Demon

Expression of things in life and yourself that you feel threatened by. You may feel an urge is sinful, so you repress it. Your dream then presents it as a demon or devil, not necessarily because it is, but because that’s how you see it. Thus, a person who has terrible feelings of guilt about sexual urges, may represent them as a demon threatening to possess them. Therefore a demon may represent guilt, hatred, feelings of uncleanness, aggressiveness or desire for love, and so on. See: Devil; Satan.

Although many dreams about demons are probably reflecting anxiety feelings and struggles we have with moral issues or sex, sometimes the battle with demons can be about our body fighting a virus or bacterial infection. See: devilunder archetypes.

Example: We were trying to cross the hall diagonally toward the exit, but were constantly attacked or haunted by black demons or ghosts. I was fighting them off, but the struggle went on and on as they came back. Then toward the end I had a large pole and I was smashing them aside shouting, “By the power of God within me, I dismiss you” – or words to that effect.

The dreamer says of this dream, “I felt a slightly sore throat as I became semi awake wondering about the dream. I remembered that yesterday I had a flu injection, and what I arrived at was that the blackness depicted serious illness that I had been fighting off. As I was looking at this the black demons became very real for me and I felt I could not really dismiss them as an influence. I struggled and struggled with this, as I had in the dream, but now semi awake. But gradually I became aware of peace, a solid unmovable peace – a steadiness of consciousness – and the steady peace seemed to dissolve any threat I felt. Also the sore throat went.”

This suggests how we can deeply influence our health and recovery by our attitudes.

Example: I had a weird dream last night. I dreamt that someone I know (an old family friend of my parents) had purchased a new house, which was not yet furnished. But the house is apparently possessed by the Devil. We, some friends and I, have been called into the house to analyze the situation. Each time I speak the word Devil or Satan, the lights of the house switch off automatically on their own.

Well, I decide in consultation with the people and in my thoughts in the dream to perform an exorcism on the house. I chant some prayers for the house to be cleansed. (These are Hindu prayers, and parts of Psalm 99 from the Bible). I find myself standing with some friends in front of a life-size rectangular mirror which has been kept against the wall, facing us upright on the floor. When I stand in front of the mirror, I cast no reflection on it. But my friends do.
Throughout the dream, I was not afraid even one bit of trying to challenge the devil or in my entire thought process.

Here is an interpretation of the dream’s meaning: I think here is the answer: “When I stand in front of the mirror, I cast no reflection on it. But my friends do. So I hear myself say that “The devil is doing this to the mirror cos I am fighting to get rid of him.””

In the best of Hindu and Christian traditions, you are the Devil because at your Core you are everything. In Hindu there is the saying, “You are That” – or “I am That.” THAT being the Divine. In Christian belief we are told, to quote: “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them”.

As an image of God you are everything. And that is why your dream did the little trick of showing you without reflection in the mirror. Once you realise that dreams create an external reality of our inner world, then an aspect of you become exteriorised. As in past ages this was a world that people lived in, they made the devil and God as exterior to themselves instead of realising the truth about themselves. That we are all, in our core, the divine.

Having watched a person meet the devil in their dream exploration, what they arrived at is very helpful in understanding your dream devil. She saw that her lack of self esteem, her self doubts and depression were like an open door that allowed destructive feelings and fears to enter. These attitudes or feelings may have been inherited from ones recent or ancestral family. She saw these as portrayed as the Devil.

The words demons or evil spirits in the past really meant, ‘invisible but powerful influences that can make you ill in mind or body’. They are what today would be called viruses, bacteria, or trauma we that we are unconscious of.

Bileta – Whether we remember or not, each time we sleep we create on apparently real world out of our remembered impressions, habits and emotions. Yet, because a dream is our own creation, no part of it, no emotion contained in it, no flight of fancy portrayed, is other than oneself.

So we can become victims of our own impressions and fears. People are often terrified or deeply worried by their dreams; they run in fear from an animal chasing them, or are paralysed by a demon attacking them, yet they are only images that we create in our sleep or witness on a screen. To run from them is to run from your own feeling of fear. That might be the right thing to do on the street if you see an attacker approaching you, but it is not good to become a victim of your fears, worries, speculations or even hopes.

