A tsunami can indicate a tremendous and fundamental change in you. Most people now know that tsunamis are caused by massive earth changes under the sea. These changes are part of the natural order, and often show themselves to people in their dreams. So they can be understood as an expression of our personal adaptation to enormous changes. They can wash away most of the beliefs, social structures we have built or held onto as important. Yet if we are not afraid of change and the forces that we are actually involved in, then we can find enormous power and force within us.

Remember that tsunamis are dangerous in waking life, but are the expression of your inner life in dreams. They are not dangerous and need not be avoided or run from while asleep. Meeting a tsunami is saying that some tremendous change has happened deep in you and in the world. Tsunamis are caused by earthquakes on the sea bed. So many people are dreaming about them at the moment because of the enormous change going on around us and within us. So learn to face them without fear and be ready to meet change in your life and in your family.

Example: Dreamt I am looking out of the window and it is a very stormy day, raining heavily. I can see the storm and the rain are the way the world adjusts itself all the time. The weather is the world’s means of self-regulation. Through earthquakes, tornadoes, volcanic eruptions, the earth manages to regulate itself. In that way it deals with the enormous forces playing on it from the cosmos and from within itself. It also has to deal with the influence of the life forms it carries, such as ourselves, pouring out poisonous gases and carbon dioxide.

I have a feeling that occasionally the earth has to make massive adjustments, as when the earth was hit by the huge comet 124 miles in diameter 65 millions of years ago when the dinosaurs died out. Such adjustments are difficult. Some species die out, others that survive, then develop further. What survives flourishes, because it has what it takes to deal with catastrophe and change. It has learned how to survive dark times. So we too need to survive and also be a part of personal earthquakes and meteors entering our lives. See Opening to Life; Tidal wave

I had a dream where me and my family went on vacation to an island, and right when we got comfortable we heard on the news to search for high ground because a tsunami was about to hit.. The werid part is that some of my family watched as the water got sucked back into the ocean.. And the other half panicked. They finally realized that we needed to go and so we ran to the nearest stadium. We climbed up a flight of 9 stairs and then waited for the tsunami to hit. We waited and waited.. The kids and parents in my family started playing around and having fun while I was freaking out.. And then I woke up. So yeah I don’t have any life changing moments in my life at the moment but I want to know what that means.

Last night I dreamt that I was on a stretch of sand in a tourist resort with the sea on both sides. I then noticed a tsunami wave rush towards the shore on my right side and then to my horror on my left side. I was able to jump over both waves like they were a giant skipping rope. After that I ran with all of my power along the flat stretch of beach until I arrived at the top of a hill, I was so surprised at how fast I could run… My dream then went on to me packing my cases at a resort on my to the airport. Strangely enough I was with a friend whom I have not seen for a long time and I felt very intimidated by her and had to impress her. No matter how fast I packed, I could not fill my case in time. Resulting in being left behind, the bus drove off and my friend threw money at me… Which was stolen by a passing man who caught it in the air. I had no money or help to get to the airport. Eventually I received the help of a generous man but I got very frustrated as I had to wait on him to collect other people who were left behind too. I was so angry that I really hated one lady who was trying to be friendly to me..
I have experienced a lot of stress over the past few months. I think that I can make the connections with most of. It still plays a lot on my mind. In my real life I am also very scared of the sea. ?

I constantly dream about tsunamis, a huge wave coming but I manage to escape to a high point and look down on it, I then always dream it again the same night but this time I am in a building overtaken by the tsunami but again I manage to survive. I always wake up after feeling shaken.

    -Tony Crisp 2014-12-29 8:42:34

Mandi – This is an important series of dreams. But you must understand that in dreams everything represents something about you and is not about huge waves trying to engulf you. So please read http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/questions-2/#Summing

The huge waves represent a massive energy in you that is trying to bring about psychological changes in you. But as most people are afraid of change they avoid it, as you do by escaping to high ground. See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/what-we-need-to-remember-about-us-3/#Reaction

So instead of running aware allow the wave to break, feel the fear and emotions and they will pass and you will experience wonder.

