Sea Ocean

Life began in the sea, at the depths. Our blood is salt in the same degree as the ancient sea, and thus we have an inner sea. In your dreams it represents the universal and fundamental processes of life in you.

Awareness of these processes are not easily accessible to your conscious mind, but are nevertheless constantly influencing you and what you do. When you do at times have some consciousness of this level of yourself, it is often experienced as a huge ocean of mind, the collective unconscious as Jung called it. It feels like nature’s memory, where all experience is stored. So in your dreams about the sea, you may be accessing some aspect of this immensity, stretching from today to the primeval depths of your existence.

Most of the activities that underlie our physical and mental life are beyond our awareness. For an immensely important period of development your being existed in a pre-conscious, pre-verbal state as it grew from the single cells of sperm and ovum to the foetus and new born child. But even after birth there was a timeless period before speech and self-awareness were achieved. Therefore a great deal of your experience and drives lie outside of, or underneath, the clear conceptualisations gained with speech, and your sense of self. Occasionally something – an ache in the chest, a strange emotion that unsettles you – may emerge into consciousness, then disappear. See Wild Side

The sea, with its surface and hidden depths, lends itself to depicting this human experience of known and unknown regarding yourself. The enormity of the sea is also a visible image of the enormity of your own inner world – much of it unknown and lying in pre-birth or pre-speech – and also the relationship you have with the processes underlying your existence, that you exist by yet know so little about. The sea holds vast treasures, curiosities, and your history. Not simply because life emerged from the sea, or your blood is as salt as the ancient sea, but because so many ships and shorelines are now beneath the waves. Sometimes these can be recovered, and this too is an image reflecting your relationship with your own deeps.

Therefore the sea may depict a strange environment in which you might have no skill in surviving; something new or strange that confronts you; the boundary between unconscious and conscious; the processes and the origins of your life; the wisdom, still unverbalised because locked in process rather than insight, of your existence; source of the huge life drives, such as that urging you toward independence, mating and parenthood; a symbol of infinite energy, potential or consciousness, in which human existence is only a tiny part; The waves of experience we face in life, some acceptable, some threatening.

Although some writers say the sea may represent one’s mother, and the situation one meets in becoming independent of her, it is probably better to think of the sea representing the state of being and awareness we emerged from in our mother’s womb. That is, a non striving, non demanding existence in which our needs were usually met without a personal struggle or without any defined sense of self. Therefore a sinking into the sea could be seen as a sinking back into this loss of personality or personal striving and independence. A struggle to survive could be partly a difficulty with existing by one’s personal effort and work – the difficulty of ‘keeping one’s head above water’ in life and being independent. See Individuation

Going under the sea: Remember we were conceived and grew in the waters of our mother’s womb, and amount of salt in our blood is the same as that in the ancient sea at the time life began as single celled creatures. So, it suggests bringing internal contents to consciousness; remembering the womb experience; letting our ego surrender a little; looking at death.

Also it shows that we, our conscious self, has entered more deeply into the enormous depths of our consciousness; we have literally dipped below the level of our conscious self. See My Body is a Moving Sea

If there is a sense of hugeness or depth: Going beyond the boundaries of experience usually set up by our conscious self or ego. See Our Reaction to meeting the Huge that we Are

Learning to swim: Learning to survive in a new environment, such as happens when we emerge from childhood into adult sexual drives, or the school or work environment. At such times anxiety or uncertainty may threaten to engulf us just as it does when we learn to swim. Dealing with life needs us to be able to meet such feelings without turning back. See: swimming.

Rescued from the sea: See: air sea rescue.

Sea shore: This is similar to beach if you are on the shoreline, the border between everyday life and your unconscious sources of motivation energy and life. But if you are looking at the beach from a distance, it could suggest a different way of life, somewhere you haven’t reached yet, or are leaving behind. So it could depict change or somewhere you are trying to get to or reach.

