Airplane Plane
The plane in your dream shows all the amazing possibilities of change, of varied experience, of romance, business and discovery in life today. But it also holds all the possibilities of failure, of not being able to get your projects or relationship off the ground, along with delays, unexpected threats, and the possible tragedy and loss you might meet in life. Your dream airplane communicates this in the action your dream portrays. The plane journey, for instance, suggests a change in your life, leaving your ordinary affairs behind. It is a journey into the unknown, into taking risks. Perhaps you are making a move toward, or away from, love and opportunity. It is risky because the plane can fall from the sky, and you can meet feelings of failure or despair.
A plane can also attack, and this shows fears, anxiety about being exposed to attack from other people or events. This does not mean you will be attacked, only that you fear it.
To climb aboard a plane is to embark upon dramatic movement from one way of life, or one situation in life, to another; a leap into the unknown, into chance – so it is a powerful symbol of change. Perhaps that flight into chance, into life and its mysterious possibilities might be okay. But it might fall from the sky too. Meanwhile, on the plane you will not have your feet on the ground, you will not be secure, everything is ‘up in the air’. The plans, the love, the hopes and efforts might die, might lead to tragedy with all its rippling effects moving into the web of relationships and events connected with the flight of the plane.
In exploring a dream about a plane crash it took a long time to really connect with anything, but when I did the feelings were all about how there has been a crash of my dreams, ambitions, desire for love and the heightened feelings that arose or ‘took off’ in connection with a lover. In comments on planes above I say, “The plans, the love, the hopes and efforts might die, might lead to tragedy with all its rippling effects moving into the web of relationships and events connected with the flight of the plane.” This was true in my life.
An attacking aircraft: Feeling attacked either by your own doubts and self criticism, or that of others.
Being grounded: Sense of not getting anywhere and frustration; plans and hopes that haven’t connected with achievement or opportunity – maybe this isn’t the right time yet.
Biplane: It can represent a more full contact with flying in a plane, and needs a lot more courage to do.
Example: “I saw a biplane fly overhead. Its pilot was performing daring new stunts. I ran into a house to tell a man who was in bed to run out and see the plane. ” David R.
The example clearly shows one aspect of what a biplane means, being daring in a new area, taking risks in life, braving a new work area or relationship.
Difficulty landing: Difficulty achieving goal or making it real in a down to earth way; anxiety about where life events are taking you; feeling out of control or not being in control; difficulties or fears about being in someone else’s hands.
Falling out of plane: Usually anxiety, sometimes about death or failure of high hopes. It is also the opportunity to fly if you can overcome your anxieties.
Flight attendant: A part of you trained in dealing with personal problems, and also emergencies.
Pilot: The pilot is a part of you used to having a much wider and inclusive view of where you are going in your life, so trust their help.
Plane falling rapidly: ‘Pit’ feeling in stomach that one gets when feeling anxiety about the outcome of a situation; sense of failure or guilt; apprehension about the future of a project or direction; anxiety about something.
Plane journey: The plane is also a means of leaving things behind, rising above or finding a way of escaping difficulties or the past. It is a way we move beyond the limitations of any one locality, racial customs, family attitudes or religious environments. It is the power of the mind to move among and learn from or experience these many states of being. It offers a much wider or more inclusive view of where you are and where you are going in life.
Private plane: Ones personal activities and plans not deeply connected with other people.
The crashed or wrecked plane: Worry about failing. Can be anxiety bringing down your ambition or adventurousness; a loss of self confidence or mental equilibrium; warning about a business project; broken dreams and hopes. Sometimes shows or refers to a break up in a relationship or a failed endeavour, a hope, a journey that fails.
Watching a plane crash: A sense of emergency; feeling you are aware of an important social or national event. Sensing something difficult happening or having happened in your life, like a divorce or loss of business or love for instance. Can sometimes relate to childhood traumas that make it difficult for you to get your life taking flight.
The plane journey: Shows a move toward independence; leaving home or friends; success.
Watching a plane land safely: The arrival back to oneself of the actions, words and energies sent out into the world. As a simple example, we may have a carpet to give away because we are moving. We tell a neighbour who passes the information to someone else. This new person wants the carpet. A completely new person therefore lands, or arrives in our life. The landing plane may also mean coming down to earth again, or making something more applicable in an everyday sense.
The example below clearly shows one aspect of what a plane means, being daring in a new area, taking risks in life, braving a new work area or relationship. David is calling on a part of himself that is withdrawn and inactive to ‘get up’ and be involved in something daring. Sometimes the plane in the sky represents feeling threatened by something new or unknown. This is shown in the second example.
Example: I saw a biplane fly overhead. Its pilot was performing daring new stunts. I ran into a house to tell a man who was in bed to run out and see the plane. David R.
Example: A woman who was a radio researcher was offered the job of presenter. She was thrilled but dreamt she was in a road walking and planes flew overhead dropping bombs and shooting. She had to dive into a ditch to avoid being killed. When she explored the dream she realised she was afraid of facing the public directly, and this fear if left unconscious would have caused her to refuse the job. She accepted the fear and managed to press forward with the job.
Useful Questions and Hints:
Am I taking a ‘flight’ into a new or challenging situation or relationship?
What am I leaving behind or arriving at?
Are there radical shifts of life style I am involved in?
Do some events in my life feel like a ‘plane crash’?

