Lion Lioness
Lions appear in many dreams, and usually signifies anger, desire to hurt, aggressiveness; or fear of these feelings in others or ourselves. We may feel fear of our own anger due to it threatening injury to others in a way that would reflect upon self, and devour our other feelings and desires. The lion can often express feelings of love that cannot express normally, and become aggressive instead. If we see someone we love showing interest in another, or if we feel ousted by brother or sister for parents’ love, our feelings may seem to us like a terrible lion. Daniel in the lions’ den is a beautiful symbol representing how these feelings may be calmed and changed if our life is given to the influence of love.
The power of our physical strength, of our temper, of our emotions or sexuality; love that has become anger through jealousy or pain; leadership; ones father or fatherhood, or mother if it is a lioness; an image of the father/mother God; leadership; watchfulness or guardianship; self assertion or boasting because of the power of the lions roar. The story of Androcles and the lion shows how the pain felt by our ‘animal’ life process, if tended by the conscious personality, brings a loving relationship between conscious and unconscious.
Many children experience recurring dreams of a lion chasing them through their house. This is most likely due to a developing struggle with their natural feelings of anger and aggression. This because their parents might attempt to quieten or control the child’s temper, or criticise it as ‘bad’.
Being frightened of an attack or possible attack from a lion suggests an ‘attack’ of anxiety or fear about something. Consider the rest of the dream to define what.
Many people dream of being chased or run in fear when they see a lion in their dream. But your dreams are simply a projection of your own emotions or fear upon the screen of your sleeping mind. So why don’t you rerally express those emotions instead of being afraid of your own feelings. Why not roar back!!?? But please see Nothing can Hurt You in Your Dreams
As an example of what you can do in your dreams, here the dreamer ‘roars’ back!
Example: When I arrived at the attic I put the dog down. But now the attic was empty and dark. I could feel my hair stand on end and my skin ‘crawling’. Actually I feel it all again as I write this. The feeling arose because there was an unformed dark shape creeping around at the far end of the room. The dog was really afraid and came into my arms. Then the dark creature leapt at me, transforming into a massive mouth with huge fangs and awful demonic face. Immediately I leapt at it in the same way and smashed against its face with my own huge fangs. This utterly disarmed it because it had felt, in its primitive way, to terrify me. It surprised me too that I could so immediately transform into a monster when necessary.
Example: A huge black panther chased me. I fell and it clawed my back. I/it was about to chew my back to bite me. I didn’t know whether to relax or struggle. After being floored by the Panther I managed to get up. I later did active imagination. I allowed the panther to eat me, and I thus became the panther. Then I, as the panther, noticed a tiger. Feeling enormous temper – anger – hate I leapt upon the tiger to claw and devour it. I really felt strong temper. It kept really appearing to get smaller and smaller. Eventually I saw it as just a toy cuddly tiger. Then its head came off as a pantomime horse does, and I was amazed to see that my cousin Sidney was inside it, who I felt had mercilessly teased me as a child. The panther was my own feelings of anger.
As an astrological sign, the lion is the sign of Leo, a ‘Fixed’ ‘Fire’ sign. In the dream of a person born with the sun in Leo, the lion may represent their basic character. It is said to be the heart of the Zodiac. In it all the activities of Aries have been concentrated and given purpose, permanence, passion and a certain nobility. It is the Royal Sign denoting Love, the Ruler of Life. Subjects of this sign are said to be proudly ‘faithful’ and scorn what is weak, small-minded, or mean. It is the sign of the Sun – the physical and also the Divine Sun. In terms of human evolution the sign of Leo represents rulership of the animal kingdom, to become a dominant creature, expressing the best of the instinctive and natural within human nature. Thus in The Witch and The Wardrobe, the greatest strength and unifying influence is the lion. But there is a step beyond this into independent awareness where one recognises oneself not only as the powerful and creative universal animal life, but as an individual human being as well.
Useful questions and hints:
Are there signs that this is about anxiety or anger – if so can I define what they connect with?
If the lion suggests strength and protectiveness, am I relating well to it?
What do I feel if I imagine myself as the lion?
What are the key words I use in describing this dream?