The devil or demon in our dreams usually is an image that depicts the parts of our own urges and emotions we have repressed or do not feel in control of. The angers, fears or urges may even feel to us as if they are strong enough to control us, so we represent them as an external force pushing us to some sort of evil. In each of us there is the potential for creativity or destruction.

Her dream probably is produced by a fear of being unloved and so she dreams of you being taken away. Or also it can be produced by being deserted or unloved by parents in childhood – and of course other reasons. It leads one to be suspicious of anyone they come close to emotionally.

Example: Mostly we are daunted and terrified, not only of the most glorious in us, but also of all those ancient terrors – the dark, threatening people, the unknown, any influence that threatens to change us, pain, deep emotions or ghostly fantasies of demons, death and dragons. So as I went deeper into myself all these rushed at me in what felt like an attempt to turn me back from realising or experiencing something.
When I simply saw them as spectral images meant to frighten one, rather like a horror film that, although with awful images, is simply a play of light on a screen, I broke through into recognising something I had never previously seen so clearly.
This takes courage, as those centres of other dimensional contact are guarded, if that is the right word, by instinctive fears, and terrors that one’s ego, or psyche, will be torn apart. This is of course what is happening, as the usual boundaries of ‘self’ are being melted, and a wider awareness emerging. It is this that confronts one with a sense of death, because a form of death or dying is being experienced. One – one’s present view of the world – needs to die to allow a winder awareness.
You can help her by standing firm in your care and support for her. This questions her fears. Tel her that the demons she dreams of are image depiction her own fears, and so do not scare you.

Geh – Whether we remember or not, each time we sleep we create on apparently real world out of our remembered impressions, habits, fears and emotions. Yet, because a dream is our own creation, no part of it, no emotion contained in it, no flight of fancy portrayed, is other than oneself. Even when we dream vividly of another person, such as the man in our life, the dream personality is made up of our own impressions, hopes and feelings.

Also, whenever we dream its images are not like real life, because a dream is nothing like outer life where things could hurt you, but is an image like on a cinema screen that even if a gun is pointed at you and fired it can do no damage – except if you run in fear; so all the things that scare you are simply your own fears projected onto the screen of your sleeping mind.

So your dream is a creation from your own fears and imagination, probably brought about by being reared by parent or teachers, priests who themselves were haunted by fears of, or seeing and believing the awful films made about demons and devils.

True there are demons and devils, but they are all inside us, created by huge fears, being told we are all sinners and so are doomed, despite the bible clearly saying we are created in the image of God.

Example: When I arrived at the attic I put the dog down. But now the attic was empty and dark. I could feel my hair stand on end and my skin ‘crawling’. Actually I feel it all again as I write this. The feeling arose because there was an unformed dark shape creeping around at the far end of the room. The dog was really afraid and came into my arms.

Then the dark creature leapt at me, transforming into a massive mouth with huge fangs and awful demonic face. Immediately I leapt at it in the same way and smashed against its face with my own huge fangs. This utterly disarmed it because it had felt, in its primitive way, to terrify me. It surprised me too that I could so immediately transform into a monster when necessary.

Then I approached the dark form, back in its original condition, trying to find out what it was and why I had met it in that way. Gradually I experienced its situation. It had originally been a human being, but had gradually lost its humanness and become this slinking darkness. I was slowly able to help it realise that it could once more take the path to become human if it wanted to. Then it asked me how that could be done. I told it that first of all it had to come out of this dark and empty place to mix with people. The human environment created a different surrounding and influence that would penetrate it and help it to change. It also asked me how I knew about its condition and how I could transform into its own monstrous form. I told it I had once experienced that condition, and that’s how I knew it was possible to come out of it.

