Frog Frogs

Any amphibian and reptile depicts your basic spinal and lower brain reactions, such as fight or flight, reproduction, attraction or repulsion, sex drive, need for food and reaction to pain. This includes the fundamental evolutionary ability to change and the urge to survive – very powerful and ancient processes. Your relationship with the amphibian in your dreams depicts how you deal with such urges in you, and how you deal with the impulses from the ancient part of your brain – probably the spinal brain. (Thanks Melissa).

The deeply unconscious psychobiological life processes, that transformed us from a tadpole/sperm, into an air breathing frog/adult – therefore the process of life in general and its wisdom. The enormous information such symbols hold if we explore them gives them their power. It can also suggest a meeting with what we find difficult or repulsive in life and ourselves, that if we can accept it transforms into personal potential and power – the frog into the prince story. It is often a form of love that transforms the dark sides of oneself, the toad or beast, into something that is life enhancing. It can also be sub-personality, an aspect of ones character that is usually unconscious, but occasionally shows itself in behaviour.

The frog has also been associated with the power of resurrection and renewal.

Frogs spawn: Sperm, ovum and reproduction. It can also occasionally show as a doorway to another dimension. See: sub-personalityAutonomous Complex

Example: I felt close to a woman, and we were holding hands. Together we walked into a large building. I believe my woman companion had been in the place before. I say this because I was feeling slightly uncertain and she was feeling confident and supportive.

Inside the front door of the building was a wide passageway probably about 15 or 20 feet wide. Not far along this passage something completely filled the space ahead. It looked like frogs spawn, but much more ethereal, perhaps like patterns of energy with just a little material substance. With no real hesitation the woman and I walked into this wall of energy. I believe we knew more or less what would happen – that we would be absorbed and become wholly a part of this life form. As we walked into it I was trying to analyse what was happening and what it felt like. I lost all sense of my body as a dense form, but I could still feel my partner’s hand in mine in a very delicate way – again like energy playing upon energy

It can also relates to being a little frog in a big pond, or pointing our that like frogs, you are  jumping from one thing to another, or perhaps moving forward in leaps and bounds.

Frogs were linked with the Egyptian frog goddess Heket. It was associated with the flooding of the Nile. The association was made because when the Nile left its riverbed, millions of tiny frogs also appeared. So frogs represented abundant life and fertility to the Egyptians. An image of the goddess was worn by pregnant women as a talisman for a safe birth.

The frog and the princess who aids the frog to transform in a prince are about the power of transformation in our inner world. The things we despise or avoid are often – in our dream world – the things that have wonderful qualities of transformation.

Because frogs lay a mass of eggs they are symbols of fertility. This can represent the creativity you have unconsciously, or sometimes it is dreamt when a woman is pregnant.

We have a brain in us that is there because of our evolutionary history as a reptile.  See Reptilian Brain. Perhaps because of that Joseph Campbell felt that the frog is another example of the dragon and other frightening monsters whose role in mythology is to guard treasure. The reptile/dragon represents the dark and frightening aspects of ones own nature; the huge instinctive feelings we usually resist or repress. The treasure is your Core Self, which enables one to attain real womanhood or manhood. That is why the frog has also been associated with the power of resurrection and renewal.

Useful questions and hints:

What deeper levels of my life process or of survival drives am I becoming aware of?

Is there something of myself I am repulsed by and yet could be transformed?

Do I still need to emerge from dependence into a fuller maturity?

I had a dream that my mother was cutting the feet (only 2 I think) off a frog??

-Ari Rubs 2016-10-16 16:12:38

SO I had a dream of a little tiny frog and it got on me, and then it just randomly gave birth to a bunch of other baby frogs, and then I had no idea what it was, but for some reason, the baby frogs were like starting to grow. I started to kill them with my shoes, and the little tiny frog gave birth to more frogs.

CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME UNDERSTAND THIS???

I dreamt of being outside with many others in the forest late at night. People were laughing and enjoying themselves, as i too. I saw two VERY big spiders in 2 seperates webbs.. I was scared immediately. I was worried someone would walk into the webb. Everyone was ignoring my cries to be careful, and when they finally listened i approached the scene to have my dad ironing clothes outside right next to one of thr two large spiders in a webb. As i initially shined the light towards the webb i saw a very small neon yellow frog under thr ironing board. Once the light was shined directly on the spider, my dad was about to kill the large spider and my husband woke me up before the spider was killed. What could this crazy all over the place dream me?

