Burial Bury Burying Buried
This is obviously connected with death. So it can represent fear of death of self, or loved ones, unconscious desire to see others dead, or at least out of the way. But it also is often used when we feel buried away from society, or buried under the events of life. Sometimes we bury or repress a memory, emotion, desire or talent. Our past is buried within us. Your dream might also use this drama to show you letting go of the past, of something that is now dead, or has been let die.
The earth also can represent our mother or the past. Burial may therefore symbolise being killed or ruled by an over possessive mother, or inability to break from her dominating influence. Being weighed down by past actions.
This often expresses our desire to either leave something behind, something that no longer has any life in it for us, or our urge to repress or distance ourselves from something. We might bury someone who is still alive to show how much we want them out of our life.
This may be a letting go of the past as we knew it, and opening the way to a meeting with what we gained from it.
Burial can also hold in its images feelings about death or loss.
In a positive sense burial is a doorway to a new life. Long before Christianity taught of resurrection ancient cultures were sure that, like putting a seed in the earth, it’s death led to new life.
Buried alive: Memories of birth and its fears. Horror of being trapped in a situation that might kill you emotionally or sexually.
Burial mound: Several things might be expressed by this. Firstly it can link with your inner awareness of the influence of your ancestors as it affects your life today. It can depict the ghosts, or influences from the past in this way – the things that haunt you. Sometimes it is used to give you an experience of touching the spirit of the Earth again, the return to your own primal feelings and wisdom. In this way it is like a temple to all we have inherited and the timelessness of the Earth.
See: coffin; funeral; archetype of death and rebirth.

i dreamt that my girlfriend was sick and i was beside her head i couldn’t leave her, then she died, after that people came to me and told me that they’re gonna bury me with her, so they buried me alive but not with her, we were in seperated graves, i did my best to go out from my grave and i did it, after that people came for consolation and grief

Mike – Nearly always when people dream about someone they know or a strange new person or situation they automatically believe the dream is about that person, situation, or animal. But it is usually our thoughts, intuitions, feelings, suspicions or doubts that are portrayed as the person or even the animal; for when we think of our friend or partner our thoughts are not them – just our thoughts and feelings about them.
So your interesting dream shows that you sense that your inner female is dead – an awful situation. Because although we are polarised male or female by our physical body, in our deepest self we are whole – both male and female. The female within the male, is shown as a woman in a man’s dream. Physically a man is predominantly male, but also has nipples and produces some female hormones. Psychologically, we may only express part of our potential in everyday life. In a man, the more feeling and caring side may be given less expression. See https://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/archetype-of-the-anima-the-female-in-the-male/
Because your female has died, and because she is a necessary part of your whole self, of course you are buried too. Sometimes we bury or repress a memory, emotion, desire or talent. Our past is buried within us. So maybe you have not allowed the feminine side of you to be expressed.
Example: Now I seemed to go into a condition of surrendered and spontaneous movements arose from within. I reached out and drew the sword. The girl gasped and begged me not to touch, handle, the sword, as it was sacred, or only to be used by a special person. Then she suddenly saw, by my movements, that I was fulfilling the full ritual or ceremony of the sword. It was as if her people had a prophecy about the use of the sword, and whoever handled it in the right way was a leader for the people. Through the inner direction, I had used the sword correctly, and was this leader.
Now she knelt before me, head bowed, in Oriental fashion. The inner movements led me to bring the sword down on her neck – and touch it lightly. This was the last proof of the ritual being fulfilled. Quite without knowing it consciously I had fulfilled the ritual. Also, this last act was a rite of marriage. We were now man and wife. Our relationship was now different, and our depth of feeling for each other made whole.
This is an example of a man meeting and integrating his anima, not acting it out by trying to be a physical female. Integrating our female does not mean dressing up in female clothes or even having an operation to change sex. That is further developing an unbalanced self. Integration means having both the female and the male self equally developed. That is wholeness. So therefore being firmly female, male or homosexual are all unbalanced. It takes courage and hard work to achieve.
My uncle passed away 2007 and he comes to me in my dreams sometimes to wsrn me about something that his about to happen or to telll someone something… this time it was different.. i saw him while I was up, ubwas actually at work working when I saw him… I turned my head and looked back he was gone.. not long after I had a vision that something bad happened… I come home went to sleep and dreamed my daughter passed and i had to bury her… i don’t what it mean… for the past week or so I’ve been going crazy… getting mad for no reason, flipping out on my fiance and son… why is this happening to me… why am in having these dreams

I have had a recurring dream for a few years… I have killed someone and buried them. Most of the time they are buried under a bathtub and the body begins to rise and cause the tub to become unstable for the rest Of the dream I am trying to stop that or trying to find a way to remove the body wothout anyone else knowing . The dream feels very very real. So much so that I kind of wake up from the dream almost in a panic because I think I’m going to get caught in real life ( I think it’s all sooo much odder for me because normally I’m able to control my dreams)
I just had a dream that me and my best friend bury someone we really don’t know what was in the coffin but to us it was somebody we don’t even know. After the burial on our way back from the cemetery we saw some friends that know real life on their way back from the same cemetery they siad they was looking for one of their friend mother grave but they did not find it.
Hi – The answers I give arise not out of me thinking up things to say, but from fifty years of exploring dreams in depth. So some of what I write may seem wild. This may be because dreams arise and are experienced by a level of your mind or awareness that very few people have any concept or experience of – usually called the unconscious. Life dreamt in its creatures millions of years before even humankind awoke and developed self awareness or language. So to understand dreams we need to leave our thinking minds behind and go into our feelings and reactions – a much older level of awareness.

