Alien
This usually indicates urges or feelings you find difficult to identify with; feelings of being an outsider in a group or society. The alien can also depict something very new and previously not experienced in regard to your own potential or mind.
Frequently the alien in your dream represents aspects of your mind that have not previously been consciously experienced and so may seem frightening or difficult to understand. Considering that estimates suggest that we only use one tenth or less of our potential, it is not difficult to see that a large mass of our own inner functioning and experience are normally unknown and is called ‘the unconscious’. It is therefore not surprising that we have ‘aliens’ in our dreams and experience.
When some part of this unknown area of yourself emerges, or presses for attention, one may depict it as an alien. Quite often in dreams, or in UFO sightings, the meeting has a strong type of religious feelings. I believe, through investigating this experience, that feelings of awe and veneration often occur when fear is absent and we meet a vastly bigger intelligence or vision of life – even if it is our own unconscious content we are confronting.
While we sleep our conscious self is largely or totally unconscious, and while we dream our voluntary muscles are paralysed – therefore another will or motivating force moves our body. So we have a Conscious Will, and what I will call a Life Will. The first one we have experience of as we can move our arm or speak in everyday activities; but the second will takes over when we sleep. See Sleep Paralysis.
Life Will created your body and pre-existed you as a person you know today. It was working in you prior to your ability to speak or know in the way you do now. But of course it has fantastic wisdom and skills, as can be seen in animals. The human personality – the You that you call yourself, with a name, is only a tiny thing. It is moved and tossed around by all manner of drives, ambitions, emotions, fears, temptations, worries, love and desire with its pains and hopes; it is something we take so seriously and get carried away into awful situations; we take many sorts of pain killers to deal with ourselves.
But it is not usually realised that the whole phenomena of dreaming can occur while awake and you are in a receptive state of mind. Any visions, voices heard or hallucinations are all the product of the dream process breaking through the barrier that usually only allows such things while asleep. If you have had such an experience you will see, if you think about it, that as with dreams, images, people, voices appear as if outside you. That is exactly the work of dreams, which project a whole dream, its drama and characters, onto the screen of our sleeping mind. See Visionary for more information.
Because we are not used to knowing or seeing this wider and huge self our first feelings are that we are possessed by an alien being, or some dark shape or unknown creature. Remember that even while awake the Life will can control movements and thoughts. So any alien or strange thing that you experience needs to be treated like a dream.
That is not to say they are vague inconsequential fantasies, because they are attempts of your Core self – the ET of yourself – trying to communicate a much wider awareness of what you are. Yes, an ET. This Life will can move us to speak, to move our body, and in fact do things that we cannot do with our Conscious Will.
As Freud pointed out this inner will has full access to our memories. So much of our inner enormity is held back by the way we live and our cultural attitudes, that when it does press to emerge it might very well be depicted by our dream making process as an alien of a flying saucer. Nevertheless, often in dreams we feel the alien as an enemy or something to be frightened of. This is not correct, for this is like saying there is reason to fear oneself. In the short term this may be rational as some of our own urges may not be dealt with well, and so may be dangerous. But in the long term we can meet ourselves. See: Life’s Little Secrets; The Two Powers; Accept all that you Are.
