Navel
Birth, dependency – especially upon mother; the way we connect our deepest self with the outside world. Having no navel would suggest you have no connection with your parents and forebears, or have lost or repressed any feelings of such connection. In some literature or drama it is shown as meaning the person is an alien or spirit. See navel and umbilical cord under body; birth dreams. Particularly read the piece under active imagination about the umbilical connection loss.
A symbol of an outer connection with our innermost feelings and being. It also represents a sign of dependency, of our dependence upon mother, upon the life process, upon earth.
The navel is a very important dream subject and can indicate your feelings of connection with your mother. But such feelings transfer onto any person we develop a close and feeling relationship with. So when there is any threat or disturbance in the relationship with husband, wife, or partner, this area might be involved and appear in a dream, or you might feel the pain or shock there. These feelings might be positive or very disturbed, depending upon your birth and childhood experiences. The likelihood is that such feelings will be blamed on the partner, wife or husband, instead of you being aware that they arise from ones earliest experiences of connection and physical and emotional dependence.
The navel, and its link with the umbilical cord, also can deal with feelings of dependence and the need for nourishment at a basic baby level. As such they sometimes become very linked with sexual need and what is felt in the sexual relationship. See Ages of Love
At a more abstract level, this area – the solar plexus – links with the way we connect with other people and the world through sympathetic feelings. It deals with how we take things into us from others, and what we give out. The digestive tract, with its ability to absorb and excrete is an image of this, but needs to be seen in a psychological way. Hurt, disturbance or pain in this area of our psyche can lead to tension and painful emotions or even physical sensations in relationship with a person or life.
Also the navel, like the nipples, can act as a sexual stimulus for some people.
Useful Questions and Hints:
How would I describe my early connection with my mother, or with my present partner – is it easy and secure, or do I still hold back or feel insecure in any way?
Is something happening in my life related to secure connection in a relationship?
What is the situation of the navel in my dream?

Thank you. ☺
Hallo, i dreamt that i had a small thin black snack/serpent coming out of my navel, first the head about two inches out. I was filled with fear, as i saw it wriggling around. I was afraid it was going to bite my stomach as it tried to make its way out. I desperately tried to find something to grab its head with, not wanting to pull it out with my bare hand. I found a clothe, and pulled it out of my stomach, and threw it as far away from me as possible. What does this mean?

Ill – Whenever we dream its images are not like real life, because a dream is nothing like outer life where things could hurt you, but is an image like on a cinema screen, so that even if a gun is pointed at you and fired it can do no damage – except if you run in fear; so, all the things that scare you are simply your own fears projected onto the screen of your sleeping mind.
Also, all the images, people, animals, places we see in our dreams, are simply your own feelings, fears, hopes and wonder projected onto the screen of your sleeping mind as images. So, it makes sense to take the image of your dream person, thing or animal back into you and own it. In that way, you are meeting and dealing with the things about yourself you are not owning or conscious of. That is why dreams are often difficult to understand, because we are hiding things from ourselves.
The snake is your own basic life energies. It is good that it reached your navel, but your fear got in the way of a great new realisation. New energy or different levels of energy flow through your body. Sometimes the person feels themselves vibrating either as they meditate or sleep, and this is a sign of that new energy. It also shows that in some way, as suggested in the analogy of the seed, when the seed produces a stem and pushes above the soil, it can take in the energy of the sun. So, as these organs unfold in a person they become almost like leaves that taking this new energy.

I woke up today after dreaming that I was putting stickers over my navels. Yes, navelS. I had about 4 rows of about 5 each. Any idea what this could mean?!

Marie – I have never met a dream like this before, I am partly guessing. But you have marks of twenty births on your body – i.e. known at a physical way – but you are covering them up.
Many people recover memory of being born, but the memory is of a different type of what adults describe as memory. It has never been put in words, so is pure feelings and sensual impressions.
So ask yourself what are you covering up – forgetting?
If conception was your real beginning, remember that conception could not have happened if the two cells that united had not been alive. And where did that aliveness begin? If you really trace it back, that aliveness began at the very first moments of life on earth, and continued its journey through to the present. Yet even that is rather a limited assessment. Life only emerged because the universe existed and offers the potential for life to manifest. To say that ‘I’ didn’t exist way back then is only a way of saying, ‘I did not have personal awareness; focussed self awareness with a name.’ That may be so, although some people will argue that. But if we accept that, it still doesn’t mean that what supports and underlies your personal awareness did not exist till the light of your self awareness lit up. The living processes and cells that give you existence have been there for a very long time.
The navels form an oblong shape, and in dreams this often represents what we dare let ourselves experience; physical reality; oneself contained within the boundaries of our experience and social and personal constraints.
So explore those navels instead of covering them up. Try using http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson
Thanks, Tony! Since you mention 20 births (I’ve never had a child), could this mean past lives?
Marie – Exactly. But I try not to put the word reincarnation in, in case it has awful associates.
Yes, so maybe you could try imagining taking the plasters off and watch what happens. Take the attitude that you are quietly listening, without trying to think what will arise.

I had a dream about my belly button having teeth last night! I’m currently 33 weeks pregnant so I’m guessing it’s pregnancy related. It was interesting though!

I haven’t come across this dream before, but my guess is that maybe your baby isn’t getting enough nourishment. It might not be the amount, but most people eat white flour products and white rice with high sugar content, both of which mean our intake of the B and C vitamins and vitamin E are deficient.
I dreamt that I squeezed my belly button (like a spot) and some white liquid came out…
What does it mean? It didn’t hurt.
I have the same dream with Nicola but I don’t see the face of someone who pushes my belly button..it’s also recurring and I feel exactly the same way she did..It gets me worried and think of a health problem that may cause the dream.
Hi – I am going to halt from answering your posts – the reason is that in so many of your post I give the same information to. This is because most people do not understand the difference between dreaming and waking life. Also I need to take time to update the site – dreamhawk.