Example: I dreamt I am standing on a steep hillside that slopes into the sea. I look across the sea, and the air is so clear I can see the far coast twenty miles away with amazing clarity. In fact, it is so clear it seems to me I can see every detail of a rocky cove across the water. The clarity amazes me and it seems the cove is only a few hundred yards away. It stands out with all its many colours. I find it so impressive I want to run back to get my camera. I hesitate from doing this though because I wonder if the scene will disappear.

I explored this dream many times but I could not get a clear insight into what the beach arose from in my experience. Then, with the help of a friend, I reached it. When I came to exploring the beach again, at first it seemed as subtle and unreachable as ever. Then I began to define what I was as the beach – a meeting place for water, earth, air and sun – earth, air, fire and water. But the beach is not any one of them. It changes with the seasons and with the action of storms, of erosion and temperature. It isn’t the air, or the sea or the earth. It changes yet stays the same – the beach. Suddenly I felt this in myself, saying, “I am not anything. I change yet am unchanged. I am all things but nothing.” This gave me a very powerful sense of my own eternal spirit underlying all the changes of my body and personality. Robert.

The shore/beach can therefore also depict the spirit that underlies all things. This is because if you were to say what a beach is, you could not say the sea was the beach, or the sky, or the land. None of them separately is the beach. The beach is the indefinable amalgam of them all. In just that way the spirit is the indefinable everything that underlies the particulars of life.

Tide: Rising and falling of feelings such as love, pleasure or sexuality; may refer to ageing when going out; tide in our affairs. See: beach; fish; water.

Tidal wave: Any release of emotional or sexual energy. The reason this image is used is that when we feel enormous release of emotions such as might happen when we fall in love, have a baby, or are publicly condemned, our ego often feels carried along by the experience rather than in control.

But huge waves cause many people enormous fear or terror. Often this is because of a past experience such as attack or rape. But dreams are not simply replays of the awful emotions, but are ways you can meet and transform them into healing. See Tsunami; Life’s Little Secrets; Secrets of Power Dreaming; Summing Up

We may have learned how to ride such waves as surfers do. This requires confidence, daring and balance. If we can do it we can open ourselves to much greater range of feeling or change than if we felt threatened. Even happiness may be repressed due to feeling threatened. Anxiety or depression is one of these enormous waves that may threaten to engulf us, and so is one of the human conditions the tidal wave represents. Yet if we face it and meet it can be an enormously transformative influence. See Yoga in Dreaming.

As a tsunami it is saying that some tremendous change has happened deep in you and in the world. Tsunamis are caused by earthquakes on the sea bed, or massive earh changes. So many people are dreaming about them at the moment because of the enormous change going on around us and within us. So learn to face them without fear and be ready to meet change in your life and in your family.

Example: I could see in the distance a Tsunami coming towards us. I found Collette to tell her, and we went to see if we could find a way out for everyone. At the back of the building there was an open area that had an opening with big rocks like a gully, Collette and I agreed it was a way out. Collette went to get the others but as she did my arm went over the boundary and my hand felt water and I knew it was too late. I went to tell Collette. I felt fear and acceptance that there was nothing I could do.

Working on this dream with Tony who invited me to be the Tsunami, which I did.

As the Tsunami I felt expansions in myself wider higher boundless, full of charged energy. Staying with what I was sensing I felt my attention was drawn to something pushing from behind me. I followed that sensation of what was pushing me and it went down my body and continued to go down deep into the earth like a root. As this continued the image came to mind of being in an umbilical cord. I was it and in it and I felt sick between my throat and belly.

Staying with what was happening I felt a black tar like substance, it felt like it lined part if the inside of the cord and it was thick and dense. I felt it was something I had been dealing with all my life and it felt like it came from my mother, but as I became aware of that thought I knew that it went a long way back, ancestral or beyond. I felt emotional, staying with the image the dense heavy blackness, something started to move in my belly, a bubble type ball of energy came out from the blackness into my hands and it felt like I was like a baby inside.