Example: This morning I woke up and as I opened my eyes and sat up there was this alien creature there in front of me. I was amazed and felt wonder because it was real and solid and was trying to communicate with me. I felt so much love for this strange creature and its attempts to communicate even though I couldn’t understand what it was trying to say. Then suddenly a switch must have been tripped inside me and I understood and knew the alien. It was my wife, and she was saying, “Tony, turn over you’e snoring.” I must have been coming from a level where my language centre hadn’t yet been switched on and I was seeing my wife as a delightful alien. Example: I then tried to feel my way into the alien. Powerful feelings again – fear – anxiety. Part of it was the feeling engendered by my father’s death. Here one-day, gone the next! But then I got through to seeing and understanding, feeling the underlying alien. It was part that in me, or of me, that watches other people’s reactions to my emotions; watches without feelings, except for cynicism and plotting. But more than anything else, it is my fear of loss of self. I had been thinking of this lately. One loses self to enter the unification of all opposites. I had read this description in the fourth level of psychedelic experience. It was also the fear of being possessed by something “alien” such as I had felt about sex, about having no problems, about the Zen meditation, the void, the egolessness. Example: Taken from a TV interview. “I felt a strange feeling up my spine, like rush up my spine right up to the top of my head. Then I was in a meadow and there were aliens there, not the grey ones but slight and slightly see through. A female alien was holding her baby in front of her, and if I were religious I would have felt it was Mary and her baby.”
This last one has all the signs of an altered state of conscious experience. Also very much likea kundalini energy rush which leads to expanded awareness. The baby and mother is another sign or expanded awareness and so links her with an archetype of motherhood, so she feels in contact with the divine. Devoured by aliens: Forces, fears, neuroses, at work in you that use up your potential energy, and stand in the way of easy self expression.
Example: I had been told by a woman I used to work with, that I was to photograph a wedding near the Aldwych in London. I went there but there was no wedding. I was then in an underground series of tunnels, helping to paint the floor of the large rooms. Then someone killed the woman friend because she would not tell them the short cut through the tunnels. The short cut was then open and people were coming through to where I was painting. I looked to my right through the doors of the large room and saw strange alien type creatures. I felt a bit anxious. They were like skinless creatures. Now I was walking out of the town. It felt like the end of the world, or the end of society. I was walking through lots of churches standing on a hillside, surrounded by grass. They were of all types, strongly built but empty now. I walked past a married couple who were walking up the hill too. As I passed I heard them say something about a shepherd. Looking up the hill I saw the sheep, then The Shepherd. A beautiful aura of many colours surrounded The Shepherd. I looked and felt joy and exuberance rise in me, and I ran to the couple saying it was THE SHEPHERD. Peter M.
Although the drama in the dream does not present a clear and obvious story, the dream does have symbols of unity in the wedding, of the unconscious in the underground, of the previously unmet aspects of self in the aliens, then the meeting with the religious feeling in the Shepherd and Peters joy. The end of society and the empty churches were representative of the changes going on in Peter’s attitudes and understanding of himself in relation to his own mind and religion.
Example: I left the house and went to the church nearby. I opened a door on the left side of the church but shut it quickly because ‘something’ was there. Five or six priests came and knelt down at the front of the church. The Reverend from my local church started talking and I hurried out, not wanting to get involved in the service. I then went to the side of the church and opened the door where the ‘something’ was. I could now see what it was. It was a being from another planet, completely human, but with a furry body and tail. It had a son with it. I slammed the door because I was afraid, but the catch did not connect and the door opened again. I threw a book in for the aliens to read. They threw out a book for me to read. It had loose pages – like my ready reckoner. I put them in order and read the story and lived some of it. As I read some of the words were in alien symbols, but I could understand them. Gradually the book changed to alien words. I/it progressed. All the lines sloped down from left to right. Now the sky was like a vaulted or squared ceiling. The two aliens looked down from one of the open squares and called. There was an answering call from two others of their kind. I knew these were the only ones on our planet. I also knew that they had to completely be themselves. I wondered why, and they told me it was because their whole race was within them. Peter M.
This is a dream of Peter’s that occurred at later date and shows his religious feelings, the church, directly presenting him with something alien. This new experience is gradually seen as himself – ‘I now looked within myself and also began to see all of them within, and was becoming like one of them’. Not only is Peter accepting this aspect of himself more fully, thus not seeing it as completely alien, but also it presents him with a new type of awareness – a feeling of connection with all of his race. In fact Peter had been a loner and very independent, feeling disconnected from society as a whole. This massive change, with very deeply felt fears and joy, is depicted in the two dreams.
