Cross

Difficulties or tribulations we carry, perhaps unnecessarily. It can also indicate human life and its whole spectrum of physical experience, sexual, mental emotional, cosmic – painful and delightful. The body, upon which consciousness is nailed or fixed during life.

The cross can also point to meeting death as an initiation into a new awareness and a spiritual life – the death being a psychological one, followed by rebirth or resurrection. See Ronnie Laing – archetype of rebirth.

In Christianity the cross also has many meanings. It represents the religion as a whole; Christ’s willing suffering; man’s suffering in the name of his religious beliefs; the strength of his beliefs; a sign of spiritual goodness and power to ward off evil. It also means the agony and wonder faced in surrendering individual will to the will of the community/communion, in exposing oneself, the sacred heart, to all emotion, pain, pleasure to transform it. See archetype of crucifixion

Lastly, it can symbolise perfect union, balance, equality and atonement of the the different parts of your being. Dreaming about the cross can be a sign of a personal destiny led by the best in us, Christ or a sense of the Divine. So a turning point in ones life. See Archetype of the Christ

A cross can also indicate wrongness as with tick being correct, cross being wrong or forbidden, or completion as when crossed off list.

If cross upright as + : Being upright; correct; self assertion; balanced.

If cross as X : The four extremities; reaching out; crossing out. Like the square, it can also represent wholeness, solidity, especially if the arms are equal length. See: crossing.

Idioms: cross my heart and hope to die; cross over Jordan; cross over to the other side; cross paths; cross someone; cross that bridge when I come to it; cross your fingers; paths will cross.

I have been in hospital after surgery and someone I respected dearly recently passed away. I woke from my sleep and saw them standing in the room. She gave me her cheeky smile and wink and was waving her hand in a way of trying to say something but I couldn’t understand. I tried to get out if bed to get closer but she left. The next day, I was asleep and I felt the sign of the cross being drawn on my forehead by a thumb, I’m certain this was my friends mother as she use to do this to me when I would visit her when I wasn’t feeling well.

What are your thoughts?

Hello Tony,

I HAD A DREAM LAST NYT THAT I AM CARRYING A large WOODEN CROSS alongside multiple people. Could not remember how many people. And I am taking the wooden cross to a religious place, I quess it’s an Church (open church) ground or Church ground.. Very large ground inside the Church premises. There I saw 5-6 children already wrapping up the wooden cross given to them earlier. I quess it’s their duty to protect the cross and we had also given our wooden cross to them., particularly to the priest who asked the children to do the needful with our wooden cross..
Please tell is it good or bad ?
Thanks Tony

I had a dream a few days a go about a cross in a toilet bowl. It was laying on the bottom of the toilet in the water and the string that the cross was on was beautiful silver i believe and fat, but it was tied. The two ends of the string were tied together by a running knot. What can this possibly mean?

    -Tony Crisp 2016-10-28 9:18:01

Nataliya – The toilet is a thing you use to get rid of stuff your being/body doesn’t feel is useful and so is discarded. So, it seems you have discarded something that has yet survived, and it is beautiful – meaning that it links with a quality or power in you that is recognised because of it is reflection of your own inner beauty. But often we are often so lost in the thoughts or beliefs that the important things are in the outside world that we lose sight if the really important parts of one’s own nature. See http://dreamhawk.com/inner-life/inner-world/#MakesInner

Of course, if you want to receive that beauty you have to put your hand down the toiled and meet the feelings. And the string suggests links or ties with you, and perhaps that you should wear it as an adornment.

But remember that this is all about your inner world, to be imagined. Because all the images, people, animals, places we see in our dreams, are simply your own feelings, fears, hopes and wonder projected onto the screen of your sleeping mind as images, it makes sense to take the image of your dream person, thing or animal back into you and own it. In that way, you are actually meeting and dealing with the things about yourself you are not owning or conscious of. That is why dreams are often difficult to understand, because we are hiding things from ourselves. To do this you can use http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson

I just recently had a dream this morning that is difficult to understand without context so I do hope you get the chance to see this message.
First off, it felt so instant the way it occurred which was strange in itself. It was the only one hat was viseraly memorable. I was laying on a bed and I’m looking up and I see two crosses and the had words around them. I couldn’t read the words but they were there… As I was starring I was trying to close my eyes but I felt a tension that was pulling me downward… It felt heavy. It seemed like I didn’t want to look at whoever was laying next to me.
But something forced me to look so I took the chance. It was a women about my age (23) and she looks at me with a devious stare and says “it’s not over”. I then began to feel like I was being choked. And instantaneously, I woke up.

To give context:
My relationship has been flip floppy this past month and my trust has been waive ring but that doesn’t stop me from trying to make it work. We were in a big fight and we got over it… Now is this my subconscious speaking for itself in fear?

I would love your input seeing as this dream has shocked me mildly.

It would be most appreciated to acquire some advice

    -Tony Crisp 2016-10-09 9:49:17

Raul – The crosses suggest some Christian connection in your life. Or it could be crosses you carry from past experiences.

That would link with the feeling of going down – the down feeling.

The woman it was difficult to look at point to something you find it hard to look in you – possibly linking with a hard time you had with a woman. Often the woman is your mother, because we project our hurts, connected with love, from a parent onto whatever female partner we have. Obviously the inner problem you face is not over, not dealt with.

The big clue is that you then felt you were being choked. This might be about feelings you are holding back and/or that being in relationship with a woman re-stimulates the feeling of being choked or strangled by a woman.

