Whale

The whale can depict the powerful evolutionary drive involved in reproduction, and what lies behind individual male or femaleness. It is the beneficent power of the collective unconscious – the enormous life and mind that underlies our own little area of personal awareness. It can also indicate the ability to dive deeply into your unconscious life process and awareness.

Example: ‘I was leaning over the settee with my hands cupped under my chin looking out of the window. The view was spectacular, in that it was as if the house was situated on top of a cliff overlooking a huge bay, shaped like a horseshoe, with the house in the middle. From the sea suddenly, coming into the bay I could see three enormous whales making their way toward me. As I was staring in amazement they began to transform themselves and come up out of the water as three giant Viking like figures. They were so huge, that the water came up only to their knees and everything was moving so slowly, as they waded towards me. It was the most awe-inspiring thing I had ever seen in my life.’ Sue B.

The bay, the beautiful sea, the sperm whales/men, show Sue touching the most primordial yet inspiring aspects of her own womanhood and urge to find a mate and love. See: Religion and dreams; Sea.

Example: Tony, I had a dream last night of at least 5 or 6 gigantic, larger than life sized whales swimming in the ocean very near the shore! They were tremendous, powerful and I sensed that they were very aware of the people at the shore and their own magnitude. I wasn’t afraid; what could this mean?

Your dream shows that you are no stranger to your own inner/psychic/wider world pf awareness. Also, that the whales their size and their nearness to shore says that you are growing ever more aware of the world beyond your physical senses. The ocean itself is the huge world that most of us are unaware of for the sea, with its surface and hidden depths, lends itself to depicting this human experience of known and unknown regarding yourself. The enormity of the sea is also a visible image of the enormity of your own inner world – much of it unknown and lying in pre-birth or pre-speech – and also the relationship you have with the processes underlying your existence, that you exist by yet know so little about. The sea holds vast treasures, curiosities, and your history.

Idioms: Big fish; big fish in a small pond; cold fish; fish for compliments; fish out of water; queer fish; smell something fishy.

Useful questions:
Am I meeting a deeper awareness of my relationship with the fundamental drives in me?
Has a change occurred where I am starting the inner journey into who I am beyond the surface personality?
Have I recently felt a wider awareness of what I am?

I dreamt last night of a huge wave that came right up to the top of the beach and many whales tails suddenly appeared out of the sea. Then the whales flipped up onto their tails as if they were standing on the water and it was obvious it was mating season as they all had erect penis’s.

What does this mean????

Julie – I have only ever seen one other dream like this.

Whales represent the enormous and primal force that give Life and leads us toward choosing a mate.

Your dream means that you are at the heigtht of your female and sexual sttractiveness. Also you are very open to mating and having an offspring – if you wished. It also means you are receiving a tremendous ability of creativeness – not just with having a child.

Hi Tony

I had a dream last night that upset me greatly, and I wondered if you could help? I have your dream dictionary, which I use all the time, but I have a feeling I’m missing something deeper here.

I dreamt I was back on the Gold Coast in Australia where I used to live with my husband and my eldest son, and I was on holiday (I knew in the dream being back on the Gold Coast was only temporary) and I was looking down on the beach from about a third or fourth floor balcony. Suddenly whales started breaching (it happens in the winter there) but they flopped onto the concrete patio area below instead of crashing back into the sea and they were trapped. I watched in horror as whale after whale beached itself on the concrete, tail slapping the ground, noisily calling, all of them looking up at me. They were arranged in rows of 3 and I counted 39 of them in all. I tried to shout down to the crowd of men who had arrived to water the whales and keep them from drying out, but the men were just laughing at the thrashing of the whales. I felt so upset. My son said ‘Look Mum! It’s snowing’ and I said, ‘Don’t be daft, it never snows on the Gold Coast’ but as I looked across the beach, I saw a thin covering of white snow and I hoped that it was enough to save the whales before they died. Then I woke up, really upset that I had been so impotent I had only been able to watch.

Any help with this one would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve had this reoccurring dream, while living at home with an extremely verbally and physically abusive mother. Same dream. Over and over. No variation at all.

I am holding hands with my mother and we’re walking towards a cliff. Still holding hands we jump. I’m not frightened but at the bottom of this cliff I see a sperm whale. End of dream. [I don’t remember when dream stopped.]
Any thoughts?
Thank you deeply, Cindy

I dreamed about the basement of my house was filled with water, like a large pool, it was dark and hard to see, and within the water was a whale that I was trying to keep alive. I was worried that the whale wouldn’t survive in the pool in my basement, so I somehow moved the water outside to a large yard which became a lake and the whale was swimming in there. The whole time I was concerned about how to find a permanent home for the whale, but couldn’t figure out a way to move the whale to the ocean. Then I woke up.