I dreamt that a Lion was really hugging me I could actually hear his heartbeat it was Amaizing I have never felt so happy and secure Can anyone tell me what this could mean Thankyou
I had a normal dream last night, then suddenly i saw many lioness and then me and my friends were locked up in a room where i tried to keep the door shut. As soon as i had shut one door the lioness came towards the other door and i was struggling to keep it close. It was very weird. I dont know what it means.
I had a dream i had a pet lion (from a cub) it was like a pet dog in the dream..but was trying to give it to a zoo because it got too big. I was running around the zoo trying to find staff to help ‘catch him’ so he didn’t follow me home. I was also afraid he’d attack me now he was fully grown.
Dear Helen – You have to explore for yourself what you associate with the Lion in your dream.
So what do you feel if you imagine yourself as the Lion? Which feelings (sexual feelings? anger? aggressiveness?) do you perceive as “too big to handle”?
See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson
Can you imagine that your perception “too big to handle” is “only” a belief?
What is important to understand, is that our dreams can graphically illustrate our beliefs and what influence they have upon our decision making, responses and relationships. The importance lies in the fact that many of our beliefs are unconscious. They were absorbed in childhood and often remain without any conscious evaluation. Dreams also tend to explore where such beliefs lead us, and what the outcome of holding them may be in certain circumstances
See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/beliefs/
Dreams often stand in place of actual experience. So through dreams we may experiment with new experience or practice things we have not yet done externally. For instance many young women dream in detail of giving birth. This function of what might be called ‘imagination’ is tremendously undervalued, but is a foundation upon which human survival is built.
See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/imagination-and-dreaming-2/
Why not start using your imagination while awake and use it in a more effective way?
Running away from your Lion, locking your Lion away is like trying to get away from your own emotions and/or sexuality, so not meeting problems in a way that will resolve them.
So while awake and relaxed imagine yourself back in the dream and continue it as fantasy or a daydream and move it toward satisfaction. Alter the dream in any way; experiment with it; play with it, until you find a way to fully feel at ease with it. In doing this you must not ignore the feelings of resistance and spontaneous emotion and fantasy that may occur. Satisfaction comes only when you have found a way of integrating these into your conscious imagining.

Hi Tony,
I had a dream last night there were 2 black panthers and a lioness I was in a room I’ve never been in before I keept the door open because across the hall in the other room with the door open were 2 black panthers and a lioness( there was no door to shut they were gone) I remember knowing I was safe as long as I didn’t get in there space but I also wanted to keep an eye on them at all times. I also remember needing a candle because the electricity was out all I could find was a candle 3/4 of the way used up but I knew I had more a lot more but could not find them and I remember getting very upset, I also remember thinking I needed light to see and it was stolen from me, i also needed the candles to boil water(no electricity) also a women came to visit me in this room and she was intrigued by these large cats and she’d ask me a ton of questions about them finally she wanted to pet them and tried very hard to get me to go with her but even in my dreams i trust my gut and said you can do what ever you want but I’m staying here she was really trying to talk me into it but I my answer remainder no and when I turned around she was gone I never seen her pet them.
Hello, last night I had a dream about a liones hurting my son. In the dream my son was crawling age but he is now almost 3. My son didn’t cry or anything but he survived. I fought off the lioness and her cub by myself. My husband was there but we started arguing because he wasn’t helping. I ended up killing the lioness and reciving my son. Any thoughts about this?
I had a dream that I was in a building…something like a work building or a school of some kind. Well, it was a lion in a cage and all of a sudden it got loose. Me and The workers in the building started running around and tried to find somewhere to hide.
We were running in the hallway of the building and I was last in the line. All of a sudden the lion was behind me at the end of the hall. I was so scared that I started running faster. But, that did not make a difference the lion was approaching me fast. The weird thing was, when the lion got close to me and I turned around the lion backed down. I was afraid of him…but he was afraid of me. I ran into a room and a man was standing in there and he asked me whatwas going on. I bbegan to explain to him that a lion was on the loose. I told him to lock the door and let all the Windows down. He had closed one window and on his way close the other window…. when out of nowhere the lion came through the window to attack the man. The lion was not paying me any attention. So, I jump out of that same window and out of a back door. When I got outside it was a lady giving people a tour of the building. I yelled and warned them that a lion was out on the loose and we need to run to safety. I lead the people to a building that had locked doors…then I woke up. It was a strange dream. What does it mean?
Greatness – Anything moving toward you in a dream usually signifies that you are becoming more aware of it, feeling it more intensely. So being chased in a dream usually denotes that you are feeling something you fear more intensely and are trying to avoid confronting it. This is not usually a good policy, as you can never get away from yourself.
We are, in a real sense, pursued by what we have created with our thoughts, emotions, action and inaction. What we are avoiding might be anger, sexual feelings; responsibility; expressing what we really feel in public; our fear of death; sense of failure; guilt; emotional pain; childhood trauma; grief etc.
You wrote: “The weird thing was, when the lion got close to me and I turned around the lion backed down”.
So when you dared to face what was frightening you, you discovered that “It backed down and stopped chasing you”. Use that positive experience in your dream as a first step to create new ways of dealing with what you are afraid of.
It will take some time to change the old habit of running away for yourself, but now you know that you are capable of change.