Holding the energy bringing it out up my body, then it was taken back in through my mouth, like eating my own tail, a complete circle moving slowing down my body transforming the blackness as it went.

I became the Tsunami again and it I saw that it was like an LSD trip, levels of attachments of what you identify with; like being in a room but you are not a room. Having things in the room, but they are not you having emotional attachment to them, but you are not those emotions and it washed away what we/I am attached to, letting go of stories of my self, because I am not the story, but have lived through it. I am the energy of the Tsunami, the energy of everything. As I made my way home I felt very much in the moment, with waves of people of all colours, cultures, shapes and sizes. On the bus the conversations, behaviours I noticed, I could see myself in it all buildings cars traffic lights all connected.

Waves: Impulses, feelings and emotions, such as sexuality, anxiety, anger. Waves can also indicate an impulse such as life in one that has its beginnings from a mysterious source.

Example: ‘My husband, and I were standing looking at the sea’s surface. It was just falling night. I saw a mass of dark shapes, thought it would be a school of fish. Then we were looking at water birds, maybe ducks, again dark shapes as the light had almost gone. Then there was a hole in the sea, like a belly button, I was wondering what it was, how was it being made, was there something under the water? Something very big was coming up to the surface very close to me. It shot me to wake.’ Ginny Q.

Ginny and her husband had been exploring the content of their dreams. The image of the sea shows Ginny sensing there are enormous depths to her own being, and something big – a previously unconscious complex of insights and feelings – is becoming conscious.

Example: ‘A small speed boat was at sea. But the sea dissolved anybody who fell in. One man fell in but held himself together as a blob of water and jumped back to the speedboat. I remember the words ‘The sea is a great solvent’.’ Tim P.

Tim is aware of his unconscious sense of being a part of the huge ocean of life or energy. In it one might lose sense of identity. In the end, identity is ‘held together’ by one’s own belief in oneself.

Example: ‘I am either standing at the edge of the sea or near, when suddenly enormous tidal waves appear in the distance and are coming closer. I know they will engulf me, I turn and run away. Sometimes they do overtake me, other times I wake up.’ Mrs A. V.

We can run from pleasure and wider insight, just as much as from pain or fear.

On the first night I slept with my present wife when she fell asleep I noticed she struggled with her breathing. While she was still asleep I spoke to her suggesting she would relax and allow her breathing to be easy. Within moments she responded. This encouraged me and I suggested her whole body would relax, and the barriers within her dissolve, allowing healing and well-being to be experienced. Within ten minutes she suddenly awoke and told me a dream.

She was at the rear of a house sunbathing with her family, feeling very relaxed and happy. As she sank into the enjoyment waves, like a tidal waves began to roll up her body. The pleasure was so intense she couldn’t take any more and woke up.

Idioms: All at sea; plenty more fish in the sea; lost at sea; stranger things happen at sea; between the devil and the deep blue sea.

I have a recurring dream of things falling on me while i stand on my terrace. The scene when you look up is extremely weird because i see the sky slightly tainted and small things just flying/falling at me.

I used to have this dream as a child where i would see a lot of aeroplanes and small pieces of paper or small candy or burnt piece of paper falling down on me. all this while i am standing on my terrace with sometimes my friends or family.

This stopped somewhere in my teenage age but has started again.

Just yesterday i dreamt of a guitar (neither do i know how to play a guitar, nor does anyone close to me does) falling down, and when i looked up, it was THE exact same scene from my childhood, with alot of different things flying/falling down from the sky and it gave me goosebumps.

It really baffles me and i would really appreciate if someone could help me with it.

I had a dream my sister and I were going to the beach and on the way there we notice the ocean has dried up.Then when we finally get to the ocean the water comes back slowly to our feet. What does this mean?

