Heart

Emotions, sympathy, tenderness, love, affection. Also inner feelings, desires, secret thoughts, conscience. You can take heart, and thus carry on through difficulties, or lose heart and give up. In some dreams the heart stands for worries you may have about your health. It might not be that you have heart problems, but simply that because of down feelings, your ‘heart’ is not in what you are doing, so there is no zest for life.

Your dream heart indicates your emotions, and through them your pity, sympathy, your likes and dislikes. Of course it also might point to your actual physical heart. This obviously links with relationships and their challenges. If you think it refers to your physical heart get it checked out.

Example: I experienced a degree of fear that the problem with the motor referred to my heart. I let myself slip into the fear and it dissolved and I saw that it referred not to my physical heart, but to my heart as my feelings. I could see that the problem is to do with no feeling connected with people. There’s nothing that makes me feel connected with people. I don’t feel excited about anything.

Being stabbed, shot or in any way injured in the heart may depict deep emotional hurts, but also may be a warning of physical heart problems.

Many dream about the heart are in connection with pounding or racing heart, and these are indications of anxieties or fears, sometimes of illness or death, that are pushed into the unconscious where they rattle about scaring you. Most of these are simply what they show themselves to be in the dreams – fears. Fear that is repressed can cause great tension and illness. Most of such fears are groundless and best brought out into daylight where you can see them for the lifeless, bloodless creatures they are. See: fear – dealing with.

But if your heart is often beating irregularly, or beating fast it is worth having it checked.

The dream heart also depicts your connections with other people as the following example shows.

Example: I was in what looked like huge white ribs. In the ribs was a big heart beating. Beyond that was my homeopath. I could hardly breath, struggling to live. I could hear the heart beating, but as I listened I could also hear another heart beating. It seemed to me it was my sister’s heart connected to my own invisibly. The homeopath came forward and stretching open the ribs, reached into them, took hold of the invisible heart – it was like a shadow behind the other heart – and pulled it out. Immediately I could breath again and felt I was whole. In everyday life I and my sister have been incredibly linked, even to the point of having cramps at night on the same nights, though living in different parts of the world. I had become ill recently out of this connection, but as soon as I had this dream I was well again, but my sister became ill. She has just been diagnosed as HIV positive and is dying.

In the Bible there are nearly a thousand mentions of the word heart. In modern language we might describe this as referring to unconscious intentions or feelings. This might still be the case with heart appearing in dreams. So it could relate to what you are feeling, desiring and intending unconsciously, as with the example above.

Idioms: after your heart; break your heart; change one’s heart; cry your heart out; done one’s heart good; don’t let your heart run away with your head; eat your heart out; faint of heart; from bottom of heart; have a heart; have no heart; have a heart; heart like stone; heavy heart; lost your heart; my heart’s in my mouth; open-hearted; pluck at the heart strings; sick at heart; steal your heart; take it to heart; the heart of the matter; wearing your heart on your sleeve; young at heart.

Useful Questions and Hints:

What feeling or attitude is involved in this dream and where do I meet that in my waking life?

What is happening to my dream heart, and how does that relate to my life?

Is there fear or some threat of death here, and what anxiety am I feeling while awake?

What am I pushing into my unconscious that my heart dream is showing me?

I’ve been having the same dream repeatedly: the guy that I am in a complicated relationship with is killed and has his heart carved out. I’m not sure if it has a meaning behind it, but I am just really curious. We’ve been on and off for two years now and we decided to finally give it a shot but we keep pushing each other away, and I keep having these weird dreams all the time.

I had a dream last night. Someone (idk them) took my heart but I didn’t die. Its just really weird. What does that mean?

Dear Kaye – In the world of dreams our most intimate fears and longings are given an exterior life of their own in the form of the people, objects and places of our dream.
What is important to explore is what your dream figure feels when someone takes her/your heart without her dying; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson
Your dream may reflect your desire to fall in love – someone stole your heart – and your belief that an intimate relationship will not influence your inner world and your patterns of living in any way.
Your own death in a dream may be a symbol of the death of old patterns of living – your ‘old self’ – in order to make place for “a new self”.