Weele – It seems you wanted to bury/hide something or someone from your thoughts and feelings. Someone you didn’t want to know any more. But of course you can bury memories but you can never really lose them, so friends reminded you that it was about your mother.
The drive to bond with a woman at birth is built into us. This has generated from millions of years of survival strategy. If that bonding does not take place, much of what would have been natural unfoldment and growth, cannot, or does not, take place. So mother sometimes represents this whole difficult issue of survival and what happened in those early years of trying to become independent of such extraordinary needs. Basically mother is the difference between life and death.
I dreamed that someone I work with buried lunch meat as a child and we were looking out a window and he was pointing to the location of where he thought it might be buried. His dad then came to the window and pointed at a house to the left of the point where he believed the lunch meat was buried and said, “Don’t forget you can have that house for pennies on the dollar if you can find the lunch meat and dig it up.” My coworker replied that he didn’t want the house so the lunch meat could stay buried.

Lisa – In the first place, nearly always when people dream about someone they know they automatically believe the dream is about that person. But when we think of our friend or partner our thoughts are not them – just our thoughts and feelings about them. In the world of dreams our most intimate fears and longings are given an exterior life of their own in the form of the people, objects and places of our dream.
So why are YOU dreaming about burying something from your childhood days. We often put different people to stand for people like our father because we do not want o face the feelings involved. If that is so, your father is making silly promises – why? If you want to find out for yourself, imagine yourself being your friend and his father using http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson

Kishan – Your relative in your dream does not refer to them but something inside you. When you think about a friend or a person you know, you are only taking in your thoughts, impressions and feelings about them. So many people do not realise that they have an inner person equally as powerful as the external person you know. You have taken in millions of bits of memory, lessons learnt, life experiences along with all the feelings or problems met by meeting or living with them, and they change you and make you the person you are. The memories and experience we gather unconsciously change us and are not lost. It is part of you and is symbolised in dreams as a person or event. Such inner people can appear in dreams because you still carry the memories or impressions of them, and so they influenced what you hold within you.
So your dream suggest that the feelings you carry about your relatives are burying you – making you lose your power and confidence.
You can change this by using http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/secrets-power-dreaming/
Hi,
I recently dreamed about people who were buried in the dirt but who came out of their graves and a woman (not one of them) explained to me that they were only burying themselves like that overnight – to sleep. The whole dream had a really unpleasant and creepy feeling and I felt horrible waking up, like something was wrong. It was not at all as zombie-like as it sounds, I hadn’t seen a horror movie in a long time and I feel as the dream was really coming from my deep unconscious… I don’t know how to interpret it. I would be very thankful for some help.
My mother recently passed away and exactly one week ago my mother was buried after batteling cancer. Today, I just woke up from a dream where I was sitting talking to my mother in her room and the room was empty except a for a chair she was sitting on. We we listening to music on the radio while my son went to get something in the floor (like a basement of a basement of some sort) and I think it was shoes. A few minutes passed and I noticed my son hadnt come back up so i started calling out for him. All of a sudden I hear him calling me from under the tiles in the floor. My mother jumped up and turned off the music so we could hear him. He was trapped and begging me to get him out. There was a little hole in the floor that I could hear his voice coming through. He told me he just killed something and I couldn’t hear if what it was (a mouse maybe). I was terrified and was my mother and I were looking for a way to get him out, my mother picked up a piece of floor tile but the floor was solid underneath. While my mother was alive I was took her all her doctors appointments and cared for her dragging my son along mire times than i can remember. Usually, I can interpret dreams for the lesson Im supposed to derive from them but this time I can’t. Please, please tell me what this dream means!