I had a dream last night that a frog was running around my feet in circles?

-Tamara 2016-08-29 11:58:30

I just had a dream that my SOand I were laying at what seemed to be a park. I was laying on his chest and we were laughing at 2 frogs or toads that were mating next to us. Then the frogs ended up on us like on our laps but were still mating. I flicked them off of the blanket that was on us into a pond of sorts, and there was a ball of what looked like eggs on the blanket. Then I woke up.

Tamara – Maybe you haven’t realised that you are a dual being. We all know what it is like in our daily life with its pleasures and tribulations, but few know what it is like in the other polarity of ourselves. This part of us is not limited in awareness by our physical senses, but has a more global awareness. As one person who experienced it regularly describes it, in our body awareness it is like looking through a crack in a wall at a big river. So all that we can see is what ships are passing in front of us now. But in the other level of us it is like looking over the top of the wall and seeing the whole river, what has passed us and what is coming.

That is the different world, the amazing dimension we enter when we dream. During sleep while we are dreaming our voluntary muscles are paralyzed – except for our eyes. An important fact about dreaming is that all the signals for movement while we dream are sent by the sleeping brain to the muscles but are blocked by a part of the brain called the pons. In life and sleep we have these two powerful actions working in us. The first is our waking experience based on having a body, its limitations, vulnerabilities and a particular gender. Our second is the power that gave us life and continues to express as dreams, in our breathing and heartbeat – our life. This I have given the description as the Life Will.

It is this life will that acts in us, without most people being aware of it, that initiates dreaming in us. Of course it is what also controls all the spontaneous movements that keep us alive, like heartbeat, digestion and breathing. It is also this that sends you dreams such as this one. It is the Life Will that pushes you toward having sex, and in the dream it is saying you are highly fertile and is showing you that you could have a baby – the main reason behind the drive to have sex. But having a partly conscious personality – your personality is only partly conscious because the massive Life Will most of us have lost sight of.

So take hold of that primitive part of you, that ancient river of desire and longing, flow with it. Of course it will try to go in the old channels, the old pathways toward sex and having a child – also a wonderful thing to do. But it can be creative in new ways as social actions, in caring for others, in creative art work, such as writing or music, or ways beyond counting. Life itself is infinitely creative, look around at all the forms it creates.

Your dream is showing you your amazing fertility/creativity don’t throw it away.

    Tony

I had a dream I gave birth to a frog. I was freaked out and wanted nothing to do with it. It then turned into a beautiful baby boy.

-Julie 2016-08-22 13:23:49

My dream was about this huge frog trying to get to me through a window. Just kept jumping against the glass to get my attention.

-Juliet 2016-08-09 12:41:40

I had a dream that there was a large frog that bit the top of my left hand. I had 6 puncture marks all together but the frog missed every one of my veins. I cried out to help from my brother because I could not get the frog off of my hand. It seemed as though the frog was on my hand for a whole minute and I ended up collapsing on the floor and about to lose consciousness when my brother removed the frog. I instantly felt as though my life was returning to my body. He called an ambulance for me and then I was taken to a hospital.

I had a dream this morning involving many frogs. I was having an intimate moment with my husband and then i step back and behind him is a wire fence and i see a frog hanging to the fence. My husband is now ahowing anymore and as i step back more frogs appear into vision, to the end maybe 15-20 of them of different sizes medium to big. The last one i see is extremely large and green. And i wake up. Can you help understand what is means. The last few weeks have been intense, me having troubles with my family not speaking to them. There have been quarrels and conflict with his family, who is led by his big brother. Me and my husband had a heated discussion yesterday if we are to stay together or separate, as there is an age gap, me older and he doesnt see himself having children with me. I already have 2 children from previous marriage. There is also lots of doubt in my mind about his past and suspecting he might have a child from previous relationship that he is hiding from me. I also know his feelings for me are not as strong as mine are for him.
Could you please help to throw some light on what my dream could mean. I read some mixed interpretations and a bit confused which ones to go with.

