Twin

There are several possibilities when you dream of a twin or twins.

The first one is that it is part of you that has got split off from your main development. So they can be one of the many polar opposites or splits in our being – the split between waking consciousness and sleep or the unconscious; the split between what we want in our deepest desires, and what we can allow ourselves socially; the split caused by infant trauma; the split between our sense of eternity and the facts of physical mortality; introversion and extroversion; something of self which has got split off, or perhaps even ‘died at birth’, leaving us feeling only half a person; the lack of balance in our being.

Twins can also represent duality, conflict, or two sides of an issue, but also the emergence of something new, something that was denied, that you were born with, but never acknowledged as part of yourself. It can also be your unconscious relationship with another person, such as occurs in a telepathic link. In some cases though it is about separation, and the feelings you have about that, or about the denied or unrealised part of yourself.

But if you were a twin at birth and you twin died it could be a reference to them and your continued link with them. To quote from http://www.twinlesstwins.org/GRIEF/ProfessionalResearch/TwinBereavement.aspx –

“When we lose a twin, it feels for many of us like the literal end of our lives. That is true, in that it is the end of life as we have known it since the moment of our conception. As one twin explained to me: ‘The day my twin died, the lights went out.’ Another twin said to me, ‘After Daphne died, it was as if I couldn’t breathe. I’d never in my life thought about breathing. I just took it for granted that Daphne and my breath were part of being alive.’ When our twin dies, we must begin to breathe again; we must begin again with our lives, starting with what truly feels like the end.”

“Twins begin their identify formation in the womb. Whether fraternal or identical, they receive different stimuli and resources in the womb environment and, therefore, have different experiences that affect their fetal development. But from their cellular origins, they are ushered into the womb in relationship, both to their mother and to each other. And early on, they begin to show distinct, individual, and also interactive patterns of behavior and temperament, which have been observed and documented by researchers with the use of ultra-sonography. These patterns are often repeated after birth.”

But here is another possibility, explained by man who was trying to find himself.

There is a part of me that he has never actually involved in this present life. It has never been expressed. It has never been incarnated. It is almost as if it was not born with me. It has never expressed through the body. It hasn’t made itself real through the body. So it is almost as if it has been a spiritual or invisible twin, a ghost, a spirit guide. It is influencing his life – God, what a story – and yet is so frustrated. Frustrated all the time because it can’t live its life. It is pushing and pushing me toward what it wants to do, yet it is not felt as wholly me. It is not something I have built into my life and trusts, and so I do not live it in the same way as he lives the other areas of my life. When I look at this question though, I see there is a problem which is a part of my nature. It has created this division. When I was born there was a struggle about incarnation. I didn’t want to be born. I didn’t want to face again the experience of the world. So, a very large part of me was cut off from involvement and expression. It was pulled back or held back. It did not directly build the body or build the experience it might have done otherwise. See Meeting My Baby Self

An amazing conception happened after two eggs were fertilised at the same time in the womb. Both Kylie and her partner Remi Horder, pictured below, are of mixed race. Their mothers are both white and their fathers are black. According to the Multiple Births Foundation, baby Kian must have inherited the black genes from both sides of the family, whilst Remee inherited the white ones. The odds against of a mixed race couple having twins of dramatically different colour are a million to one.

A mixed-race British couple has defied the odds — twice — by producing two sets of twins in which one sibling appears to be black and the other white.

I am 33 and have a twin sister that I’m very close to. I am divorced after 10 years of marriage and my ex recently remarried. I am currently dating someone that I adore and see a future for us.

Last night I dreamed about being at some type of function and all of a sudden a plethora of twins dressed formally were coming into the function. Different races, genders and they all appeared identical. Later more came that were more mature and looked just as nice. I was so intrigued and talked to a few about what their purpose was as a group. One stated, to fight for individuality, because people always treat them as one.

Lastly, my sister and I never really had that problem after we graduated high school and I still care about my ex as my son father, but love my new beau.

I had a dream last night that I gave birth to twin girls. I am currently pregnant with one baby…
one of the twins looked like me and was quite shy, smaller than the other one, and very quiet. the other twin looked like my boyfriend, and acted like him; aggressive, loud, boisterous, and kind of bullied the other twin. It was very strange, and very real. I’m not sure if this means anything, or if it’s just my psyche trying to wor something out about my own personality, or hormones making me have strange dreams!