I had a dream where I was being surrounded by the devil’s most powerful demons during midnight; they jeered, insulted me, and was ready to attack. I didn’t know what to do at first, but I raised my cross necklace, waving it in front of them, and angrily told them, “leave, in the name of Jesus Christ.” This kept them at bay, then something like an invisible shield kept them from advancing, but they did not leave. Then, someone divine (unless I misinterpreted the dream for him/her to be divine) appeared next to me in the form of my dad (but in my dream I knew he was not my dad), and told me how to drive off the demons for good. Then I followed his instructions and drove off the demons. I wonder what all this means?

    -Tony Crisp 2016-09-29 11:14:17

Garnid – To understand what your dream actually means, you must realise that whenever we dream its images are not like real life, because a dream is nothing like outer life where things could hurt you, but is an image like on a cinema screen that even if a gun is pointed at you and fired it can do no damage – except if you run in fear; so all the things that scare you are simply your own fears projected onto the screen of your sleeping mind.

So a demon is simply an image of something that scares you. Demons and the devil were names given in an ancient t past to invisible forces that caused awful effects in people’s lives – things like mental illness, sudden illness or mood swings causing terrible effects. Of course artists started drawing pictures of the things, which led to people seeing them in dreams.

But after fifty years of investigating dreams, and actually personally meeting and dealing with such demons, I tell you they are simply repressed invisible psychological fears you have. The repeating of, “In Jesus name” is an ancient way of producing a feeling of confidence and is completely missing the point, because instead of meeting the fear and discharging it you are represses it so it can arise again. Of course in the past they had no general understanding of the unconscious and it influence on our waking mind and dreams. See http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/lifes-little-secrets/

Example: I was fighting against the Devil for hours in my sleep last night. I was with a group of people doing this. The Devil attacked a woman. He was invisible. The woman turned black as he raped her. She didn’t die. At this point I woke and went to the toilet. On returning to bed I continued the dream, particularly wondering what I was in conflict with in the image of the Devil. I found it disturbing and frightening to be confronted by such a powerful opponent. Partly because of the rape, I realised it was held back sexuality. I then approached the ‘black’ woman with tenderness and this transformed the Devil into available, sexual and emotional energy. I tried this again and again. Each time it worked, and I could observe the connection between the Devil and what I do with my sexuality. If I repress it I meet the devil/lived, if I allow it I meet loving, caring sexual feelings.

I had a dream that I was sketching or helping to sketch the cross of Christ.
I wanted it to look very specific, it had to look 3 dimensional & I wanted it to portray the actual cross Jesus carried. very Heavy & solid wood.
What does this mean

-nicko 2016-01-07 12:40:54

I had a dream of 8 dead trees, with a cross in the middle and a crow landing on it.
There was 4 dead trees either side. All trees were shaped like crosses

I had a dream of a lady scratching a cross multiple times in what looked like mud seperated in different parts of the piece of square mud. I went to her because someone else in my dream told me i needed to see her beacuse i wasnt ok and she had to tell me something. She also wrote i think it was three lines together on the bottom. There was also like a child spirit and a bunch of other spirits trying to talk to me. I remember the child because it wanted to play with me and i pushed it away and yelled no to focus on the message the lady was trying to tell me!

I am going through two weeks of fasting and praying for a special request I have from God. At the end of the 1st week I saw a dream where the priest from my church was blessing me with a large cross, he did it a few times pressing the cross hard against my forehead.

    -Anna - Tony's Assistant 2015-09-04 8:58:25

Dear Beth –The way I see your dream is that – through your fasting – you make room inside your body and inside your mind.
This openness and empty space enables you to receive a blessing and I wonder what you feel/sense in the dream when the priest gives you his blessing.
Did it feel/sense like a release of energies/thoughts/feelings for instance?
    Did you feel love(d)?
I think it is important that you give meaning to this blessing yourself as well and you can do that by becoming aware of what you feel/sense when you receive the blessing and so I suggest you enter the dream again while awake and observe what happens inside you.
    See also http://dreamhawk.com/inner-life/clicking-on/
The meaning I would give to receiving a blessing on the forehead is that it can be a symbol of receiving new insights through direct experience which might have been part of your fasting experience too.
This sometimes occurs through loving feelings or learning to become detached from desires, anger, moods and longings. Detachment does not mean you do not have any special request; you can still have it AND you can let go of it easily; in other words, you have no investment in the outcome; you can let go and let God/the Life Will.

I dream of a priest putting an ash cross on people’s forehead and he did not put a cross on my forehead. he just looked at me and passes me. what’s the meaning of my dream?

On my second dream there was a house under construction and I was waiting for my husband there and there is a child a girl, and don’t know where she from. I carried her, take her to sleep, and seems she’s close to me. she’s also with me in the church. when my husband returned he gave me a little money and when he left I texted him why did he gave me a small amount of money but his cellphone was left in my house. what’ s the meaning of all these dreams? so weird I just don’t understand why am I dreaming of these crazy things..

    -Tony Crisp 2014-03-30 12:23:45

Ara – I think your second dream explains the first one. The house under construction is about big changes going on in your life – or will go on. So probably the priest saw this and waits till you are finished changing.

The young girl is probably a part of you that still needs care, making you sometimes feel like you need support. It seems like your husband gives support but not as much as you feel you need. You feel that he isn’t listening to you and your words are not heeded.

The money is about you not feeling valued. But watch the big changes that are going on, and help it by developing a different attitude about yourself. So many women feel they need a man to support them. That is fine if it happens, but if not you have the power to do something yourself. See http://dreamhawk.com/news/avoiding-being-my-own-victim/