I had a dream that i was so lucky. First is, I saw money inserted in my passport on my way to the airport. When i was to board the plane, i forgot that i have some baggages i had to bring with me. The plane took off without me. After a few seconds, the plane crashed. I went to the crash site only to find my things still intact. One person keeps on saying that I am so lucky.
I felt so weird when i woke up. can anyone please interpret this for me?
In my dream, I was in the plane. During the take off the plane began to loose control and teeter from one side to another, then circled around and began to drop. The passenger next to me held their arm over my lap to keep me from flying out of my seat as I fumbled with my seatbelt. The and eventually landed and no one was hurt.. Remember being scared and being worried about my baby ( 15weeks pregnant) wondering if that caused a miscarriage with the pressure changes and fear…
I’m going through a lot with my job currently. I am a vet tech. My boss is asking a lot of me and while I want to help and do as much as possible. I’m also trying to learn to draw the line and not work myself to death, as I need my rest and to take care of this life growing inside me. I have guilt about not going above and beyond like I’m used to. But I need to draw limits now, don’t I? I’m anxious about the pregnancy, that all is going well, and hoping the daily stress that I undergo is not harmful.
Dear Amy – The passenger who is sitting next to you in your dream reflects an inner resource and with his or her help the plane lands again and no one is hurt.
So imagine yourself in his or her place to explore and integrate this part of your inner world;

You wrote; “I have guilt about not going above and beyond like I’m used to” and you will have to sort out this inner conflict before you are able to set clear boundaries without feeling stressed about it.
Did you have a talk with your boss about your pregnancy and how you feel?

For the past year planes pop into my dreams at least once a month. I am always on the ground. I always watch them crash and burn. I am never afraid and it never hurts me. I just witness horrible, fiery plane crashes. What is it trying to tell me!

I than try to run and see if I can find the plane and help whoever might have survived. Than I wake up. What does this mean?

Last night I dreamed about flying on a plane but not in an ordinary way.. It was a small personal plane and I didn’t know the piolet but he was accompanied by a women I thought to be my mother, instead of getting in I climbed on the front and held on to robe that had been tied through almost a mount type metal object, and a dog can’t remember the breed but he was older lay next to me I asked “aren’t you gonna put him inside”.? He replied ” No, he does this all the time.” Which I thought was weird but we took off and he said I want to show you the view of New York like nobody else can we flew for a minute but I saw the dog slip off but he was like dog paddling as if he were in water then he just fell then poof it was like we were on the ground and the dog just had a limp and a cut on his butt the women was gone til we got back to the plane and as i walked back to it I ran into another girl Blonde hair didn’t recognize the face from anyone I knew she was almost flirtatious in the short conversation we shared then I climb back on the front and woke up.? I thought it was weird, any thoughts.?
Hello, i just had a dream about me and my wife on an airplane then someone i dont know who pushed me off the plane. I cant swim so i ended up falling on the ocean then some friend helped me get ashore then all my friends, family and co workers were thier collecting spiders so i started running. Everyone i know was trying to stop me to take pictures or have a small chat but i was trying to get away from the spiders. Someone i cant remember who it was held a jar and had a spider in it that they captured. Then that person threw the spider at me. My wife said she woke up because i was shaking like seizure like in bed but its because i have arachnaphopia. In that dream i had all my fears in one, im affraid of heights, swimming and spiders. Kind of messed up that in the end of my dream i dont remember who it was who threw a spider at me i dont knoe if it was a family member friend or co worker but i do remember it was female from the sound of her voice.
Dear Omar Guzman – Tony recently told me that “Our dreams are a gymnasium and also an experimental area to explore our range of feelings.”
Your Life Will creates a dream in which you can meet all your fears so that you can explore your responses.
See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/what-we-need-to-remember-about-us-3/#Important
The start of your dream shows that you are not willing to voluntarily meet your fears; you are pushed or forced to experience what you rather avoid.
So you meet your fear of heights and nothing happens other than that you land on the ocean. At that point there is an inner resource available to get you ashore.
Once again nothing happens to your dream figure; he is still alive and moves on to face the next fear; your fear for spiders.
Another daring step!!!
I do not feel it is important who threw a spider at you; I merely see the message of your dream as a reflection that in your inner world you can practice meeting what you normally tend to avoid.
Shaking is a symbol of tremendous inner growth which occurs when you meet your fears.
Vibration is movement, and movement is one of the main signs of life. Life and growth are interwoven, and one of the first signs of massive personal growth or change is shaking or vibration in the body or pelvis, which will occur when you dare to face your fears.
The push to grow is often thought to come from ambition or ones urge to succeed in life, but that growth is usually from our personality, but the major source of physical and psychological growth is from the process of Life: the Life Will.