I had a dream last night that I was a approached by a Tiger that then switched to a lion. I was calm and sat down while everyone was running and screaming The animal came to me and started purring it was very gently biting me. I would pet it and it would walk around me and rub up against me. It ran off and a jaguar did the same thing. I reacted the same as I did with the first cat. Can you tell me what any of this means.
🙂 Luna
I see the dream as a way of exploring different aspects of your inner life.
You start with allowing a tiger to approach you in your dream, which has a more feminine quality in your inner life than the lion.
See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/tiger-tigress/
Then you use your shape shifting abitlity to transform the tiger into a lion
http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/shapeshifter-or-shape-shifter/
In your dream you observe other parts of you who do not like to get in touch with the lion inside you – the people who were running and screaming.
I see the lion rubbing against you and gently biting you as a meeting of merely unconscious aspects of sexuality and relationships.
See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/animals-as-dream-figures/
Then you meet the jaguar; you certainly dare to explore 🙂
http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/jaguar/
I feel that it will be helpful for you to shift between “being the tiger, being the lion, and being the jaguar” so you can become aware what these different inner aspects feel like inside you

Last night I had a dream that I attempted to capture a lion. I then bit the lion in an attempt to show dominion over it. In the dream I believed that I needed the lion to accomplish some task. After biting the lion it pounced me (gently) and stared into my eyes, as if to say that it was in control but would willfully follow me.
Ebonie 🙂
The dream is an expression of a process we all have to go through.
I believe the start of the dream shows how your mammalian brain would deal with the dream situation;
you approached the lion as if you were a lion yourself.
Please read
http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/brain-levels-and-dreams/#mammalbrain
I am happily surprised to see that it did work in your dream. 🙂
Then you looked the lion into its eyes, because you are now aware of the inner strength you have and the lion will follow you, as in you will be able to manage this strenght, rather than that this strength manages you.
A beautiful inner growh process you went through in your dream.
Perhaps you are approaching a situation in which you will need your inner strength to deal with what life throws at you?
Good Luck!

I had a dream of a lioness constantly looking for a way to attack me but I kept trying to scare it from attacking . the dream was in my own house with my brother and mom in the vicinity but the lioness was only looking for a way to attack me .
Sunil 🙂
It will be helpful if you can try to uncover what you are afraid of.
I have to guess what the role is of your mother and your brother and so I wonder if you often feel unfairly treated by them?
Do you feel you are allowed to openly express your feelings with them?
Whatever it is, the approach you use in your dream is not helpful, for you cannot scare away your own fear.
I trust that reading this will give you a first hand in finding a better way:

