Hit Hitting

Apart from aggressiveness, you may hit on an idea, hit on the answer.

An expression of energy or aggression, often fear. If you are hitting a child, it suggests you are still trying to destroy or repress the development of your own child self. In other words, as a child events that happened to you, parental or social punishment or restrictions, may have held back your emerging curiosity, enthusiasm, sexuality, or love. Maybe these things were crushed. But they are still within you to resurrect, and will call out to be healed. So the hitting in your dream would be a continuation of the repression that you received in your early years.

Because of problems we never resolved with our parents, while we are together with a partner we tend to hit them with everything we needed to have worked out with our parents. This is because any emotions or love that was hurt with parents now gets projected onto the present love.

Example: I hit the ground and I could feel intense pain everywhere. I thought ” I love you Thomas ” (my boyfriend). Then I died and everything went black. I then remember standing over my friend who jumped off same building but wasn’t fully dead yet. I felt bad that he was in pain and was looking in his eyes. I then smushed him like a bug with my foot so he would be out of his misery.

As can be seen in this dream you cannot die in your dreams, although you can imagine and feel what you think it is like to die like that. Then as with a computer game, there you are again to play once more – the game being played is The Game if Life.

In one woman’s dream she wrote to me that she could see a massive wave building up and coming towards her. It was so huge that the water was retreating as the wave was building. She said she couldn’t move because there was nowhere she could run from it, and so she stood in fear of it. Then as it hit her she woke in fear.

Now I want to say to somebody like that, “Why are you frightened of life?” I say this because it is so obvious in the dream that what is coming to her is something so huge and wonderful, and yet she is the terrified of it. That wave was a massive force of positive change that if she had met it would have transformed her life. Unfortunately many people are frightened of Life. See Life’s Little Secrets

Being hit in the guts in a dream is usually about hurts in a relationship or something to do with sex, feeling a target of someone’s verbal or emotional attack.

Example: I was attending an adult class with about 20 or 30 people, mostly men. The teacher came in. He said something and a man asked a question or spoke back. The teacher got really angry and hit him with a walking stick. Someone else in the class remarked on the beating and was attacked also. A man sitting next to me on my left said that if the teacher hit him he wouldn’t sit and take it.

But as the second man was hit, my companion said something like – Bloody hell. The teacher landed two mighty blows on his arse, but he didn’t move. I said in horror “Good God!” whereupon the teacher moved to hit me. I stood up and said, “If you hit me with that thing I’ll whack you in the fucking ear.” I felt keyed up and ready to fight. He backed off and threatened to get the headmaster on me. I told him to try it. He said if I could do better try it. So I took over the class and it went really well.

Then I seemed to be witnessing a young man making love with a girl in a room. A teacher burst into the room and got angry at the couple. The young man was not at all cowed. He said, “You burst into a private room without knocking. We happen to be adults. I want an apology.” The teacher was silent for a time then apologised. The young man said, “Thank you sir. I am proud to acknowledge you as my teacher.”

The dreamer was a man in his forties, and the dream, when he explored it was about the sort of violence he witnessed at school. It shows how he felt and what he wanted to do, to stand up for himself for taking such heavy blows – but at the time lived in the belief that it was normal. But he was now seeing it from a different viewpoint, and handled it very well. As you can see, you do not have to cower to aggressors in your dreams.

Hitting a child: Is usually a response stimulated by supreesing ones own growth or having a childhood in which your own growth was punished. Hitting a child is the aggressiveness turned against your own growing sexuality.

I dreamt that there were a few beautiful horses, felt like wild/race horses but they were dressed up like a show horse. They were loose and running in the streets–in danger of the cars. So people started gathering with their hands held, spreading out to create a barrier between the horses and the street. The chain of people holding hands grew and I was then also helping to contain the horses–as there was a dirt field to the right. I had my hands out, creating the circle around the horses, then to my right the person happened to be my x from last year. (I am still processing the break up- obviously havent integrated what it was supposed to teach me) So we contain the horses, everything is ok, then my x slides down this little hill and bumps his head on the bumper of a car right below us. Im looking up the other symbols but I don’t understand why he bumped his head. I felt really bad, I was like, “Awh are you ok??!” And he just shook it off, got up and walked away. Thank you SO much for your time. I hope I get a response! :))

I had vision, like an insight, which i use to try to understand the same way as i do with dreams. That’s why i’m here, because it is a ‘flash’ but hard to find meanings in the dictionnaires. It is a stone, a dark one, i don’t know the type. It falls and hit the floor. I get this insight and feel the hitting on the ground. Can you help me by sharing your thoughts? I’ll be gratefull 🙂