The belly button in dreams is a very sensitive connection with others.
I had a dream that my belly button was bleeding soemething black, it was cut off by one of my cousins and after there was only a hole. We were at one of my cousin’s wedding. It was a few moments before the ceremony but all my family saw
What does it mean when you have someone (I didnt recognize the man from any where) standing over you stab you through the belly button and you can feel with every heart beat more blood pumping out and the person saying that at a certain heart beat I’m going to stab someone the same way before dying..?
Please see http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/i-am-no-longer-interpreting-dreams/
But other dream experts might reply.
It seems you have been hurt badly, and this provokes you to pass om the hurt. The problem is this doesn’t stop the cycle repeating. See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/forgiveness-as-a-power-source/
Hi
Out of the blue I dreamed that I had grown a second navel below the first one. What does this signify?
What does it mean when I dream about eating this substance that I retrieved out of my navel. It was a waxy like substance creamy and clouded colour, the taste wasn’t sweet or sour just fatty like butter and chewy smooth. I didn’t exactly favour the flavour unsure of what to feel about it.
So last night I had a dream that was gushing blood out of my crotch ( but knew it wasn’t my period) then it started gushing out of my anus , blood was at my feet then I look down and it gushing out of my navel, then my nose. I was bleeding so fast and was trying to get my husband to call 911 , but they were unavailable . Side note the whole instance started after my husband wanted to be intimate when I didn’t. When the ambulance finally arrived no one was helping me and I was in extreme pain, they were watching t.v and there were porn pictures all over the wall and I was super frightened at who these people were. I passed out and when I came to my husband said while I was unconscious they had to do an emergency historectemy. I feel a connection but can’t quite connect all the dots, mainly with all the blood.
Hello, I had a dream that I began pulling random things out of my belly button last night. Anything from paper clips to ketchup packets. I was even able to look inside to see all sorts of junk inside. I began to panic and showed my husband, but when he looked it was nothing but a pool of green stomach acid. With one or two ketchup packets floating. What could that mean?
Dear Renee – All the random stuff that you pull out of your navel suggests that you have to remove whatever experience or thought/feeling you cannot digest.
Do you think/feel that you consciously choose what you are giving your attention to, what thoughts, what feelings, what experiences etc. or do you consume everything mindlessly?
If you go back into your dream and you use http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson for your own dream figure, what does it feel like to have a pool of green stomach acid with one or two ketchup packets floating in your “emotional and mental digestive system”?
And what does it feel like to “Be a ketchup packet floating in a pool of green stomach acid”?
What do you associate with ketchup packets, paper clips and with junk? See also http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/digest/
A way to move towards consuming mindfully is by practicing self-observation; what feels good to take in, to think, to feel, to experience, to hold on to etc. and what does not; what is enough and what is too much.
You might want to take in “one packet of ketch-up” but when you take in too many, you will not be able to “catch-up” anymore to digest all of the experience/thoughts/feelings.

Hi,
What does it mean to have someone put their finger in my belly button? I have a recurring dream of my partner putting his finger in my belly button. When he does this in my dream, I feel almost completely paralyzed, I can’t scream out and can hardly breath.
Dear Nicola – I trust that you have read through this entry in the dream dictionary and I suggest you read this entry too; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/paralysed-paralysis/
and
http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/projection/
It can mean many things if you dream to have your partner puts his finger in your belly button and perhaps there is a better question available than to ask “WHAT does it mean”?
Because it is a recurring dream, I would ask my unconscious mind; “HOW can I become aware where this occurs in my waking life and HOW can I move beyond feeling stuck in a recurring pattern?”
If we take away the images and events occurring in a dream and simply look to see what feelings or emotions are evident, the dream is often more understandable than if we try to interpret the symbols. Feelings in dreams are nearly always undistorted. We therefore do not need to interpret them, simply to recognise them and see if we can recognise where they occur in waking life; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/self-observation/
and perhaps you feel like using http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson for your partner – your inner male – as he appears in your dream and for the part of you that responds feeling paralyzed.
To move beyond feeling stuck in a pattern that is not helpful you could also use Power Dreaming.
So while awake and relaxed imagine yourself back in the dream and continue it as fantasy or a daydream and move it toward satisfaction. Alter the dream in any way; experiment with it; play with it, until you find a way to fully feel at ease with it. In doing this you must not ignore the feelings of resistance and spontaneous emotion and fantasy that may occur. Satisfaction comes only when you have found a way of integrating these into your conscious imagining;

Let me know if you have any questions Nicola.

I had a dream that I gave birth thru my umbilical cord… I was screaming for help, and my pain was horrible.. No one came to my help so I ended up just giving birth standing up thru my umbilical cord!! What does that mean???
What does it mean when you have two navels, one on top of the other??
Dear Mariana – It could mean many things, for instance that you are becoming aware that you are connected with others and with your innermost feelings and being on more than one level.
Any deeper exploration of the unconscious shows that it is not simply one’s infancy and its problems that we face. There are influences streaming from the long past through the body that we have inherited. There are the family influences and massive inputs from the culture we were born into, and also other intangible forces playing upon our life. As we cut through the images and drama of the dream creator, we begin to discover and gain insights into this incredible process of creation that forms and guides our life.