-Yashi Singh 2016-10-31 13:39:05

I saw dream of beach and there was no one ….I was there with my family and friends aslo some unknown people…..the depth of sea was minimum….like I can only walk across but can’t swim…….later I walked through its whole end …and returned back to the shore…..there are very few aquatic animals. I saw that my family members and some constructors were trying to build swimming pool there…….I felt soothness of mind ..because the color of water was really calming me….totally bluish and attractive toward nature……plz help me….I would like to know what is happening .
Thank you

Yashi – The beach is a sign that at the time of the dream you had reached a state of mind that gave a deeper relationship with the wonderful forces of Life.

Being in that state brings calmness and also good feelings. The blue colour deepens the feeling because it shows you just beginning to get awareness of the great deeps of vision within you. See http://dreamhawk.com/inner-life/the-unconscious-2/

Hi. I had a dream earlier in the week, where I was floating in the depths of the ocean. The water seemed to be a blueish green on one side, then a darker blue on the other. I kept floating toward the darker blue, but always remained on the greenish blue side. At times, it was as if I was hovering over self and looking down to see myself just floating peacefully on the calm waters. Just before I woke up, a whale was beginning to surface next to me. I then awoke before it actually surfaced. I am usually pretty good at deciphering my dreams, but his one has me stumped. Any thoughts?

    -Tony Crisp 2016-10-23 13:11:20

Alana – Your dream shows you floating in the great ocean. Around you and beneath you is vastness, and you can see yourself as a tiny speck compared with the hugeness you float in. That is a real picture of what we actually are – a tiny speck of awareness in the great ocean of awareness. See http://dreamhawk.com/inner-life/the-unconscious-2/

The whale is coming closer to your awareness because you have become quiet and responsive, even fertile in mind. So, you have become aware of the hugeness that was on your depths, and enormity of what was hidden to you in your depths. It is the messenger that you are ready to go on the Night Journey. For many it is expressed as the search for God, or the often extraordinary efforts people make to grow beyond the pain of childhood or adult trauma. In some it becomes the quest for knowledge when one truly tries to understand rather than simply remember facts. It is seen in artists attempts to go beyond themselves in creative acts; in the spiritual quest for the imperishable; the search for real love or even the way some people manage to transcend the limitations of their body. They are all aspects of this search for self. See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/archetype-of-the-night-journey-the-search-for-self/

You are ready to go on this journey if you can surrender yourself to Life within you. See http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/opening-to-life/

Hi Tony, Anna,

I had a dream last night where I was on a street with nice homes near my childhood home. But unlike in reality, the back of the homes on this street fronted a beautiful beach. In the dream, there was a strong “feel good” emotion, and (I hope this makes sense!) I had a sense of ownership to the area, like I belonged there, yet none of the houses were mine! And then I walked down to a little gazebo by the beach, stopping short of getting onto the sand. The beach was quite a bit lower than the level of the ground I was on. Suddenly, a big wave comes and a couple walking on the beach are swept away (I even vividly saw them fall down and into the water), and I turn around to run, but didn’t need to, as somehow the water came close to the side of the gazebo, full of debris, but just doesn’t touch me. But the emotion change was very strong – I felt horrible, like the feeling one gets watching the apocalypse-themed films! If it makes a difference, the water was greenish as the wave rolled in.

I’ve had a number of waves dreams before but didn’t document them, except for one where I was at a small beach camping town, same initial feel good emotion, and then a giant tsunami came, and I managed to escape into the high hills, and helplessly watch the catastrophe unfold from a safe spot. Same horrid emotion afterwards.

    -Tony Crisp 2016-09-22 9:52:04

Hi Rudy – A very descriptive dream, which I will try to make understandable.

You start in your home territory, but it is not the physical home because the houses are backed by a beach, so it is the inner home you carry inside you. Dreams use a beach to represent many things, such as the ‘feel good’ sense. But if you begin to define what a beach is you can see it as a meeting place for water, earth, air and sun – earth, air, fire and water. But the beach is not any one of them. It changes with the seasons and with the action of storms, of erosion and temperature. It isn’t the air, or the sea or the earth. It changes yet stays the same – the beach. As a symbol of yourself, you could say, “I am not anything. I change yet am unchanged. I am all things but nothing.” This gives a very powerful sense of your being, underlying all the changes of your body and personality.