Then the throat pain became unbearable. I investigated it and I became aware of doom. If I didn’t fight it, doom would take over. I was weary of fighting it so I let doom take over and sank into the doom and it was then that I found myself at the foot of the great being and total acceptance of my life. Spontaneously, before I knew it I was offering everything as a sacrifice, including past mistakes and cock-ups, and that I had to do this. And then there were the images again of clefts: the earth, female genitals, undersea-ocean crusts opening and something, as yet formless, emerging. This, I suspect, is my creativity in the world. Last night I had a dream about a tsunami. I was in a different country in a rented sea front property. I had my two young boys (both under 2) with me & a child minder. Where I was renting was literally on the sand of the sea front. The waves where absolutely massive. Around 60ft high+. I grabbed my boys and ran inside. The whole house went pitch black and collapsed whilst I had both boys in my arms screaming. I am due to go on holiday in June 2015 on a rented property sea front and it has scared me very much. I know it sounds silly but it’s making me not want to go 🙁

    -Tony Crisp 2014-12-23 10:33:51

Helena – You are a caring mother with two young children. Being female and a mother brings with it an enormously increased anxiety about your babies. Mothers see all manner of things that might be a threat, and that is a way mothers protect their children with more worry than fathers, and I believe that is what such dreams show. Your imagination for such dangers is enormously increased. This is natural in all female mammals with young.

But also please read http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/questions-2/#Summing it explains some of the things we fail to understand about dreams.

I had a dream last night that I was at some beach / waterpark kind of thing . The waves were huge like tsunami size and there were people standing right where the waves curl over . At first I was scared because I knew what it felt like to get stuck under a wave but then I started getting the hang of it and would hold my breath for a long time while the huge wave came over me and I couldn’t stop doing it. My boyfriend tried to get me to leave because he thought it was dangerous but I didn’t want to stop. Then the person that worked there I think it was a lady was like wow you are doing great your holding your breath for so long while the wave goes over you. I wasn’t afraid and I don’t remember what it felt like to have the tsunami crash over me except that I wanted to keep doing it. What do you think that means? I’m about to graduate college and my boyfriend and I are most likely going to break up, which I’m okay with. Could that have anything to do with it?

-Leanda 2014-07-29 10:19:25

I had a tsunami dream. This interpretation is very true. God has blessed me to start a business. That I’m excited about. Just completed my website yesterday and got my new business cards a few weeks ago. I’m so ready and proud of myself.

    -Tony Crisp 2014-08-03 11:47:05

Leanda – Well, I rejoice with you, because you have courage to face the new and deal with it. Let me know what your website is.

I have been enduring a significant change not by choice in my life which I’m trying to move on from. It is understanding that I drempt of a tidal wave. But my question is, in my dream I saw the water coming up to the window and I raced to the stairs to get to the roof of the building I was in.
As I got to an upper floor, I saw the water rising at my feet and I realized that it was higher than the water outside so I started kicking the windows in to let the water out. It worked and the water subsided.
I’m thinking the wave is my anger welling up inside of me feeling overwhelmed and me kicking the windows was my action of letting go? What do you think? Me trudging through the water is me having to struggle with it?

So I’ve had dreams about there Being a Huge Tsunami And I was being rushed into a Safe room. There was tons of glass as walls and Light brown wood. I feared The Tsunami would Break The Glass and kill me. Little did I Know the glass was unbreakable and the tsunami Didn’t Last Long or flood The Streets much. Once the tsunami was over I walked outside and the Sun was shining brighter than ever. The place I was Hidin in was almost Like the Tip of a boat(pointy edge but made of glass and the sides Straight)

I had a dream about a tsunami about two nights ago. I remember taking most of my family but as the waters started to come back to normal my family started appearing. I would find them around boxes or just under boats. I was very happy when I recover my son. I lost a couple of cousins (that I honestly don’t even have contact with) but I was scare that maybe it means something very bad is going to happen.
I have had a lot of changes (personally) I don’t feel the same as I used to and at work I’m just not happy. I have my 1 month notice and just waiting for the change. Don’t know what is to come but I just hope is something good.