Perhaps you feel like entering your dream again while awake and in your imagination you jump off the plane voluntarily, you swim to the shore and you stop to let friends, family and co-workers take pictures while they are collecting spiders and then you catch the spider that is thrown at you?

Thank you for your interpretations. I had a dream that i was driving an helicopter alone i was above building but there were xmas decorations everywhere disrupting my view, i was going straight then i missed my turning to the left and suddenly i did not know jow to turn back and then my plane came crashing down n i woke up. I also had a dream of a train about to crash and me finding my way to the back of the train to keep myself alive. In my waking life i recently resigned to my job to start a new big company of my own which has not been an easy target. Kindly assist with interpretation of my dream. Thank you
Dear Dee – Both dreams could reflect your (train of) thoughts and feelings about starting your own company.
Please also read http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/helicopter/
Your first dream suggests that you do not have a clear view yet of where you are going.
Starting something new may be like that at the beginning and you may have to overcome many initial difficulties and fears (crashes) before you will be successful.
Did you write a business plan? Did you develop a strategy?

This site is so provocative. Thank you.
Over the last year I regularly have dreams about catching planes; most recently rushing to catch a flight while trying to not be detected by those I’m leaving. Previously in one I was anxious that I didn’t have my ticket to board the flight and when I realised I did, i tried to make my way to the aeroplane but the airport is huge and eventually I see it in a hangar so far away I will surely miss it. I get to board but don’t take off.
Hi, I had a dream that there was an aeroplane ready to fly. Me, my mother and sister watching from our house window as the plane was parked near our house. And I was telling them not afraid of airtravel and it was safe something like that. Like encouraging them. Then the plane came inside our house without demaging anything. And I was happy and excited. Like it was something great deal having g plane in house, wow type feeling. The pilot also said the same that how easy n safe is the air journey and offered us to board and see the plane. The plane was like fighter plane. I stood up n the plane door opened. I saw inside the cockpit but before going inside I asked my sister to take pix with plane from outside first. Then I woke up. But I clearly remember the fighter plane and its sound and the fire coming out of its tail. Does this dream have any meaning or it is just that I have a fighter pilot friend and my mother is going alone out of city first time by air next month? 🙂 By the way, today I saw fighter planes in my dream again but not bombarding just patrolling in air for surveillance. Thanks!
My dream was about me flying a small airplane. All went well no crashes. I had to take a friend somewhere but somehow i delaying her pick up.
What does it mean when u are the pilot?

I dreamt that I seen a small plane in the air, red whit and blue with USPS on the fins. I could see it very clearly from where I stood. So clear in fact that i seen the fins rattling and said to my self that plane looks like its going to crash. And before I finished the thought the plane started decending and crashed. I never felt like I was in danger. It crashed a good distance from where I was. There were two other people with me but they did not see it crash. I remember running inside because I wanted to tweeet about while the others called for emergency help. I couldn’t get Twitter to work and then my phone turned into a half of an onion. I was looking at the onion in disbelief and started peeling away the layers.
Dear Tammy – Your dream may reflect that “something” did not manage to reach you.
“Something” could be a http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/letter/ or a http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/parcel-package/
In a way it could be seen as a form of communicating that did not work out very well, maybe because “the message” came from “abroad”; from a person with a different cultural background or thought system.
In your dream you explore if tweeting is an approach that “will work”.
Tweeting is a way of communicating with others and your dream suggests that this approach is not the answer; not the way to deal with “this crash”.
Instead your dream suggests “calling for emergency help” and that help may be found in using the crisis as a means to start exploring your own identity and culture; going within or self-reflection rather than interpersonal communication.
Because this exploration needs to go step by step – layer by layer – as you get to know yourself, it is symbolised by peeling away the layers of an onion.

