Spider
Often the dependent emotions and conflicts one feels ‘caught in’ connected with mother or family; any emotions you don’t want to ‘handle’, such as those surrounding a spouse leaving; wanting to ensnare, or feeling trapped by someone. Sometimes symbolises a mother’s power, as in the way we are caught in the web of her desires and emotions. So inability to become independent of the mother.
But it can also be feeling caught and wrapped up to be eaten later sort of feeling, so being ‘handled’ by someone; or having all the time to watch for subtle signals in order to survive. See big spider dream
The spider can also be used as a symbol of sexual orgasm, but only if we are terrified, disgusted or guilty about such feelings.
The spider can also depict any emotions you don’t want to ‘handle’, such as those surrounding a spouse leaving; wanting to ensnare, or feeling trapped by someone; the basic survival instincts in us such as a spider might have – can I eat, or will I be eaten in this meeting/relationship? This level of our sensory and feeling perception is important. Like a spider it keeps one of your feet/fingers on the web or influences that connect you with other people and the world. Like the spider, if you are wise, you thereby know something of what is coming your way – do you advance or run? See: Web.
The following waking fantasy by a man undergoing depth therapy shows an aspect of the spider. | |
I realise there is something I am looking for, and I don’t find it in my wife, or at least I don’t sense it in her. It is a frightening thing and partly exciting. This leads me on to fantasising a struggle with a young woman. It is about wanting to have sex, but seems to be some sort of power struggle. The image was of a smart very confident and aggressive young woman. She was attractive and attracted, but her approach was one of attack, so to have a relationship I needed to fight her. What I appear to be meeting is that I have the sex drive, but what I am facing is a monster. In fact I have the image of a huge spider that comes out from hiding and drags me helpless into its lair, its many eyes shining. I’m afraid. It’s not that my sex drive abates, but within this fantasy you have to time it just right. One must wait for the ‘beast’ to become passive then dash in and plunge into the wonderful hairy cavity. Otherwise the ‘beast’ will rip you apart. It is exactly like the horror films one sees of the monster that drags men or women back to its lair. It is actually all about my fear of women based on past pain. I want sex, but to get it I have to confront memories of being torn apart emotionally by a woman.
Here is fascinating dream about spiders, and its exploration:
I found your email on the internet for dream interpretation. If this is not correct, I am sorry to be bothering you.
I have had the same dream as I fall asleep for several years. I have it nearly every night just once, sometimes, rarely, twice as I fall asleep.
I dream that I find a dried piece of skin or scab somewhere on my body, usually my foot or my hand, tho it has varied over the years. I begin to pick at the skin/scab and scratch it until it comes off. When it comes off it unleashes a flood of seed spiders that engulf me. Another variation is I find some odd black hairs growing out of my body and when I examine them more closely they are regular sized spiders crawling out of me and they begin to engulf me.
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Again, if this is not correct, I am very sorry for the disruption of your time. Best C
Here is a interpretation:
Dear C – What I see with your dream of spiders is that there is a possibility of an underlying fear, so that when you begin to sink just below waking, just under the surface of your mind, this feelings of being overwhelmed arises. If it were a big thing that emerged it would be easier to deal with. But thousands of little things are difficult to handle because you kill some but there are so many left to get at you. A big thing you could hit with a cricket bat or kill it in some way, but the small things are more difficult. They are a sort of ultimate enemy. You need to find an image that enables you to deal with those feelings. An image that might be helpful is that of jumping into a very hot shower, one you can just about cope with. The water is pouring down and is going to burn up the little bugs. Another image might be that you walk quickly through flames that you are big enough to pass through with perhaps only your hairs being burnt, but the little spiders are going to get burnt up.
Were you at some time frightened of sickness? A sickness that could engulf you and you would be powerless against? If not that, then perhaps an image of something, or an idea of something that has stayed with you just under the surface of your mind. Tony
Dear Tony: Thank you….THANK YOU for getting back to me with the dream information. I am fairly well educated about things but could not come up with anything for myself. I think I may have been too close to it.
You mentioned several things that seem to “hit the nail on the head” and I will explore those. The most important thing you mentioned was that of being “powerless against” illness. I do have a life long disease that is manageable but could be fatal. I think this is where I am going to start as that is what seemed to really set off bells.
I really do thank you for this. It has not been interfered with my sleep and the dream only occurs as I fall asleep….once asleep, I am fine.
I thank you so much and I am sure that my partner thanks you as well……
Thank you…thank you….thank you…. With gratitude, C
So having seen spiders in a dream occasionally indicate an illness, if you are in any doubts it is wise to have a health check.
Covered on spiders: If they are large it might mean you feel someone will smother. Or that you have no way of escaping from someone or something.

