Aversion Therapy
aversion therapy This was a development of behavioural modification theory. An unpleasant experience, such as an electric shock, or induced nausea was coupled with the performance of whatever behaviour the person was trying to overcome – smoking or alcoholism for instance. The theory was that the unpleasant experience would be associated with the habit and cause its removal or disappearance. The therapy was not as successful as hoped and other behavioural techniques are more frequently used. See: behavioural modification therapy; Life Changes; Conditioned Reflexes; The power of Habits.
