Rat

What you sense as sick or negative, so can depict your fears or anxieties, frightening instincts or urges, physical sickness or anxieties about health. Perhaps also feelings of sexual repulsion, or using sex to gain material aims. But this was caused by the fallacy that rats carried the plague and are unclean, but rats are very clean.

It was found out by historical research that it wasn’t the rat that brought the plague to Europe but the gerbil was the culprit. Sometimes a rat in your dream can remind you of love that was betrayed, or intuitions about a person being a ‘rat’ or ‘ratting on you’ – doing things behind your back or underhandedly – or deserting a relationship when difficulties arise.

The rats can point to threatening things going on that you are not clear about, or a view of the underhanded side of yourself or others – the evil side of human nature, its dirt and squalor, or time gnawing away at your life. The unacceptable parts or oneself. In some dreams the rat has the character of most rodents, the gnawing inquisitive searching out of things. It can therefore relate to one’s anxieties, self questioning and worrying mind that disturbs or eats away at things like peace of mind or confidence.

Because we may have associations with rats used in laboratories they may suggest healing and sacrifice.

Pet rat: Quite different to general rat associations; vulnerability, instinctive intelligence, the caring feelings or drive to care; responsibility for caring. The rat is an intelligent creature, is a great survivor and explorative.

In China where various types of rat are cooked and eaten, the astrological symbols are replaces by animal symbols. The rat (sometimes referred to as a mouse) is the first of the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac. People born in this year are expected to possess qualities associated with rats, including creativity, intelligence, honesty, generosity, ambition, a quick temper and wastefulness. People born in a year of the rat are said to get along well with “monkeys” and “dragons”, and to get along poorly with “horses”.

RatsInHinduTemple

Here the rats in this Hindu temple are venerated, and are being fed.

In Indian tradition, rats are seen as the vehicle of Ganesha the elephant god, and a rat’s statue is always found in a temple of Ganesh – the elephant god the remover of all obstacles. In the north western Indian city of Deshnoke, the rats at the Karni Mata Temple are held to be destined for reincarnation as Sadhus (Hindu holy men). Rats are eaten by some people in India also.

Idioms: Rat on someone; rat race; smell a rat; feeling ratty; cornered rat; rats leave a sinking ship.

Hi – I had a dream last night that I saw a long and large rat’s tail, and it had recently been separate from its body and was on the floor along the corner of a small room I was in. I was there with three people from my past (only some idea of who they were – one was from grade school and the others were from my adult life), who did not play a large role in the dream but simply were present. I thought we should move the tail but it’s not clear whether we did. Then there was a cat’s tail growing out of my ear. It was large and I could pull it out and make it longer; it was gross, with some particles falling out around it.

In the next part of the dream, I was at the end of a tunnel that people were sliding through. There was a person manning the tunnel at the other end, letting people know when they could go through or not because water was backing up. Some of the people going through were children (I am 42). It was my turn, and I knew I could probably turn around if I wanted to and not go through but I went through anyway. When I got to the other side, the water was cold and treacherous. I was in the water on the other side for awhile. Later I was in a city other than where I live, staying at a hotel, seeing a show called Reverb with a singer on stage who was on lsd, and there was another man I know who was helping him stand to sing his song. The show was from the 70s.

I am especially interested in what the rats and cats tails mean, as well as the tunnel/flood.

I had a dream I was at my boyfriends house but, he didnt live there, my family did. at the front door was two clear bags both with about 15 white rats in them. there was one bigger rat, ramming the the side of the bag, over and over. someone in my dream made a comment of me not feeding them. next thing i knew i was upstairs sitting inmy room (or my boyfriends room) with my two younger step siblings and a rat came into the room, and then 2 more, then 5 more, until there was about 100 rats in the room. i picked up the kids and put them ontop of the bed standing up. but the rats only wanted me. i was grabbing the rats by there necks and throwing them into the hallway. last thing i remember is the rats biting my fingers and me waking up in pain in my hands and all on my arms for about 5 minutes.
if you could please help me with this, it would be greatly appreciated. ive been having weird dreams for the past week.
another was a car accident with my boyfriend. he went flying from the car, but was fine, and i was impaled by glass

I had a dream I ran my hand threw my hair &I it peeled back. Then a bunch of rats that were losing their hair ran by.

