Hi Tony
If an animal in a dream is the pet of someone you know, do the attributes of the animal pertain to the other person?

I ask because I dreamt about my friend's dog last night (male friend). In the dream, I am relaxing on an old sofa in my garage (which is full of old stuff that's in storage (my actual garage isn't exactly like this) and I have an old blanket over me with some small objects on my lap (don't know what they were; coins/cards/bits and pieces) when his dog jumps up onto my lap and settles down there; snuggled up happily. I say, 'I was going to sort out these bits first' but give up and fuss the dog.

It does make sense if the dog represents his impact on my life; I suppose I can see that I was living what some might say was a bit of a fusty, cluttered way and was trying to sort through 'my stuff' when he jumped into my life with his not particularly conventionally social approach.

But why the garage? My own garage is used for my car and the things I store there tend to be boxes that might be useful, a bale of straw and my dustbins. I don't have a load of old furniture or the like in there.

Or am I missing something else?

....or could the dog represent that part of me but it's his dog because he was the catalyst??

This is what came to mind while reading your dream....in a garage you are "parked" and not moving in any direction....the old blanket may represent something different as compared to a new blanket....the stuff on the blanket, especially the coin, might represent what you value or different values....dogs respond to yes or no commands...rather than tell the dog no, you invited and enjoyed his affection.

Thanks Christine - That is useful! The parked and the old stuff speaks to my current situation. Your comment about saying yes to the dog is very 'me' with animals.

I was wondering about the dream dictionary interpretation of dogs, too; the only just socialised bit of us. The dog is a bitch and it belongs to a friend, so I wonder whether it relates to him or me in the dream....or both of us!

Reading "he jumped into my life with his not particularly conventional social approach" and reading about the dogs behavior, it may have been more about your friend.

Reading Tony's description of dog in the dream dictionary makes me wonder if you have felt uncomfortable , irrritated or even angry with your friends social skills and how he might approach you or interact with you.  My comment about a dog responding to yes or no commands....I was wondering if you had thought about or want to talk about those feelings with him and/or set boundaries with some of your friends behavior.

Of course, everyone is a mirror for our own behavior....so you have hinted by asking whether the dog is about you or your friend.  Have you crossed others boundaries with some of your behavior?  Sometimes other people need to negotiate and re-negotiate boundaries with us and us with them.

You seem like a very thoughtful person in regards to your relationships.