I had a dream about a spider, in this dream they were 3 spiders on the stairway in my house. I told my son look those spiders are going to bite you.
I then saw one spider blocking my way to enter into a store, it came at me, I grab a vase to trap it, but it was strong and it was lifting the vase with it’s legs, I push down on the vase and cut off it’s legs. It grow new ones, I cut off the legs again, but this time the spider’s body looked like a Droseraceae plant but purple in color and it bite me.
Thanks Rosa

Rosa – The spiders and plant are simply reflecting back at you your aggression toward them. With a small amount of love and care replacing your fear and attack the whole dream would change. For whenever we dream its images are not like real life, because a dream is nothing like outer life where things could hurt you, but is an image like on a cinema screen that even if a gun is pointed at you and fired it can do no damage – except if you run in fear. So all the things that scare you are simply your own fears projected onto the screen of your sleeping mind.

Dear Toni,
I dreamt I was singing to a little baby boy who was laughing with me, I then passed him back to his mother and walked into another room. My sister was there and asked me if I’d cleaned for which I replied yes. Lin then pointed to the ceiling above the wardrobe and said you missed a cobweb, I was just about to say it has been done when I looked up and saw a large spider with I presumed was her baby also big but smaller and were grey/silver in colour. I brushed the broom across them hoping to move them but they didn’t budge so Lin poked them with a stick and to my horror they jumped on her head so I quickly brushed them off with my broom. We then dragged the wardrobe forward slightly as very heavy and behind the wall was covered by webs! I then woke up still feeling horrified that it had jumped on to my sisters head!
What does it mean?
Thank you

Jenny – A difficult dream, but if you realise that all the people, animals, places you see in your dreams, are simply your own feelings, fears, hopes and wonder projected onto the screen of your sleeping mind as images. So, it makes sense to take the image of your dream person, thing or animal back into you and own it. In that way, you are meeting and dealing with the things about yourself you are not owning or conscious of. That is why dreams are often difficult to understand, because we are hiding things from ourselves.
So the baby boy is most likely your own desire for a boy child, but you are not ready for that so you hand it back to your mothering instinct.
Your relationship with your (older?) sister stands in the way because although you did your best to clear the mess, she still finds things. It involves your mother, your sister’s birth of her child, and the fear of getting caught up – the web.
Realising that when you think about a family member or a person you know, you are only taking in your thoughts, impressions and feelings about them. So many people do not realise that they have an inner person equally as powerful as the external person you know. You have taken in millions of bits of memory, lessons learnt, life experiences along with all the feelings or problems met by meeting or living with them, and they change you and make you the person you are. The memories and experience we gather unconsciously change us and are not lost. It is part of you and is symbolised in dreams as a person or event. Such an inner person can appear in dreams because you still carry the memories or impressions of them, and so they influenced what you hold within you.
So you are not dreaming about your sister but thoughts and feeling about her that you have interiorised about her. It seems you are horrified about the sticky mess landing on her head. You can get near to understanding by using – http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson
I dreamed of someone chasing me trying to put a spider on me what does this mean?

Tahlea – You haven’t read the introduction, which says – I think – whenever we dream its images are not like real life, because a dream is nothing like outer life where things could hurt you, but is an image like on a cinema screen, so that even if a gun is pointed at you and fired it can do no damage – except if you run in fear; so, all the things that scare you are simply your own fears projected onto the screen of your sleeping mind.
So why are you running away for an image – think about it – because there is no actual spider in your dream. See http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/opening-to-life/
I dreamed of a big massive huge spider in some swimming pool i was in. It was really big it took up half the pool! All i can remember is my mum and dad there and they were showing me how to swim and i was trying to get away from the spider then the spider got near a wall i think then after that there was a baby laying aside then the spider ate the baby up? Wat does this mean!!!
Hey I just woke up and I had a dream I was in bed with my fiance and my son and when I looked over to my son he had spiders on him like the daddy long legs ones and I saw them all over the bed .. I kept killing them and getting them off and killing them….then I got out the bed and saw a black one but it wasn’t that big but much bigger than the daddy long legs and it was definitely not a daddy long legs… I kept telling my fiance to kill it and like always he just wouldn’t listen to me .. And I was scared it would bite one of my kids…
Hi – I am going to halt from answering your posts – the reason is that in so many of your post I give the same information to. This is because most people do not understand the difference between dreaming and waking life. Also I need to take time to update the site – dreamhawk.
So, most of what I put in answers is my attempt at explain what dreams are really about. It would help you to understand your dreams, if you would read – http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/questions-2/#Summing also http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/features-found-on-site/

Ask yourself, wast are you actually frightened of with your own your youth your child? Whenever we dream its images are not like real life, because a dream is nothing like outer life where things could hurt you, but is an image like on a cinema screen, so that even if a gun is pointed at you and fired it can do no damage – except if you run in fear; so, all the things that scare you are simply your own fears projected onto the screen of your sleeping mind.
It is also important to realise that every image, every scary or terrifying thing, is taken place inside you, in your mind, as you sleep. This means that every awful animal, every scary thing, or person, is created out of your own fears and must not be seen as outside you as happens in waking awareness. The problem is that we are often scared of or frightened of experiencing our emotions and so they confront us in our dreams. Avoiding them or controlling them is like running away from oneself – there is no escape.
I keep having a dream of a spider that looks like a black widow but it’s about the size of a baseball and it’s brown with white spots, I dream that it just shows up in my dream and we observe each other for a moment and then it jumps on me, as it lands I jump awake. It’s the 2nd dream in 2 days, I’m freaking out. Please help if you can.