In other words, you contacted your core self. See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/core/

You owned everything because you ARE everything! It is important to realise that every image, every scary or terrifying thing, is taken place inside you, in your mind, as you sleep. This means that every awful animal, every scary thing or person, is created out of your own fears and must not be seen as outside you as happens in waking awareness. Everything is an aspect of you, for you created it out of everything you are – your highest and your lowest.

“A big wave comes and a couple walking on the beach are swept away (I even vividly saw them fall down and into the water), and I turn around to run, but didn’t need to, as somehow the water came close to the side of the gazebo, full of debris, but just doesn’t touch me.”

The action of dreams, their drama, all arise from our core self, and expression of Life acting in and though us. But its action is always self-regulating – it doesn’t give us more than we can cope with and often moves a bit closer to us over time. The wave coming in from the ocean – the ocean is the hugeness we are but are largely unaware of (see http://dreamhawk.com/inner-life/the-unconscious-2/) but tries to show us its splendour. The wave is the hugeness reaching out for you. It is full of the debris, the rubbish most of us call our thoughts, convictions and activities. When we open to the action of Life streaming through us, the first thing it does is to remove the rubbish that has blocked its flow.

whats the meaning of my dream? i will start my dream. i was riding in a speedboat in the middle of the sea and when i gas it it flies. i flies very very high.and when i stop it i fall to the.sea. and i cant remember if this scenario is the continuation. i can fly in the sea im so small or my uncles friend is just too big hes like giant walking in the ocean and while me im im walking in the air im too small and we have goos conversation

-Jeannie 2016-09-13 18:52:18

I dreamt I was in the bough of a big boat with lots of strangers on a calm sea. I could see out a window into a wide harbor with other boats. My best friend floated toward my boat on a square mat. Once she got close to my boat she started to walk on other floating mats in an attempt to get on my boat when my boat’s engine started and I ran up to the top of the boat to ask the captain to stop and wait but the boat took off. I never found out if my friend made it into the boat before I woke up. I’m so sad about this. What could it mean?

    -Jeannie 2016-09-13 19:47:33

I should clarify: my best friend relied on me for a lot. She can’t do most things on her own. I feel like I abandoned her. She’s floating by herself now and I have no control over leaving her. Is there any other way to interpret this?

    -Tony Crisp 2016-09-14 10:22:14

Jeannie – First, when people dream about someone they know or a strange new person or situation they automatically believe the dream is about that person, situation or animal. But when we think of our friend or partner our thoughts are not them – just our thoughts and feelings about them. So dream images are ways of communicating via our associations not actual things or people. In the world of dreams our most intimate fears and longings are given an exterior life of their own in the form of the people, objects and places of our dream.

Many people do not realise that they have an inner person equally as powerful as the external person you know. You have taken in millions of bit of memory, lessons learnt, life experiences along with all the feelings or problems met by meeting or living with them, and they are what makes you the person you are. The memories and experience we gather unconsciously change us and are not lost. It is part of you and is symbolised in dreams as a person or event. Such an inner person can appear in dreams because you still carry the memories or impressions of them, and so they influenced what you hold within you.

You dream suggests you are about to go in a direction with many people – as can happen with work or joint activities. Your friend represents the part of you that is not so capable, and so you try to make up for the lack. But in fact that part of you will be left behind as your life takes on a new phase.