I had a dream that I had twins with my ex boyfriend. He and I still act like we are dating but we aren’t. In my dream, I was breast feeding but you couldn’t see the baby, you were only able to see the nipple. As I started to breast feed the other baby he turned into a blue highlighter. In the dream it was normal. I put them on the bed next to mine, and I look at the twins and they are remote controls, and I said “I can’t wait til you guys grow body parts like arms and legs”. This dream is really bothering me, what does it mean?

I am a twin and I had a dream that my twin died. I was at her funeral and I was holding it all together and then I realized that I was all alone and the other half of me is gone. I also just started balling my eyes out in my dream… What does this mean? Any insight on this would be very helpful

I had a dream that I was in the process of a divorce and pregnant with twins (a male and female) by an old boyfriend. We were both so excited and so happy and couldn’t wait to tell the old boyfriend’s sister (with whom I’m friends with). I gave birth to the twins and they were gorgeous and it felt so real.

I had a dream that I had twins, it started from when I found out that I was pregnant, then when I found out I was having twins, then the baby shower, then finding a house for all of us (because I already have a 4 year old son), then they were born and my boyfriend was all cool about it except he just wanted to work more to take care of all of us

    -Tony Crisp 2012-06-12 10:29:25

Heather – I think your boyfriend is very cool, in that he wanted to work harder to provide for your family. I felt the same when I saw my first born – I felt I must get a better job and earn enough money.

The dream seems to be a practice run for preparing for more family – it could even be looking forward to your next pregnancy.

Hi, I’m 14 and for some odd reason ive always wanted a twin sister. I use to dream that we were always together, and we did everything together. Last year, I found out that I actually had a twin sister, but my mom told me she died at birth. I don’t know why, but I just don’t want to believe thats true. For example soon after I found out I was a twin, I would dream that my twin and I were actually separated at birth and that the hospital made a mistake by pronouncing her dead and that she went to another family instead. Im not sure if this is a coinincidence but, the very next day after I had that dream, I was watching the news and it was saying that two twin sisters were reunited after finding out that one twin was adopted by another family and the other twin remained with her family. What can you tell me about this?… If I wanted to find out more information about my sister without involving my parents(it makes them sad to talk about it) how would I do that? Also I feel kinda lonely sometimes, like it’s hard for me to open up to new people and start talking to them. Any help with that? Plz respond in email or on this website(I would feel more comfortable with an email response) ASAP!! Thank you so much.

I had a dream last night, in which I had a twin sister. I remember stumbling into her room, where she slept on a top bunk with her boyfriend. She was older than me, with a head full of beautiful blond dreads, clad in beads and rainbow thread. She was the older twin. Her boyfriend was all bleach-blonde and black eyeliner, wild and fresh from getting kidnapped (And apparently, I had a mega crush on him too).

I hugged her from behind and nuzzled my face into her dreads, breathing in her strength. I was all plain jane with long brown hair, and too much silly youth and innocence. I could see it in her boyfriend’s eyes – they were planning on going traveling through Europe, and my twin said soothingly that I could come too, but his eyes were disappointed.

I woke up, longing to see my twin, breathe in her scent and feel her strength. I hate having dreams about people who feel more real than realworld people, and missing people I have never met. But I still can’t figure out what it means, though I feel there is a message in there.

Avonelle – I presume you are actually a Gemini, and so your birth sign is that of a twin. And in fact you dream says such a lot about your nature.

Your twin is actually the real you – forget about the stuff about being more real than real world people. You do not emerge from your body, but from a pattern in a seed that gradually grew a body and so now you think you are a body. See http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/the-lifestream/ Also these dreamt parts of you are not strangers, but are aspects of you that are usually overlooked or unconscious – they are very real because they are what give you what you are.

You see yourself as a silly youth and innocent, yet the part that is the kernel of you is rather beautiful in a colourful way, and of course you have a crush on the boyfriend, he is the male opposite to you. She is also more mature.

So do it – while awake in imagination breathe in her scent and feel her strength, because it is your own. It is your own potential that can be yours. So when you become that new you, then you can go on the trip to the old world of Europe. See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/practical-techniques-for-exploring-your-dreams/#TalkingAs If you get the feel for it you will discover more about the real you.