Useful Questions and Hints:
What is happening in my life that I don’t connect with, understand or feel is alien to me?
If I identify with the alien creature or thing, what feelings or facets of myself do I encounter?
Can I recognise from the dream the feelings or fears I use to avoid or meet with this alien facet of myself?

Hi tony! I wanted to ask you about my dream. It was my first time dreaming about this. I was with an alien in outer space, I was really happy, he was really kind and he offer me something to eat. It was like a metallic rectangle and he said it would heal me. (I am in a process of healing my ovaries with natural medicine) it was amazing because when I eat it, soon I experience wellbeing and my sacras dissapeared from my body. What do you think about this dream? Thanks a lot for your help!!!
Maria – Outer space in dreams suggests the realisation your personal experience is not all there is. In other words you are now becoming aware of a much larger world of experience.
Considering that estimates suggest that we are only aware one tenth or less of our mind, it is not difficult to see that a large mass of our own inner functioning and experience are normally unknown and is called ‘the unconscious’. It is therefore not surprising that we have ‘aliens’ in our dreams and experience. So, when some part of this unknown area of yourself emerges, or presses for attention, one may depict it as an alien.
There fore you have moved beyond the obvious in your life and are becoming aware of a much more wonderful experience of yourself and your body and what you can do with it.
The alien rectangle is a symbol of great healing and needs to be help in your awareness often – like meditating on it or better still becoming it https://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson

I had a very vivid dream about aliens. There were lots of people about doing manual tasks, lifting sacks of grain. They had been infected with alien parasites and they each had two protrusions of a claw like thing from either their head or hands. When people uninfected got close it would fly out and burrow into someone else. I was carefully avoiding them, no one else seemed to be aware of it. The sacks of grain the people with the hand infections were picking up were being burrowed into by the alien parasites when they were picked up. I kept avoiding being attacked and trying to help others. then as one of the things flew by my head too close someone whispered in my ear and I woke terrified.
In my waking life I am trying to find myself and the meaning of my life and people in it. I have a lot of time on my hands to do this as I am now living on my own in a new country. I would like some help and pointing in the right direction as I am sure this has significant meaning as it was so real.
I hope you can help me. I believe that dreams are important guides to our spiritual self, I am trying hard to understand this one.
Hi – The answers I give arise not out of me thinking up things to say, but from fifty years of exploring dreams in depth. So some of what I write may seem wild. This may be because dreams arise and are experienced by a level of your mind or awareness that very few people have any concept or experience of – usually called the unconscious. Life dreamt in its creatures millions of years before even humankind awoke and developed self awareness or language. So to understand dreams we need to leave our thinking minds behind and go into our feelings and reactions – a much older level of awareness.
But it would help you to understand your dreams, if you would read – http://dreamhawk.com/news/summing-up/ and also http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/features-found-on-site/ which has so much information in.
Nothing can replace your own ability to understand your dream. With a little effort you can do this by practising what is described in – http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPersonor http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/getting-at-your-dreams-meaning/
Tony
Angela – You are attempting one of the most important task of your life, and also a difficult one.
I hope you can see that the aliens in your dream do not come from space but are earthbound. But all the aliens in dreams I have met have all been invisible or unaccepted parts of myself. So I see your aliens as ideas and information you have picked up that like awful thoughts that are like parasites, sapping your energy.
So what is it that is I feel sapping my energy and resolve?
Fear that you are meeting things you cannot see or deal with can find your courage sapped, your independence maimed, and your energies drained by fear. Please read http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/masters-of-nightmares/
My suggestion is that you find out exactly what these creatures are. For all the people, animals, places you see in your dreams, are simply your own feelings, fears, hopes and wonder projected onto the screen of your sleeping mind as images. So, it makes sense to take the image of your dream person, thing or animal back into you and own it. In that way, you are meeting and dealing with the things about yourself you are not owning or conscious of.