Hi,

any help with deciphering my dream will be appreciated 🙂

I felt like i was dreaming a lot in this dream but what stuck was the part where after having my future told by a psychic though i cant remember what she said exactly, im suddently somewhere that looks like a city, it just nearly dark and i see a gold looking person/statue, but i knew it wasnt a person per se, it was something else/spiritual and hes talking to me and im talking to it and I say something along the line of i have to/i am opening my heart. Then i start soaring in the sky and i start shooting from my chest bright green beams of light in the sky that look somewhat like a laser, the beam goes wider as it goes higher… in the dream i know i need to show 8 beams of light (what the gold person said), i also do white ones in between the green beams, but once i got to the eighth one i woke up.

🙂

Dear Nat – In life and sleep we have two powerful actions working in us. The first is our waking experience based on having a body, its limitations, vulnerabilities and a particular gender. Our second is the power that gave us life and continues to express as dreams, in our breathing and heartbeat – our life. This I have given the description as the Life Will.
While we sleep our conscious self – the Conscious Will – is largely or totally unconscious and the Life Will takes over when we sleep.
Both “having my future told by a psychic” and “something else/spiritual” I see as symbols for the Life Will. You can also open up to the Life Will in your waking life http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/opening-to-life/ and http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/1208/
Soaring and shooting green beams of light can suggest that you have found a positive and healing expression to your energy and the number eight may symbolise psychological death and rebirth.
You may want to explore for yourself what you feel at this point in your dream by using http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson.

Hey my friend had a dream of her painting a human heart with her finger . What’s the meaning behind this ?

-Regan 2016-02-17 5:22:18

Hi.

I had a dream that continued everytime fell asleep after waking up. It never repeated but just continued. In the dream i was in a strange apartment with friends when the world around me started catching fire and exploding. Suddenly a good female friend of mine (i am male if it is of any importants.) started to try and pull my heart out of my chest saying it would be good for me if she succeeds. I keep fighting her off and she keeps getting stronger. After waking and falling asleep again i dream we somewhere else but she again tries to pull my heart out. The third part of my dream is once again in a different place but she again comes up to me and tries to pull my heart from my chest and continues to tell me it will be good for me. Thats when my alarm went off and i awoke for the final time.

Can you please shed some light on this dream because i regard this lady as family and it is causing me some distress.

Dear Regan – Did it feel like the end of the world to you? http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/end-of-world/
The woman in your dream may reflect the female within the male; the anima.
Physically a man is predominantly male, but also has nipples and produces some female hormones. In general we can say the woman represents the man’s emotions, his nurturing and caring quality, forgiveness, his sense of what is natural and his connection with nature, its cycles and drives.
    Psychologically, you may only express part of your potential in everyday life. In a man, the more feeling and caring side may be given less expression. Apart from this some functions, such as intuition and unconscious creativity may also be held in latency. These secondary or latent characteristics are depicted by the female in male dreams. The femaleness or maleness must not be confused with personality. The conscious personality is a very flexible and shapeshifting thing. It can be male or female in quality no matter what the body gender. But in dreams, the female is the receptive, creative aspect of this shapeshifting personality;
So why not listen to her and explore what happens if you let her pull your heart out? http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/active-imagination-and-dreams/

I had a dream that two people that I knew that k can’t remember who they were, we’re trying to take out my heart with there bare hands and it was weird because one was not he left and the other was on the right and they were holding me down saying “we want your heart give it to us” and I screamed “take it, it hurts to much.” And they tried on both sides which is weird considering you only have one heart and I could physically feel the pain it hurt very bad and I remember thinking “when is this dream going to end” and it just wouldn’t and I was confused and I didn’t know why I didn’t have control when my ex girlfriend came and tried to save me and she did.. We just broke up a week ago we still talk and we want to get back together but she wants to be alone and stuff but anyways yeah she saved me I don’t know what this dream means.

-Niki 2015-12-26 1:51:11

My dream was a friend and I hanging out at a train station that doesn’t exist but i still knew we were in my home town. Somebody started shooting. My friend was shot 3 times , me twice. Somebody called the EMT for us.. But we went ahead and started walking toward the hospital. As we were walking all the sudden the were huge pools of water we had to swim through.. But we finally got through those. As we continued to walk he realized all his bullets went straight through him and was bleeding a lot. One of my bullets went through my side. The other lodged in my chest a bit. I put my two fingers in and went under the skin and a bit of fat and there was the bullet. He yelled at me to leave it alone because the bullet may be keeping me alive. And sure enough when he said it I said I think your right. I moved it a bit more and I could feel my whole body get quiet tingly. And I quickly forced it back in position, he held pressure on it as we walked to the hospital. I woke up before we made it.