-Brandon 2016-09-02 4:47:24

I dreamed that I attended some sort of spiritual/church type event at a smaller sized stadium or convention center. I have no recollection of what went on in the event, I only remember leaving, but knew what type of event it was by the clothes people were wearing and the people I saw there. The first part of the event had concluded and the next part of the event was being held at a separate location than the first. The second location was give or take 3-4 blocks from the end of the arena’s large parking lot. The weather outside was sunny, so many people began to just walk to the next location, others drove. I decided my wife and I would drive. As we walked to the car, the sky began to fill with grey clouds. We got into the car and next thing I know, it’s pouring rain. There had to be hundreds of people walking getting soaked by the down pour. Amongst the people walking/running in the rain, I recognized one of my “God-Fathers” (influential male figure in my life), and called out to him to get in our car. He ran over, jumped in and commented how crazy the change in weather was. We get in line with the other cars leaving to the second part of the event, however because of the down pour, we were at a stand still in traffic. I lean my head back in the seat and look through the sun roof at the sky, and kind of begin to zone out watching the rain and he clouds. As the clouds moved, I started to see glimpses of a deep, yet clear blue color beyond/above them. This caught my attention and struck me as odd, because it was early afternoon. As I watched for more openings, to investigate the color, the clouds began to separate in larger portions, and I could see rays of light shimmering through this deep blue color. It was almost as if I was standing under the glass bottom of a deep pool or water tank, and the sun somewhere above the water. In the dream I remember thinking “That can’t be right, the sky doesn’t work like that.” Lol. As I examined it closer, I started to see sillouettes of objects moving around in this deep blue (seemingly watery) sky. Initially I couldn’t imagine what they could be, but after watching their movements for a few minutes, the only thing they resembled, was oceanic animals. Then I started recognizing their shapes and out lines. I could only see the dark outlines of them, but I could tell there were sharks, whales, dolphins, schools of fish, etc. It looked like I was watching ocean life, looking up from the sea floor, buuuut the sea was above the clouds, in the sky. Everything, on earth was normal, just down pouring rain. Once I processed what they were, still confused, (calm, no fear or anxiety, just confused), I asked my wife and my God-father to look up and see if they saw what I was seeing. “Does that look like fish, whales, and sharks to you?” They both looked up and were confused as I was, but then agreed, “Uhhh that’s exactly what it looks like!” No one outside or around us noticed at all, as they were all scrambling to their cars or trying to run across the parking lot to the next event. We all stared up, puzzled, I looked down from the sunroof to see if the car infront of me had moved, and then I woke up to my wife say goodbye because she was leaving for work, (today was my day off lol). I tried to go right back to sleep to investigate the ocean in the sky more, but could not fall back asleep. Soooo I’ve tried to find things online to explain an ocean in the sky dream, and have only found theories about oceans or skies, but not an ocean IN the sky. Your responses seem pretty current, so I was hoping to get your input on what the dream could mean. Thank you in advance 🙂 -Brandon

    -Tony Crisp 2016-09-02 10:40:22

Brandon – Your confusion is that you are treating dreams as if they are waking life. Yet in dreams we are in a totally different dimension in which are thoughts, feeling and fears are alive and take shape. If you can imagine a book and the cover is a dream images, but the inner book is alive and intelligent, because the animals, scenes and people are the living aspects of our own inner enormity.

To quote a review of a scientist thoughts, “Dean Radin is a fearless scientist and man of heart who’s willing to take a stand about the enormity of human consciousness.”
But we have to remember that having a personality with self awareness is a very new thing and has only existed for a short time. Before that we were like animals that lived only in the Life Will – what we usually call instincts. So the development of self awareness was an immense step, and left us very vulnerable, and still does. Many people as their awareness reaches beyond what they feel is their normal self feel confused or scared.

In staring into space, you were looking into the depths of your own being, often depicted in dreams as the ocean. Please see http://dreamhawk.com/news/there-is-a-huge-change-happening/ and http://dreamhawk.com/inner-life/the-unconscious-2/

I had a dream that I was on a beach when we realized a storm was coming. Everyone stared leaving the beach but my mom took me into her car and there was a freeway on the beach heading towards the storm. We were going to beat the storm heading slightly into it instead of leaving behind us which was sunny and storm free. Looking down the winding beach, I saw two huge fish the size of boats thrown on the sand. They were still alive. We were astonished by their size and I wondered if we would male it before the deep blue skies overcame us.

