The House In Your Dream

When you dream of a house, you are meeting a hugely important and many sided representation of yourself. It is both many faceted and multidimensional.

Although you cannot see it, your mind, along with your beliefs, has a particular structure or form. If the shape of your mind could be built into a three dimensional model, such as a house, you would probably be able to see that your mind has as unique a shape as your fingerprints. But at the same time there would be features of your mental ‘house’ that were very much the same as most of the people within your own culture. If there were a museum of the mind you would see in it that the human mind has altered its shape in an evolutionary fashion just as the human body has. The model of minds of even a few centuries ago would have a much larger area devoted to religious feelings and thoughts. The area dealing with personal identity would be much larger in the modern mind.

Each dream image holds enormous data, emotional response, and created patterns of behaviour. So in considering the house in your dream you need to remember you are in touch with a full surround databank of fantastic information about you, your past and your possibilities. You can interact with this information by exploring it in the right way. And to help with this let us look at and question some of the possibilities your dream house might hold. See Techniques for Exploring your Dreams

For instance how old do you feel the house is – and in stating its age, does that connect in any way with your own age and time of birth? If so how?

If the age differs from your own age, what period of time or your life does it coincide with and what relevance has that to you? The style of the house may also suggest something of your attitude to life. As you explore the house in general look for connections to any aspect or period of your life.

Does the house seem to be much older than you are? If so what are your impressions of it and what it contains? What is your relationship with it and are you searching for or finding something in it? Or perhaps this is about an event, a relationship, or an influence you can feel in connection with the house. Try to define the influence or whatever you experience, and see if you can notice how that is active or influencing your current life. If the age differs from your own age, what period of time or your life does it coincide with and what relevance has that to you?

If this is an old house and you gain entrance to new areas, you need to ask yourself what influences from the past – perhaps the long past – are emerging in you at the moment.

Is it a strong house, or are there weaknesses; and what style of house is it? In other words what does the dream house suggest about those things?

If possible write down your response to these questions so you build up information as we go along. For instance any weakness in the house needs to be seen as difficulties you have and of course strengths as signs of ability to cope with life

Is it a strong house, or are there weaknesses?  What is the condition of the house, its state of repair?

Is the house well built or weak in some areas. If weak what areas and what can you gather from that? If it is well built, does it reflect any particular skills or strengths you have and does your personality and inner life reflect those skills or lack of them?

Any weakness in the house may represent difficulties you are facing – and of course strengths are signs of your ability to cope with life. Does this link in any way with either your health, or the condition of your inner or outer life? What is it saying about you?

Is it a house you have never known before – a house new to you?

This is a situation you have not known before, an experience new to you. So it could represent a different way of seeing or relating to yourself.

In the dream how are you relating to the house?

Are you arriving, leaving, repairing it, pulling it down, exploring it? Whatever you are doing, or in whatever way you are relating to the house, what does that suggest about what you are doing to your body, your personality, or your way of life? For instance if leaving, are you leaving a way of life behind? If renovating, what attitudes or part of you are you changing?

If the house is weak in some areas, examine these areas to see what you can gather from them.  If it is well built, does it reflect any particular skills or strengths you have and does your personality and inner life reflect those skills or lack of them? Is the house showing you some aspect of your life that is calling out for attention/maintenance/repair?

Is this a house you once lived in, or does it remind you of such a house or dwelling?

If so what was your way of life in that house? What happened to you there – were you going through puberty; were you in or leaving a relationship; was success or failure experienced there; was it a move to achievement or independence? Whatever you remember or define about it, how is that relevant now and in what way is it active in your life?

Also, what was the environment or atmosphere like in that house? Sometimes it is easier to see this looking back as you are often too immersed at the time, so take time to describe it to yourself.

In the dream how are you relating to the house? Are you arriving, leaving, repairing it, pulling it down, or exploring it?

Whatever you are doing, or in whatever way you are relating to the house, what does that suggest about what you are doing to your body, your personality, or your way of life? For instance if leaving, are you leaving a way of life behind? If renovating, what attitudes or part of you are you changing?

Does the house give you an impression of great age?