Lori – Your dream has classic dream symbols. The pool in the basement says that your dreams show you what happens just below the level of your normal awareness. In fact you have entered a wider awareness – Travelling into the depths of the mind is not an uncommon experience, and is described even in ancient myths and folklore. Imagine you are going to communicate with a part of yourself that has an unlimited amount of information and influence to share with you. What this dimension of yourself gives you will be in direct response to what you may be unconsciously asking.

The whale represent a living and intelligent aspect of the huge being you are in this awareness. The whale also represents the Life Process that is huge but is unconscious in most people. You gradually realise you are under estimating the whale, and wan to see it in its own environment – the ocean. That means you are trying to access your full potential. We are all born with an immense potential that often remains latent because of the condition of our body, our education, our prevalent social teachings, or our belief that what authority figures and parents say is taken as truth. As Plato said so long ago, “Strange times are these in which we live when old and young are taught falsehoods in school. And the person that dares to tell the truth is called at once a lunatic and a fool”.

If you can accept that you have a huge but unexpressed self, you can also probably accept that the latent potential, if it is beginning to show in our present life, will be presented as our future self, the self we can become by developing. You can transfer the whale to the lake by visualising the move; remember how easy it was to shift it to lake, by simply desiring it. It is an amazing thing to do, and is often experienced as a huge ocean of mind, the collective unconscious as Jung called it. It feels like nature’s memory, where all experience is stored. I had a dream that my girfriend was in Hong Kong and we were talking over skype. She was walking along the coast when all of a sudden all these whales started breaching out of the water. Everyone was completely awe struck! In the middle of the dream while the whales were still breaching I am awakened by her actually calling me, from Hong Kong..!

Oh my goodness! I had a very similar dream this morning. I was at a beach with my brother. Just hanging out before the sun went down. Several people were also on the beach with us. When all of a sudden sperm whales came out of the water right by the shore, which I thought was strange because the water was so shallow. And then they were giants. One spoke to me but I can no longer remember what he told me.

Last night i had a dream where i was swimming in the ocean above a whale whom i was feeding with cut up pieces of fish in a black bowl.

I felt so comfortable and unafraid while i was doing this, i remember going beneath the surface of the water at some point to look at the whale swim towards me.

Please what do you think about this?

Last night I dreamed that we were camping in our 5th wheel. My husband had backed the trailer up right to the waters edge. When we woke in the morning we were all sitting around the door looking out at the ocean. All of a sudden I see a whale surfacing right outside our door. I was so excited! Then suddenly there was another. Soon there were thousands of whales swimming and surfacing but not jumping out of the water completely. I could just see their backs. It was beautiful.

I dreamed I was rowing past three beautiful whales in a calm harbour, with a man in the boat behind me I couldn’t see. When we came close to the whales the current pulled the boat away, I touched one of the whales. It was an exciting yet relaxing dream and was lifelike, as ini felt I was there.

hi,

I had a dream of two whales approaching the shore during sunset and it was from my bedroom view. i quickly ran to the balcony and took my phone to snap a picture and then they just dissolved. But i remembered how i felt during this dream. I felt excited and happy, but in a relaxed way. The feeling that i’ve been longing, to breakfree and enjoy life. What does this all mean?

thanks.

    -Tony Crisp 2015-11-24 10:29:35

Kutriva – The two whales represent the process of Life within you that usually remain unknown and yet are vital. The appeared to you because a change is happening within you that you are trying to capture or remain conscious of – you took a photo. They dissolved because you are finding it difficult to hold on to the feeling of breaking free to enjoy life.

But to find ways of keeping the feeling alive in you it is important to understand what causes changes and feelings in you. It is usually outside things that cause the reactions, so we may feel fear, sexy, hope, confidence, terror, wonder, curiosity, lost or courageous; so in a way we are victims of what other people and the world do to us. Our ideas and beliefs are the main builders, and it is a world we then live in.

Nearly all our reactions are habits, and the trick of shifting them is to start a new habit. Also you need to realise that there is a huge difference between your ‘conscious life’ and your inner life. So please read http://dreamhawk.com/inner-life/inner-world/#MakesInner and http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/martial-art-of-the-mind/

We would not be able to walk or talk without the amazing support of our habits. But some habits, like repeatedly choosing a destructive lover, destroying our health, constantly feeling inferior, destroying opportunity or mishandling authority figures, are more undermining than supportive. The more aware we become, the more we become aware of these negative habits and their roots. This in itself transforms them in some degree.

But we can also speed up the process. For instance our humanness is built on a much older animal self that still has its natural ways of responding to pain and anxiety. So please see http://dreamhawk.com/inner-life/habits/

Aloha,

Last night I had a dream where I was sitting in a restaurant on a dock, and as my friend was talking to me . . I noticed huge killer whales were breaching extremely close to the window of the restaurant. I pulled out my iPhone to take a photo, and in that moment a whale jumped out of the water and lunged towards me.
What do you think this means?