Hi. I had a dream that I’m on an aeroplane (2 seats im at window seat and partner is at aisle seat) with my fiancé of 3 years and we are flying across my local town and suddenly the plane starts spinning round really fast. My partner is sleeping and I wake him to tell him we aren’t going to make it and I love him. I suddenly remember I have a 6 week old son and I’m hysterical. I feel the wings of the plane trashing buildings and then the next thing I’m on the pavement with my partner and all the survivors. I can see the trashed plane and I am checking the pilot is okay. She has broke her back but is alive and trying to call someone. I tell her she can stay at my house until she gets better. Then I woke up crying.
Dear Nat – I like to explore your dream and I need some more information.
Do you have a 6 week old son in your waking life too?
Please write down anything that you think might have triggered the dream or links with it in some way.
Did you go through a difficult period with your fiancé recently or did you feel challenged at work (a new project?)?
Anna 🙂
I love your site. I refer to it often when trying to analyze a dream, which is what has brought me here today.
The man I have been seeing for 10 years had a dream of walking across a bridge and suddenly hearing a plane overhead. It was very low and obviously loosing altitude. He could see Its landing gear was not open. It crashed onto a highway and he could hear the metal scraping on the road and as it was hitting cars. Then he looked and saw a second plane heading right for the first that had crashed. When it crashed it went under the belly of the first plane and then exploded. The blast threw him back on the bridge. He wasn’t hurt and immediately got up at which point he realized his clothes were blown off and he was only wearing white underwear. He started to walk towards the crash feeling embarrassed he wasn’t wearing any clothes.
The one question haunting him is why 2 plane crashes? I believe it has to do with the stress of a new job that he’s feeling a lot of pressure from. He took this job in hopes of a promotion to move to be closer to me. I’ve recently moved 12 hours away. Could the 2 planes represent his job and our relationship? And the explosion being a fear of an end to our relationship if this job doesn’t bring the promotion he’s striving for?
Thank you for you insite. Also, thank you for the information on your site. I find it to be so very helpful when I get stuck trying to interpret dreams. Many blessings.
I dreamt I was on an airplane flight with a friend. We weren’t seated near each other. I don’t remember there being anyone next to me. I was Seated toward the back of the plane. I was typing on my laptop. It was a rather seething memo about using better customer service. (I’m not sure why this stood out to me). A blonde flight attendant walked by with a bag collecting garbage from the passengers. I don’t know why but i felt immediate disdain for the woman. I remember Feeling annoyed that she had walked past me without checking to see if I had any, even though I didn’t. I went back to typing. A woman from behind me got up and walked past me carrying a young boy in a red coat who was crying. She seemed irritated and I recall feeling pity for her. She took the child to the front row of the plane and deposited the child in the lap of a man in a white shirt. Then she walked past me again and returned to her seat. The man immediately got up carrying the boy and followed her back behind me. Our eyes met briefly and he had a look of boredom or indifference to him. I returned to typing. When I looked up again, the plane was mostly empty. We had landed. I remember feeling guilty. I never knew we were landing so I didn’t turn off my computer or my phone and my tray had been down the whole time. Plus I had this overwhelming need to find my friend. As I was putting my phone and laptop away, the blonde flight attendant approached me from behind and said my full name. I turned and politely inquired how I could assist her. She said if I wanted to continue to fly with them, I was going to have to make some changes. (This line in particular haunts me constantly) I woke up before I could find out what she meant.I can’t get the dream to do rebuild.ok.
Dear April – I wonder what it is that “haunts you” about the idea of going to have to make some changes.
Is your friend male or female? http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/friend/ and http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/archetype-of-the-animus-jungs-view-of-the-male-in-the-female/
What I see in your dream is that the change may be about how you relate to yourself and the different aspects that are part of who you are.
The different aspects that are visible in your dream are your own dream figure, your friend, the flight attendant, the woman, the young boy and the man.
Because of your feelings in your dream toward the flight attendant, you might want to explore why you feel disdain for her; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson because she could reflect a shadow part of you.
The Shadow is any part of yourself that you reject, and so do not allow sufficient expression in your life. You may so dislike aspects of your nature that you fail to recognise them altogether and instead see them in other people and criticise them.
If you can think of the characteristics you loathe in others then you get a fair picture of what you repress in yourself.
You could still ask the flight attendant what she means with “She said if I wanted to continue to fly with them, I was going to have to make some changes”; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/dialogue-with-a-dream-character-or-object/
If you think of garbage as ideas or opinions that you want to drop, then you might want to explore if you don’t have anything that you want to let go of, which is what change is about as well.
If you explore the woman – does she relate to a part of your past? – carrying a young boy in a red coat who was crying then what other thoughts, feelings or images arise?
Because a child can also be a symbol of what a man and a woman have created in their relationship with each other, you might want to explore what your sadness is about, what your irritation is about and what your boredom or indifference is about.
It will also help to become aware of the thoughts and feelings that are part of your inner world, by learning to observe where they occur in your waking life;
http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/self-observation/
I trust this will give you a start.
Anna 🙂