Is it older than you are? If so what are your impressions of it and what it contains? What is your relationship with it and are you searching for or finding something in it? Or perhaps this is about an event, a relationship, or an influence you can feel in connection with the house. Try to define the influence or whatever you experience, and see if you can notice how that is active or influencing your current life.

Does this house belong to somebody else and how are you relating to this house?

Are you entering or leaving this house? Sometimes such a house can suggest your relationship with someone else. If not that then a new or different way of or situation in life. So can you connect with any of those suggestions, and if so in what way?

Consider how you are relating to this house, your movements and feelings here. Are you comfortable here, are there aspects of the house that you would like to change? Is the house familiar, or are you drawn to explore further? What feelings does it evoke? Are you coming or going? Sometimes such a house can represent a new or different way of living or situation in life.

What social status does the house suggest?

Do the surroundings of the house suggest wealth, poverty or some level of social status? If so try to define it and how you relate to it now or in the past.

Has a new area of the house been discovered?

If so what is in it? What atmosphere or feelings does it arouse? What do you find, feel or discover in this new area? In what way does this reflect discovery of new attitudes, talents or self discovery in yourself.

If this is an old house and you gain entrance to new areas, you need to ask yourself what influences from the past – perhaps the long past – are emerging in you at the moment.

Now see if you can summarise your responses to see what they suggest of the things you are meeting, feeling or growing into at the moment.

Is this a house you once lived in, or knew well?

If so what was your way of life in that house? What happened to you there? – were you going through puberty; were you in or leaving a relationship; was success or failure experienced there; was it a move to or achievement of independence? Whatever you remember or define about it, how is that relevant now and in what way is it active in your life?

Also, what was the environment or atmosphere like in that house? What feelings does it evoke in you now? Sometimes it is easier to see this looking back as you are often too immersed at the time, so take time to describe it to yourself.

Was a ghost involved in the dream?

This usually about something that happened there, or a childood event that caused fear, and the memory is still hauntung you. See if you can feel the feelings and ask yourself what caused them.

Now see if you can summarise your responses to see what they suggest of the things you are meeting, feeling or growing into at the moment.

I keep having the same dream over and over again.
I am in my parents’house and in my room there is a locked away storage room. In the storage room there is another smaller door whete the house is located. It is built in the style of an attick. Once you enter thete is this huge living room . The settings is like really comfortable , with couches and even a fireplace but the thing that bothers me the most are the walls.
They are all white and it makes me feel anxious. Then there are two staircases. From the one staircase there is a single room that its layout is really weird. The floor wiyh the bed and the closet is over the other floor of the other part of the room .The walls are white and there is a big window on the other side. It is open and it has the view if flowers anda beautiful clear, blue sky. It makes me feel at home.
There is another room . It is separated from the rest of the house and it only has a bed on it. In my latest dream the entire room was made if wood and thete were about five small windows around it. They were all shut tight and generally the room makes feel really scared. There is nothing inside it though and it us all empty. In the past it was also another room more comfortable with white walls but it has changed.
The entrance and the placement of the storage room is changing too. It has moved from.my room to the ceiling of the living room (of my parents house).
The door this time was nearly non existed. It was just an opening that you had to crawl to enter to the actual storage room . It is a pretty dark storage room and the only thing that gives me comfort is the lamp light.
The thing that always gets me though is that in the storage room thete is another door which I am too scated of and have never opened befaure. Once in my dream I sked my mom about it and she said that thete is nothing but bricks inside it. Yet That door freaks me out and seems to scate me continously whenever I see it in my dreams.
I honesyly thanm you in afvance in case you choose to interpet my dream. If not it is okay .
; )

