Disabled

Being disabled in your dream, or meeting, or dealing with a disabled person or child, usually refers in some way to an aspect of yourself that has not developed its full potential. For instance your activities or endeavours may have been held back by feelings of inferiority or lack of confidence, or even raising your children, which is a huge responsibility. Those feelings are usually due to something that has hurt your feelings or self-esteem in some way, or is about life circumstances so is shown as a disability. See: cripple.

It can be caused by trauma in your early years, such as premature birth; things done that smashed your young self.

Example: I’m carrying two heavy bags home from school. A teacher doesn’t help me. I am at home, now a mother with children moaning for their tea. I can’t go to bed unless I complete my housework. I’m on a sinking ship like Titanic, jump overboard, divers helping others avoid me. I cry out for help, but they ignore me. I’m a disabled single parent with 2 teenage children.

I am hearing your cry for help Elizabeth. The sinking ship tells me you are near to emotional collapse. However, at a distance I am wondering if – a) From your schooldays you felt nobody supported you so you get into a victim role. b) You consistently take on too much and push yourself too hard. c) You have asked for help but have found no response.  Do any of these apply?

The two bags are your children, who you have no help to carry. The dreams describe the man in your life as apparently strong, but in fact doing nothing to help. What can you do though? Certainly stop pushing yourself so hard – or learn to relax the feeling of constant pressure. Make a long term plan to gain help from your children, to share the load. As a mother you are an important person and no mother should live in a society that make a mother feel such stress. So be like a tigress and stand up for you rights.

There is also a feeling of isolation in your dream, despite you being among people. It is important for you to recognise this and wonder how it has come about.

Human beings has evolved through huge periods of time to have self awareness, a truly amazing thing, but for many it is a state of constant pain and suffering leading many to commit suicide. But Dr. Maurice Bucke, who himself lived in constant physical pain tells of how him and many others were able to evolve to a new state in which their suicidal pains no longer were active in them. He called it Cosmic Consciousness, but it has been known for ages under different names such as Enlightenment and Liberation. Those who evolved to this level of awareness often say, “That we could all be experiencing this, if only we could stop being typical suffering humans. Regardless of what hell one might fall into an enlightened one is an ordinary person who acts like a true adult.” All the major faiths recognise this and so have left records of how to reach this evolution of self.

Kathy – Nearly always when people dream about someone they know or a strange new person or situation they automatically believe the dream is about that person, situation, or animal. But when we think of our friend or partner our thoughts are not them – just our thoughts and feelings about them.

So the disabled child is about a memory you have of your own childhood, and the hurts you suffered that held back your normal growth. As you said, you will have to give as much love to that disabled child, by doing so you will heal the past hurt.

Example: As I enter into the dream I connect with the child. She says she has got up from her ‘bed of pain’. I wonder what that means – The Bed of Pain. What does it mean – to me personally whose dream this is – that she was a malformed and tortured child? Without hesitation I begin to feel my connection with another person. I experience that being connected with another person is a fundamental part of life and procreation. If something threatens that connection, then life itself is threatened – the reason being, I am in the womb! To lose my connection threatens my life. But my life is threatened. I am expelled from the womb before my body and soul are mature enough or ready to be separated, ready enough to undertake life disconnected from the placenta. I was actually born two months premature. As I experience this I feel incredibly vulnerable. Each sound, whether a bird singing or a car going by, is a possible threat to my existence. I had been physically and psychically attached to my mother. Now the bond is broken. See http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/opening-to-life/

Hi I had a dream that I’m having a very hard time with its meaning
It started out on a nice day I was with my boyfriend we were standing on a overpass bridge with a chain link fence we were talking I remember I told him if we need to find highway 60 to meet there then he was gone and I had this urgency to get back to my car and that somebody had forcefully taken him far away from me it was so far to my car i was running I could see my car in a parking lot when I got in there was a younger handicap girl with an issue about her leg that she couldn’t walk and she had to be laying in a special box in my car it felt as I knew she was traveling with me but I didn’t know her when I got in the car she hand signaled me when I looked up front there was a woman opening the zipper of my purse I instantly began to fight her and reached in my counsel and grabbed my knife opened it and stabbed her in the neck and that was the end of the dream I woke up
If you could help me figure this one out I’d greatly appreciate it
Thank you for your time

Hi – I am stopping from answering your posts fully – but will try to give hints; sometimes long ones because I quote from masses I have already put online. Also I need to take time to update the site – dreamhawk.