    -Anna - Tony's Assistant 2015-12-30 12:18:46

Dear Niki – What I see in your dream – and please explore it yourself as well http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/dream-yoga/ and http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson – is that you become aware of some traumatic injury that hurt several aspects of your being.
You mention a “somebody” twice; one does the shooting and one is aware that you need help or support.
Who or what are these “somebodies”? (Being the person)
You decide for another approach and start your walk towards healing; making your own way at your own pace.
You do not express in detail how you and your inner male – http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/archetype-of-the-animus-jungs-view-of-the-male-in-the-female/ – managed swimming through the huge pools of water and so how you dealt with meeting the inner world of your mind and feelings; other than that you “finally got through those.”
    See also http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/swimming/
I believe that through dealing with your inner world, you realised a “breakthrough” in the sense that you become aware how you have lost energy or motivation to move on in life; “a friend and I hanging out at a train station.”
The bullet in your chest is a symbol of painful experiences/remarks/emotions that you have stored inside.
Removing the bullet – letting go of the past – would mean that the hurt self that you identify with at first – the “me” that is kept alive by the bullet – will die.
In order to give birth to a new self, you have to let the old self die first.
You do become aware that when you move the bullet a bit more, that your whole body becomes quite tingly.
That is a sign that LIFE is starting to move through you again, ready to heal you and to let your potential emerge; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/vibrate-vibration/
    See also http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/trauma/
Pressure on the chest shows how feelings, emotions are so heavy they are holding you back from being easily active and outgoing.
So what will you choose; let go of the pressure on your chest and remove the bullet or keep it in place?

-Thane 2015-12-17 18:36:41

A couple days ago, I was watching CNN, more specifically the segment on the climate change and the possible outcomes of global warming, and they said that if it continues on the same path, that Earth would go from 2/3 water world, to more Like 3/4 or more water world. Last night, I had a dream, a very real one, and in it was the end of the world. The world was getting covered in water and the water was rising, fast, all during a sunny day. At one point, I was in a house, on the second floor and was able to look out the window and see water at about that level. The dream continued and it only got worse. When I woke up, my heart was beating very fast, but I wasn’t sweating or anything. I had to slow my breathing down to slow my heart rate enough to fall back asleep. Then the dream continued, right where it left off. It was a very vivid dream, although, not lucid (by my definition) meaning I couldn’t control anything in the dream. It wasn’t scary, just… Real. What do you think?

I have a dream last night started out as nothing really then turned into me remembering my sibling there beside me as I was born but was empty inside had a tube thing hanging out from my inside attached to my heart that wasn’t really beating the cord was out my bum and I looked at my sibling as she knew I wasn’t going to make it and the fact something happening that I next remember me being my sis upset as I was gone all the time that I decided to make come back to life by going back in time and me being there again then me as the one in bed we saying don’t worry I have done this 42 time and you will live for a while before time stops and your back in the bed with this heart cord hanging and that’s all I keep remembering having shock she done this before and she says are you ready as she throws the cord on the floor and it stretches feeling the pull on my heart and she tugs it and i felt it pop off my heart and my heart was gone having no heart like but I then wasn’t stomach not attached to my intestines walking around thinking upset I can’t go home to anyone as all my family think I’m dead and felling all empty and lighter without my stomach and also thinking this life won’t end as it gets stopped as my sis is trying to figure how to put me back to life as I feel like I’m not human wandering I’m I’m living without my stomach heart thing. Then waking up again in the table my family walking away wandering if I was gonna make it and sis saying don’t worry I have a plan she tugs my cord again and and says don’t move acted dead and she shouted our parents and they came through and looked at the monitor screen and it stopped beats and they say there as I was pretending to be dead and watching them and forgetting to stay still they kept looking at like she moved but they thought they were just imagining it and I was trying to move. I woke felling weird.
Reply if you can, I know it’s confusing to understand. Xx

I had a very strange dream last night.. In the dream I had woken up and I had a small stitch where your heart is.. I asked around why did I have this stitch and a guy I’m not sure who told me they had taken my heart out and placed it in the freezer that it was still pumping and that’s why I was alive.. He explained to me how in a couple of hours he would put it back.. I walked around panicking not knowing what it was how could I walk without a heart.. Hours went by and then it was time to
Put my heart back.. I panicked and told him I had to go home that surgery would take too long.. So I left with my heart in my hands beating.. I’m not excatly sure what this dream meant but I woke up today and I have not felt like myself..