Hello Ana Tony
Thank you so very much

I opened an old little rustic door/window of our large open house and then I saw the beach and dying horses lying down – They do not eat and drink salt water
Suddenly the waves came crashing in my window
I closed it just in time
But the sea was trying to come inside
I managed to close it, but The wind pulled our window out
But I didn’t worry because the house was open,
and the water would go out as it went it

-Tashi 2016-06-17 19:08:29

I dream of sea.. always a night sea….but all those are not same dreams…once I saw myself walking on the surface of water …and once I saw myself in a house ..probably it was mine …just near the shore..where water touches it and is getting inside ….once I saw tides coming to a huge rock…and myself on that rock ..and I am ..in reality a bit afraid of deep waters ..but in these dreams …such night seas don’t afraid me ..I do not fear the night tide..or the deepness…it doesn’t bother me …
Plz tell ..what does it mean …I m afraid ….

-Lynne 2016-04-20 20:08:32

Hi Tony,
I have a dream frequently about sea.. Its not the same dream repeating, but in different fashion. The theme is i am always in the sea.. Can’t even say it’s a bad dream of good dream too. I am confused what to predict about this incident. Actually sometimes I see I am walking the steps above the sea.. But suddenly breaking the steps n falling in the sea. The next dream is.. The steps is on the surface of water.. In d gap of the steps water is there. In here I am jumping n holding the step each by each n going inside the water. I can see the waves moving in both dreams. Can u please help me?

I dreamed I was swimming with 3 of my high school friends of which I am no longer friends with. While we were swimming a huge wave like a Tsunami swept us to the shore. we ran to the closest building and we were safe. Once the wave settled I and one of the friend decided to go back to swim. As we got closer to the water the wave again started and we were running for cover. As we were running I notice that the eldery people we just seating looking at the wave and their faces seemed like they have given up. This sight made me weak I lost hope and started giving in as well. I then heard machine gun shots as I turned around to look at the wave, it had changed into two evil looking women one was very pretty and one was just an ordinary person nothing pretty about her. then I said this was the devil in this wave . What does sthis wave mean??

Dear Brenda – A tsunami can indicate a tremendous and fundamental change in you. Most people now know that tsunamis are caused by massive earth changes under the sea. These changes are part of the natural order, and often show themselves to people in their dreams. So they can be understood as an expression of our personal adaptation to enormous changes. They can wash away most of the beliefs, social structures we have built or held onto as important. Yet if we are not afraid of change and the forces that we are actually involved in, then we can find enormous power and force within us.
Remember that tsunamis are dangerous in waking life, but are the expression of your inner life in dreams. They are not dangerous and need not be avoided or run from while asleep. Meeting a tsunami is saying that some tremendous change has happened deep in you and in the world. Tsunamis are caused by earthquakes on the sea bed. So many people are dreaming about them at the moment because of the enormous change going on around us and within us. So learn to face them without fear and be ready to meet change in your life and in your family, which decision may change your perception that “the devil (evil) is in this wave”.
Evil is ‘live’ spelt backwards. In dreams the sense or presence of evil is often depicting those things you have so repressed that they are no longer properly alive and healthy. Repression has turned them back upon you making them an internal evil. They therefore need meeting and being brought into proper recognition and expression; http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/opening-to-life/

all i know is that i was chased or something..i was looking for a way to escape.. then i found myself walking through a very dark tunnel. i’ve thought that maybe, the tunnel has an end, and maybe i can escape from there. however, when i reached the end of the tunnel, there was a sea. a very vast ocean. it was dark because it happened during the night. then ive thought, i cant escape from there because i cant swim all the way through..i stepped back, until i tripped into a metal gate on the floor. as i looked down, i saw a prisoner underneath that gate.. because i tripped on that gate, i awakened the prisoner and i accidentally opened the gate.. the prisoner noticed me and made his way up.. i ran away from him, and from the end of the tunnel…this was how my dream ended… what do all of these mean? i was really disturbed by this dream