I had a dream I was visiting my aunts house. It was a normal time nothing bad was happening. When it was time to sleep everyone was in their beds. I was sleeping in the living room. All of a sudden my cousin is screaming for help. So I run upstairs and there’s a floating vase and it then thrown towards her but she ducks and it misses. I go to get her up and we run out of her room. Her mom then comes out of her room towards us and is thrown to the wall. My boy cousin tries to get close to us and can. We quickly try to figure out a plan. We start to head downstairs and there is the demon. With red pupils and white around. Looked like a black dress and the head was very odd, all white with lumps. It was just staring at us. Didn’t get closer. My boy cousin heads downstairs to try to distract it, my girl cousin and I make it to the house’s front door. I’m able to get outside, but she is not. She’s stuck inside. As she’s banging the glass door she demon starts to shriek. I go back inside and my boy cousin has a cross in his hand and is praying. We go to him and do the same. After five minutes the demon vanishes. The next day it was serenity. We think everything is back to normal until. Until my girl cousin is dragged off her bed down to the living room and into the basement. We heard her screaming but no one could get to her, not even myself. She then comes back up possessed. She started throwing and breaking things. She throws a a portrait of the family towards me and I loose consciousness. When I regain consciousness she is back to normal, and I looked at her confused. Later on still in the dream she starts to tell me that this has happened multiple times to her and she doesn’t know what to do. I wake up worried for her well being.

I had a dream I was with my family and we were having fun on vacation , all of a sudden I come to this restaurant and order food … Then suddenly im reappeared in another place and the devil was there and I was fighting with him , I kept screaming God please help me God please help please help me defeat the devil and other prayers aswell.. Then he kept choking me and everything … All of a sudden I defeated him by suffocating him and then he turned into a doll and these people we’re here to see the doll and put it in their house or this gallery they had about people who’ve seen him … I woke up after and my throat was sore like i’ve been choked … And you mentioned infection well i have one and i recently had a friend over who has a respitory infection aswell ? So i was wondering what does my dream mean ?

    -Tony Crisp 2016-09-09 9:21:43

Zulma – In the long past, everything that had a powerful influence on a person was called either spirits of the devil. So mental illness, physical illness and bad events were seen as being caused by evil spirits or the devil. Now we understand that illness can be caused by bacteria or viruses, or even stress.

But the idea of the devil has been so pressed into our awareness, and heightened by crazy horror films, and so our dream creator uses the images when something invisible but threatening attacks us. An invisible force attacked your throat. But to see for yourself what it was all about try being the devil by using http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson

-Chloe Vergese 2016-09-06 0:24:03

I’ve had this dream like 6 times already but just different variations of the demons. So basically it starts off in a building that I live in and me. It’ll be during the haunting hours of the night and me and my aunt had left the house, my grandfather (all these people are still alive) caught us leaving so he joins in as well. The building I live in has two lifts so one demon will come first. Then the next demon will always come but it will always look like one of us ( kind of liken a shapeshifter) The last demon will then come down the lift again but this time round, one lift will pretend to send a demon while the other lift will have the actual demon so it’s kind of like a distraction. Each of us will always take one demon each and we’ll fight physically with them. At the end, we will always beat them and the next different set of demons will appear next time if I dream this again. What does this dream mean and why does it keep happening over and over again?

    -Tony Crisp 2016-09-06 12:27:30

Chloe – Why does it keep happening over and over again? It is because you are in conflict with yourself and haven’t dealt with it.

My findings are that you cannot be hurt in your dreams. You cannot drown, you can’t die in a dream, no tiger or another animal can harm you. Of course you can feel feelings of dying, or being hurt, or drowning, but they are all images you create because you feel afraid and you haven’t faced up to your fears. So whenever we dream its images are not like real life, because a dream is nothing like outer life where things could hurt you, but is an image like on a cinema screen that even if a gun is pointed at you and fired it can do no damage – except if you run in fear; so all the things that scare you are simply your own fears projected onto the screen of your sleeping mind.

It seems to me you have been raised in a family with a fear of demons. And fear creates its own images in our dreams.

