Parasites
« on: October 21, 2013, 11:04:55 PM »
I just had an extremely vivid dream in which my body was riddled with very long thin wormlike parasites.
They were crawling out through my gums at first and I had to pull them out like long thin strings, but there were more and more. It became terribly embarrassing as they would appear suddenly when I was talking to people and I’d have to excuse myself and run somewhere to pull them out.
I went to a doctor who told me to take a pill, she said the worms were attracted to metals and which the pill contained, it would draw them in to my stomach before excreting a poison which would destroy them and they would then be broken down and leave my body, but anyone I had come into contact had to test for the worms.

There was one bit where I could hear them literally crawling through the walls of my family home (where I grew up) but in the dream I was a child and my family was a different family. No one else could hear them so I think I could just hear them crawling through my own skin. I had to take the pills for several months during which they kept coming back before finally dying off. The second I woke up I searched for ‘parasite’ dreams online.

I am a natural lucid dreamer and have a lot of bizarre vivid dreams, normally I would have identified something like this as an anxiety dream as i have had lots of dreams about infestations of snakes and spiders but something was different about it… that being that they were actually growing and living inside my body! I have no idea what they represent and will be spending much time trying to figure that out. Any thoughts on that?

Update: I just spoke to my fiancé and he had an equally bizarre dream about flies laying eggs on his face! Weeeird! Something is bothering us both?

DreamCat – The dream mentions some things that maybe you might like to consider. Something embarrassing – what do you find embarrassing about yourself. Is it things you say?

Then there is the piece about hearing them crawling through your skin when you were young and in your family home. This suggests there were attitudes or viewpoints that gradually got into you at that time. I suggest you use something like http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/practical-techniques-for-understanding-your-dreams/#TalkingAs to see of you can pinpoint where it all originated – or use http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/practical-techniques-for-understanding-your-dreams/

That's interesting. Could it be something to do with self body image? Not exactly something embarrassing
But more something to do with shame or self loathing, not being comfortable in ones own skin?
The home I grew up in features in a lot of dreams, usually it seems to represent something negative, the house itself sometimes manifests as a sort of entity filled with bad emotions, like the house itself is full of anger and rage, in those dreams I generally fight against the entity and have to escape it or destroy the entity.
I thought I would point that out because the house isn't anything I haven't dreamt before. Like I said, I've had what I have thought to be anxiety dreams before about snakes appearing and multiplying around me, having to kill them but they keep coming back but this parasite thing felt a lot more physical.
Thanks for the links, I will check them out!

... Other body/image themed dreams I have has include a recurring one about all my teeth going rotten and falling out one by one. I experience a great deal of embarrassment and shame as a result of it happening and am usually trying to get to a dentist but can't ever manage to make an appointment or end up being too far away.

Another one is that I become very obese and again, experience feelings of shame and unhappiness.
Others include hair loss, disfigurement and sudden ageing.

Lastly, if this helps at all ... I grew up with an anorexic mother who became alcoholic to hide the eating disorder and eventually died aged 60 weighing leas than 5.5 stone and having lost her memory 10 years previous due to brain damage caused by lack of nutrition to the brain. As you can imagine, living with this had a huge affect on me which I can see much more clearly now I am older.
