Carried Carry Carrying

General carrying: Using your ability to deal with something. It can also point to what you are ‘carrying’ in life – such as carrying a grudge or taking responsibility or your child or elderly person. It might also show you supporting or giving your strength to someone or something. This usually suggests you posses, or are carrying something within yourself. What it is depends very much on what you are carrying.

In some dreams carrying something might simply refer to your life situation, as when we use the phrase, ‘I carried on.’

We also carry hopes, attitudes, a grudge, a plan in ones mind, a love for someone. All the time we carry about with us the sum total of all we think and feel – the burden of being who we are, so what you are carrying in the dream is important to understand. See Inner World

Being carried: A desire to drop responsibility or a return to childhood in a relationship. I could also show you being in a dependent relationship or lacking any personal motivation.

Some things and the influence from other people motivate us and so we are carried by them over rough patches, or influences, often subtle, carry us forward.

Example: Because he was my favourite singer, I got excited when I saw him and went to hug him. He gladly accepted my hug with much enthusiasm and we began talking. This was nice because he was very humble and it felt like we somehow knew each other and had this connection. Later in the dream, He ended up carrying me around the house for some reason.

If it is an object like a chair or carpet that we are carried on or by, or an animal, try to define what the object suggests or the animal represents.

Carrying someone: Treating someone else, or some part of yourself, as a child or invalid; feeling you are ‘carrying the load’ in life, work or a relationship; over zealous as depicted by idiom ‘carrying things too far’.

One can of course be ‘carrying’ a baby as when one is pregnant. And some things we carry are tasks that we willingly undertake and are part of our life-work – what we are working at in our character and learning.

Carry usually suggests you posses, or are carrying something within yourself. What it is depends very much on what you are carrying.

Example: My father died when I was 3 – 1973. I recently dreamt I was carrying my father’s coffin at his funeral. On the way to the church I dropped the coffin and the lid fell off exposing his face at the advanced stage of decomposition. I replaced the lid so as not to grieve my mother further. But I followed my father’s spirit into the gaps of the coffin. Rosina.

Here Rosina is still carrying powerful feelings about her father, and they are not healthy.

We are all carried every day of our existence. We seldom acknowledge it, but we are carried by Life. We take it for granted, yet we ought to be grateful for such a living presence. The You that you call yourself, with a name, is only a tiny thing. It is moved and tossed around by all manner of drives, ambitions, emotions, fears, temptations, worries, love and desire with its pains and hopes; it is something we take so seriously and get carried away into awful situations; we take many sorts of pain killers to deal with ourselves. Things such as alcohol, coffee, medical drugs and street drugs, are all used as a sort of crutch, and yet we are still prone to break down, as can be seen by the number of people who need antidepressants or are totally lost in themselves. See Avoid Being Victims

If it is a positive living thing: Can you acknowledge that you have this energy or feeling, and can use it to your own benefit?

If it is a dead thing: The example above shows how we can carry a lifeless thing around in our memory, or our feelings. If such a thing appears in your dream, ask yourself where in your body or feelings are you carrying this deadness. Why do you need to hold on to something that is not living and growing? Can you now let go of it?

If it is an object: Is this a useful object? Does it suggest a burden or a possibility. Is it useful in some way? You need to ask yourself what it is you are carrying around. Is it a waste of energy, such as old memories that are not productive? If so can you let go of it? If it is a useful thing, what talent or skill do you have that you may not be using?

Idioms: Carried away; carry a torch; carry it off; carry on; carry the can.

Useful Questions and Hints:

What feelings are so much a part of me that I constantly carry them around? (If this is difficult to answer ask someone who knows you well.)

If looked at as an analogy, what does the thing being carried suggest?

What can I learn about myself from this?

What does what I am carrying suggest – bucket and spade suggest holiday  with children for instance?

If I am being carried – who or what is carrying me?

What can I learn about myself from this?

I keep on having dreams where it feels like I’ve already been there before. All the people around me act like close friends or family. Everytime I have these dreams I feel comfortable, almost not wanting to leave the dream. I looked online and a lot of websites said you lost most memory of your dream right after you wake up. For some reason I can remember really good detail of the dreams for weeks or months. Are they trying to tell me something important?