Dear Theodora – Your dreams may recur because you have not sufficiently dealt with becoming emotionally and mentally independent from your parents and with opening up to your own potential; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/potential/
Our growth instinct is incredible powerful and pushes us through growth and this can cause recurring dreams.
A recurring environment in a dream where the other factors change is not the same. We use the same words over and over in speech, yet each sentence may be different. The environment or character represents a particular aspect of oneself, but the different events that surround it show it in the changing process of our psychological growth and experience. Where there is no such change it suggests an area of your mental emotional self is stuck in a habitual feeling state or response.
    So let’s have a look at your first dream;
The storage room – http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/storeroom/ – is a symbol for your potential; for all that is part of your unconscious mind and that is waiting for you to be explored.
The smaller door may indicate that entering this room is like entering your child self; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/child/
Because bricks are mentioned in another dream too, I feel it is important to explore your fear for the white walls.
You could also explore if you have mixed up cause and effect; fear can also create brick walls.
Many dreams show that brick walls are powerful blocks we find it hard to pass through or deal with. Sometimes they represent attitudes of mind that need changing, or even lack of information or some situation that we do not understand and so are lost in.
Bricks can mean small, individual thoughts, ideas, or hardened attitudes we form. (Hardened attitudes may also be expressed in; “In my latest dream the entire room was made of wood.)
To “unblock” you could practice http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/opening-to-life/
We often build ourselves one brick or thought at a time. Bricks can imply the hard shell of defences and resistances against change, and the walls we build; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/defence-mechanisms/
To explore the walls and the bricks you can use http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson
You reach a point where you realise that inner growth or flowering is actually something you feel at home with.
So it will serve a purpose to explore which beliefs and ideas you may have absorbed from your mother that may not reflect your own inner being; “Once in my dream I told my mom about it and she said that there is nothing but bricks inside it.”
    See also http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/mother-mum-ma/#InnerMother
Our dreams can graphically illustrate our beliefs and what influence they have upon our decision making, responses and relationships. The importance lies in the fact that many of our beliefs are unconscious. They were absorbed in childhood and often remain without any conscious evaluation. Dreams also tend to explore where such beliefs lead us, and what the outcome of holding them may be in certain circumstances.
    Sorting out these beliefs is part of the process of becoming independent from your parents;
    http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/individuation/
In order to practice moving beyond your fear for opening a door (opening up your mind) you can use http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/secrets-power-dreaming/
I trust this will give you a start and please let me know if you have any questions.

I had a dream that I was in the house I grew up in (untill I was 11 then my parents divorced) and I was searching and exploring it. I felt like I was 16 or 17 in the dream. My dad was the only one living there and his fiancé just left him (he was engaged to someone later in life not in this house and he left her so it was the other way around) There was a somber dark atmosphere about the house and a feeling of hopelessness I couldn’t wait to get out. I saw my old room and I looked inside and it was updated and changed. I assumed by the fiancé. My clothes and things looked orderly and there was a fireplace in the corner that wasn’t there before. There were some Halloween costumes hung up by it ( some that I own now ) I curiously looked into the hole of the fireplace and saw it went all the way up. In another room I think I saw my two small dogs (they are my dogs now presently not growing up) were locked In a tight cage for it felt like to long and I didn’t know If they were alive. I felt extremely sad and upset and let them both out gave them food and we all ran outside. There was an old angry wolf like dog outside that I guessed was my dads and he was sick and kicking about. I just stayed away from him and kept playing with my dogs. My dad announced that he was moving to Iceland so I should get everything I need. (This never happened in real life) I felt sorry for him and worried if he would be ok. As I walked out the front door with some bags my mom and my sister were standing there and my sister was crying. She said “dad choked me again” I felt so angry I went back up to the door and when my dad answered I choked him untill he fell and said “that’s for hurting my sister.” After this I woke – up gasping for air.

Dear Elle – What you are exploring in your dream is how your past still affects your current state of mind and how you may have already managed to free yourself of some of the ways it was holding you in its grip.
In your dream all the symbols reveal some aspect of your inner world; so the house, your father, his fiancée, the dogs, the wolf etc. are all you.
    See also http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/father-dad/#InnerFather
Your father’s fiancée leaving him may reflect your decision to not want to fill in the (emotional) void anymore that was left in your father after your parents divorced.
This decision enabled you to update, change and order your inner Life.
What does your dream figure think/feel about the fireplace in her old room?
    See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson
What you see when you look up in the hole of the fireplace may reflect the possibility of freeing yourself from other emotional obstructions too; “I curiously looked into the hole of the fireplace and saw it went all the way up.”
    See http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/opening-to-life/
This idea can also be seen in the “Halloween costumes hung up by it”, as they represent the dropping of social or moral restraints.
Once you realise that you can do it, you free your inner dogs from the tight cage and while expressing your sadness, you learn that allowing and releasing these feelings frees the way to become playful (again).
While in your dream this part of the process is reflected in a few sentences, it is good to realise that in your waking life it will take some more linear time; http://dreamhawk.com/body-and-mind/peoples-experiences-of-lifestream/
The old, angry wolf like dog is probably a symbol for feelings that need to be expressed too and so ignoring them may not work.
    See also “ice-land”; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/ice/
This is also reflected by “dad choked me again”; a symbol for Life or energy being cut off by repression.
Emotions can be held back in the neck, so it might be feelings about someone living or dead that you are holding back.
    Anna 🙂