I had a dream last night where there was two guys playing on guitar and one of them approched me and started to sing to me. My boyfriend was sitting across from me and i know he was watching what was going on. I got so embarrassed. I started to feel my heart beating so fast i could see it popping out of my chest. Ive been talking to this guy who sang to me as friends.. and its so strange to me to have dreams of this other guy when i have a bf.

I just had an incredibly clear dream that some man ripped his heart out, he split it in half to show me the inside of his heart, then he put the heart back into his chest and then he died.
I woke up sweaty and scared, my own heart beating crazily. The dream looked so clear and real that I needed 2 mins to actually realize that I’m awake.
I’m not one to believe that dreams have a meaning but this scares me. What does that dream mean?

-Sandie Seddon 2015-06-21 23:15:31

I had dream that I needed to have my heart checked the check up showed I had 3 valves linking and a slight tear to the heart I was told I wasn’t allowed to move and needed surgery immediately I was transferred to a major hospital I was really scared but relieved that this problem would be fixed

    -Anna - Tony's Assistant 2015-06-22 11:51:24

Dear Sandie – Dreams have many functions. Your dream could be an expression of what is happening in the physical body. Some doctors consider dreams to show signs of illness long before they are evident in other ways. Women frequently know they are pregnant very early on through sleep awareness in a dream.
    See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/function-of-dreaming/
If your intuition tells you that this function of dreams might apply to this dream, then I suggest you have a health check.
Your dream could express worries you may have about your health. It might not be that you have heart problems, but simply that because of down feelings, your ‘heart’ is not in what you are doing, so there is no zest for life.
“Worrying is dreaming or imagining in the wrong direction”. So if you feel that is what your dream is expressing, perhaps “the operation” might be that you start using the wonder of imagination for a different purpose?
    See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/the-wonder-of-imagination/
A hospital represents needing or being involved in a healing process of body or mind but also worries about one’s health. Healing also signifies change, so the hospital may also mean the difficulties and fears met in making changes.

A few months ago I lost a baby due to an ectopic pregnancy. I am very much in love with the babies father, who happens to be my best friend. We have a strange friendship. He doesnt want to be more than friends and Im completely in love with him. We still spend a lot of time together and remain intimate…. Last night I fell asleep upset about this and I had a strange dream. I eached into my throat and pulled out my heart… I walked around with it beating in my hand for a while and then i started thinking about the lack of blood in my body (i had a blood transfusion after the ectopic pregnancy) and panicked… so I tried to swallow it. But it was hard, and i had to choke it down and my eyes filled with tears trying to swallow my heart…..

    -Anna - Tony's Assistant 2015-05-16 7:34:37

Dear Gem – You wrote “I am very much in love with the babies father” which also suggests some defence mechanism is at work, since there is no baby.
You also wrote “Im completely in love with him”.
I feel your dream suggests to question/observe your feelings (of love) without being afraid of what you are observing.
Through simple self-observation one gradually arrives at a form of insight which leads to a transcending of oneself as you stood prior to the insights. One may even arrive at a massive altered state of awareness – an insight into the impermanence of your present personality, and the experience of liberation arising from it.
Observing your own ebb and flow of thoughts and feelings, your own habits and responses to things, is one of the most powerful of tools to use in transforming your life. This also leads to a fuller connection with your intuitive connection with your core.
Much of our behaviour is largely or wholly unconscious. Becoming aware of something can by itself produce a change. If you are not aware of how you act or respond, there is less likelihood of satisfying change.
Such observation can begin anywhere and should be continued until it becomes a habit. Once you learn it in connection with one thing the skill can be used in any other direction in your life or in your own behaviour.
But before you start, remember that some things you do are not comfortable to become aware of. Personal growth is not a constant delight. There are growing pains occasionally.