Hi there I had a dream that my best friend was telling me I am going to have twins and I woke up straight after she had said it. I also had a dream a few nights ago I had a baby boy and named him Seth. He was in my living room and it was SO real. What do you think this could mean? Many thanks

-Tony Crisp 2012-05-11 10:49:02

Kelly – As far as dreams are concerned every thing you dream about is an expression of some part of you. See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/what-we-need-to-remember-about-dreaming/

So it seems that you have given birth to two new parts of yourself – a boy and a girl. This suggests that the male part of you impresses you, but the dream then goes on to say that the boy without the girl – the male part of your make up is not good without the female. It is a reminder that the balanced whole you is the direction out go. See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/archetype-of-the-animus-jungs-view-of-the-male-in-the-female/

I have had the same dream for several years. Back before all my fertility issues began; I had a dream that I had a 4-6 year old boy and he was getting ready for school. I remember yelling at him to get moving and waking the twins. A boy and a girl. Skip a head…i have a four yr old son and i have had several miscarriages. The Dr.’s want to start me on medication that has a 5-10% change of twins. Is this my time to have a baby again? Only time will tell!

    -Tony Crisp 2012-05-03 10:12:48

Linda – You are right – only time will tell. But from your dreams it sound like you are on the track for twins.

I dreamt I had fraternal twins a girl and a boy..in my dream my husband saw the babies first and I went to go see them and checked what the sex was..first it was girl..second one a checked was a boy and I kissed was so happy I had a boy..I have six children 4 girls and two boys..what does it mean

    -Tony Crisp 2012-05-02 9:20:22

Dawn – It means you are a healthy woman who has the creative heart.

Because being a woman has given you wonderful creative power – six children – and that power is a joint venture between you and Life – it means that you want to carry on creating. But now you are creating in your dream. A healthy woman is designed by nature to create a baby. But it is also true that at the heart of a woman’s being is the power of creation, and that creation can go in any direction – a mother, an artist, a dancer, a poet, a social worker, or even an alcoholic or drug dependent.

But in our dream world the image of your creation is usually in the form of a baby. But as you may not be pregnant you have produced an image of your creation and creativeness. It is new so you do not know what it is. That you have dreamt this at all shows you need to take note of this extraordinary creativeness and investigate it. You can do this by imagining your self as the baby – remember that dreams are showing reflections of your own inner world so the baby is an expression of your creativity – and talk as the baby describing what it feels. http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/practical-techniques-for-exploring-your-dreams/#TalkingAs

Hi, I had a dream that I was pregnant and aware of it… I was at an amusement park or something I decided to climb onto the roller coaster to get in.. As soon as I got to the top my water broke and water and blood sprayed everywhere.
I took off my pants and the first baby came out..
it was dead and attached to the other one like…
I will explain… It was like a long piece of string maybe the umbilical cord was keeping them linked together… Sorry that’s the best I can explain! The other was alive and healthy…
Then I woke up.. It was strange though!!!
Pls explain this to me!!! I have no idea what to take from it…

I have 9 years old bi-racial twins. We were told our twins are what they call Polar Body Twins. The oldest one is noticeably darker than her twin. The oldest has dark skin, Hazel green eyes and has silky straight black hair. The youngest twin has white skin, Blue eyes, and has curly course medium/light brown hair. There is not much size difference. Their personalities are polar opposite also. They are great girls.

    -Tony Crisp 2012-01-12 10:51:13

Tammy – That is so interesting. I would love to see a picture of them. You could send it via the normal email address.

Polar opposites – lucky you. 🙂

I had a dream that my hubby and I had twin boys. One weighed 10 lbs, one 7 lbs. We named one Dalton and were chosing the name of Drake or Dawson for the other. We were deciding on a middle name and wanted family names. The children were unexpected. It was a very “real” dream….We haven’t discussed having more children. My oldest is 17, youngest 12 and I had a tubal after her. What can this dream mean?

    -Tony Crisp 2011-12-30 10:35:54

Jessica – My sense of your dream is that you actually wanted more children but at the same time you decided against it. So in your very real dream you had two lovely boys. And do not dismiss them as a silly dream, such dream babies have a very real purpose and life of their own. They are your creation out of the wonderful creative process that is a woman, and your own ideals and longings. If you nurture them you will see them grow – I call the spirit children.

Such children grow and develop like any other living thing. As can be seen in the second dream in the garden, Golden Wolf had matured into a beautiful youth.

Many people might think a spirit child or spirit character is a complete farce and without any reality in the world. However, that is far from being true. For instance, take characters such as Superman or Spiderman. These are creations in the mind of one or more people. As such they may not be as deeply rooted in the psyche of their creators as my own spirit child is in mine. I didn’t sit down and think up Golden Wolf – my spirit child. He was born in my dream, created out of the flow of life between a partner and me. Then, with something of a life of his own he reappeared in a later dream. But coming back to Superman and Spiderman, those characters have an enormous life in the material world. Millions of people are involved in their existence on screen or in books. They have very real influence in the world.

So remember this in connection with two wonderful children you gave birth too.