Example: Facing my adversary and becoming lucid in the dream, I allowed the adversary to kill me with a sword, knowing all the while that absolutely no harm could come from this experience. Fully lucid and looking at my dream attacker I said: “You can plunge the sword through me if you wish,” whereupon my adversary did just that. Then I drew the sword out of my dream body and very lovingly and wisely gave it back to the adversary and said: “Thank you.”

Dreams are a magical mirror in which your innermost hopes, longings, fears/terrors and genius are made real. They are made real as external environments, people, animals and relationships. So the person you dreamt about is not them, but is a dream image made out of your feelings fears, hopes and memories.

You can meet such fears by consciously imagining meeting one of your demons, and asking it what it is doing in your dream scaring you again and again, and what is it asking of you.

Example: I walked toward it and stretched out my hand. It was a tan colour with short fur and gave a feeling of being okay to approach, so I touched it to stroke. This was okay and I was thinking there was no problem when the creature leapt at my throat in a flash of movement and ripped my throat out. I was in command of the imagery in that I simply formed another body. The creature ripped out my throat again and dived into my body to eat it. There was nothing to be frightened of, as the creature was only attacking my dream image of myself. As I wasn’t identified with this, it couldn’t hurt me. That was the end of the dream.

What does it mean where i had a scrambled dream, first i was at the birthday party and there was this demonish girl with a devilish smile following me around. then i was at home and i was at the side of my mom bed and there is a scramble of blankets next to me, and arm reaches out of the blankets and grabs me so i tell my mom and show her my two hands and on being grabbed by the little girls hand. i tell my mom to help and she continues to lay in bed but now she looks concerned. It then let goes of me and grabs my mom by the legs and drags her under the blankets and posses her then my moms eyes rolled back into her head and it was like when people have an exorcism except she was getting possessed, i was trying so hard to yell help and stuff but i could then i awoke in my dark room i couldn’t breath my heartbeat was so fast. and i could move so i had to scream my brothers name so he would wake up to come help me… do you guys know what this could be?

I just had a dream today, I saw a spaceship crashing and falling on London and destroying it,I was near the accident,A huge explosion happend and flames bursted out of the explosion towards me,I tried running but I couldn’t beat the speed of the flames..so it hit me and I thought I’d die,But I didn’t. I don’t exactly know what happened here but A demon was talking to me..Supposedly I am his master..then I started elevating and sat on some sort of a chair above the ground..I was a master of some sort, there was a girl sitting next to me that I know is my sister for some reason that is also sitting on.a chair like mine..and infront of me down on the ground a huge crowd of people standing still, I ordered the demon to burn one of them and he did…I strangely didn’t feel a thing ..the demon said the word “perhaps” b4 he did it,and then I looked at my “sister” and Told the demon to burn her also…and he did and he also said something but I forgot what it is…I woke up after that.
PS : london isnt my city and I have a sis irl but she doesnt look like the one in the dream.

Why would I have such a dream?

    -Tony Crisp 2016-08-29 8:11:05

Eyad – Why would I have such a dream?

Dreams only make sense when you realise that they use associations that we make unconsciously all the time. When I was working on the new site design, the designer said to me, “What’s the point of dreams – they don’t mean anything do they”. I noticed he had a T-shirt on that looked as if had been used quite a lot. So I said to him, “What about that T-shirt? If you dreamt of it what would you think it meant?”

He said it wouldn’t mean anything. So then I asked him where he had got it and what memories were attached to it. He said he had got it in America, but when pressed to explain his memories associated with it he refused to answer, looking embarrassed.

The space ship exploding shows an enormous and dramatic change occurring or about the occur to you. It comes from outer space, suggesting that it is a new part of your potential you were not previously aware of – much like the massive change that occurs when we explode in growth from childhood to teenage.

If you have read the entry explosion – http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/explosion/ – you will have read the woman’s dream where she was shattered by an explosion and died, but says, “I had kept awareness through the whole situation, so there was part of me – an awareness – which did not or had not died. I was left wondering – is that what happens after death, and can one communicate with others in that state?”

