time and saw my post and your reply. I had totally forgot I added that comment. I do readings for clients via Skype, phone, Zoom, and in person. If you ever do add a link on your site, please email me through my website. Thank you again for being ‘here.’ Cheers! Donna

Hi, my dream is a little frightening. I was arguing with my dad in our house. The dream had a dark and gloomy feel. My mom in the room as well looking at me terrified and helpless along with my dad who was right in front of me. They were worried for me, concerned. I was so angry that i began to levitate over my father yelling at him and this scared he and my mother horrifically. It was an absolute nightmare so horrible that i think of this dream from time to time to afraid to tell them I had this dream.

Can you interpret this for me?

    -Tony Crisp 2017-01-24 10:18:41

Hi – I am going to halt from answering your posts – the reason is that in so many of your post I give the same information to. That is because most posts do not realise the difference between dreaming and waking life. It makes a great difference.

So, most of what I put in answers is my attempt at explaining what dreams are really about. It would help you to understand your dreams, if you would read – http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/questions-2/#Summing it would help me, and hopefully you too.

    Tony

Levitation in dreams is often a way of escaping from the situation. See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/masters-of-nightmares/