-Aisha 2016-07-18 12:16:39

Hello,

Thank you for taking the tine to help us with understanding our dreams.

I woke up in an empty, unkown apartment. It was about 3 bedrooms, white walls and was bright since it was morning and there were no shades. There was a small terrier dog tied to a leash and it would bark ocassionally. I was going into each room trying to turn on the lights but there was no electricity. I felt lost, disoriented. I did not recognize the dog nor this apartment. It looked renovated and like it would cost 1-1,200 dollars a month in rent, but was completely empty.

Do you know what any of this means?

Thank you.

    -Anna - Tony's Assistant 2016-07-23 8:54:55

Dear Aisha – You are welcome!
What I see in your dream is that you can wake up – become aware of – a state of mind that is new to you and that reflects more of your potential.
The dream also reflects that leaving your old life behind – outgrown habits and old attitudes – will be perceived at first as feeling lost and disoriented; it is part of the process.
    See also http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/habits/
You become aware that there is no electricity in the house yet and to understand the symbol of electricity you can read http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/energy-sex-and-dreams/
Why there is no electricity yet – or flow of Life within you – can be seen in the symbol of the dog tied to a leash.
This may express how you are holding back or restraining parts of yourself.
There is a way to allow Life again to flow freely; http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/opening-to-life/

In my dream me, my mother & my sister are returning home from a trip, i currently live with 7 people, my father and grandfather have passed away so it’s me, my mom, my sister, my uncle, his wife, his child and my grandmother. My mom and dad have never gotten along with my aunts or grandmothers sides of the family. In the dream I come home and I realise that my house is weak and its aura is negative. Litter when later someone tells me that my house has been taken over by so and so, I become furious and go to talk to my grandmother. At this point I see my fathers sister and her two kids reading some religious text fanatically -I am not an extremely religious person, but I do practice and believe in my religion, same goes for my mother and sister- I ask my grandmother what is going on and she tells me, they are just guests, to which I say such guests are not welcome here, they have no right over us or our house and they need to leave. The scene changes and I now know that these people are religious extremists who will harm us if we don’t follow them, they have fired our cool who has been with us for 30+ years and is a member of our family now. I go and ask my aunt and uncle if there ok and they are completely fine with this change, worried but fine. Later i go and see my dog who had completely changed and become extremely violent, I try to calm him down which works. Me and my aunts kids sneak in food and drinks and later all the females is stilling in my room reading holy text. It is when I realise one of the ladies is my aunts aunt. And the men down stairs are also her relatives, who I dislike. They seem tired but not completely defeated. My house is one thing I’ll fight for no matter what. My family’s safety is my only priority and dreams like this make me mad.

-Corrie 2016-06-06 2:31:47

I keep having a dream of the same house that I have never been to or actually exists but in my dream it’s either my exes parents old house or my parents old house just away from the one they actually live in. It’s an older house but has all of the qualities I’d want in a home. The thing that always gets me though is that the back of the house is off this big hill and it’s covered with beautiful flowers and a fire pit and I am always wanting to move into this house in my dreams. Same house everytime
And I’m drawn to it. Can you tell me why?