I had a dream that in the world we had only a little time to live so we would be killed. Then I gained a 2 headbands one with a crown on and the other one had 2 frogs and a crown. I had them on my head and was told that i will not be killed. Then I
In my dream I started asking but what about my daughter. I need to save her. The dream became very intense on me trying to save my daughter or figure out how she can stay alive. Then I woke up. What does this dream mean?

-Marycruz 2016-05-27 12:39:00

I had a dream several days ago that caught my attention because of the weirdness of it. A frog was biting my left hand and no matter how hard I tried to get it off of me, he would not give up my hand. He clasped on to my hand so tightly that he had all my five fingers covered in his mouth. It finally took the aid of other persons to get the frog off my hand. While the frog ha my hand on his mouth, I was so eager and desperate to liberate my hand from what I thought a dirty creature. But the puzzlement came when my hand was finally liberated. I swear the frog had a huge smile on his face as if saying “yes I did it”. I looked at my hand and contrary to what expected to see, it looked beautiful and almost new; not a single bruise or bite mark or any sign of it to have been under attack. Please help me in decoding this dream.

I had a dream about a guest coming to stay at my home and as I took them(not sure of the sex) to the basement where I was going to let them sleep, my basement was wet and dark and kind of flooded and a frog hopped out of this person’s bag/bedroll and there seemed to be frogs chirping from my basement. What does this mean? I am a single woman living alone.

    -Anna - Tony's Assistant 2016-05-31 12:26:22

Dear Terri – What it means also depends on how your dream figure feels in the dream, which you do not mention.
To get in touch with your feelings you can enter the dream again while awake and use http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson for your own dream figure in your dream.
In the basement and the darkness lie your unconscious desires, so what new situation and feelings are you about to explore in your inner world?
Dreams often stand in place of actual experience. So through dreams we may experiment with new experience or practice things we have not yet done externally.
Does it make a difference to you if the guest is male or female?
Are you willing to enter the bag/bedroll with your guest?

I dreamt there was a huge Toad in the master bedroom shower of my old house (I no longer live there). Then, obviously I became scared and walked out and in the bedroom there were many baby frogs. As I kept walking backwards, I could still see them through a little hole, I kept trying to shut the hole w the leg of a Chair but they filtered through. I kept walking away and woke up.

    -Anna - Tony's Assistant 2016-05-10 9:33:08

Dear Jana – A toad in a dream can be a symbol for feelings that make you feel uncomfortable and it can also reflect the deeply biological processes of your body, of reproduction and transformation.
A more “productive” way to deal with inner processes, feelings and memories that you perceive as frightening is to face them.
Walking away will not work; it is all part of your inner world and because you cannot get away from yourself “they keep filtering through”.
A way to move beyond your fear could be to use http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/secrets-power-dreaming/

-Mimi 2016-04-25 15:30:28

My dream was a little short and not too clear…the location of the dream was probably in a bedroom (not mine), but there were tons of little brown frogs jumping out of furniture drawers – the frogs didn’t look like frogs, but more like mice. In my dream I knew they were frogs though. In my dream I was very scared and asking why there were so many frogs. Someone in my dream was telling me that it meant I had to acknowledge them so that I would not be scared. I woke up from my dreaming screaming “I am okay with divorce!” My husband and I recently separated and while I’m going through so much pain I feel inside me that this is it and that there is no going back. So, in my mind I feel that we should just file for divorce if I’m feeling this is the end. What do you think this dream means?

    -Anna - Tony's Assistant 2016-04-29 11:22:05

Dear Mimi – You receive a clear inner guidance in your dream; “Someone in my dream was telling me that it meant I had to acknowledge them so that I would not be scared.”
Acknowledging your fearful feelings that are symbolised by the “mice” means that you recognize and stay with what you now perceive as overwhelming emotions; “tons of little brown frogs jumping out of furniture drawers.”
I feel that you perceive these mice – a symbol for fears and worries that need your attention – as frogs because of how you respond to them.
Asking yourself why there were so many frogs may reflect that you are becoming aware how fear makes you jump to premature conclusions; “I am okay with divorce!”
If you feel you can manage you can use http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/opening-to-life/ and see what arises when you ask yourself what the fearful feelings are connected to.
Perhaps you can use this approach with someone you trust who can just be with you while you enter your inner world of feelings?

So this morning I had a dream where there were frogs/toads all around me and they were mating. All I did was scream and that was it. Could you help me understand this dream?
Thank you