Dear Queenie – In your dream you explore other ways of dealing with thoughts and feelings (memories) that are haunting you. The way “to escape” from what is chasing you, is the way into the dark tunnel; the way within.
Entering a dark tunnel usually signifies entering into experiences you do not understand and are not fully aware of, usually past experiences that are felt but not verbalised or made conscious yet.
What you become aware of in the tunnel is that you are a prisoner of your own fears that stop you from “swimming all the way through” when you reach the very vast ocean.
This sea may depict a strange environment in which you believe to have no skill in surviving; something new or strange that confronts you; the boundary between unconscious and conscious.
It takes some courage to dare to question your belief that you cannot swim through – http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/beliefs/ – and to confront your own inner darkness.
Mythologically the night sea journey is described as being swallowed up by a sea monster and thereby carried into the depths of the sea – the story of Jonah. Psychologically it is the experience of one’s life energy turning inwards and descending back toward its root or source. In doing so our poor vulnerable self-awareness, our tiny spark of consciousness is carried beneath the protective boundary of waking awareness into its own depths. This is akin to travelling into the darkness of sleep with awareness. Sleep, after all, is a strange country in which our waking self seldom if ever travels.
Imagine – if you have not already made the journey – delving into the level of yourself where your eyes no longer see, your body sense of form or size and touch have disappeared.
There is no hearing of the external world. You are sinking into the country of what we call the mind or consciousness, the world of sleep, death and dreams, in which the usual boundaries of experience are taken away. Here you meet – given form by your fears and cultural symbols, as if with real bodies – your own fears, the pains buried deep in your past, the residues of all past actions so far unredeemed; http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/opening-to-life/
But you also meet the wonder of an enormously enlarged awareness, the sparkling immediacy of questions answered, the splendour of bodiless life linking in love and mind with an infinity of others. Here you experience the vision of the spirit’s journeys into time and space, and its life in eternity. Here you are the genderless consciousness of angels; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/archetype-of-the-night-journey-the-search-for-self/

For the past few weeks I have been having these frequent nightmares. After I wake up I have a hard time remembering them but this morning I woke up again and I was having a dream where I was walking along this dirt road with fields at each sides and my friend Hannah came beside me and there were two other young male figures in front of us in a vehicle. Hannah and I were talking about something but I can’t remember what. We started talking about racing and then I started talking about motorcycles and that if I had mine there I could beat her. All of a a sudden I’m on a bike (a regular bike not a motorcycle) and I’m peddling as fast as a can and I start peddling harder and I’m not paying attention and I look back and I fall into an ocean out of no where. The bike flings into the water and I come up from the water and look back. Hannah is standing at the dirt road and she’s yelling at me to hurry up and come back to the road. I start trying to swim but It’s like the more I move the harder it was to get back to land. If anyone could please tell me what this means I’d appreciate it very much, Thanks.

Dear Baylee – It will be interesting to explore if your thought to “beat Hannah” is about reaching “the two other young male figures in front of us in a vehicle” first.
For that purpose you can enter your dream again while awake and use “Being the person” for your own dream figure as she appears in your dream; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson
You can explore what your dream figures feel when “Hannah comes beside me”
and when “I’m peddling as fast as I can and I start peddling harder”.
What do you mean with “I’m not paying attention”?
If you play with the idea that not paying attention may be about “letting go” – about surrendering your ego – then what does it feel like to “fall into an ocean out of nowhere”?

You can also explore if learning to deal with your (sexual) urges and energy is about doing it at your own pace and find your own way of expressing it, rather than feeling that you have to catch up with the men in their vehicle or beat your friend Hannah.