It depends what your feelings about the professor and you sister are. See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/characters-or-people-in-dreams/

Lacking that, my best guess is that in some way you have been thinking about who or what your children are – or that the dream is showing you a completely different view than your normal idea that “these are my children”. Dreams have a much wider view than your waking consciousness has. Things other than karma concern the soul in its selection of a body: coming situations in history, former associations with the parents, the incarnation, at about the same time, of souls it wishes to be with and with whom it has problems to work out. In some cases the parents are the whole cause of a soul’s return-the child will be devoted to them and remain close to them until their death. In other cases the parents are used as a means to an end-the child will leave home early and be about its business.

In other words they are not just your children, but beings who are independent and wanted to share life with you. The mentally ill child – what does your sister mean to you – may mean that whatever influence the professor left within you has caused some false responses to life,

Hey, I’m really into reading up on what my dreams are actually signaling to me, but I’ve had two dreams that I’m really stumped on.

Note that I have just been dumped by my boyfriend of two years around three weeks ago. We always talked about the future and four days before he dumped me, he had still said how he is 100% sure he wants to marry me. I’m still miss him greatly but I know he’s no good for me. He says the only reason he left me is because his father wants to arrange his marriage.

Dreams:
1. Two nights ago, I dreamed about taking care of this mentally challenged man (still can talk but slurs and staggers really badly, and I had to feed him). He looked around my age. We were at a completely strange house, and I was feeding him and talking to him when I could feel his attraction to me. I am typically the sweet and nice type so I ignored that feeling and continued to service him. He mentions how sad he is to not have a family and I told him I will be his family, and he said he needs to be adopted by someone before he can have a family, and I responded with how I will ask my parents, but if they say no, we are still in each other’s hearts. We then went into “my room” (again, no recongnition of the room) and sat around my work desk. It was dark, and I had no intentions of turning on the light apparently. I then started pouring milk into my cup (I am lactose intolerant in real life) and talked to him about how I’m thirsty, but the more I drank, the more thirsty I became. I kept pouring milk and drinking it but every time I poured, the milk spilt out of the cup again and again. That’s when I woke up.

2. Just last night, I had a dream about my ex proposing to me. We were both smiling and very happy, and he was on one knee, with no box but just a really plain but beautiful looking ring. I didn’t say yes or no, didn’t cry, just smiled really happily and gave him my hand, and he placed the ring on my ring finger. The background is of a night scape with nothing but a couple lit buildings, a lake reflecting that, and infinite stars in the sky.

I don’t know if these two dreams are linked to each other, nor do I know what they mean? If you could help me, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I just woke up, feeling empty & missing the stranger I have just dreamt about. I fell in love with a stranger in a wheel chair, I woke up 4 or 5 times in the night and still went back into dream to meet the same wheelchair guy again.i am left wondering if he is real. In reality i am married not completely happy I guess, i am worried about buying a house with my real life husband, I posabley got married too early, so my father could give me away, I lost my father 6 months ago & suffering greatly due to it. a reply would be greatly appreciated.

I find your work fascinating!! I recently had a dream about my father ( we do not speak or have any sort of relationship). I ran into him in a mall he had become crippled wearing arm braced. He then handed me a pile of 50 dollar bills saying he knew I could use it then left. It struck me as very odd and can’t figure out what it means

    -Tony Crisp 2016-10-16 13:46:14

Amber – Your difficulty in understanding your dream lies in the fact that you forget that everything in a dream is actually about something else.

For instance – Many people do not realise that they have an inner father equally as powerful as an external father. You have taken in millions of bits of memory, lessons learnt, life experiences along with all the feelings or problems met by loving and living with your father, and they are what makes you the person you are. This is true even if your father was never there for you – you still have all the memories of him not being there for you filed under ‘Father’. The memories and experience we gather unconsciously change us and are not lost. It is part of you and is symbolised in dreams as a person or event. Such an inner father can appear in dreams because you are still deeply influenced by what you hold within you.

I believe the dream is actually saying that you have ‘crippled’ your inner father through not being able to speak to him – even if it is just the inner father you speak to. It is important to try because it/he has a great deal to offer you.

Your inner father is very powerful part of you. It holds a mass of information about yourself, because as mammals we take in an enormous amount of non verbal communication, just as the fox or horse learn without any spoken words. See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/the-conjuring-trick/

I have dealt with many people who had wonderful sharing with their parent even though there was no physical parent present. Try it, for your dream promises a great reward.

It is in fact like a hidden room in the place you live. Here is an example of what can be found.

Example: I am at my original flat but come across an extra room or sometimes part to the flat no one knows about. I am always surprised when I find it, but inside myself I know of its existence. It is as though it belonged to me although I am unaware of ever having used it. It is usually a bedroom but sometimes a lounge with a bed in it. It’s obviously lived in. The bed is unmade and it’s a little untidy but comfortable. I feel very familiar with it but recognise none of the contents as mine.

