Shapeshifter or Shape Shifter
The shape shifter is the part of you that has lived through every experience from conception through to where you are at the moment. It doesn’t have a face or even a recognisable shape because it can be any age and in fact anything. What part it plays in your dream is that it says, “Do not get lost in being just one shape, just one age, just being the body, because I am a shape shifter.”
A man who was practising relaxation said that one day while practising he lost all his body awareness, and seemed to fall into a huge space where his ego felt as if it melted into a vast ocean of consciousness. He realised afterwards that he had fallen asleep while maintaining awareness, rather like a deep-sea diver breaking through the surface of the sea and diving into the depths.
Science still cannot define what consciousness is, or what mind is. But such experiences as those mentioned suggest that in some way, when we move beyond the boundaries of our senses, our mind leaps beyond time and space. It is at its core it is a shape shifter, male, female, animal, and in all probability whatever else we can make of it. It is as mysterious and wonderful as life itself. Huge Change Happening – Dimensions of Human Experience
You are a shapeshifter in dreams, and can be any of the characters in your dream. That is how you get their power and wisdom. The femaleness or maleness we usually feel ourselves to be must not be confused with personality. The conscious personality is a very flexible and shape shifting thing. It can be male, female, animals or any thing, a tree or just Life itself – for here in shapeshifting we can get to know our whole range of experience..
But maturing into a real shape-shifter is not done by acting it out by trying to be the opposite sex. Integrating our opposite does not mean dressing up in male or female clothes, or even having an operation. That is further developing an unbalanced self. Integration means having both the female and the male self equally developed. That is wholeness. So, being firmly male, female or homosexul are all unbalanced. It takes courage and hard work to achieve being the being without form. See Life’s Little Secrets – Dimensions of Human Experience – Archetype of the Shapeshifter
Example: My dream starts with myself and couple of other people next to a fire. I notice a rat beside the fire; it tries to scurry off into the darkness. Next moment I am an owl swooping down upon the rat, I catch it in both my claws, swooping back up in the air. At this point I notice the entire dream is in an old building almost like a barn, with thick wooden rafters. I circle the fire just below the rafters; I notice one of the people beside the fire is my brother. I also come to the realisation that I am the owl, which I am very proud of. It is like I am a shape shifter and have been trying to transform into owl form for a long time. I also want to show my brother I have caught the rat, so I land and start to change into human form. I try to show my brother the rat but I cannot look at him. I try to a couple times to look at him but just can’t. I haven’t fully changed yet either, as there are still a few feathers on me. This is when I wake up face down into the pillow. I feel positive about this dream.
Example: I was walking up the several flights of stairs to get to the attic room. I was holding a small dog in my arms – one of those rather flat nosed toy dogs.
When I arrived at the attic I put the dog down. But now the attic was empty and dark. I could feel my hair stand on end and my skin ‘crawling’. Actually I feel it all again as I write this. The feeling arose because there was an unformed dark shape creeping around at the far end of the room. The dog was really afraid and jumped into my arms.
Then the dark creature leapt at me, transforming into a massive mouth with huge fangs and awful demonic face. Immediately I leapt at it in the same way and smashed against its face with my own huge fangs and demon face. This utterly disarmed it because it had felt, in its primitive way, to terrify me. It surprised me too that I could so immediately transform into a monster when necessary.

One time, I became lucid, and became a Pokemon. Lucario to be exact. but, ever since then, I’ve been getting a sensation of a tail and other features, What does it mean?
Hi – I am stopping from answering your posts fully – but will try to give hints; sometimes long ones because I quote from masses I have already put online. Also I need to take time to update the site – dreamhawk.
It would help you to understand your dreams, if you would read – http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/questions-2/#Summing also http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/features-found-on-site/
Nothing can replace your own ability to understand your dream. With a little effort you can do it by practicing what is described in – http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPersonOrThing

While you dream you enter a completely different dimension of experience. What you experience is largely controlled by your imagination, prejudices, convictions, and sometimes by your enormous potential. So in the end you create a dream world with images created from your associations – see http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/association-of-ideas-with-dreams/#Working
Shape shifting shows that you are not trapped in the conviction that you are your body. Try using http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/seed-meditation/ it might open up more possibilities.
Last night I dreamed of a shape shifter that wanted to show me it can be anyone. It showed a bunch of people sitting in those shoe shine chairs in a row of 7-9 and at first I saw the real people. Then in a split second the shape shifter showed me how in an instant it can become all of them at the same time. That’s when I looked at each on individually in surprise. As I turn my back it shows itself and changes from the male it was in its early 40’s to a mischievous female in her early teens and skips away. It showed how OT changed into a ball or small spiraling mass the size of a tennis ball that changed as if in a blink of an eye. The only message it made me feel is that it is always around me no matter how much I try to avoid it and that it will continue to watch me only. It wanted me to know it’s true identity by letting me see the transformation process and seeing it as a mass of energy illuminated in the shape of a ball. As it skipped away it looked over her shoulder out the side of her eyes as a “now you see?” With a mischievous grin. I don’t know what to think. I didn’t feel in danger but it wouldn’t let me ignore it. Why?
Hi – I must take time to upgrade the dream dictionary, so must halt from answering your posts – I started revising the dictionary in 2006, and haven’t neared the end yet. I believe someone else may start giving interpretations.
So, for a while I urge you to read http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/i-am-no-longer-interpreting-dreams/ – It describes ways that can help you. And often it would help too if you looked at http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/questions-2/#Summing

It is you that is the shapeshifter – haven’t you shifted from a squirming sperm finding the wonderful egg, then the fetus that gradually became a creature with gills, and the a human body shape, and onwards.

