Wolf

Although the wolf can depict a feeling that ‘things’ are out to get us, the wolf in our dream often depicts just our fear. Fear is one of our instinctive reactions to situations, so is shown by an animal. We may find ourselves a prisoner of such feelings, as Anna in the example below. The wolf, as is suggested by such fairy stories as Red Riding Hood, also represents the female fear of powerful male sexuality; repressed sexuality or anger; emotions and drives that frighten you. See Animals

Also whenever we dream its images are not like real life. Because a dream is nothing like outer life where things could hurt you, but is an image like on a cinema screen that even if a gun is pointed at you and fired it can do no damage – except if you run in fear. So all the things that scare you are simply your own fears projected onto the screen of your sleeping mind. In the early days of moving pictures, a film was shown of a train coming fast toward the audience; the viewers all fled in terror, fearing the train would crush them. That is exactly the same response if you are terrified of any thing you dream of. See Masters of Nightmares

But the wolf also appears in our dreams as a master of life in the wild. It is a group animal and has tremendous loyalty and protectiveness to its family and group. As such it can depict your intuitive understanding of life on earth, the seasons of life and death, and the deep wisdom of group relations. In some dreams the wolf is a protective companion on your life journey – what in the past has been called a spirit guide or totem animal. This sort of wisdom tells us that aggressive urges are natural to us, but sometimes they can turn back on ourselves and injure our well being. You might then even dream of killing the wolf or animal in you. But love can resurrect that vital animal life and consciousness within you and the world. The following dream and commentary illustrates this.

Quote: We have doomed the wolf not for what it is, but for what we have deliberately and mistakenly perceived it to be… the mythologized epitome of a savage ruthless killer… which in reality is no more than a reflected image of ourselves. Harley Blake.

To see the wonderful nature of wolves watch https://www.facebook.com/AppreciateENG/videos/1763709230595548/?t=63

Example: I dreamt two great wolf like dogs were on a headland. They had to be killed for some reason. I shot them. They seemed to take a long time to die and I felt compassion for them. Now horses seemed to be lying with them. The death struggles became the horses – mares – struggles to give birth. I saw the vagina parted to show a head. Birth would follow. Nathan.

Nathan explored his dream and had the following intuitive response to it as if someone was explaining it to him:

“When you were trying to murder the animal forces in yourself they would not die, they only thresh about, trying to survive. Try bringing life to them. The bringing of love is represented by your desire not to have them suffer. Great love turns the destructiveness of the lower forces into creativeness. The gun was the destructiveness of the fears and angers in you turned against yourself. The love redeemed this power, directing it in a new way. Love enables new life to emerge. The new life promises strength where there was only fear. When you love yourself, you lift parts of your being into new life.”

EXAMPLE: “I was in a caravan in the middle of a field and in this field was a large black wolf. Every time I tried to run from the caravan to the edge of the field, the wolf chased me back, so I was a prisoner in the caravan. It all sounds so simple now, but at the time I was truly terrified.” Anna S.

This next example from Oliver, a boy of six, illustrates how such fears can be met with a little courage. It is a dream which recurred several times, so his description is of a series of dreams.

EXAMPLE: “I am in my bed in my own room and I hear what I know to be a wolf wearing the sort of clogs worn in Lancashire. When the wolf gets to a certain point, there is a bang, and I wake terrified. My Mother’s reassurances do not help. Each night he gets a bit nearer before my panicky awakening. The night came when I know he will reach me. Sure enough he arrives, and the bedroom door – in my dream – is flung wide open with a tremendous bang. There is no one there. I never dreamt it again.”

When something gets nearer to us in a dream, it means that it is moving nearer to consciousness. So Oliver’s wolf – or at least, what it represents, namely his response to his childhood fears – is becoming ever more conscious. This means he is facing his fear and thereby dealing with it. If he had run away or fought to keep the door closed, then it would have gone on haunting him.

The wolf can also be a protective and life-giving symbol as in the following dream. In the dream Cathy is demonstrating a loving and unified relationship with her natural or instinctive feelings.