The dreamer explored this dream and discovered it was artistic abilities left to her from her father’s influence, which she had never realised she had. The interesting thing is that she knew her mother had told he that her father was a no good person, and so she had never ever given her father any thought or sympathy because he had, according to her mother, walked out on them.

Please help me. I was dreaming that I was at work. I went to the back room and my one and only truly living daughter was there. She was a great deal older… and apparently I had a younger child at this point who was still an infant. I went to pick him up and he was physically disabled. I was shocked, but I picked him up straight away anyway. I turned to see my sister (who is my live in babysitter) spank my daughter. I slapped my sister in the face. I was outraged. (I would never hit her / she would never hit my children) We all settled down. Then my dream turned into a family reunion. I felt almost lost and my children were no longer in my arms. I had no idea where they were. And then I woke up.

Hi, my name is Christine. i had a dream last night. It felt so real, so i feel that i had to get it out my chest. i am hoping to get some answer to my dream, because it was really frustrating.

I had a dream about my mother. My mother is now 47 years old, and my dad is the same. I dreamt that my mother was hidden a pregnancy from me for a long time. And all of the sudden i came in her room, and i saw that she was carrying a baby (her baby) i took a closer look on the baby boy and saw that he was disabled. After that i saw my mother crying, and it seems like she was really frustrated. so i therefor comforted her, and told her that it was okay to feel like that. And after that my dreamed ended. I could see the baby´s face so clearly, his eyes were so big, and he stared me right into my eyes, and i felt very attached by that. So can someone please help me figure out this dream, because i felt so weird when i woke up this morning…

i appreciate any types of answers!

Dear Christine – It is important to understand that all the figures in your dream reflect something that has been or is part of your inner world.
Your inner mother may reflect your approach towards developing a new part of your potential.
Many people do not realise that they have an inner mother equally as powerful as an external mother. You have taken in millions of bit of memory, lessons learnt, life experiences along with all the feelings or problems met by loving and living with your mother, and they are a major influence in your early life.
The memories and experience we gather unconsciously change us and are not lost. It is part of you and is symbolised in dreams as a person or event. Such an inner mother can appear in dreams because you are still deeply influenced by what you hold within you.
When you avoid awareness – hiding the pregnancy – you are not able to respond to this development inside you and so you cannot develop your full potential; “I took a closer look on the baby boy and saw that he was disabled.”
Allowing your thoughts and feelings is a wonderful step as it shows that you have stopped hiding; “After that I saw my mother crying, and it seems like she was really frustrated, so I therefore comforted her, and told her that it was okay to feel like that.”

Thanks for all of your help over the years. I have been reading your work since I discovered the powerful messages in our dreams in my early teens. Now with a teen of my own, I’m able to help her with her own dream questions and reference your ‘Dream Dictionary’ book still on my shelf for further insight. Sometimes, it’s a little tricky to decipher my own complexities.
My personal disabled/crippled dream has an old lady in a wheelchair at a party on a patio. It was dusk and while others were socializing, she was alone and I was the only one that noticed. She looked sad and I go to her to find out what’s wrong. As I get closer, I noticed she’s a bilateral above the knee amputee and very skinny. She ignores me as she began to panic looking up at the dark skies with a storm approaching. The party continues uninterrupted as the hailstorm drops on us, and I grab the lady and carry her toward the back door under the outside shelter. I sit her down on the back steps, she’s still afraid and cries “We’re not safe yet, we still can get hurt! Oh no!”, as hail stones the size of golf and baseballs start breaking trough the awning. I tell her she’s going to be OK, I’m with her, I won’t let her get hurt. She finally looks at me for the first time with both trust and worry in her eyes, and gave and acknowledging nod. I carry her inside to an already prepared blanketed area on the floor in the den. It looked to have been prepped for a crawling baby with infant toys and pillows. I sit her down and as she struggles to get herself comfortable due to chronic hip pain, I notice she has some kind of breasts deformities as well. She finally gets comfortable against the pillows and says “Thank you. Now I can rest”. I decide to stay with her. For some reason I preferred to keep her company than go back to the party outside. I have a feeling she represents an aspect of myself I need to pay more attention to. Maybe getting away from social distractions to address my emotional health, but I’m not sure of specifics. Your opinion is greatly appreciated.

    -Tony Crisp 2016-08-15 11:10:34

Tonya – My dream book often seems to have an independent life of its own, so it is seldom that I get to meet/communicate with the friends my book makes. So it is good to meet you.