i had a dream last night a tsunami was coming at me i have had many dreams like that but this one was different. Not only i controlled the tsunami but I flew over it trying to hang on to the tall trees and something that look like a tall flat bush. I woke up feeling different. Although i have sinned and have been going through some very hard times..I feel like everything will be okay in time

-Bonnie 2013-01-29 3:12:14

Thank you for this dream dictionary. I dreamed about a tsunami last night and it left me recovering for about an hour in the morning. I feel better now reading this. It makes sense. I had the same lesser water/flood dream about a week after a body talk session I participated in and this dream comes about a week after a recent session as well.

-Michelle 2012-12-02 9:59:17

I have had many tsunami dreams lately but last nights one had a twist. This tsunami people were either escaping from or waiting for around Wellington city and Oriental Bay. And when it came in sight, instead of water, it was a wave of pine trees coming across the land. Once it passed through, people either died but didn’t know it because they continued to exist in another dimension–although the same place. Or they entered a real existence. Kind of like the blue/red pill of the matrix. But it was a better, calmer life. Still the fear was terrifying. And wanting to be with a boyfriend when it happened was extremely important. Only to find that actually he wanted to live in the fantasy life that wasn’t real after it passed through. Different to what I wanted. Phew!

-Jess 2012-02-17 1:38:54

I am personally going through some extremely life-changing moments. They are stressing me out to my wits end and at times I feel hopeless. Learning to face the tsunami’s in my dreams would be very difficult for me as I am fearful of the ocean in my conscious life. Something about large bodies of water freaks me out. I’m more of a “bird”, if you will. I love to fly. Love heights. But deep water, I don’t do. Fear of the unknown in the ocean, I don’t do. Any suggestions as to how I could face the tsunami head-on? I wonder what that’s like in a dream, to have a tsunami crash down on you?

    -Tony Crisp 2012-02-17 9:29:32

Jess – If you watch yourself you will notice that whatever you think about you have a feeling reaction to. Obviously it is noticeable in regard to big stretches of water. And dreams are only your feeling reactions put into images and drama. Maybe I am simplifying a little, but it is generally true. And nearly all reactions are habits, and the trick of shifting them is to start a new habit.

Also you need to realise that there is a huge difference between your ‘conscious life’ and your dream life. And to save me writing it all out again, will you please read http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/dream-yoga/ and http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/what-we-need-to-remember-about-dreaming/

So to break a habit we need to practice entering a dream in imagination. Here is something to do that can help you to learn. To understand what is being explained, one must sit without dis¬traction and with closed eyes and imaginatively enter into driving a car. As you imagine this, see yourself driving down a very steep hill, with a steep drop on the left. As the car goes down and down, the bends in the road swing this way and that, and suddenly a bend comes up and the car is going too fast to make it. There is a terrible slope, and the car goes right over the edge.

Now what did you feel or do when the car goes over the edge? Note carefully what happened, then read on.

Now I want you to do the whole thing again. But this time, as the car goes off the edge of the road to smash down the hill, you must try to make it simply fly up into the air gracefully and land safely lower down the road. Try this before reading on.

You may not have been able to control the car once it went over the edge of the road. It either crashed, or you could only slow it down. If you could control it then it shows a high degree of direction of your images and you are changing a habitual reaction. Our fear of crashing is involved, it takes hold of the image and crashes it! In other words, because we cannot master our fear of crashing, it controls the image we have produced. Having realised this, we can then learn to face fear and move the image where we wish, until another fear or desire is involved. And all we have done is to play with images – dreams!

The tremendous meaning and possibilities of that are amazing. Through the manipula¬tion or observance of our own images, we can discover, trace, change our own innermost processes.

That is one of the great wonders behind out dreaming, it displays our fear and wonder, and if we use it we can change our whole reaction to fear. So try it with a tsunami crashing down on you till you can feel all that wonderful energy.