Also whenever we dream its images are not like real life, because a dream is nothing like outer life where things could hurt you, but is an image like on a cinema screen that even if a gun is pointed at you and fired it can do no damage – except if you run in fear. So all the things that scare you are simply your own fears projected onto the screen of your sleeping mind.
So please use http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson
Thank you Tony.
Yes I do have feelings about people and projects that are sapping my energy levels. I will look through the links you posted which I’ve not yet read. I have read some of them.
Some of these issues I do not have the courage to act on or know how to deal with so I will do my best to use your resources to get to the bottom of it.
Angela – I don’t know if it helps, but here is something just added to Summing Up –
Because dreams are a great and living mirror, which constantly shows your fears, your beliefs, your ideas and even your genius and wonder as the events, drama and people expressing all you hold inside you – even bits you avoid knowing consciously. It is like looking into the magic mirror of dreams seeing all of you – your wisdom and beauty as well as the devils and demons you create through your fears of them.
Example: Facing my adversary and becoming lucid in the dream, I allowed the adversary to kill me with a sword, knowing all the while that absolutely no harm could come from this experience. Fully lucid and looking at my dream attacker I said: “You can plunge the sword through me if you wish,” whereupon my adversary did just that. Then I drew the sword out of my dream body and very lovingly and wisely gave it back to the adversary and said: “Thank you.”
Example: But then the terrible creature dived into me to devour me from within. The only way that I felt I might deal with the creature was to have the meditative state of holding on to the nothingness that was my centre, and not feeling panic at it’s attacks. In fact apart from the gory imagery, there was nothing to be frightened of, as the creature was only attacking my dream image of myself. As I wasn’t identified with this, it couldn’t hurt me. That was the end of the dream.
But when we dream its images are not like real life, because a dream is nothing like outer life where things could hurt you, but is an image like on a cinema screen that even if a gun is pointed at you and fired it can do no damage – except if you run in fear. So all the things that scare you are simply your own fears projected onto the screen of your sleeping mind.
I have had a very strange dream but couldn’t find the meaning. In the dream I was in a town near mountains. The president there was mean like President Snow from The Hunger Games, but he treated the town well. My good friend in the dream had went into the mountains with a diamond. He was then found by an alien who tried to kill him and he lost the diamond. A group of people was sent to find it. All of which were my best friends. The alien popped out later on and chased them killing one. A male friend of mine. I could tell by their voice. He was screaming in pain and agony as the alien brought him into a cave and killed him. After that I woke up. I never found out who had been caught or wether or not the diamond had been found. What does this dream mean?
I have a recurring nightmare where I find an old box with like an old game in it. like a game of skill or something? Except inside the box is actually an alien creature that looks like a sea urchin. And it will keep consuming the matter around it and keep expanding forever unless I keep smashing its delicate organs, and then it heals and reforms and I have to do it again. But it keeps whispering to me that I should just give up. In the end I managed to kill it by holding it up to a mirror and smashing it, which terrified me because it worked but I didn’t know why. Thank you so much for writing this article; if you could give me any insight into my dream I would really appreciate it.

Hello, I had this dream on 8/15. Any help decoding it would be greatly appreciated.
First, flying saucer hovering over. Then I could see a body or two going up the tube, looked very animated or cg1.
Various alien space crafts could be seen in the sky after.
I shut my blinds, attempted to turn off my lights but they would come back on again. I crawled under the window sill.
When I heard a knock at the door, and looked up out the window and seen a very evil looking woman, similar to Barbra bush. Then I open the door to a young woman and a team of people. The young woman immediately grabs my wrist and begins pulling me outside, saying im going to be your “assistant” today, I resist and pull back saying “I do not need an assistant”. I plead with her and the group, saying please it’s just me here, you have plenty of people here in this neighborhood who will be willing to go with you, but this is my home. And the woman was listening to me, then they decided to leave. On the way out I shook the woman hand, and said “God bless you”.
