demons? in dreams
« on: January 31, 2015, 10:09:55 PM »
Hi Tony

My question about getting a glimpse of what some may call inner demons in our dreams. I have been given some advice about working with them such as getting eye contact and not wasting energy trying to kill them. Would I be right in thinking these are just aspects of ourselves? I was after either some direction on your site or any direct advice you have on how to work with them. I am grieving my other grandmother now. I pushed myself to be with her as i didnt want her to be alone. I am processing the experience which i didnt realise i would find so difficult to watch everthing she was going through whilst was very difficult for me and it brought alot of my own personal issues. I am now unwell so am finding these inner aspects are coming forth. I am wondering if I am meant to be working with them in a more active way.

Many thanks
Jeni

Joni - I base what I say not upon opinions or belief systems, but what I have experienced when facing demons and the Devil face to face in dreams and waking. Each time I found it was a part of me that I had felt angry about or repressed and so was expressing in an evil way in my own behaviour. Of course we have demons and devils in dreams, because they represent the things inside is leading to mischief or down right awful actions. As an example I repressed my own sexual feelings so badly as a youth I walked about with a knife strapped to me, hoping I would be attacked by somebody so I could stab them. That was a real devil, and it wasn’t something outside of me influencing me.

In the past ages everything was projected outwardly. It worked, in sometimes terrible ways, by burning and slaughtering thousands accused of being evil. See http://www.amersham.org.uk/tour/martyrs.htm

It is why I try to find what is behind such beliefs that I write the way I do.

I believe each difficulty we meet is something that is put before us to deal with. But of course there are ways that work and ways that add to our difficulties. I have tried to write about how to deal with our difficulties in many places on this site, some of them seem hard hitting, such as http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/questions-2/#Victim and others based on a lifetime of struggling to heal myself and evidence such as - http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/lifes-little-secrets/; and a middle of the road way in http://dreamhawk.com/body-and-mind/methods-of-awakening/

But my latest attempt is http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/integration-meeting-oneself/

Hi Tony

Thanks these are all really useful links. And thank you for sharing your experiences. I guess its hard for me to accept sometimes tthat these characters are actually me and the also to try and decipher what it is I am repressing as often we have clever ways of hiding these as well :) but I guess the work has to be done so I keep going :) I really liked your recent post on Facebook about lumpkin it is amazing really to contemplate where we came from in this way. Thanks, Jeni

Jen - I think this was an ancient pattern put in place over centuries, to project not only the evil as a figure outside of us, but also the very best that we are. Have you seen http://dreamhawk.com/inner-life/meetings-with-the-christ/

Hi Tony

These have all been helpful links to read.
Your suggestions and analogies about how to work with dream characters make me feel a bit more confident. I guess with the very 'scary' ones there is this feeling that I may be somehow engulfed by them and they will take over me and make me sick etc which I realise now may be myself re-living my past trauma over and over and not to be underestimated as I have attempted before to work with these aspects and have I believe made myself sick. I like your analogy about the computer screen it helps to see a different perspective to work from and I guess accepting them as part of myself is a huge part of the journey. I like the bull story...its like I have working hard to integrate with different modalities of therapy and dance/movement and I feel all of this stuff to integrate then there is this other part of me that is called to just 'be' simple loving freedom.

The stories about your experiences Christ are really beautiful. I grew up in a Christian culture in which Christ was definitely a man and women were suppressed as the weaker of the two. I am disbelief to now discover in my 30s there in almost all religion this was not so and to read in your article that Christ wasn't 'originally' a man. It feels like all this time I have been living under this illusion and I wonder what the purpose was it makes me angry about all the imbalances it has created in my body and my life. For a very long time I felt I wasn't worthy of connecting Christ. Now I worry that not following one particular religion will also cut me off but I can never decide on one :)

Thanks
Jen

Jen - I personally do not believe that one should follow just one religion. Take everything into you and slowly you will find growing within real insight, and you can love them all - the religions.

As a woman you are a special and beautiful being, and I am not talking about your physical appearance. Remember that in almost every religion a woman is the mother of the divine. Most men to receive the divine into their lives have to develop a woman within them to give birth to the highest. Madonna is worshipped and adored everywhere. but again we have been told it was an historical woman instead of applying to every woman and man. You have to become free of pre-conceptions - a virgin - to become the mother of the divine.

Example: Was in a basement. Brenda/Sonia was giving birth to a Baby, but I was somehow the one who gave birth to it, without a doctor being there. I remember Sonia chewed through the cord. I looked at the baby, it was a lovely boy. Its lower face was covered by a tight caul, but I pulled this off and it began to breathe. It opened its eyes and looked about, fully conscious. Then said something about Jesus, and, “It is gone!”

I asked what had gone, and it replied, “The other ego; where has it gone?”

I said that the other ego still existed within, but was now lost in the newborn one - meaning the cosmic self existed in the newborn individual self. The baby was then taken upstairs, and I felt it was a holy and wonderful baby.

That is a special quality women have to become virginal. In that way you can really contact the truth welling up in you. See http://dreamhawk.com/news/how-i-became-a-virgin/ - http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/mountain-path/ and http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/virgin-birth/

Hi Tony

Thankyou for such inspiring thoughts and dream stories. What I feel could be true now I see in a more concrete way is very possible. Probably for most its a long arduous task to get there and Iam beginning to realise how much of the ego especially these shadow aspects really have to be witnessed and let go of or integrated. But what a lovely feeling it is to have some new and shiny experiences along the way.