My boyfriend just sent me this text, describing his dream… what can it mean? You were in the hospital for something bc you had to be. He were lying on your side curled up and you were calling someone. You were calling me over to pick you up so I did and I carried you but I hurt you bc I touch a part where they gave you a shot and I was like ohh nooo I’m sorry ! But then I got. Veered hold of you and took you to your room. Then I looked in the mirror and I see 2 piercing on my face then I was like when did I get this?! But then I look closer and I have them all over my face! I had gauges on my cheeks, ears, piercingly on my noses and in between my eyes and my face hurt!! And then I asked my mom what happened? When did I get all this??? And so she told me and stuff and its just blurry from there

Hi Tony,

I dreamt I was carrying an oblong medium brown wood effect melamine table. I was in my childhood home – and in real life we had a lovely cream colored version with square metal legs.

For some reason I kept moving the table into nooks an crannies that it was too large or the wrong shape for. Also, at one point, I hid it behind my back, like I was really protective and covetous about it. Finally I went into my kitchen that I have now, and situated by the radiator wall was a Habitat white melamine and beechwood folding table by it. I remember thinking why on earth is THAT table there, because it was from a flat I shared with my ex-partner about 17 years back. I felt glad, worried, confused and a tad freaked out. Plus I was carrying the brown one stashed behind my back.

I had a dream about being carried away by masked people whilst they where trying to stab me and cut parts off my body, what does this all mean it is very concerning

I had a dream where I was walking in a field, and I saw walking bushes. These bushes were coming from all different directions and they were all going to a bush meeting in the forest. I stopped and stared and a bush picked me up to go to the meeting. While they were walking, after a little bit, they turned into humans. And they had this pen. They kept clicking the pen, and every time they did, ink would come out and the ink bubble would fly. And we were playing with ink bubbles trying to not let it hit the ground. Also, the guy that was creating the ink bubbles, he said, “this one is for Sam”
What could this mean?

Hello

I had a dream where i was in a house with people in it; some i knew, some i didn’t. My best friend was there, but she felt.different like something is in her, she was mean, selfish and bossy (not how she is in reality). I was trying please her, then she fell asleep. I started stacking chairs and carrying them to them to the second floor. I’d swiftly go back down the stairs skipping steps to get more. What could it mean?

    -Tony Crisp 2016-11-16 11:15:35

Hi – I am sorry I cannot keep up with number of dreams sent at the moment. But I have described a way that you can get to the meaning of your dream. It only takes a little time to work at knowing the meaning of your dream.

So please click on the link and find your dreams meaning – http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/getting-at-your-dreams-meaning/ or http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson

But the people you dream about or not actual people but when you think about a friend or a person you meet, you are only taking in your thoughts, impressions and feelings about them. So many people do not realise that they have an inner person equally as powerful as the external person you know. You have taken in millions of bits of memory, lessons learnt, life experiences along with all the feelings or problems met by meeting or living with them, and they are what makes you the person you are. The memories and experience we gather unconsciously change us and are not lost. It is part of you and is symbolised in dreams as a person or event. Such an inner person can appear in dreams because you still carry the memories or impressions of them, and so they influenced what you hold within you.

I had a dream that I turned to look in the mirror, only to find that it was waist height & I couldn’t see my face. Confused & a little panicked mostly because it didn’t feel as though I was sitting or standing on anything, I looked down to find that I was carrying myself. There was another identical me with the exact same clothes on & I was sitting on my ‘shoulder’.

    -Anna - Tony's Assistant 2016-08-10 11:38:57

Dear Angie – What you may have become aware of in a moment of self-reflection is another self that is part of your inner world.
We all carry different selves and it may serve a purpose to explore what is frightening about not being able to see your face; lose your head; not having identified this self yet etc.; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson

You could also explore if and how you conduct this (emotional?) self on your shoulder by using “Being the person” for the “you” that is carrying “you”.
Is it a heavy load to carry?
Do you feel good carrying “it”?

last night i saw, i was carring a beautiful girl in my arms and walking on still water. And don’t even know her saying,” I want spend my whole life with u like this”.I also kiss on her cheek.

    -Anna - Tony's Assistant 2016-05-18 15:44:19

Dear Adarsh – Your dream may reflect your awareness of your inner female and your perception that uniting with her and using her abilities enables you to keep calm inside.
Physically a man is predominantly male, but also has nipples and produces some female hormones. Psychologically, we may only express part of our potential in everyday life. In a man, the more feeling and caring side may be given less expression. Apart from this some functions, such as intuition and unconscious creativity may also be held in latency. These secondary or latent characteristics are depicted by the female in male dreams; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/archetype-of-the-anima-jungs-view-of-the-female-in-the-male/
It would be interesting to explore if you dare to “go under with her” and take a deeper look into your inner life and if you feel okay too while walking on stormy water; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/active-imagination-and-dreams/

In my dream I was carrying a backpack and it was very heavy and in the dream was man that ask me something I can’t remember and that I had to walk long ways and then my dream change now I was crying

    -Anna - Tony's Assistant 2016-04-18 14:24:31

Dear Benjamin Hernandez – What I see in your dream is that it reflects how you may be carrying problems that you have not dealt with and how that may be holding you back.
Crying is the release of sorrow, grief, guilt, misery, loss, memories that have been held back, knowingly or unknowingly, during the day or even over years.