I dont often recall dreams the next day but this one was so vivid to me and quite scary.
I was lured into an initiation to become a shapeshifter. Not an animal shapeshifter but a human one where the shaoeshifters would become some ridiculously good looking entity to become some kind of agent involved in the harm of others. I was forced into becoming this entity and almost the entire dream is of me trying to fight this internal power. The feelings and vibes from this dream were petrofying it was like the deepest parts of myself had been infilitrated by demons or something. My mind body and spirit were no longer mone and there was nothing i could do. What does this mean?
I had a dream where I was walking besides an adult horse and a carriage when all of a sudden the adult horse turned into a foal laying on its side spinning round and round which made me afraid
then a few minutes later the foal turned into a man chef who asked me to come into the elevator with him but I began to laugh saying didn’t you see the horse turned into a baby horse and then into a man and he wants me to follow him. When I awaken I was still laughing what does that mean.

Wat could tgis mean …??
This was real! Who are you!? In my dream, I don’t remember how it started or where they found me but this group of seemingly normal people were showing me how to manipulate the world around me. I was in a house, not too big. A modest house. The house was filled with different people of all ages and races who knew each other ge well. I remember the guy who brought me there but nothing before. Just a normal 30 year oldish guy with glasses. I can’t describe what we were doing but I would imagine someone or something or picture something coming out of the wall or flying through the air, it would happen. It would fill me with the most immense joy! And I would get giddy with laughter. It was a total game to them. The group felt like people who had stumbled onto this power or were shown themselves and they would get together to have fun? I remember saying that it felt like I was on lsd, so euphoric to which they all didn’t like. Looking back, I think they were so beyond the physical relm that it almost offended their being. Again, this is all hard to describe. It’s as if I was being tested if I was worthy enough to be included in this group. Then a girl there gave me a second chance. Trying to calm down my overwhelming since of joy, we started small with things like getting up from the couch without using any effort or walking through a wall. A couple more people showed up. I guess I was just annoying them lol singing songs and seeing the music. Really amazing feeling like nothing close to anything I have ever experienced. There was an older black man who grabbed me and sang along like he was teasing the new guy. It felt like at this point I was the most drunk person at a party and not being appreciated. The last thing I remember is another man walking in and I drunkingly called him Sean Conery to which he replied, “let me see what I can do.” His face changed into hundred of different people and shapes. He didn’t change into Sean Conery but became bald with an elongated chin. Sort of like Woody Harrilson I thought. That’s when I thought to myself this is how Robin Williams could impersonate so many people. He could channel this power on the surface without giving away his secret. I thought to myself I couldn’t wait to show my friend Chris this and that’s when I woke up wide awake, completely changed. Real life doesn’t feel the same. It was the most surreal feeling I have ever had and unlike any dream I had before.I forgot to mention earlier that in my what I can only describe as drunkenness, I felt this eeriness about them and let me tell you, it was certainly godless,,, I said, “you guys are messing with some powerful stuff” and they all liked at me like I was absolutly correct. I don’t know if any of you out there can help me with this but I want to go back haha. I am pretty well knowledged about dreams and these kind of happening in our would but this was the most amazing experience I have had. I am convinced it was real and that these people are around us. Also I sont know if it has anything to do with it but I fell asleep after a long day of work at 730pm and woke up just before 10pm. Not my usually sleep time. Anything would help! I want to go there again! It was the most real thing that has ever happened to me!
I can’t exactly find an explanation to my dream. You see I had a dream where I was on the beach and by the beach there were stairs that I was close by. I was telling someone about a horse who liked walking by this beach and as if on cue theres a horse walking down the railing by the stairs and he looks at me. He looks at me for a good while and then jumps onto the platform where the stairs lead. I started walking up to him and then he turned into a very tall male. My feelings about him felt as if I could consider him handsome and I also felt as if I knew him or something like that. I ended up running to him burrying my face in his chest as held onto him, like I missed him and hadn’t seen him for a long time. As the dream progressed I noticed that its seemed like I had a good relationship with this being and it seemed a tad romantic. I ended up waking up and being left very confused.