But since writing that book I have learned a great deal more, and I have put it into this site, so the dictionary and the encylopedia are very much richer. The size of the book you have was 150,000 words. Today the site dictionary is 1,714,433 words, and still growing.

But about your dream – the beginning shows you with two sides to you, a side that socialises easily and another aspect that sometimes announces itself; a side of you that feels somewhat lacking in ability to easily face people and leads maybe to a sense of being alone or not noticed.

I see the second aspect of you as a gift probably from your mother. An older woman, and especially one with great difficulties, often is a representation of your inner mother. Dreams tend to deal with your inner life. To give you an idea what a massive influence that is please see http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/mother-mum-ma/#InnerMother and http://dreamhawk.com/inner-life/inner-world/#MakesInner

Amputation often indicates a desire to withdraw from the demands of life, or at least to feel inadequate in being able to express easily in moving about in life experience. Such feelings from parents or ancestors are often a background to your life is not a foreground. See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/the-conjuring-trick/

You must have come to a point where you are realising your inner mother more fully to dream of it. So that suggests a growth in your sensitivity and ability to meet it. This is shown in the fact that your attention was drawn to the invalided woman and you decided to care for her.

The hailstones suggest that it was not, or will not be easy to face and deal with the influences left in you – nevertheless you make it look easy by carrying her and gaining her trust. To me that shows how much inner work you have done; to the point where she says, “Thank you. Now I can rest”.

By doing that you have already changed something in yourself by being the woman you are. Yes, she does represent an aspect of you needing you to pay more attention to. Maybe getting away from social distractions to address my emotional health? Not necessarily, because we can live a busy outward life and still give intense concentration on your really important inner life.

I feel there are things you can do to achieve this. If you and your daughter can work together you could us the technique described in http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/peer-dream-group/ It is a very powerful approach. It helps one to get behind the scenes of dreams and find direct insight into their meaning.

Though she can’t run but in my dream she runs so fast and can just high things that I do. Last night when she chased me on my dream I had to fly. What is the meaning of this dreams.

-liz 2015-12-26 19:08:13

Hi, i was hoping you could help with a dream interpretation. Last night i dreamt my deceased Uncle was surfing a large wave happily and with ease while in a wheelchair and puffing on a cigarette. Ive recently just come through a courtcase that settled in a way i wasnt very happy about, the other party has already not fulfiiled in full the terms of the agreement and my big question going to bed last night is do i let this go and walk away with what i have or do i call them out and take it further now.

    -Anna - Tony's Assistant 2015-12-30 17:46:51

Dear Liz – An interesting answer you got from your unconscious mind.
The way I see your dream – and please explore it yourself as well http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/dream-yoga/ and http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson – is that you explore another way how to approach this situation.
We often tend to believe that the only option we have is choosing between what I like to call “two impossibilities” when there is (an inner) a conflict.
In your dream you seem to be exploring a 3rd alternative to feel happy again, which alternative arises from another level than where you saw the only two choices available.
I do not know if the road is still open to choose for a different approach in your waking life, as far as this conflict is concerned; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_3rd_Alternative
Your dream suggests that in the inner world of your thoughts and feelings there is another approach available by seeing that it is not about what has happened to you that makes you feel unhappy, it is the manner in which you feel and/or respond to this event.
Smoking a cigarette is a symbol for changing the way you feel or respond in meeting this challenge in your life.
Although it may be a difficult period for you, the challenge you are facing is the very means that can help you grow and inspire you to develop more of your potential.
So the answer in your dream might not be so much about WHAT will I do now and merely about HOW will I do it.
Perhaps you feel like “Being the Uncle” to explore “his” different mindset?

i saw a child who is 12, 13 years old and mentally retarted came with his father and asked him that he wanna study with me not with his selected teacher

-lisa 2015-04-29 5:55:46

Hej Tony. I firstly want to say that I am really grateful for your dream interpretations and secondly would be overly very thankful if you could help me with this one because i have been crying since i dreamt it, and it has been very disturbing.

It starts with me going up with my school counselor to a meeting but she has to go somewhere and there are unbelivably many doors i have to pass after i try to reach the room she describes.

In the middle of it all i see her waiting for me and suddenly I come running back to her telling her i am sorry I am late for our meeting but i had to go help someone (it appears I helped a criminal who was being chased by other criminals, but for some reason I come back wearing the blue latex gloves we usually wear at dental school and they are so clean you would wonder how i had been helping someone in such a situation).

Suddenly the guy comes again telling me he needs me to hide him but I try to close one of the many doors so i can get rid of him however he gets in begging me.