-Anne 2016-02-14 15:43:47

Hello,

In my dream i was at some sort of gathering with friends and people i didn’t know. The setting was very homey and informal but i felt such a warmth. After this i just remember one of my professorstalking to me and lifting me up and carrying me in her arms. She walked around the room a couple times liie this, everyone saw her carrying me and I was not even surprised in my dream it felt very natural. She was very nice and friendly and seemed to be having fun while carrying me and so did i!

She is my favourite professor at my university and I’m taking my second calss with her this semester. Last semester i took her class and was very astonished by her ability to convey information so well and did really, really well in her exams ans papers, she always said it was excellent or that it was the best in class. This is a new subject that i have never taken before, only with her and my interest keeps growing. Although I appreciate her very much as a professor i also absolutely love the subject matter itself and enjoy reading about it very much. It’a a real luxury to get to study this!

Last week we had an exam with her and i read soooo much, may have overstudied a bit because there was no way i could have written down everything i knew in 45 minutes and got into a little bit of a rush. Afterwardsi wasn’t sure if my grade would be so excellent this time, because i was rushing and couldn’t structure my answers well, although all the information was on the sheet. Furthermore, while taking the exam, our professor was not there because of a conflict. Instead, she sent her daughter, an ongoing academic, to supervise us taking the exam. She had told me about her daughter before and told me i should meet her and i was very excited to meet her, we talk for a bit after the exam and it was great.

How can it be interpreted that she was carrying me? Could it mean she is supportive of me and what I do? She has told me many times that she enjoys having me as a student which is always nice to hear and she seems very positive about me in general. How does being carried fit into this situation? After i woke up, and during my dream, i felt very good about it and thought it was silly but funny.

    -Anna - Tony's Assistant 2016-02-17 18:07:38

Dear Anne – Thank you for sharing so much about what you feel could have triggered your dream. What I feel is the clue about the feeling of “being carried” is the awareness that it feels good and is silly and funny.
Because your dream starts with “I felt such a warmth”, it could be that the rest of the dream shows how you “get carried (away)” by this emotion and so how you maybe become overly excited or involved sometimes and take things too far; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson
Because of your dream it might also serve a purpose to explore what really fuels your passion; “Although I appreciate her very much as a professor I also absolutely love the subject matter itself and enjoy reading about it very much. It’s a real luxury to get to study this!”
To assist you in this process it might be helpful to explore (unconscious?) decisions like “and I read soooo much, may have overstudied a bit” and thoughts like “Afterwards I wasn’t sure if my grade would be so excellent this time.”
You can explore the role this professor has for you in your inner world; is she like a mother to your Inner Child who gives you what you cannot give yourself (yet); http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/child/
Explorations are not about whether your decisions are “right or wrong”, but merely about making them with as much awareness as possible.
    Anna 🙂

-Sara 2015-12-10 12:44:43

Hello! I recently had this dream where I had to carry this guy I know in college. Apparently, he got really drunk in this party I was also in, and for some reason he had this weird illness wherein he was dehydrated or something and getting really weak and thin. For some reason someone called it a unique type of diabetes?? (It’s kind of a weird dream) So this was triggered because he got really drunk (for some reason). I was with some friends (i think they’re also my college friends) and we found him in this dying state.
This is where I decided to carry him. In the dream itself I felt it unnecessary as I knew that there was someone more capable of carrying him (Im really small), but I just felt compelled to do it. I also felt this weird sense of courage and a feeling of protectiveness over him, though we’re not really close in real life. I remember the dream suddenly putting me in this mall, and I was with my friends rather frantically looking for a clinic (idk why again). I distinctly remember the guy’s weight in my arms, it was heavy but not unbearable. I remember running slow because of the weight; my friends were just keeping pace with me. I also remember he was getting dangerously thin at a fast rate. We were rushing. In the end, we decided to just drive to a nearby hospital.
At one point I covered him in my jacket probably because he was getting cold (I think it was night at the time). I also had someone else carry him to the hospital/doctor so he could get there sooner. I just followed, and when I got there he was ridiculously thin, and I mean ridiculous. He was basically skin and bones (his head was the most prominent in his body). The doctor said he would make it. Strangely enough I felt like he would make it even before we got him to the doctor. That’s basically it. sorry for the wall of text. I woke up and what baffled me the most is why I dreamed about that particular guy. Why him? Why not someone else I knew. Or someone else I’m much closer with. :/