Example: I dreamt about a white wolf. I know you won’t believe this but I actually feel like I touched its fur in my dreams. I was protecting it and it was protecting me, and it was so real I woke up looking on the floor next to my bed to see if it was there. Cathy

IDIOMS: Wolf at the door; wolf in sheep’s clothing; cry wolf; throw to the wolves; a wolf – meaning a man who lusts after women and pursues them like a predator.

Useful questions are:

Am I still dealing with anxiety with my dream wolf – if so how can I change this?

Do I relate to the wolf as an ally or an enemy?

Is my dream wolf showing a negative relationship with my fears and aggression?

Are you accepting the wolf as a protector and giver of wisdom?

Alyssa – I see the dream as a reflection of your wonderful inner process.
You are a great observer and it is very helpful to you.
See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/friend/ and http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/self-observation/

The dream starts with you feeling at ease with many aspects of yourself.
The male aspect is connected with fear; the wolves chasing him and through observing you become aware of that.
Your observing approach towards your inner process allows you to take one step at a time; first you allow the man into your house (mind)
See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/archetype-of-the-animus-jungs-view-of-the-male-in-the-female/
Through observing the wolves you then gained awareness about the needs of the wolves; they want to be allowed into
your mind too and they need to be offered “food and water”.
See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/food/ and http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/water/

Your loving, caring approach towards Life and your ability to communicate with Life helps to slowly dissolve the fear.
It is this helpful approach which leads to giving birth to “more than you are”, expressed in the dream by the wolf giving birth.
See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/what-we-need-to-remember-about-us-3/#Reflect
Your dream is a beautiful reflection of your inner recourses as well and how you are able to make use of them.
A lucky woman you are and there is no need to worry at all.

I had a dream last night that has me concerned about a friend of mine. It starts out I’m in a recliner by a fire reading a book in my mansion I remember random details of the mansion. The red curtains the intricately detailed fireplace.. The absolute comfort of my home. All of the sudden a loud banging begins on my door. I hurry to it and when I open it its my friend so I let him in he tells me he’s being chased I look behind him and its a pack of wolves had to of been about ten or so. I offer him a blanket and tea try to get him to tell me what happened as he’s talking I tune out and just observe these wolves who are circling my house.. Pacing.. Watching.. And the longer I observe them the clearer it becomes to me that they are frightened and were following Jordan looking for a safe haven I suppose. But the fear was clear. So I allow them in. They were hesitant but they came slowly one by one I offer them food and water. One is pregnant and is about to give birth. These wolves are standoffish but trust me enough to allow me to help the pregnant one give birth. Two sat beside me one on each side. The pregnant one in front and one beside her. The others were scattered across the room watching. Never once did they seem aggressive. Just scared and when I would look at them I could feel like we were communicating. I made him help me with the pregnant wolf and the pups he really didn’t want to he thought I was crazy but I had to. I absolutely had to help these wolves. As soon as he sat down to help with the pups I woke up. And Im concerned because everything I’ve read to try to decipher this dream says he has enemies. If you could get back to me as soon as you can I’d appreciate that. Thank you.

i dreamed that i was driving and i encountered a black wolf and a white wolf was watching as the black wolf attacked the car/me. i hit the black wolf with the car and continued to drive. i came to another black wolf, and i was frightened, but the white wolf told me to allow the second black wolf to attack me and i did. and i ended up safe. then later in my dream, i arrived home to see that the white wolf was in my house. it ran into my bedroom and the door shut behind it. i entered the room to find that the white wolf ate my dog. and then the white wolf turned into a husky puppy. what could this mean?

Every few months I have a dream where I am outside in a field with my kids and we are kicking a ball to each other. When out of nowhere a grey wolf races in and takes one of my kids. What is this symbolizing? I’m happy with my life, but each time I have this dream makes me want to protect my kids even more. I awake seconds after the wolf takes my child.
Thanks

I dreamt i was walking in a field behind my house, i saw 3 towels along the fenceline & decided to pick them up to wash them. I started to tug at the last one, then left it, picking up the first one. Underneath it, there was a sleeping wolf. Alarmed, i started to walk away quickly. I walked toward a small broken down cabin at the back of my property realizing the wolf was now awake and following me. It started to attack me as i came to the door of the cabin and i fought with it. I realized id woken up the second wolf tugging at the towel and it was approaching too. I saw a knife and grabbed it and started stabbing the first wolf as the second came up. It stood back and watched as i killed the first and cut it into 3 pieces. I expected it to attack but it just looked at me with this deep sadness and i knew i had just killed its mate. I felt somewhat remorseful for this but i didnt know what else to do.