-Lindsay 2016-06-04 14:58:09

Hi I have had this dream sporadically throughout my early adult life. It’s always a house but a very visually different house each time, but to me its always home & it was my grandmothers house in the dreams. I remember one of the first times i had the dream it was like an old run down American haunted house both inside & out. I found a secret part of the house that no one knew about & it was terrifying. It was through a secret entrance & I was so scared I vowed never to go there again. I had the similar dream again a few times, one most vividly & I had moved in & began decorating until about 6 months ago when I had the dream again. this time I was living in it & it was an apartment with massive steps climbing up to it. The steps lead into a busy casino & my apartment was above it. The decor was modern & not scary anymore but anyone from the casino could have accessed my Appartment. I remember making reference to the secret part of the house again & I wouldn’t go there. I have just woken up & had the dream again but this time the house main entrance is the same as my current apartment but inside it was huge & it’s been totally redecorated. It looked beautiful. Also this time i was showing my uncle around the house, I don’t really get along with my uncle so this is odd. The house was colourful & bright & the grounds were stunning. I also had a friend of my aunt staying with me, she was an alcoholic & causing some problems but I was dealing with her ok. Also very randomly there was a massive owl living in a part of the house that had been done up and it done the toilet on my arm!! I did make reference in the dream to the scary part of the house and told my uncle about it but I didn’t see that part of the house in my dream. Any reasons why you think I have this dream would be great. I woke up today with a really strong feeling of peace & joy at the state of the house & wonder what the symbolism of it all is. Lindsay xx

-Fran W 2016-05-05 1:35:30

I very rarely have uncontrolled symbolic dreams (I am usually an episodic lucid dreamer), so when I have a symbolic dream it makes a huge impact.

I have had three similar symbolic dreams in the space of about three months (the only symbolic dreams I have had in that time frame).

Dream 1: I have purchased a 1930’s Hollywood bungalow. It is cute and homey but it needs some work and is not ready to move into.

The kitchen is green with black and white tile, there is a small doorway with a plastic curtain, which I assumed went to a pantry.

I couldn’t find the bathroom so I eventually moved the curtain and found a laundry room, very modern and brand new with washer and dryer, that was a complete surprise. The bathroom ended up being through the laundry room, but the bathroom was a total wreak, absolutely unusable. I had plans to remodel the bathroom but it was in worse shape than I thought and was annoyed (even though I was blown away by the surprize laundry room).

I was not able to move in before I woke up because a relative of the previous owner kept letting himself in to do his laundry and I was trying to figure out a way to secure the house.

The house was very similar to a house a highschool friend lived in; she was a terribly needy manipulative friend, her family were all creative types and the house was a manic mishmash of never ending art projects. Our friend ship spectacularly imploded and she remains one of the most toxic people I have ever had the misfortune to encounter.

Dream 2: I have purchased a 1970s rambler/ranch house that is a bit rough but has a lot of potential to be a great home, in a very classic California beach living way. The house belonged to an elderly couple and it is chock full of their stuff. I am overwhelmed by the tacky cheap knickknacks and the fact that the family who sold the house is treating this stuff, plastic macramé and cardboard needlepoints, as heirloom quality estate items. I am being forced to sell them (more trouble than its worth) instead of throwing the whole lot away.

The bathroom is in terrible shape and is totally unusable and in worse shape than I expected, I planned on remodeling but I am still annoyed. There is a room off the aide of a screened in porch that turns out to be a brand new laundry room, complete with sleek modern washer and dryer.

I cannot move in before I wake up because the neighbors keep getting into the house to do their laundry and I am trying to figure out a way to keep them out.

The house is vaguely reminiscent of my grandparents house (on my mom’s side) that was always uncomfortable to visit (imagine nothing but prune juice or water to drink and plastic on the couch); people who I was never close with despite them.being closely related. Awkward, stilted, censored conversation and a deep sense of displacement.

Dream 3: I have purchased a house that was transitionally zoned and operated as a bookstore. It is still full of books and bookshelves (I love the bookshelves, they are wood built ins and I have a lot of my own books ready to move in). The majority of the books are awful and I plan on having a side walk sale or donating then to charity. There is a restaurant caddy corner on the property that I also own (with the purchase of the bookstore) but I do not operate the restaurant.

The bathroom is public restroom style, with excessive wear and tear compared to the rest of the house and does not have a shower or tub; it has a limited functionality and I plan on remodeling. Strangely enough, instead of a second bathroom (binary gendered) there is a fantastic laundry room (total surprize) with a new, modern washer and dryer.

I want to move in but people keep showing up, trying to buy books (and I keep getting shipments of books so I am essentially still selling books just trying to get rid of them) and people from the restaurant keep getting in to wash the restaurants laundry (tablecloths, napkins, aprons) in my laundry room and I am trying to figure out a way to keep these people out.