Tamika – I see your dream as a message about your son, and helped by your mother.
Being trapped under the floor shows him lost in a level of the mind which is were people hold their bad feelings – ones they do not admit to themselves. It may be because he has seen, watching your mother’ struggle, that death is an end to all life – a depressive thought for a young boy. I remember, when I was thirteen, watching a woman have a heart attack. It left and awful feeling in me for many years.
Unfortunately, that is the overall view of life. But it is a huge lie. See http://dreamhawk.com/news/there-is-a-huge-change-happening/

I had a dream this morning. My daughter (she’s 26) and I were digging with a shovel. The area we were digging was muddy. Here comes the hard part – turns out we were digging a grave for her daughter who is one years old, she is still alive and was still alive in the dream. I found it so upsetting I can’t remember much of the dream before that, but my daughter and her significant other were teasing me and I think it had something to do the method I was using to dig, or the purpose of why we were digging and my daughter said “we were just waiting for you to realize.” I was then watching from a distance of my daughter “prepping” my granddaughter by putting her in some thick, muddy water to coat her with it, I suppose to make her slip into the hole better which makes no sense. She sat her in it up to her waste and my granddaughter started to play in it. Then I woke up. My granddaughter was wearing a little pink jacket with a hood and was playing in the mud. I woke up one minute before my alarm went off.
A couple of things to note. There is nothing my daughter loves more than that baby and would give up everything and anything for her. Me too. My daughter and I did just go to a celebration of life event for my brother’s mother-in-law yesterday evening who had passed last Saturday.
One more thing. I have struggled my whole life to become a morning person. I naturally gravitate to being a night owl. For about the past month I have done extremely well at getting up at 5:30AM. The past week or so I have been struggling with it yet again. I told myself last night I was going to get up at the appointed 5:30AM. I found that dream so disturbing I got right out of bed this morning at 5:29AM. As I was washing my face getting ready to go down stairs to immediately try and figure out what the dream meant, I looked at myself in the mirror and asked, “is that some cruel way to get me out of bed?”
Hi, i had a dream today about going to bury someone. That person was my lil daughter but she wasnt dead. We actually walked together with her to where she was suppose to be buried. Then we got there , they put the coffin down and said in about 3mins we gonna take her cos at that point i was holding her and put her inside. So i asked u gonna put her inside alive? The the person said Yes will put her alive then just close it until she no longer breath. My daughter was perfectly fine nothing wrong with her. The person also said that wat we always do and i said so basically you bury people who are alive and he said yes . At that point i took my daughter and ran away from them saying you are bad burying people alive. Then the person started apologising saying i wont do that ever again. I ran away with my daughter then i just woke up. Can u pliz tell me what this dream mean. Thanks a lot.

You are probably thinking of or seeing your dream as if it represents your everyday waking life. But dreams operate in a completely different dimension, and are actually a mirror image or representation of your inner life. As such our dreams seem like a complete mish mash, so your dream is not about your daughter but about you at that age. See http://dreamhawk.com/inner-life/inner-world/#MakesInner
Did you feel at that age the you were not understood, or you could not express yourself? Dreams often do this because often it is painful to face the truth unveiled. But you have gained the strength to bring the buried you back into be fully expressed. But at first you may feel as if you are like a child in some ways. See http://dreamhawk.com/health-and-healing/inner-baby-and-child/
Last night I had a dream where I buried myself several times but it wasn’t as if I was trying to kill myself but that I was doing it for comfort and survival. The only thing is that in my dream, I would bury myself (using magic to keep the dirt away from my face and body so I could breathe), go to sleep and then when I woke up in the dream, my face and part of my upper body would have the dirt moved away.
The only thing I have going on in my life right now that this could pertain to is that my husband and I split up a little over a year ago because he was on drugs really bad, we were always fighting and I didn’t want our son around all of the negativity. Well, he has recently cleaned himself up (no longer on drugs of any kind), has gotten a good paying job that came with a promotion before he ever even started orientation and is working on getting a car and his own place. He told me that he wants his family back, wants to work things out and wants us to move there with him but I really don’t know what to do. I think that’s possibly why I had this dream.
Dear K.P. – Your dream could reflect indeed that you perceive it as difficult to decide now how to respond to your husband’s request and that you rather “sleep on it” first.
Perhaps you need some more time on your own to be able to digest this difficult part of your life?
See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/digest/ and http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/opening-to-life/
If you feel like it you can use http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson and explore what thoughts/feelings/images arise when you imagine burying yourself.

Hi. Recently, my grandfather had died. And my brother died almost 3 years this year. Last night I dreamt that I am on a burial event of someone I don’t know but my relatives are there. I don’t know who is going to bury because I wasn’t able to see his/her face. My relatives and the other people who were there too said that the body of the dead (someone I don’t know) should put beside my grandfather and brother. So they dig my grandfather and brothers tombs. They said they will open my brothers coffin but I said don’t. Then I woke up. Thank you so much in advance.
Dear Erica – Because you do not see the face of the person who gets buried, your dream may reflect that you are repressing something – for instance a memory, an emotion, certain ideas, desires etc. – inside yourself.
Your relatives may represent values, attitudes and emotional or social responses you have absorbed from your family; the influence of your family traditions in your present life.
Facing what will be and what has been buried or repressed may help you to understand what is going on in your inner world.
To explore the person who is going to be buried see http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson
Another approach could be to enter your dream again while awake and open your brother’s coffin.
What thoughts, feelings, images etc. arise when you do that in your imagination?