Dear Issaih Ruben – What your dream may reflect is that you meet a part of yourself that is very dear to you; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/integration-meeting-oneself/ and http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/love-of-self/
You explore how to be your own best friend and part of this exploration is about connecting with yourself more intimately; “and it seemed a tad romantic.”
This inner connection and the resulting inner emotional intimacy occurs when you open your heart to your feelings with kindness, compassion and a desire to learn about what your feelings are telling you; “I ended up running to him burying my face in his chest as held onto him, like I missed him and hadn’t seen him for a long time.”
A beautiful dream indeed!
If you feel like it you can explore the symbol of the very tall male by using http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson

I had a dream of 3 shape shifting type girls, a red one, a blue one, and a yellow one, i dont remember the red ones name, but the blue one was bot, the yellow one named Alice. they made me promise not to forget them. WHAT DOSE IT MEAN PLEASE ITS BRINING ME TO TEARS!!!
I had this rare dream where I was like in some sort of activity that required me to sit at the bleachers and in my head I was being told that I should head home as soon as posible because something was going to happen to me and I did as I was told but once I reached my house, house seemed very easy to walk through the some stairs and later when I saw like a black football player from my school but I didn’t know who it was and out of nowhere he shapeshifted into like a black dog but the dog had no ears, no tail and the fur wasn’t fur it was like a seals skin and the animal kept trying to attack me and bite me but I kept throwing him off of the balcony like several times
Hello. I have been reading various articles on dreams with shape shifters etc but have yet to find an answer to me dream. I had a dream abput three years ago around this time June and I had recently found out that I was pregnant with my first child. My husband and I went to stay at a family member’s home while repairs were being made to a house we were renting. I was always tired during my first trimester and I had laid fallen asleep in the guest bedroom. My husband had gone down stairs to watch TV and told me that he heard me shouting for help so he ran upstairs. I didn’t know I was yelling for help but in my dream I was dreaming about sleeping but everything in the room was very dark and only the slightest bit of light showed through the blinds in the room. An all black figure in the shape of a child was staking in the door way. I became frightened and felt my heart start racing. I turned over quickly and closed my eyes. Then I turned back to see if it had gone but it transformed or ahifted into an adult sized black figure. It called over to me and stood at the side of my bed and told me everything was okay and I closed my eyes and said you are not real and then when I opened them again it was shaped like my husband and it got on top of me and told me I would be okay talking as of it were my husband but he loomed different. At the time my husband had not looked like the way the dark entity shaped itself. I was afraid and started screaming no get away from me and the figure changed back into a blacl figure and then I awoke and my husband was there shaking my leg for me to wake up and asking me if I was okay. I still don’t understand this dream well and would love to get some answers….thank you for reading – Leticia
Dear Leticia – The perinatal period (pregnancy, birth and postnatal) in a psychological understanding is a ’normative crisis’ in the female life cycle. Similarly to puberty and midlife crisis, it is also a transitional phase when crisis forms an inherent, natural part of personal development. In Western society these states of psychological crises have a negative connotation as something undesirable, something to avoid.
Native and premodern societies, however, have different rituals to help transitional periods in life, viewing them as a natural, inherent part of personal development and growth whereby society supports the individual; http://dreamhawk.com/pregnancy-childbirth/childbirth-as-initiation-2/
What you meet in your dream is a shadow part of you that you may split off when you were still a child.
The shadow develops in us, according to Jolande Jacobi, because as we grow and absorb our culture, we naturally repress parts of our nature as they are not acceptable to ourselves, our family and/or society.
These grow and mature (from a black figure in the form of a child into an adult size black figure) in just the way our conscious personality does, through experience and further information – except the shadow has a life under the surface – in the darkness – like any socially unacceptable organisation, criminal activity or individual. But often it is the functions or instincts in us that date from prehistory, when present day social and sexual restraints did not have survival value, that make up a large part of the shadow;
http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/the-archetype-of-the-shadow/
You can still explore your shadow part if you feel like it. Try being the “all black figure in the shape of a child”; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson
Because you experience that the man is “shaped like your husband” you can also read http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/archetype-of-the-animus-jungs-view-of-the-male-in-the-female/ to get a better understanding of the aspect that asks to be integrated.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Anna 🙂
I keep dreaming of an evil shape-shifter trying to kill me. I often am the one killing it in most forms such as; tree, human female, human male, a black cat, etc. What doespecially that mean?
what does it mean when i shape shift into animals? because first i was a leopard and i wen’t up a tree and i had complete control over my body like i could move my tail. and then i was a lion and i roared at a crowd but then i was a shark and i swam in some murky water and still had the power of a shark.
Dear Ariana – What it means is that in your dream you are exploring those characteristics and abilities that you associate with these animals.
Climbing a tree as a leopard could symbolise exploring or becoming aware of the directions and facets of your personal growth and being able to have some control over it.
Roaring at a crowd as a lion may symbolise exploring your own power (of communication).
How did the crowd respond? Were the people afraid of your “roaring approach” or did they feel at ease with it?
What does it feel like to swim in some murky water? Do you sometimes “muddy the water”?
To explore and reflect on your different inner animals and their approach you can use “Being the animal”; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson

I’ve been having dreams where I shift into various animal forms, typically while either chasing or running from some unknown assailant. In this last dream, It was more of a mother and child experience, where me and my son were both shifters, and I was trying to train him to shift beyond just 2 or 3 forms. For the most part, I feel positive about the dream, except when In others I am killed while in other forms.
I had a dream where I wasn’t the shapeshifter but he/she was. it was a dog turned wolf, turned lion, turned a motorcycle gang. when I woke up I was scared and had a pounding headache. I feel negative about the dream.