The house reminds me of working at Waldenbooks in my early 20s; peddling crappy paperbacks to ignorant savages in a failing mall in BFE. My co workers were a strange combination of caustic, neurotic and just plain deviant. The job was monotonous and boring to the extreme. I love bookstores but I absolutely hated working there; the epitome of “never again”.

What the heck brain!?! No bathroom but an awesome surprise laundry room that I can’t use because it is being used by strangers! Three houses that at first glance seem unremarkable but are constructs based off negative memories of poor feelings of self worth; I have every intention of fixing the situation but strangers keep getting in the way!

I was medically retired from the military with 100% disability a year ago, not happy about having a chronic illness but I am generally positive. I had ankle surgery and am having a hard time walking again.

I have plans to go to school (MGI bill, whoo hoo), I want to pursue a double major in molecular biology and quantum physics (I am confident I can handle the workload) but I am worried about my physical limitations and difficulty with commuting/ getting to school.

I am fairly young (34) but my medicine making my hair turn white, eyebrows, body hair, head hair……..it makes me feel washed out and run down but I don’t do well with hair dye…..I am having a hard time embracing the physical change.

Trying to muddle through on my own, what a mess….I need to wrap up this “gap year” and just suck it up……

I suppose……still trying to get to the bottom of this….

    -Anna - Tony's Assistant 2016-05-09 12:52:58

Dear Fran W – Thank you for sharing your dream and for expressing your thoughts and feelings.
You wrote “I very rarely have uncontrolled symbolic dreams (I am usually an episodic lucid dreamer)” and “Trying to muddle through on my own, what a mess…. “
Does that mean that you are always in control with your conscious self when you are lucid dreaming or do you dare to surrender to the “Life Will” or your Self?
Our conscious self or ego is only a tiny part of our totality, as is obvious when we consider how much of our memory or experience we can hold in mind at any one time. The Self, as defined by Jung, is both what we are consciously aware of, and the massive experience and potential remaining unconscious. That potential is not simply our own personal memories, but also areas of possibility beyond what we usually think of as our personal self. The Self has no known boundaries, for we do not yet know the end of what the mind is capable of, or what consciousness is, or touches, out of sight of waking.
    See http://dreamhawk.com/inner-life/lucid-dreaming/ and http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/opening-to-life/
What I see reflected in your three dreams is that you are aware of the need to do another step in your inner work; working on a level which runs deeper than cleaning up your attitudes.
Sorting out whatever inner programs you are still influenced by – deciding what to keep and what to let go of – can be part of opening to Life.
This approach will also mean that you let go of the stories that you identify with; stories that you believe are a reflection of you but in reality have little to do with who or What you are; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/identification-and-identity/
This is not an easy path, but I and many others have experienced over and over again that once you let Life be in charge, there is inner help available too; Life will go with you every step on the way!

I dreamt coming to this house 2 times. The first time I dream about the house is when were having a roadtrip with my friends, then we enter the house beacuse there’s a funeral. Idk why we enter, we dont even know the owner of the house (its a middle aged woman) but we still enter. We roam around then I came to the attic. There a family there. Idk whats there relationship with the owner, but they live there. The second time, which was today. Were still having a roadtrip. The difference is, the owner of the house, which is the middle aged woman was alive. Ang she has this kind of thing in her skin, that is gross. I was found myself going to the attic again. The owner was taliking to the family who lived there. Then she looked at me. And I feel something that poked my feet one time. I quickly elopened my eyes. Its funny how I remember every detail, and wake up when there something poked my feet. I just want to shate this. This dream is so weird. I feel like I have a connection with that woman. Idk why.