Whitney – Have you had a relationship with someone that turned bad – someone who might be called ‘a rat’? If so it could be one reason because any upset could cause you to lose hair.

last night i dreamt I saw a large white rat wretching in death until his last breath. It perturbed to see the rat in ways (more sickened than frightened) and I didn’t really want to watch the creature sick and dying either. I looked away trying to avoid it all only to peek over and notice his last final breath. I still just felt I needed to move on and anxious to have it all out of my sight. What is your interpretation?

I believe it may have to do with watching a friend who is really more a enemy finally leaving my life. Though I don’t have the heart to hope for them gone or to say goodbye it is happening in front of me, like it or not.

I had a dream that I was about to go out my balcony screen door (onto the balcony from my apartment) but as I reached to slide the screen, I looked down and saw this great big black thing. It scared me at first, but then it wasn’t moving so I calmed down…I thought it must be a spill of something…but then as I set to step over it I see it’s a rat. I became so frightened-I had also almost just stepped on it-I screamed and ran away in my dream and then woke up.

It was so real and vivid, I immediately woke up like I had just been hit with an adrenaline shot. I cannot get this out of my head. And I don’t know what this particular rat dreams means.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I had a dream that is bothering me a lot. In my dream there is the old barn. The barn s full of large rats. I hate rats so I get the red can of gas and the next steps the barn is burnt to the ground no ashes at all, and mt daddy, who is deceased, is yelling at me for burning the barn down. My mama, also deceased is in dream but does not speak. All I remember is waking up thinking that I did not have matches to start the fire. This dream has me scared.

I had a dream that I was in a room full of rats but they were clean rats not dirty and I wasn’t grossed out by them in any way and I also had a dream about a past love of mine first I was seeing him in person they slow he became a picture. What can this mean?

    -Maria 2013-02-27 15:19:31

Both were in the same dream

-Gina 2013-02-16 14:13:12

Recent dreams… I’m walking into a nice, clean home- rats, or cat- like animals appear. I don’t seem afraid, but know they must go. One dream, the rat actualy lightly biting my fingers. I wake not feeling afraid. One dreams continues… My husband & I either own or are fixing a nice, clean home… Rats & now small black snacks appear. We try to collect them in black trash bags, but they escape. Again the dream is not scary – I think due to the feeling of the home being “nice, clean & put together”. Your thoughts.

Hey Tony. (: could you provide some insight into my dreams? I specifically keep having ones about pet rats, at least once a week. there’s always more than one, and sometimes I’m surrounded by them. I’m either looking for them, or they’re overflowing in my arms and I’m trying to carry them all. I’m not afraid of rats, I used to own 2 of the rodents and was rather fond of them. Thanks.

    -Tony Crisp 2012-12-31 13:58:54

Shona – I am not sure why I feel this, but I think your dream is about caring for small vulnerable things, like babies. If I am right, and you are carrying and caring for such a rich harvest of Life, then your recurring dream may stop. If not let me know what the next dream is.

    Tony

What do you think this dream means? I was in a house that was mine but unrecognizable in real life. I saw things on the back porch that were pretty to look at, and my Dad was there removing a dead plant from a pot that was outside.

Suddenly, I see a big dead rat lying on top of a bucket of plastic things (maybe toys?) inside the house. I was terrified, repulsed, horrified. I asked my Dad to remove it. He agreed, but didn’t do it right away so the horror stayed.

When he did remove it, he carried the corpse across the room and it leaked wet on me. I was terrified, especially when the drippings went on me, but in the end felt relieved it was going away.
