Grandmother Grandma Gran
So many people dream about their grandmother, especially the dead grandmother. Grandmothers represent so much in your dreams. They are the doorway through which your life came into being, and bring us that much nearer to the source of Life. They are also the wonderful gateway to the ancestors and their collective wisdom.
Of course they could also be a bad grandmother – but even so they are a reflection of the pains and inner wrongness we may carry with us through our family inheritance. So whether good or bad we should honour them, for only through them can we find out way back to what is beyond them in the past.
She is a mother and a grandmother and is a very special person in your life. A grandmother is the living essence of all the mothers who have existed before them. I know that seems an everyday thing in one way, but if you take time to consider it, it means that your mother or grandmother is a sort of magical being. It also means that she is a stream from which the rivers of your life have flowed.
At times a grandmother may appear like an angel, as she is to a young child. Her touch and love is a link with the ancient wisdom that grandmothers have inside them. It can reach through them and change your life.

Inner grandmother: Many people do not realise that they have an inner grandmother equally as powerful as an external grandmother. You have taken in millions of bit of memory, lessons learnt, life experiences along with all the feelings or problems met by loving and living with or knowing your grandmother, and they are what makes you the person you are. This is true even if your grandmother was never there for you – you still have all the memories of her not being there for you filed under ‘Grandmother’. The memories and experience we gather unconsciously change us and are not lost. It is part of you and is symbolised in dreams as a person or event. Such an inner mother can appear in dreams because you are still deeply influenced by what you hold within you. The inner grandmother can also signify what has been received via genes passed on or ancestral influences. See ancestors: parent integration; The Conjuring Trick
Example: I had this dream about my grandmother: I walked into a very bright house where there were so many little children…it seemed she was taking care of them, they were playing and laughing inside the house. She was wearing her favourite flowered dress, as I walked toward her she spread out her arms and offered me a hug, so I went to her and as she hugged me I felt warmth and happiness, I saw bright flowers and sunshine and plants in the breeze. Then in an instant it was all gone. I woke up; I was in a good mood. I got ready for work and as I was on my way to work my mother called me to say happy birthday. Right at that moment I remembered the warm hug my grand mother gave me that very same morning…..what a coincidence that same warm feeling. As I shared that dream with my mother, we both had tears of joy.
Example: But as the baby I knew I was giving a signal that I was bonding. The cries were a bonding signal. I wouldn’t cry until I was in the presence of someone I could bond with. I felt my mother had been frightened of my weakness, had thought I was dying and had not opened her heart to me. So only now did I bond.
I knew someone loved me. I knew they understood what pain was and were not afraid of it or of death. This pierced me right through. It was my grandmother, but to me it felt like some higher being who had reached out of the unknown to help me. The bonding cry was a signal to say “I recognise you! I recognise you! I’m bonding to you. I’m bonding to you! Someone recognises me. I can cry now because I am in the presence of love.”
Example: What could this mean? I have been in communion with my spiritual nature and speaking to my loved ones who have passed on recently (mother, grandmother, papa, great grandmother and oddly, I’ve been feeling my great great grandmother around me, though she passed on long before I was born).

Hi I had a dream about my grandmother where I am a adult and she has been dead for over 17 years and I sit next to her and she suddenly became alive. I introduced myself to her because she looked very confused and as if she did not recognise me. The only thing that she said was her name and she just laid there on her bed and looked at me. We were not close in life as I was so little when she died and I have never dreamed of her in the 17 years. But in the dream I was crying for her and I wanted her to be proud of me because we shared the same profession in life.
Thank you I am looking forward to the reply

Salomie – Many people do not realise that they have an inner grandmother equally as powerful as an external grandmother. As you read, she is a mother and a grandmother and is a very special person in your life. A grandmother is the living essence of all the mothers who have existed before them. I know that seems an everyday thing in one way, but if you take time to consider it, it means that your mother or grandmother is a sort of magical being. It also means that she is a stream from which the rivers of your life have flowed.
There must have been some ancestral influence that you have taken hold of and made yours – the same profession. So I feel this is you waking up the inner grandmother, maybe you didn’t share much of her life, but you needed her to be proud of you. You have the essence of her in you; either because grandmothers are usually guardians of their family when they pass into the spirit world or because you also carry much inside you.
So please realise that you can talk with your grandmother and she can hear you, but because she has no physical body she cannot produce sound, so she communicated with feelings and thoughts. So tell her that you are walking in her footsteps and hopes she will reach out to you. Then sit as if listening and see what happens.

Litzy – Why can’t it be real? You must be mixing up your dream life that takes place in a completely different environment with you life in the body. We all have an inner world that is quite distinct from the outer world we encounter with our physical senses. It is the world we meet when we have an emotional reaction, an idea, or close our eyes and live in our fantasies, imagination or dreams. When we enter it we are in the dimension we often call the mind, but it might better be called awareness or consciousness. In this state we cannot be hurt, for we are simply experiencing our own mental constructs. In this world of experience we are capable of seeing the so called dead. The big difference is that our body is almost blind and deaf, because our sight only registers about one percent of visible light and our hearing only about one percent of audible sound.
Unfortunately most people are so programmed to see everything exactly like our body, with its pains, its vulnerability, its ageing and eventually death, and we identify with it so completely that we think WE are the same, and so people suffer enormous fear or hurts.
The baby boy is yours, but again a dream baby, which has as much reality at its level as a physical child. I believe that such a baby is a very real part of you – though an inner and not an outer part. It is because you are a female mammal and females are designed to have babies – it is instinctive and unavoidable to at least dream of creating a child. The child is a creation of your growth as a person. Remember the changes you went through as you left childhood and entered teenage? Well such changes do not stop and are represented as a new baby in your dreams. It will slowly show as a new ability or interest, or a new level of what you already are as a person. See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/growth-of-something/
Your grandma holding out her arms to the child is saying that she want him with her. Don’t get frightened by what that means, because a dream child is already in the dimension of death, so no harm can come, and your grandma obviously loves your new creation.