-Renata 2016-05-02 3:34:34

I dreamed I had to go to my old apartment to clean (I lived with my parents until 4 years. They divorced, was complicated and it was difficult for me, this change). Once there, I saw that had a woman living with a child, she had made a reform in the apartment, but even then I recognized. Suddenly, I run into a window, the living room window, and I am moved; the window reminds me of my father and all my memories of the house (it seems that all materialize in this window. Suddenly, she opens and I approach and look outside, and I see that the outside was different from I remember as a child …

Currently, I’m unemployed, and I cannot work in my profession (it’s a profession that I like really), and I’ve been thinking a lot lately on what path to take, including changing profession … But I still do not I know what to do …

Dear Renata – Your interesting and beautiful dream reflects the work you have done already to change your mind – change your perception – and so to transform your inner world.
The woman in the apartment is an aspect of you too – your inner mother? – and the child reflects your inner child.
    See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/mother-mum-ma/#InnerMother
What arises when you use “Being the woman” and “Being the child”; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson?
When you run into the window you become aware of your inner father; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/father-dad/#InnerFather
This memory of your father, his mind and what you carry within you may have been blocked before and you may have felt stuck because of that; glass can be an invisible but powerful inner barrier.
Your experience “and I am moved” and the window opening shows that you are able to allow feelings again that are related to your father; that is a way of cleaning too.
When you then look outside, you become aware that your inner world has been changed again.
Your dream reflects a process you are going or have to go through in order to change your perception; “and I see that the outside was different from what I remember as a child …”
To give yourself a sense of inner direction, it may help to use “Being the person” for your own dream figure and allow and integrate the feeling that you have when you look through the window and see that the outside – a symbol for your inner world – has changed.
This feeling will then become like an inner “road sign” and you will sense/intuit when you are off track.
The inner cleaning of your inner male – the memory of your father is an aspect of your inner male too – may help you move beyond not knowing what to do as far as your direction in your working life is concerned.
The male within the female, is shown as a man in a woman’s dreams. (Or in your dream as a window into the memory of your father)
Physically a woman is predominantly female, but also has a clitoris and produces some male hormones. Psychologically, we may only express part of our potential in everyday life. In a woman, the more physically dynamic, intellectual and socially challenging side of herself such as assertiveness and taking charge of situations may be given less expression. Apart from this some features, such as innovation and creative rational thought, may be held in latency. Even if this is not true for the modern woman, there are features of her full potential that are held as secondary or latent characteristics, and are depicted by the male in female dreams.

I have a recurring dream about the first house I lived in with my late husband. It was a lovely cottage but In my dream its dilapidated and has a really creepy atmosphere. There is always a big undiscovered room in the house, it looks like a really ornate concert hall and there’s a deep blue swimming pool in the centre. I don’t want to swim there, in fact I always feel like I want to get away from that room as fast as possible. I go back into the part of the house I recognise and there are lots of strangers sitting around chatting to one another. I ask them if they’ve seen my husband, in my dream I know he’s in that house somewhere, but they ignore me and I give up and walk out the front door crying because no one will talk to me and I don’t know why they are there and I can’t find him, at that point I wake up.

I have continuously dreamt of the same house but only recently. It is a dream where I move to California, like LA (I live in northern Indiana), and I live in a huge house it is brown on the outside and has very nice landscaping. On the inside there is a huge livingroom to the right of the door and what I presume to be a kitchen beyond that. I always walk straight to the stairs which are directly beyond the door. I go upstairs and always go to the same room. In real life I have a pretty small one story house and I have a particularly small room. In the dream my room is very large and it even has its own refrigerator and cabinets on one wall. I have had this dream three of four times in about a two month period.

Well I have had this dream of this house my hole life. The house always Is the same very homie and comfortable. But some times there is a addition to the house. There was condos that were built. And it was a gated and locked patrolled by security all with the house. The house is somewhere in Florida and the house is a mansion brick butt the setting seems like it’s something out of a rule County it changes from time to time if anyone can help me with this please driving me batshit crazy?

    -Anna - Tony's Assistant 2016-04-13 4:55:51

Dear Russ – The very homie and comfortable house is a reflection of your basic state of mind; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/home/
An addition to the house may symbolise that you are expanding your awareness and that you express more of your potential.
It serves a purpose to explore “Gated and locked patrolled by security”.
    See also http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/fence/ and http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/gate/
When you imagine yourself back into the dream you can explore what feelings/thoughts images etc. arise while being in the gated area and what changes when you go through the gate and leave that area.
Because the “security” is a part of yourself too, you can explore its function by using http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson
Leaving the gated and locked patrolled by security area may also symbolise letting go of control.
In many circumstances we edit or control what we allow ourselves to think or feel. Dropping this form of judgment, if only for short periods while you open to the mystery you are, is important. At first it may cause some concern because you are unblocking part of the flow, and it may start pushing out some of the attitudes, past experiences and habits that have been blocking your greater flow. Usually those things would have been cleansed in the normal LifeStream, but unconscious tensions and resistances prevent the healing. This is why we have to consciously take in hand the work of dropping our self-control for periods of time.