Dear Elvin – Please also read http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/ufo/
What your dream reflects is your initial resistance towards becoming aware of something new, or some new aspect of yourself, one that you are not familiar with, and so seems strange or alien;
“I shut my blinds, attempted to turn off my lights but they would come back on again. I crawled under the window sill.”
When you dare to open the door to this new aspect, you see that your inner woman has been transformed from “a very evil looking woman, similar to Barbra bush” into a young woman.
She is willing to be your “assistant” and it would be interesting to explore in what way she can assist you; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson
When you explore the qualities of your inner woman you can make a conscious decision whether to accept her assistance or reject it.
Physically a man is predominantly male, but also has nipples and produces some female hormones. Psychologically, we may only express part of our potential in everyday life. In a man, the more feeling and caring side may be given less expression. Apart from this some functions, such as intuition and unconscious creativity may also be held in latency. These secondary or latent characteristics are depicted by the female in male dreams; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/archetype-of-the-anima-jungs-view-of-the-female-in-the-male/
Resistance may also be in the form of not wanting to change; feeling threatened by fresh views of life or any questioning of the values you have long lived by. To free yourself from such resistances needs a positive motivation and the learning of new psychological and even physical skills, as presented in http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/opening-to-life/

Ok so I had a dream me and kids were inthe house watched space ships land and then sucked everything out of the house it took everything for the spouse n I to stay inside of this tiny closet with 4 kids.. I’m single fyi. It felt like I have had this dream before but it wasn’t as deep of interaction. Can u explain this ?
I dreamed with aliens no gender they just were and i knew them! I wasnt scare of them, they gave me instructions i could not refuse even if i knew it was wrong part of me knew and understood i had to do&follow. there was no talking we just had our way of communication weird, i was given a box with special mask that had clean air for me and my family but i could not tell anyone either way if i did there was no hope or salvation there was an adamant planned attack on the air we breath and people will just go down no suffering for the innocent however i do recall a few bleeding. part of me was like i have always known this would happen and yet my other self my soul heart was distraught and in horrific pain, everything felt so real i had to wake up once i did it seemed like i had actually been gone or away someplace else . it is not he first time i dream of creepy stuff i get a lil scare i sometimes dream things that come true or close to it. anyhow i had to vent to someone who does not know me i dont want to seem like I AM CRAZY i know is a dream
Dear Nere – What you have created in your dream I see as a reflection of an inner conflict that is dramatized and projected on the screen of your sleeping mind; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/drama-2/
The aliens symbolise your negative urges and feelings that still manage you – probably because they are still unconscious – instead of you learning to manage them.
Your dream reflects that when these urges take over, you have a “killing” and painful influence on other aspects of your selves and probably also on other people. The special mask you wear – http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/mask/ – reflects merely a belief that you can get away with this without getting hurt yourself too.
Your dream shows that this belief is an illusion; “yet my other self my soul heart was distraught and in horrific pain”.
I believe that your dream reflects your relationship with what is called an autonomous complex; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/autonomous-complex/
In Carl Jung’s theory, complexes may be conscious, partly conscious, or unconscious. Complexes can be positive or negative, resulting in good or bad consequences.
Some complexes usurp power from the ego – “they gave me instructions I could not refuse” – and can cause psychological disturbance. With intervention, it may become conscious and greatly reduced in their impact.
When you may decide to learn to manage these urges, the intervention might come from your role as an observer; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/self-observation/
Having experimented with different approaches to learn to deal with an autonomous complex, I have learned that being in the observer mode is the most helpful approach.
Observing then means that you become aware of what is going in in your inner world of charged negative feelings without judging yourself AND without acting on it. You just look and wait.
This in itself may produce the change you desire.
