Title: Flying Dream
Post by: fish1303 on March 03, 2013, 12:01:58 AM
I dreamt this dream the night before a very important court case. In my dream I was flying. I wasn't just flying I was soaring through the sky. When I looked down below there was a sea of feathers in different shades of brown, the feathers were a living patchwork of different living creatures, birds mainly, but also smaller creatures like mice.  The sea breathed.

My journey then took me to a snowy landscape. I was looking down on what appeared to be a class of school children who were lined up as if to start a race. The start line was a snowy street, icy. In the opposite direction, my ex-husband was racing towards the crowd on children on a snowboard. It seems inevitable that the children would be hurt. Then suddenly the snow and ice melted and the children moved with the wave of water. My ex-husband  'ski-jumped' over the children and the danger passed.

From above I saw myself with my sister. We were in a car. The weather was now summer. We were checking into a boarding house. My sister wanted to get flowers from an orchard like garden nearby, but I recall that all the white flowers were tinged with brown on the rims. When we aborted the task, we tried to park the car, but we had missed our spot, and all the places were occupied and we could not check in to the event we had travelled to.

I then moved to a winter landscape again, and moved from one small shop to the next. At one point I meet a man and then a woman and engage with each of them in sensual embraces.

When I woke up I felt very empowered and assured that I was on the right path. The dream gave me strength for a very difficult day. I wasn't surprised that the outcome was favourable for me.

Fish – The dream reminds me in some ways of the dream reported by J. B. Priestly in Rain Upon Godshill. “Just before I went to America, during the exhausting weeks when I was busy with my Time Plays, I had such a dream, and I think it left a greater impression on my mind than any experience I had ever known before, awake or in dreams, and said more to me about this life than any book I have ever read. The setting of the dream was quite simple, and owed something to the fact that not long before my wife had visited the lighthouse here at St. Catherine’s to do some bird ringing. I dreamt I was standing at the top of a very high tower, alone, looking down upon myriads of birds all flying in one direction; every kind of bird was there, all the birds in the world. It was a noble sight, this vast aerial river of birds. But now in some mysterious fashion the gear was changed, and time speeded up, so that I saw generations of birds, watched them break their shells, flutter into life, mate, weaken, falter and die. Wings grew only to crumble; bodies were sleek, and then, in a flash bled and shrivelled; and death struck everywhere at every second. What was the use of all this blind struggle towards life, this eager trying of wings, this hurried mating, this flight and surge, all this gigantic meaningless effort?

As I stared down, seeming to see every creature’s ignoble little history almost at a glance, I felt sick at heart. It would be better if not one of them, if not one of us, had been born, if the struggle ceased for ever. I stood on my tower, still alone, desperately unhappy. But now the gear was changed again, and the time went faster still, and it was rushing by at such a rate, that the birds could not show any movement, but were like an enormous plain sown with feathers. But along this plain, flickering through the bodies themselves, there now passed a sort of white flame, trembling, dancing, then hurrying on; and as soon as I saw it I knew that this white flame was life itself, the very quintessence of being; and then it came to me, in a rocket burst of ecstasy, that nothing mattered, nothing could ever matter, because nothing else was real but this quivering and hurrying lambency of being. Birds, men and creatures not yet shaped and coloured, all were of no account except so far as this flame of life travelled though them. It left nothing to mourn over behind it; what I had thought was tragedy was mere emptiness or a shadow show; for now all real feeling was caught and purified and danced on ecstatically with the white flame of life. I had never before felt such deep happiness as I knew at the end of my dream of the tower and the birds.”

Of course your dream deals with a more local situation. Being high in the sky gives you a more overall view of your life situation, so you see living creatures as a living breathing sea, suggesting that all life is not separated, but is all a part of the sea of consciousness.

The rest of the dream is clearly a drama or what you would meet, both in your expectations and in reality.

Tony,
I intend to spend more time understanding the skill of interpretation and reflection.
I find the Priestly text very haunting. Thank you for your time.