Hi, I had a dream about a blue spider (the colour above) and I was wondering what it meant. It was on the ceiling and followed me. I was showing it to my husband but he couldn’t see it.
Many thanks,
Deirdre
Deirdre – The colour of the spider suggests feelings or intuitions of things that are subtle and not seen or understood by many people; perhaps even a sense of something that comes from beyond our personal life and memories. It arises out of a sense of connection with something that unites.
The spider itself, well its meaning depends of how you feel about spiders, especially the dream spider. Perhaps you can find out by using http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson
I feel you must have talked about the subject with your husband but he couldn’t understand or ‘see’ what you were describing. But it is following you about so is still on your mind. I am guessing it is to do with you being more aware, sensitive to what goes on under the surface of people’s lives.

Hi last night I had quite an intense nightmare, where I was laying on the lounge chair and I notice a large spider web.
Then I noticed a red back spider on it, except it’s massive(the size of my head) and the web stretches across the room so it’s always close and above me with that red back really close to my face.
I panic and scramble back but the web moves and the redback scrambles towards me, getting terrifyingly close.
At that point I notice my younger brother walk into the room and I call out for help but he stands there blank, no expression, then turns and leaves.
I keep scrambling back with this giant Redback still scrambling after me and I become so terrified that I wake up with my heart pounding. I’ve rarely had a nightmare that literally scares me awake.
I’d really would like to know the meaning behind this nightmare to avoid repeating it.
I just had a dream about a spider appearing above my bed. It happened after watching my boyfriend and sister play fighting together and I got annoyed of how close they were. Normally to me she would say she hates him. But they were laughing and betting on a 5$ bet about my mom saying she didn’t think he would be there when she got back home. She was jumping on his chest and funny to say, they even were dancing. So I rolled over and looked up and there it was. I was terrified. Only to see a number of webs as though it were coming toward me before but never made it. My boyfriend then took a book and slapped it away but it came closer to me. I couldn’t step on it. Then he swept it away from me. It was very strange.
hi there , im very curiouse and have done a bit of research on the giant speders and fealing terrified and like you want to die but i cant find any that are qiete liike my situation. out of the blue (sorta) my dad rings and says his girl friend who i dont really get along with (mummy issues) is in a pannic and had just had a horrifing night mare about me with the ginant spiders all aroound me and i felt like i wanted to die . as i was telling my best friend(sister ) she stoped me before i could really start and goes holey f*** i had a dream it was much simular but she can only vaigly remember it .dads girlfirnds was much more vivid as she stays very healthy ..((its a warming yet interesting that after all this time bethany dads girlfriend was able to subconciously connect to my emotion witch was about to truley feel the emotion in the dream…. but at the time i itoldf her for hers and my dads sake of stress that it would just be the demonds of an ex and that every things ok . well im still in the house i have just experienced this evil shit and was in a bad spot i couldnt leave the room mentally i coulnt do it but at this very moment i no im coming out of it and gettin stronger and nearly ready …..i new what the dream was goin to be but i was in denial so i didnt evan have the coroouge to read about it or research because yes i was avoiding any thing i could because shit i did not want to no just kept falling in my lap …… so theres my little input feel free to scincerly freely let your thoughts out on this any one i no its special and me and my sis are very fraky ssometimes lol we just connect anmd some random nights we can sit there and just figure everything out and figure our suroundeings and our pouroses in this shitty house hold
Levi Jade – Your dad’s girlfriends dream is not about you but about her. When you think about someone, as you have been about dads girlfriend, it is only your thoughts about her, and your thoughts can never ever be her, just your thoughts.
You are obviously an anxious person to be worried so much about someone else’s dream. But remember that whenever we dream its images are not like real life, because a dream is nothing like outer life where things could hurt you, but is an image like on a cinema screen that even if a gun is pointed at you and fired it can do no damage – except if you run in fear.
So do try not to be scared of your own imaginations – it might help to read – http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/eight-step-method-to-manage-intense-emotion/
Spiders often represent intense feelings about difficult emotions about the dreamers mother.

Hi I had a dream a year ago I was carrying a bucket of water to the bathroom when i got there the the bucket has been empty so I was wondering where the water has passed imediately a spider fall on my chest trying to pull out my heart I decided to fight back then I got up from sleep
Hi–I recently had a dream so different that I want to ask about it before I forget the details. In the dream, I was traveling in a car and had a glass aquarium that had a small spider I was taking care of. I was kinda freaked out by the spider, but was still caring for it. I would get nervous each time I cleaned its space. It grew and was scarier and would run all fast and spidery when I would open the glass aquarium to clean (I guess I was cleaning–somehow “caring” for it). Then it got big enough to totally freak me out and I tried to kill it. I don’t know if I killed it or not.
Can you please help me with what this might mean? Thank you!!!!