Hey i just had a dream last night about wolves . I was in my old appt with my mother , sister and grandmother . I went to go outside i dont remember for what and i looked up and saw some cats on the field , then i saw about 4 to 5 wolves walking towards it . They attacked them , then saw me & cand running towards me . I screamed & told my family to lock all the doors but then the wolves started to break thru the screens so i grabbed everyone & ran to a room with them and we hid there. They kept trying to break in but couldnt . Eventually they stopped & just sat there waiting for us . So we got out and started to try to get them out b shooing them away and it worked . One by one they all left but one that was in all grey and white which i believe was the leader because he attacked u first , he was outside waiting and when i went to go look he was looking right at me and then left . What does my dream mean ?

I had a dream that my husband was sitting next to a fence. There was a wolf on the other side of this fence and he was talking to it. All of a sudden the wolf started licking my husband’s face, my husband’s face was almost completely in the wolf’s mouth. I started yelling at him to stop, to move his face that the wolf was going to bite him but he didn’t stop. So I threw my cell phone at it the wolf to try and distract it.The wolf grabbed the phone tried to bite it a few times and then threw it away. What does this mean??

Hello,
My daughter recently had a dream that we were having a nice relaxing and fun picnic at the park and all of a sudden, “The Big Bad Wolf” was chasing me. And no matter how hard she tried it wouldn’t stop. What could that possibly mean? Any insight would be very appreciated.

    -Tony Crisp 2014-10-15 8:28:13

Lena – It seems that your daughter has a fear of losing you. It is common and is expressed in the form of a story about loss. It would be good to assure your daughter that you love her and have no desire to leave her. Also tell your daughter that you live inside her as all the good memories she has of you.

I was just falling asleep but I wasn’t all the way sleep yet and I started dreaming wasn’t nun there then all of a sudden a black and brown wolf jumped out in front for me and it scared me and I woke up! What does this mean???

-Austinn bill 2014-09-06 0:00:08

Hello my name is Austinn, and last night I had a dream that is somewhat disturbing. I had a dream where I was in this beautiful forest. Standing on a moss covered bed, but as I looked down at where my feet should have been I saw in stead of seeing my feet I say these white paws. Suddenly I look up and I’m standing near a creek made of the purest water, so clear that I could see the bottom. As I look down at the reflection I see these golden colored eyes staring back at me, and that I’m covered in white fur. As I look up I see a large, larger than normal stag standing on the opposite side of the creek from me. It had gold antlers and pure white fir with tan spots. Next thing I know I’m running through the woods chasing this stag. But no matter how fast I run or how hard I try it’s always just out of my reach… What does this dream mean?

-Carlene 2014-08-20 2:35:10

Hello Tony,

A few weeks ago I had a dream (my second wolf dream). I woke up because I felt something jump onto my bed by my feet, but when I looked at the bottom of my bed there was nothing there. I fell back to sleep and once again I felt something jump onto the bed by my feet and it felt like paws, but when I looked at the bottom of my bed I still did not see anything. I fell back to sleep and I awoke to snoring and I assumed it was my boyfriend so I fell back to sleep. I awoke awake again because of the snoring and I looked at my boyfriend and I realized it wasn’t him because it was an animal like snore. I tried to move it but it would move and it kept snoring. I fell back to sleep, and I began to dream of a black wolf. I can’t seem to get the dream out of my head, because it felt so real.

What is it when you dream that shows you a beautiful lake and a sparkly field and an Owl big one and wolf are standing over you..like they are watching over you and you are woke up by something touching you softly on your right shoulder.everything I saw and felt was so real

    -Tony Crisp 2014-08-07 7:57:36

Gail – You know from what you felt in the dream what it means. You know you were touched by and awoken to a beautiful new sense of yourself.

