Twin

There are several possibilities when you dream of a twin or twins.

The first one is that it is part of you that has got split off from your main development. So they can be one of the many polar opposites or splits in our being – the split between waking consciousness and sleep or the unconscious; the split between what we want in our deepest desires, and what we can allow ourselves socially; the split caused by infant trauma; the split between our sense of eternity and the facts of physical mortality; introversion and extroversion; something of self which has got split off, or perhaps even ‘died at birth’, leaving us feeling only half a person; the lack of balance in our being.

Twins can also represent duality, conflict, or two sides of an issue, but also the emergence of something new, something that was denied, that you were born with, but never acknowledged as part of yourself. It can also be your unconscious relationship with another person, such as occurs in a telepathic link. In some cases though it is about separation, and the feelings you have about that, or about the denied or unrealised part of yourself.

But if you were a twin at birth and you twin died it could be a reference to them and your continued link with them. To quote from http://www.twinlesstwins.org/GRIEF/ProfessionalResearch/TwinBereavement.aspx –

“When we lose a twin, it feels for many of us like the literal end of our lives. That is true, in that it is the end of life as we have known it since the moment of our conception. As one twin explained to me: ‘The day my twin died, the lights went out.’ Another twin said to me, ‘After Daphne died, it was as if I couldn’t breathe. I’d never in my life thought about breathing. I just took it for granted that Daphne and my breath were part of being alive.’ When our twin dies, we must begin to breathe again; we must begin again with our lives, starting with what truly feels like the end.”

“Twins begin their identify formation in the womb. Whether fraternal or identical, they receive different stimuli and resources in the womb environment and, therefore, have different experiences that affect their fetal development. But from their cellular origins, they are ushered into the womb in relationship, both to their mother and to each other. And early on, they begin to show distinct, individual, and also interactive patterns of behavior and temperament, which have been observed and documented by researchers with the use of ultra-sonography. These patterns are often repeated after birth.”

But here is another possibility, explained by man who was trying to find himself.

There is a part of me that he has never actually involved in this present life. It has never been expressed. It has never been incarnated. It is almost as if it was not born with me. It has never expressed through the body. It hasn’t made itself real through the body. So it is almost as if it has been a spiritual or invisible twin, a ghost, a spirit guide. It is influencing his life – God, what a story – and yet is so frustrated. Frustrated all the time because it can’t live its life. It is pushing and pushing me toward what it wants to do, yet it is not felt as wholly me. It is not something I have built into my life and trusts, and so I do not live it in the same way as he lives the other areas of my life. When I look at this question though, I see there is a problem which is a part of my nature. It has created this division. When I was born there was a struggle about incarnation. I didn’t want to be born. I didn’t want to face again the experience of the world. So, a very large part of me was cut off from involvement and expression. It was pulled back or held back. It did not directly build the body or build the experience it might have done otherwise. See Meeting My Baby Self

An amazing conception happened after two eggs were fertilised at the same time in the womb. Both Kylie and her partner Remi Horder, pictured below, are of mixed race. Their mothers are both white and their fathers are black. According to the Multiple Births Foundation, baby Kian must have inherited the black genes from both sides of the family, whilst Remee inherited the white ones. The odds against of a mixed race couple having twins of dramatically different colour are a million to one.

A mixed-race British couple has defied the odds — twice — by producing two sets of twins in which one sibling appears to be black and the other white.

I have had dreamt about having twin boys and that some type of tragic outcome has occurred and they are always being taken away from me right when they are born. It’s always in a hospital I’ve never been to. And I’m always alone with doctors/nurses everywhere. I have had these dreams 3 times each following every other day. I don’t know if it has anything to due with me or someone around me. It’s just really awkward because for one I’m only a teenage girl. So I was wondering if someone could help?

    -Anna 2015-04-11 14:03:23

Dear Norma – These dreams are about your natural inner growth; the birth of new powers and abilities.
Because you are a teenage girl, you will be experiencing the changes brought about by puberty. Looking at your dreams can help you understand these changes as you develop from a child into a woman. The physical and emotional issues which are part of adolescence will often emerge in your dreams.
And so in some dreams you may also experience being pregnant, and even having a baby, or as in your case, giving birth to twins. These are very positive signs that you are meeting your physical and emotional changes well.
Giving birth to a baby boy is usually about the principle of maleness entering your life. Maleness is like the sun, it expresses most of its energy outwardly to give life. Whereas the female is like the earth, receiving and nurturing life.
It is he birth or emergence of a new phase of self expression in terms of activity or achievement.
So what would you like to achieve in your life?
And who or what is not meeting these inner changes/goals in a supportive way and/or what conflict is part of your unfolding yourself?
What did you feel when your babies were taken away from you in your dream? Did you try to prevent it from happening in any way?
We are in a passive role when we are an inactive observer in our dream or make no effort to move from discomfort. If this occurs frequently in our dreams, we are probably passive in our waking life also.
Unfolding your womanhood means receiving many new powers and abilities. The power and pleasure of full physical sex – the power of emotional strength and gentleness – the power of creativity – the feeling of being a part of life and the world. Be daring enough to meet any difficulties and fears necessary to claim these powers. Use them – don’t be used by them. They are yours to claim. These may seem like daunting tasks and enormous challenges, but you will find that your dreams will help you find your way if you are able to open to them and allow them to guide you.