I have dreamt of several houses or buildings.one is an old rundown warehouse witch I always recognize by the old worn out red rust painted ,wooden loading doc. There are other buildings next to it on both sides witch I have been to the one on the right befor that happens to be an old rundown apartment building. But that’s a whole other dream on its own. So back to this loading doc. When I enter it at first it seams like a regular warehouse. That then becomes a haunted house themed ride. There are usualy other people there sometimes couples that I don’t know. One In a while I’ll be with a friend or family member. I’m afraid and hesitate but then get on the ride. And as I go along there are all these usual scarey rooms differently themed. And I always end up getting off the ride in the middle and wandering and getting lost I always wake up afraid with the fealing of being followed. But never see who it is. This has been going on since I have been a team as far as I can remeber.now as for the run down apartment I have been there maybe three times over the yrs and always end up in the top shelf of a closet that when I’m in it, it it seems like a verry small space and I’m living there like a homies person or runaway. There never seams to be no point other then I’m hiding!??? I don’t know. Recently over the past 10 yrs I’m 35 by the way. I have dreamt of a old farm house with a big porch and screen door. It old and dusty when I’m in it I’m cooking in the kitchen and in the middle of the floor there is a big hole that gone strait down into the basement the kitchen floor is made of wood and is all broken up where the hole is like somthing fell through it. But there always something scary trying to get out big huge rats! And I’m always trying to cover the hole with what ever I can find but nothing g is ever big enough and I’m frustrated by it. And last but never the least I ha e been dreaming of this mansion for as long as I can remember. It is and old Victorian mansion beautiful with all it carvings and statchue’s it’s beautifully carve grand stare case’s and huge front room but it’s haunted and I’m trying to find the ghost. I always find myself in an area of the house were it is more modern but dorm room like and I’m afraid of it. But I’m always looking for it. The situations are always different and th people as well. I always see family member who have past but are alive in my dream but I know that they have past and they are always diapering when I try to talk to them. Well that it in a nut she’ll so to speak. Let me know what you think. Thank you

Dear Trina – A recurring theme in your dreams is that the house – your mind – is haunted; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/haunt-haunted/
Your dreams also show that you do not know yet how to approach this situation in your inner world.
What are haunting you may be painful memories from the past and I feel that the best way to approach this is to look at and work with one dream.
There is so much fear in your dreams and they reflect feeling lost in your inner world, running, hiding and covering up what needs to be faced, processed and released.
Because I want to respect your fear I do not feel that it serves a purpose to overwhelm you with exploring all the dreams you have shared.
A healing and growth process is not about an “all or nothing” approach, but about doing one baby step at a time.
Also I would like to offer you to join the Forum – it is for free – where Tony can help you explore and work with your dreams one step at a time; http://dreamhawk.com/forums/index.php?topic=553.msg1568#msg1568
What I see in your first dream is that you become aware of the possibility of receiving and releasing; the loading dock.
Are you aware of what enters your mind so that you have the possibility to digest and release what you cannot use?
Digestion is a very important function not just for your body but also for your mind and spirit. People can become confused or afraid because they have not digested their experience or what they have learnt at school or the lessons and experience of a relationship long gone.
When you “get on the ride” you use an “all or nothing approach” and you become aware that it does not work.
Entering and exploring one room at a time is more than enough!
Imagination is a helpful tool towards change. So imagine yourself back in this dream and get on the ride to the first scary room.
There you leave the ride and you spend some time in the room.
You can sit in the room or walk around and you pay attention to any feeling that might arise and you name the feeling; “I feel (not I am) scared” or “I feel sad”.
When you feel it is enough you get on the ride again with the intention to leave the room and to return to the place where you feel the house is not haunted; “When I enter it at first it seems like a regular warehouse.”
At this point you stop the exercise.