I keep going further and further up the floors and doors with him trying to hide him in the all white area but then we reach the second last door, with the room furthest up leading to a another room.

However this room looks very old with everything being in dark wood, and the room doesnt look clean like the rest of the area because of the dark color while the rest is a white dental school, yet in this room there is so much warm light almost like your above the sky, like the sunset .

In the room i see a disabled girl about 5 years sitting alone starring out the window. She seems to have a hard time walking and cant move her hands. Her face is blurry. I turn to the guy and tell him i will do anything he wants if he just helps me with getting the girl outside here and down so we can take her somewhere.

I seem to want to help her couse she is all alone in a total empty room with only 4 walls and a door. We start to take her down the stairs and i feel we are doing the right thing and it looks like she wants the help, but suddenly the further down we get the harder she is breathing like she cant get oxygen, and then she tells us to take her back up.

In that moment i know its not her disease speaking but more like couse she is used to being in that horrible/weird place. I tell the guy to keep taking her down but when he sees how she has become he takes her up again and i don’t complain anymore knowing this girl is a lost case. When we get up she can not really walk anymore and it looks like we have made her situation worse, but when we lie her down there are suddenly some toys surrounding her and she has become my brother instead
My little brother who is a few years older than her.

I start asking him “So you dont like going away from this room” and he answer “No but i wanted to go earn some money because i have nothing up here” I tell him almost crying that i am going to give him as much money as he wants and anything else, and I will come up here everyday to be with him. He says to me that when he is going to die he will give it all back to me but I tell him that he has to give it to his children and family.

His answer breaks my heart since he tells me he will never have a family because who would want to get married with him. I tell him of couse he is going to have a family, and he begins saying almost like an old man “Funny how my friend anders is going to have one and i won’t”. I start getting tears and just go over to that criminal guy telling him what he said and I can see that guy too feels sorry about it all.

After this dream i woke up crying, especially because it became my brother in the last part. I don’t really understand my feelings regarding that room, because at one hand I felt sort of relieved he would be protected there, yet on the other hand i felt sorry that someone had to sit with just 4 walls and spend all their life like that.

Please tony, please I know this is long but please help me and tell me what all this means. I really feel very affected and disturbed by this.

Best
lisa

    -Anna 2015-04-29 19:12:05

Dear Lisa – I am Tony’s assistant and I would like to help you understand what is happening in your dream; it is however a very long dream, in which you are confronted with many parts of yourself, and so I suggest we start with only the first part of the dream.
In your dream you meet the many parts of yourself; of your own psyche and so of your own inner world. The group of criminals chasing the other criminal I see as a symbol of two of the great forces that push at the human soul or psyche; firstly, social pressure, such as the moral norm; and secondly, biological pressures such as the sex drive.
So in other words, there may be a conflict in you between wanting to unfold and explore your sexuality and the moral codes which you have taken into you, which do not allow you to do so. I am not sure if you recognize that at all (yet) because in the dream you are wearing gloves, when you return from helping this criminal. Wearing gloves is a symbol of “avoiding dirty business”, so avoiding really dealing with this conflict in you. You did dare to question as well if your approach was helpful:
“…………………..you would wonder how I had been helping someone in such a situation”.
So why not look at it now? I think that reading these articles will give you a first start:

Do you recognize the themes you are confronted with as well at this stage of your life?

Dear Tony,

I enjoy your interpretations of dreams very much and found them very meaningful and helpful.

I recently had a couple of dreams that bothered me quite a bit. They are related to my mom and older brother. I hope you could help me with the meaning behind.

1. Dream about older brother.
In the dream, while I thought my husband was in the lighted room, I went over and saw my brother was in a shower, facing me, naked, very clean with water streaming over him from the shower head above. However, he had no arms from the shoulders… (In real life me and my brother was living in different countries far away for more than 20 years, and we care for each other but not so close).

2. Dream about my mom
On the same night, I dreamed my mom was like a tiny granny, a little bending back, sitting in front of a troley. She was with another young lady receiving me from the airport. I pushed the trolley with luggages and her sitting at the front fo the trolley with her back facing me. Somehow the troley fell and my mom fell down a few steps of the stairs, I rushed over to her and found her neck was so soft feeling like the head was off the neck…and I right away prayed and visulized that she was ok like normal believing this will return her back to life/normal, and she did…and since then I carried her face to face on my front, with her head on my shoulder and my hands holding her bottom like carring a kid. The whole dream I had zero verbal and eye contact with her and didn’t seem like her being really conscious at all.

These dreams very confused me and I’m a bit worried about my brother and my mom. What do these dreams mean? Thank you very much!

Best,
Ivy