Anna 🙂
Hi, excellent insights. I have spent quite a bit of the last few weeks really focusing on creating my life to be more how I want it to be and feel I have been making good progress. this morning I dreamt i was having my head shaved, by someone I know but cannot recall. When the job was done she/he saw that I had quite a prominent crest of bone at the back of my head, and the round part of my skull was covered in deep furrows, which are actually there in reality. (the furrows not the crest!) I was only slightly disturbed/amazed at the sight, and saw that I was quite youthful and handsome, which was pleasing, as I am not quite so anymore. I also felt, looking in the mirror, that “now everyone will see” who I am, and I was very satisfied with that feeling. I cast a hexagram to inquire on the dream, and received number 19, lin, coming together, with lines 2 and 5 changing. I wonder if you had the time, would you consider shining some light on this? I only vaguely see the meaning of “coming together”. such an interesting time! thank you in advance.
Dear Joe – The way I see it is that this “coming together” is about what is happening in your inner world and it might help to step into the role of observer to “see” it; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/self-observation/
If you identify (too much) with the youthful and handsome part in you, you might miss the awareness of the part that is “pushed out of sight”.

I feel it will be helpful to use http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson to explore this prominent crest of bone at the back of your head. (the figurative meaning of “backbone”?)
Anna 🙂
Very interesting. check out my website. I am 9 years old ad I have started a charity.
I had this weird dream where I had a relationship with a alien female, I had “feelings” for “her.” Even as I awoke I felt it with some of the feeling left. I have had a few questionable dreams in the past which connect exactly to this one. However this dream I couldn’t move, I could feel look around, but not move, I was a “prisoner” if you will. Every once in a while this female would come by and speak to me, not in a language I could understand. I wasn’t alone there were others infront of me, I could make out facial features and body characteristics, however I didn’t know these people they were as I was, stuck. I was then laid down and blacked out. Soon after I woke up. There is more to this/these dreams but I can’t make sense of them to write and put them in order, but I could if asked. Sorry if I’m over the place feel free to email me anytime I really need to make sense of this, personally.
I was dreaming that an alien beam went into my mind and somehow I was transported to another world. I found a female there.. They were humanoid and beautiful but only lived14 months.. I stayed with her till her days ended and when I awoke today I had a feeling of great loss and longing. I actually really miss her and feel like part of me is gone.
Stefan – Sorry it took so long to answer your post.
The alien beam is a contact with a power you have within you that you do not recognise and so see as alien. See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/alien/
You also met the female half of you that is of course beautiful. In a dream we are in a completely different state of mind and are aware of an enormous more than in waking life. You were in a state if expanded awareness and such things fade as we come out of our dreams, so the feeling is lost.
You can never actually lose anything that you dream of – but you can lose the expanded awareness. You may be able to reclaim her is you use http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson and be the beautiful alien creature.
Tony
Just awoke from a vivid dream of a very classic-feeling first stage attack on a city by flying saucer. It felt very Hollywood-disaster-flick as I was clamoring to get out of the crumbling building. Aside from the clarity I felt in this dream, I also felt like I’d done it twice through: once as an observer from another building, and again much more intimately as I actually felt the alien beam take hold of my shoulder.
I thank you very much, Tony Crisp, for this article. I will continue questioning what influences my conscious mind.
I dreamed once that I was strapped down to a bed. It seemed to be in a clean, sterile environment. I did not know where I was, or any or the people I was with. I made the assumption that they were doctors or people of science. There were about 5 of them. I was freaking out, but they just kept telling me to be calm. All of a sudden I knew I was going to be sacrificed to an alien. I was going to be given as a human sacrifice. I saw into the future as the knife cut through my abdomen and internal organs. I saw my blood flowing out of me. Then I was back in the “present” still strapped to the bed. I looked up as I saw the alien walk in. He was incredibly tall, maybe 8 or 9 feet, with dark green frog like skin. I looked at him and woke up so petrified I could not move for a full minute. I have no clue what this could have meant.