Dear Sara – A dream is like a seed and so it might take time and some inner work to move beyond feeling baffled by your dream towards a deeper understanding of what your dream is expressing; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/what-we-need-to-remember-about-us-3/#Seed
    and
    http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/dream-yoga/
The way I see your dream is that a part of you – your inner male – is dying because of an illness that is unique. In this context I would see it as something that is unique to you and so you are the person who knows how to deal with it in the best way possible. That is why you “carry him”.
Because of your perseverance along the way (it is a process), your sense of courage and your feeling of protectiveness over this part of yourself, you manage to find a place – a state of mind – where “he” can find healing.
    See also http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/archetype-of-the-animus-jungs-view-of-the-male-in-the-female/
Why this guy? I do not know.
You might be able to understand by exploring what you associate with him; what your (unconscious) thoughts and feelings are about him; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/person-and-individuals/
    and
    http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson
Dreams can have many functions and one of them is that they are an expression of what is happening in the physical body. Some doctors consider dreams to show signs of illness long before they are evident in other ways; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/function-of-dreaming/
Are you in any way familiar with the symptoms and signs of diabetes?
I ask because the man in your dream shows all the symptoms of this disease; excessive thirst – “he got really drunk (for some reason)” – frequent urination – “he was dehydrated” – weight loss – “he was getting really thin” – and lack of energy – “he was getting really weak”.
A “unique” type of diabetes could refer to the type 1.5, which shows both symptoms of type 1 and 2.
I do not mean to say that you might be developing or have developed diabetes; I merely mean to inform you, so that you can explore if your dream is showing you something that is happening in your inner world and/or something that is happening in your body.
    Anna 🙂

HeLLo there!
I have been having non stop dreams of my ex boyfriend crying to me. He always seems to be confessing a bunch of feelings, hurts and pains about us and his veteran life. In One dream we were all at a party & he was so drunk and called me to his table he was sitting alone at saying I need you, I’m sorry…starting praising me..we kissed etc. I had to carry him on my back to his car while I am wedges shoes. People aLL around us were tripping out that we’re talking again but we didn’t care we were going to fix our problems and head home.

    -Anna 2015-03-02 9:57:24

    🙂 Hello Pisces

The dream shows that you are using your inner recources – or ability – to digest – releasing a lot of sorrow – what is left in you from the relationship with your ex boyfriend.

    See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/digest/
    and
    http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/boyfriend-ex/
As far as the people tripping out are concerned, I wonder if you have mixed up your waking life with your dream life?
I reckon that perhaps in your waking life you would have to face other people judging your choice to join with him again?
In your inner life you know it is a loving choice to integrate the helpful parts you received and to let go of those parts that no longer serve you.
    See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/ex/

    Anna 🙂

I had a dream where I said I love you to a woman I have tried to date. She started crying and I had to carry her to her car. Then I drove home alone in a car that wasn’t mine and the road looked like a storm rolled through. What does all this mean

-Maddie A. M. 2013-08-08 15:55:13

I had a dream last night that I was in a hotel-like place. My father was with me and people were trying to find us. I wasn’t concerned about myself, I just wanted to rescue my dad. So to trick the people that were following us we went into an elevator and kept going up and down between the floors the lower level floors. Then once we tricked them we went down the stair case to the ground floor. We had to pass through a locker room. At first we were going to go through the men’s, but I decided that it would not be a good idea seeing the all the people trying to get us were male. In almost every dream I have this ability to fly and go through windows without breaking them; so after we went through the women’s locker room we got to the entrance. I picked up my dad and I flew through the window with him (it was bright and beautiful outside) and the people still followed us, but eventually the people chasing us lost interest.

-Tina 2012-04-14 15:23:49

In the dream I had I was packing items put a fish in the luggage and was carrying it with me. I was lifting the luggage but it was to heavy to keep carrying it. I had no choice but to put it down, I didn t want to carry it any longer I had had enough.

    -Tony Crisp 2012-04-15 10:01:12

Tina – I am a little unclear whether you meant you put the whole luggage down or just the fish.

If it is the whole luggage it suggests that you have carried too much of the feelings, attitudes or duties – or even religious ideas or beliefs that have become too heavy to carry. The fish could relate to those – the religious or philosophy of life that is more of a burden than a help in life. What a relief to put them down and live as Life in you asks.

    Tony