Good Luck Sunil 🙂

I dreamt being in a house where the ain doors were not it. It was Lang glass typed does where they were not strong and old, the locks seems to be loose. I come downs stairs and I see a lioness trying to come in to our house. Our neighbour has. Beautiful daughter I see the Dad and daughter in that house playing in the hall with a little car (which is my sisters house according to the dream) so I quickly fasten the locks and try to lock all the doors all are glass doors. I then saw my sister husband opens the door and leaves it open I really get annoyed and I scolded him foe opening the door while lioness and peppers trying to walk in the house. I am telling my sister to do the doors asap. Then I saw my dad walking towards the house and a black panther is coming behind in quite a disstance.I tell my das to quickly come in. He alowly removes his shoes and by the timehe came in and I could close the door the panther puts ita head in. I manage to push it out, push the Head out and lock the doors.so I see leapords going around our home with cubs and am frighten they might come in. They anyways try to come in by pushing the doors. I then start locking all the doors and windows and as the doors arent fit I am looking for a way to escape. When I open a door my sister says it’s a shortcut to some place. When I open its a Hindu temple. A small connecting way to the Back side of the Hindu ttemple so I am planing that if these wild animals break in any time to attack us .to go to that temple and I see again the doors are open and I scold my sister to scold it. Am yelling everyone to close the doors but they don’t take it serious. And we are locking the downstairs and shifting to upsstairs
Amna – Dream animals are quite different to waking life animals. Whenever we dream its images are not like real life. because a dream is nothing like outer life where things could hurt you, but is an image like on a cinema screen that even if a gun is pointed at you and fired it can do no damage – except if you run in fear. So all the things that scare you are simply your own fears projected onto the screen of your sleeping mind.
Also the animals may be those you keep inside you – your own instinctive urges like fear, sex, anger, etc. See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/brain-levels-and-dreams/
Also it might help to face your fears by seeing http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/eight-step-method-to-manage-intense-emotion/
Tony
I remember one dream where I belonged with another family that kept old tanks and mechs in a storage building. After taking a nice long look at them, I was randomly teleported to an old house in a neiborhood and as soon as I looked outside an old door with a wired window, I saw a large black lion pacing back and fourth looking at me, as if waiting for me to open the door to pounce on me, I cannot remember what happened afterwards.
Hi
I was having a normal dream then all of a sudden I was in my house and a lioness was creeping across the road. I was immediately scared.
Then for some reason my ex ( father of my children, we don’t get along) was out the front. He started antagonising the lioness getting it too attack him. I was screaming through the fly screen trying to stop it. But he was laughing while it was lunging and biting him. It wasn’t trying to kill him. Just hurt him. The lioness looked at me, opened it’s mouth wide and made a roar at me and nudged the fly screen door. I growled back at it. The lioness then went after him again while he was still antagonising it. Then a man I don’t know rocked up and nudged it with his car and got out to help my ex. But my ex just kept proding the animal.
The whole time I was yelling or screaming I was terrified.
What does it mean.?
Email a reply please and thank you very much .
Samantha – It means that you are largely unaware of yourself as a lioness. See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/brain-levels-and-dreams/
Your dream says that you are scared of your own natural feelings of aggression and protection for your children. The dream clearly shows you first your fear, then you as a lioness being prodded and antagonised by your ex.
Your ex seems to be backed up by another man, but instead of being terrified you ought to let your anger actually loose instead of holding it back. I am not suggesting killing him like a real tigress that you are could easily do, but with your strength you could easily avoid being terrified or upset by him, just let out a warning huge growl now and then. You can vent your anger safely by using a rolled up newspaper and beat the hell out of the sofa, seeing it as him.
Tony
Hi! I had a dream last night I was a lioness roaming around what look to symbolize my yard and home with my cubs. Then the Lion came and we sought each other I didn’t feel fear in the dream but then I seen myself on my porch calling for my own children in the house because I didn’t want them to get hurt by the lions. I wasn’t scared of them being around them just didn’t naturally think it was safe. I seem to be one with the lions in the dream as we are in life but what did this dream represent in my real life? I have a new relationship in my life with a male and it’s been a long time since I fell in love what could this dream represent in my personal truths?