I hope this gives you a start to explore the changes in your inner world.

Thank you very much for your help Anna! It actually helped me very much and made me actually think about a couple of things that have been on my mind recently…And it’s kind of scary actually about how accurate your explaination can be. Well I’m actually 17 years old. So I’m not that young anymore I should say. My teenage years are rippening away.
Also in my dreams I would always try to get them back but i could not unless I had the help of apparently the father of the children who was never there which caused the reason for my children to be taken away. It had been a rule that they need both parents in there lives or they would be put up into adoption without a given option, and I was alone the only parent.I would be very depressed because of the loss of my children and It would continue with me helping others care for their children and I would always be looked at as a poor mother.
AGAIN THANK YOU SO MUCH <3

        -Anna 2015-04-13 6:09:10

Dear Norma – It is good to hear from you again and thank you for sharing some more about yourself and your dreams. It is important to remember that you are in a totally different world with different laws, when you enter your dream world. I wonder if you have taken your beliefs from your waking life (partly) with you in this part of your dream: “It had been a rule that they need both parents in their lives or they would be put up into adoption without a given option, and I was alone the only parent”.
The next part of the dream however DOES show that you are capable of taking care of “other” babies: „It would continue with me helping others care for their children and I would always be looked at as a poor mother“.
So the last part of the dream shows that you have what it takes – and/or that you will develop it – to care for your dream babies (It doesn’t matter that perhaps the baby in your dream is the child of another woman, it is still the baby of your dream.) even without a father and that there is no need to see yourself as a poor mother.
Many women dream of giving birth without any man involved. Virgin birth is a normal part of dreaming. It means that you have conceived as a process of Life and so as a process of your natural inner growth.
Being a virgin in this case is about having a mind free from previous ‘conceptions’ and so being open to Life itself fertilising you for a new and precious thing being born.
It is also important to understand, that your dreams can graphically illustrate your beliefs and what influence they have upon your decision making, responses and relationships. The importance lies in the fact that many of your beliefs are unconscious. They were absorbed in childhood and often remain without any conscious evaluation. Dreams also tend to explore where such beliefs lead you, and what the outcome of holding them or letting go of them may be in certain circumstances.
I would like you to continue to read in these two features, for I feel they will help you to continue to explore what has been on your mind recently.

So, I had a dream that I had 2 sets of twins but they were like two months apart. I had my older sister keep my babies for me while I worked at this new job I had just started. I didn’t go visit my babies because I was afraid I would miss them but I did one day and my father was there, I carried one of the twins, a girl and she started crying, so I tried giving her her bottle but she wouldn’t take it but a couple seconds later she stopped crying and just laid there in my arms smiling. I started crying and telling my dad that I wanted to take my babies back and he told me “go ahead my girl, they are your children”. I felt guilty though for taking my children back just in case my older sister had gotten attached to them. So I went to look for her to explain my decision, but she was sleeping. I decided to wait for her to wake up and I checked on my other children. They were sleeping too but I couldn’t find one twin but I figured that she was sleeping beside my older sister in the room. (Both set of twins were girls). After my sister got up, I was afraid to tell her my decision and just when I was about too, she was gone. Its like she knew I wanted my babies back, so she left.
I woke up after that.
By the way, I don’t have any children of my own, and I myself am not a twin.

Every time I’ve dreamed of my son since the time he was born, I always dream he has a twin. I see Liam perfect and healthy and his brother smaller, malnourished and underdeveloped. Its like I forget this other baby exists so I only take care of my actual son. What could this mean?

Hello,
I had a dream about a woman leaving her twin babies at my door with a note asking me to take care of them. I ran out to confront her before she got away to ask her about leaving her babies behind. The woman just handed me court documents appointing me as the guardian of the twins and assuring me that everything has been taking care of legally. I don’t know what my dream can possibly mean. Please Help!

I had a dream one night that my mother looked at me and said that i had a twin, but it died in the womb. So then when i woke up, i asked my mom if i had a twin, or if the doctors mentioned anything to her about possibly carrying another baby besides me. She told me no, that i was the only baby. Im not sure what to think of this.

-Lee 2012-08-21 11:34:27

Okay, so I am not a twin, I dont know twins, none of my children are twins and I am not a gemini.

Last night I had a dream that I had been sick, vomitting whiteness. I had come back from the Dr, The Dr told me that I was sick because I felt torn, like I had to choose between my twin and my partner?? (He and I have been together for 7years, its not a new relationship)

The actual part of going to see the Dr I didnt dream, I know it had happened, but I didnt see it.

A bit later my partner walked into the room wearing a red shirt. he was so happy to see that I was okay that he hugged me really tight,

It was like it was a new relationship, even though we have been together for so long.