The woman was entering menopause and great changes occurred in herself and her life. A break-up began to occur with her husband as well as external changes in work. So the death suggests the end of the life she knew up till then. The awareness that did not die shows HC experiencing her central self, her core self, that does not die and is not the external personality or body that constantly changes and can die – in other words undergo massive change.

So that is what you are facing. The demon is you own negative thoughts or feelings that can lead to actions – as you did by destroying your dream sister and another person.

The chair shows you occupying another level of awareness above the normal mass of people. You were a master because of your higher view, but you used it to destroy and not integrate or help. Everything we do or think has consequences. What they are you have to wait and see. But there is a clue because you had no feelings, suggesting you have not developed your feeling nature. See http://dreamhawk.com/inner-life/inner-world/#MakesInner

I had a dream that I was back at my old home, but instead my family living there with me it was my Grandma who was. At first I was lying in bed and felt a present of a demon attacking me. Then it was gone. An old friend shows up and he crawled through the bedroom window. We lied there falling asleep. Then I saw the lights being turned on and told him to get in the closet. Grandma comes in with this young female. Like some kind of nurse? I guess. Anyways, we got caught and he left of course. Then next thing I know, some kind of wood block thing was wedged in the door where I couldn’t go out of the hallway. There are 2 bedrooms that are in a small hallway and we have a door. The door divided the two bedrooms and a bathroom and the hallway from the dining and front area. Anyways, the block thing was moved and in my dream. I realized we weren’t home alone. So I ran to my grandmas room, which apparently her room in my dream was my parents old room in life. Then a girl who has demon black eyes attached me. I was fighting her off while screaming for my grandma. Grandma never opened the door and I wasnt able to say the right way to get rid of the demon. Then I woke up.

-Catherine 2016-08-17 10:49:15

I woke up today around 6:00am and was playing on my phone a bit, and I guess I managed to fall back asleep. In my dream, I was still on my phone and taking a picture on Snapchat. However, the picture was in black and white for some reason and a little fuzzy, as if it was taken in nightvision. I was laying on my left side, facing my wall and I noticed in the picture, something was crouching down behind me. It had a giant head, and it’s skin was tarnished looking, like that of a monster in horror films. Once it realized I noticed it in the picture, I felt pressure on my body as if it was crouching over me and it spoke to me saying “you thought I wasn’t real? You thought I was just in your dreams?” And it then continued to laugh. I kept telling myself it wasn’t real, but couldn’t get my body to turn over. I woke up finally and was a little spooked by then, but fell back asleep quickly. Again, I felt pressure on my body and heard it laughing, but couldn’t turn over. I was even able to open my eyes while sleeping to try and get myself to wake up, but even when I did that, I could still feel the pressure on me and hear it’s laugh. Eventually, I was able to wake up, and now I’m here, writing about it. I’ve never had a dream like this, and would appreciate if someone from the website could give me an idea of what it was all about.

so i dreamed that i saw all the classic disney princesses. a very ugly ariel appeared and ursula got mad at her. she then told me ariel’s story. ariel’s the daughter of two demons. i am very confused. can someone explain?

-Kaitlynn 2016-07-31 0:16:35

I had a dream last night. It was different from the other dreams I’ve had. Yes I’ve had similar dreams but this one was just..I can’t really explain in words.
So I dreamt of this woman and she was standing in front of me. We were talking and than she sang, her voice was so beautiful. It turned out she was quite famous but the thing is as she sang to me it felt like she was trying to trick me into doing something. That’s when she told me..if I wanted to be famous and have a voice like hers and she said she knows I do that I should give my soul. I know she knew I started to panic and her face started changing..her eyes black as coal, her teeth just sharp and vicious as if she was going to eat me. As she was turning into what she really looked like I could feel her sucking my soul. I could have barely push away from her and all I did was pray for help and that I don’t want to live the type of life she is.