But what most people do not realise is that the images in your dream are like icons on a computer screen – they remain lifeless images unless clicked on. You can have a hundred different opinions when you have an interpretation, because interpretations are only peoples thoughts. But if you enter it/click on it the dream opens up its wonders for you. So see http://dreamhawk.com/inner-life/clicking-on/ and http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson

-Corina 2014-07-24 9:28:11

So, I’ve beem having the same dream for about three months. Im in an old house in the woods and im running with a gray wolf by my side and then i look again at the wolf and and its me that has turned into the wolf…it runs so fast that it leaps into the sky and flies with no wings. Can anybody tell me what this means

    -Tony Crisp 2014-07-28 9:47:03

Corina – There is so much that needs to be explained about dreams. So first of all read http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/questions-2/#Summing

Also something that needs remembering is that dreams are a half way house between your central self/core self and our personal awareness. It is a form of communication between what has no recognised form as far as our personality or reasoning mind is concerned. So to do this it uses images of people, things and animals, as well as scenes that we might understand if we explore what we associate with the dream images. See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/association-of-ideas-with-dreams/#Working and http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/questions-2/#Arising

The old house is realisations, abilities that came with you into this lifetime. It represents your natural unprogrammed self. The wolf is an expression of a part of your brain that you have allowed full expression to. See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/brain-levels-and-dreams/ . It is the mammal side of all humans, but very few are at home with it as your dream says you are. That you shape-shift into the wolf shows you gaining a whole new awareness of yourself and what you see around you. The brain levels piece will explain some of that.

The flying wolf/you is a wonderful thing. In its flight it is showing how you can leave behind all the small visions and thoughts of so many and enter an inner world that is transcendent and free.

Example: Particularly I miss coming alive for the first time – really alive and with a knowing and awareness that was like quicksilver and penetrating. I was flying – out of the heavy almost blind body still lying on the bed, and below me I cold see great radiations coming from places on the surface of the earth. Was it prayers reaching out?

Gradually you will see this new awareness becoming apparent in your daily life.

    Tony

Hi… I had a dream of a black bear and a white wolf. The bear cub seemed to be playing with the somewhat small and timid wolf. But actually the bear was biting him causing great pain and was crying. It was like I was watching a video and felt really sad for the wolf. Then later a huge black mother bear came and killed the white wolf dragging it through a puddle of water to eat it and the bear cub followed . what could this possibly mean?

-Haris 2014-06-24 12:16:46

Greetings Tony, i’ve been going true many changes in my physiological and psychological state since my “awakening” or new consciousness implementing.

After many dreams regarding lion, few days ago i had a dream with wolf in it, i was standing beside a row of trees on meadow, and wolf appeared in front of me, as if he appeared on meadow. He was large, but skinny, stealthy, big teeth, also i could see his eyes, but don’t remember the color, and all of a sudden i found myself climbing a nearby tree, and i knew the wolf will go after me, and as he started somehow climbing the tree, i woke up.
Now i understand, and i can see a part of me that is suppressed from childhood, that contains these wolf “characteristics”, but what are the ways to implement them, i somehow feel i am doing it, but is there any direct conscious way to do it.

Thank you for every article.

    -Tony Crisp 2014-06-26 8:09:28

Haris – The wolf often depicts our feelings or fears, but by meeting the wolf as described in http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson you can change the way you relate to it. Or you can use your imagination by imagining yourself in your dream and meeting the wolf face to face without running away. It doesn’t matter if the wolf attacks you or eats you – it is all ways that dreams express their message.

As an example: “I later did active imagination. I allowed the panther to eat me, and I thus became the panther. Then I, as the panther, noticed a tiger. Feeling enormous temper – anger – hate I leapt up on the tiger to claw and devour it. I really felt strong temper. It kept really appearing to get smaller and smaller. Eventually I saw it as just a toy cuddly tiger. Then its head came off as a pantomime horse does, and I was amazed to see that my cousin Sidney inside it, who I felt had teased me as a child. It was all the anger I felt about being teased by my cousin Sidney”.

So you might find interesting information in the following – http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/secrets-power-dreaming/ and http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/example-15-life-changes/
