Float Floating

Often appears in dreams where the dreamer is getting close to someone of the opposite sex and some aspect of sexual feeling is present. At times it can be an experience of awareness expanding beyond the usual boundaries of the persons beliefs or of their physical senses. Also it often happens in flying dreams or in lucid dreaming.

Floating away from being practical or grounded, feeling light headed or ‘floaty’. Descent may show coming ‘down to earth’ or a feeling of setback.

On water: Relaxation; opening to power beyond the ego; being indecisive; being carried along by events. To be moved by passing feelings instead of by inner purpose. To be hopeful and buoyant. See: Flying

Earth floating off it: Losing connection with one’s roots of family or culture. This may also be occasionally shown as being on a high building.

Floating away: If you mysteriously and are perhaps white or glowing, it can represent feelings about a dead person who has ‘floated away’ from physical life.

Floating on air: This relate to your mind and mental attitude, idealism or lack of it. It may show how you manage to escape from ‘reality’, or painful things such as shyness, by thinking beautiful thoughts, or creating a mental world inside yourself through such things as reading or meditation. In a positive sense it shows an ability to change your state of mind at will.

Example: My boyfriend and I were at a local beach. I had been there before but he hadn’t. It was at a dam situated just up from the beach. I was floating in the air about ten feet above him, and he was dead. He had drowned. Since I had this dream we have broken-up. I still love him very much. T.H.

Example: ‘We were both shy of each other but as the dance went on I found I could move so well to his steps that we felt like one, it was so effortless that it felt like floating.’ Heather.

Example: After a transition that I don’t remember, I was floating in darkness wondering what was happening to me. I was going through some personal crisis I did not understand. Though I was not particularly aware of my (dreamed) body, I felt myself drift up. Sud-denly I entered the light, which I happily recognized. I knew then that I was again in the presence of God, and that this time I had died. The light was brilliant and filled my vision. There was a point above the level of my eyes from which the light appeared to radiate.  George Gillespie

Idioms: a pine float; float your boat; back teeth are floating

Last night my grandma saw my mom floating upwards in the air wearing a white dress. She also said that my mom’s feet were glowing, something like in gold.

My husband told me this dream he had, more like a nightmare. He was slowly floating down this hallway with his family and a ball slowly floating towards him and then the hallway turns into something like hell. He brings this dream up a lot so I thought I’d ask.

Hi – It would help you to understand your dreams, if you would read – http://dreamhawk.com/news/summing-up/ and also http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/features-found-on-site/ which has so much information in.

Nothing can replace your own ability to understand your dream. With a little effort you can do this by practising what is described in – http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson or http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/getting-at-your-dreams-meaning/

Jess – A nightmare is simply a way of facing the dreamer with emotions he is avoiding dealing with. See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/masters-of-nightmares/

Being with his family represents all the positive and negative traits they passed on to him. When you think about a friend or a person you know, you are only taking in your thoughts, impressions and feelings about them. So many people do not realise that they have an inner person or family equally as powerful as the external people they know. You have taken in millions of bits of memory, lessons learnt, life experiences along with all the feelings or problems met by meeting or living with them, and they change you and make you the person you are. The memories and experience we gather unconsciously change us and are not lost. It is part of you and is symbolised in dreams as a person or event. Such an inner person can appear in dreams because you still carry the memories or impressions of them, and so they influenced what you hold within you.

The hallway is a connecting symbol that gives him entrance into the many sides of his personality. So he meets a ball, which represents his whole nature. That means he is moving beyond his normal awareness, which is his sense impressions, but these make him almost blind and deaf, because our sight only registers about one percent of visible light and our hearing only about one percent of audible sound. The human personality – the You that you call yourself, with a name, is only a tiny vulnerable thing. Many people as their awareness reaches beyond what they feel is their normal self feel scared. Such resistances cause us to create awful dreams and fears as a means of avoiding our own inner world and its wonders. We feel that we will be swallowed up and we will die. It is important to say that when we meet the experience of powerlessness through becoming aware of the hugeness of your Life, which we are usually unaware if, it feels like something alien or attacking and it is a shock.

The hell he dreamed of is his own terrible fears of the unknown. See http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/opening-to-life/

I have a dream that has been bothering me and I cannot figure it out. I was dreaming that I was visiting with my mother-in-law here at my home my husband was asleep in our bed I started smelling earth and hearing a sinister voice saying he’s mine and all of a sudden my husband was floating out the bedroom and I was trying to push him down to the floor and was having difficulty doing this and he was taken out the house and I woke up

Dear Amy – When you dream you can create a reflection of your fears, your hopes, beliefs, intuition, (unconscious) thoughts you have had, feelings etc. on the screen of your sleeping mind.
Your dream expresses the idea of losing your husband while he may not be aware of the possibility of you and him “drifting apart”, because he is sleeping in your dream.
Because “earth” is a symbol for “the mother” – it depicts the soil, the genetic material, and the background from which we have sprung – and because his mother is present in the dream, you could explore if you are aware that his mother has difficulties letting go off her son.

I dreamed that I was floating in my house down the stairs. In real life I share a house with a friend. In my dream i floated to her bedroom and i was asking her for help. i tried to wake her up by trying to touch her. It was difficult to reach her. I was screaming please help me, but she didn’t wake up. I woke up and went back to sleep again. Than again I started dreaming of floating downstairs and again I went to my friend.. (this was the second dream of that night.) Again I tried to reach her and finally I could, but she was irretated and said to me to leave her alone. The door to the garden in her room opened and I saw my cat. I was so pleased and happy to see my cat and took my cat in my arms, I could feel her warm body in the dream. And I woke up. Again I fell asleep and was dreaming that I told my friend of both dreams and that I was floating in the air and asked her for help. She responded that I wasn’t floating but being very iiritating by making stupid dance moves. And she didn’t like me to wake her up. What is the meaning of these three dreams Tony? Thank you for reading.

Few months ago, I dreamed of most of the people in my life for the past eight years or so, family and friends, were all standing in a golden field of tall grass and suddenly I began floating up into the air. I was at least 100 feet up into the air looking down at everyone circling around them all as the looked up at me. In my dream I felt a very unusual high within my body and spirit. When I awoke from my dream, I was on the same high for at least an hour. It was a wonderful sensation that I had never felt before. I feel like I have control or more power over people ever since then.

Candace – An unusual dream. Although I am not sure about the words ‘power’ and ‘control’. That doesn’t feel as if it is about a spiritual high. I say that because usually it feels as if you are in touch with everyone and in an equal position, even though you are much enlarged in your view.

Have you felt in other people power, and maybe that is why you had this lovely dream?