    -Anna - Tony's Assistant 2016-08-02 11:21:41

Dear Kaitlynn – What your dream may reflect is that you will have to do some inner work to reach your beautiful voice.
In your dream “this woman” may reflect this potential in you that you still have to develop.
This beautiful voice is a symbol for expressing yourself in an authentic way; All of you!
Perhaps the woman is also a symbol for becoming a famous singer, but keep in mind that you can express the beautiful voice of your essence in all sorts of creative ways.
    See also http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/song-singing/
Giving or baring your soul I also see as being willing to learn to express all of yourself and your fear for this is expressed in the woman changing; feeling as if she is going to eat you and the feeling of her sucking your soul.
Evil is ‘live’ spelt backwards. In dreams the sense or presence of evil is often depicting those things you have so repressed that they are no longer properly alive and healthy. Repression has turned them back upon you making them an internal evil. They therefore need meeting and being brought into proper recognition and expression.
So your decision “that I don’t want to live the type of life she is” can be realised by practicing http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/opening-to-life/.
Whatever name you give to that enormous potential underlying your existence, whether you call it Life, Chaos, God, The Mystery, it is the source of your physical existence and perhaps you feel more comfortable with the idea of “Opening to God”?
You do not need to do that in the presence of others; doing it by yourself may provide you with a welcome equilibrium for all the time spend connecting with others; online or in real life.

I had a dream that i was a demon

-Benjamin Brewer 2016-07-22 1:49:23

I had a dream of a demon who presented himself as a normal human to me. He invited me into a house that was normal also….I knew he was bullshitting and when he noticed I was able to look through him….the paint peeled off the wall….almost like it was burning…then the house started to break down. His skin peeled off his face and eyes changed…he then appeared as a demon sitting in a chair. The roof came off and there were many moons in the sky also multiple shooting stars. I dont know what it meant.

Dear Benjamin – Your dream reflects the incredible power of change that occurs when you stop fooling yourself and look through the façade you have put on.
Paint peeling off the wall is like revealing the real condition of part of your inner world that was hidden before and the process of release may feel painful.
The house breaking down and the skin peeling off the face and eyes changing I see all as symbols for inner change (of self,) which leads to your change of perception; “he then appeared as a demon sitting in a chair.”

This whole process enables you to look at your inner demon without judging it, which then leads to your opening up to Life; http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/the-chakras-part-7/
A beautiful and very promising dream!!
Perhaps you feel like exploring your dream; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson
Please also remember that a dream is something that comes from a deep part of you; it is something that is working upwards toward being conscious. As such it often, like a seed, takes time to break through to the surface, and then it has to grow.
The dream images are attempts to communicate something that has probably never been thought about or even been consciously thought about, so has never been put into common conscious thinking before.
It is a communication from the depths, from beyond thought, and realising its content into your waking life may take a lot of inner work and linear time. (Dreams come from a state beyond time and space)
The source of the dream, which is a process of Life, is intelligent in its own way, and will take part in any attempt to communicate.
So exploring your dreams by entering into their imagery and attempting to understand them will be a two way process; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/processing-dreams/

I just woke up to a dream of a bad ghost/demon trying to come through the bedroom door and attack my kids, my mom, my sister, family friends and myself. We held the door shut and could feel the ghost/demon pushing on the door to get in. We sat there and prayed and after awhile it would stop then it would happen again. So we would prayer louder….We could hear screaming and crying coming from the ghost and it sounded like there were 30-50 of them. After awhile we became tired of holding the door shut and the ghost started coming through the bottom of the door and finally broke in. They attacked us all and were biting us (like zombies) and scratching us. We were trying to fight them off and started to beat them in the head and eventually we “killed” them all or got them to stop/disappear long enough to escape the house but we could still feel the stronger presence of the demon pulling us back in and not letting us open the front door to escape the house but with all my strength I got everyone outside as soon as I tried to get out it grabbed me and pulled me back. My mom had to grab my legs and flight with this demon to get me out. Finally she got me outside and we just stood in the front yard crying, holding each other. And we knew we could never go back in the house. We never saw the demon but you could feel it. It wanted us dead and it was like these ghost were his soldiers coming for us. The ghost we’re crawling on the ground and they had long black hair and big eyes and sharp teeth. I woke up with my heart beating fast and sweating and feeling like someone or something was watching me. Please can you help me understand what this might mean. I’m scared.