    -Anna - Tony's Assistant 2016-01-25 16:22:29

Dear Marta – I believe it is a good idea to treat visions the same way as you try to understand dreams, because a vision – also called an hallucination – is an experience of a ‘dream’ occurring while we have our eyes open. The voices heard, people seen, smells smelt, although appearing to be outside of us, are no more exterior than the things and images of our dreams. With this information one can understand that much classed as psychic phenomena and religious experience is an encounter with the dream process. That does not, of course, deny its importance.
The association I have with your vision – I do wonder what insight you received and I hope you will share it with us too – is the expression “to hit rock bottom”.
This would mean that in your darkest hours, you can gain valuable insights, inner healing and growth.
In general I do not deny that insights might have come sooner if we had been willing to look within, but because of our inner resistance towards change/release etc. we are only willing to look and listen when we do hit rock bottom; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/defence-mechanisms/
A way to explore your waking dream or vision of the rock hitting the floor is to use http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson for every symbol in your dream, including your own dream figure as she appears in the vision.
    Anna 🙂

      -Marta 2016-05-29 1:13:22

Yes, i usually treat any information i get while awake or at sleep similarly. I believe their source is the same. Also i get some ‘premonitions’ sometimes, heal traumas and get ‘teachings’.
Thank you for sharing those links. I am not able to control my dreams. I always react to circumstances i am being faced with and can not block those defense mechanisms… I often resist to changes and find it hard to see things clearly when i am envolved. I would like to improved that but i am not sure how.
On the other hand thinking of myself as the objects or people in the dream can bring a new insight over this 🙂
Funny you mentioned that ‘ in your darkest hours, you can gain valuable insights, inner healing and growth’ because that is so true to me.
Looking back, someone told me before i would be leaving my previous job by the end of 2015. Being afraid of getting unemployed again i struggled to keep the job. By the end of february i finally left. Also by that time i was getting the feeling i was unhappy in my relationship and started to step back. Maybe this was about it.
Do you think that being me a black stone and being hitting the ground it had any kind of negativity implied?
Your insight is much apreciated. Thank you 🙂

        -Anna - Tony's Assistant 2016-06-01 10:44:52

Dear Marta – I find http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/opening-to-life/ a helpful way to unblock my defence mechanisms.
I do not see hitting rock bottom as something negative; I merely see it as one of the many path we can take to open up to a different perception.
So there is room to explore other ways of gaining insights, inner healing and growth, and one of them is expressed in “Opening to Life”.
When I do not see things clearly I ask for help and until “the cloud of unknowing” has dissolved, I do not take any decision; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/dream-incubation/
It may serve a purpose to explore why you are resistant to change.
I have learned that with some changes I believed I needed a 100% feeling that the old way or the old life did not work anymore.
So I waited till I had reached the worst possible situation and was only then able to surrender to Life and allow it to heal and grow me; trust in Life may take time to grow too.

-Parmeila dhevi 2015-12-23 1:17:36

Hello, I had this dream that made me physically cry so much I woke up. I had a dream about my father beating me with his belt when i told him I was going out with my boyfriend. he was waiting in the car in front of my house when my father struck me with his belt. The weird thing is that I felt it in real life. when I was leaving my father tried to give some money for the movie but I refused and I had severe beaten marks all over me. I cried to my boyfriend. That was when I woke up sobbing uncontrollably.

    -Anna - Tony's Assistant 2015-12-28 14:47:45

Dear Parmeila dhevi – You do not share if this is what your father does, or has done to you in your waking life; beating you with his belt.
    Please let me know.

-Denis 2015-11-25 17:06:12

I was hitting my son in the face. I woke up feeling very sad, guilty, and remorseful.

    -Anna - Tony's Assistant 2015-11-29 9:52:59

Dear Denis – Can you relate to what is written in this entry about hitting your child?
    QUOTE:
“Hitting a child is usually a response stimulated by supressing one’s own growth or having a childhood in which your own growth was punished. Hitting a child is the aggressiveness turned against your own growing sexuality.”
Perhaps you feel like using “Being your son” to connect with your inner child and to learn how he feels; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson
Are you aware of the different effect feeling guilty and feeling remorseful has on your being and your dealing with this situation in your inner world?
Perhaps you feel like “Being your dream figure” and explore the difference between becoming aware of hitting your son and feeling guilty and hitting your son and feeling remorseful.
I have experienced how feeling guilty is a paralysing feeling which leads to self-destructive tendencies and how feeling remorse can lead to constructive action in making changes.

-Jessica 2015-10-07 18:59:25

I keep dreaming of beating my son like physically punching him then wake up crying and confused. Last night I dreamt my house was falling apart like the balcony was broken and my son kept running onto it and I was angry and scared and started punishing him for running out. I walk past a mirror holding him in my arms crying saying sorry to him and my face is bleeding like I had been beaten. I then see my sister and hand him to her saying to her take my baby and she’s smiling asking if we are Goin for dinner. What does that even mean ?

    -Anna - Tony's Assistant 2015-10-21 15:36:43

Dear Jessica – The way I see your dreams is that they reflect your inner pain and your (possible) healing and growth process.
    In this article you could read what it means to hit a child in your dream;
    QUOTE:
“If you are hitting a child, it suggests you are still trying to destroy or repress the development of your own child self. In other words, as a child events that happened to you, parental or social punishment or restrictions, may have held back your emerging curiosity, enthusiasm, sexuality, or love. Maybe these things were crushed.”
Then in your last dream your house falls apart which shows a big change in your attitudes towards your (child) self.
There is some resistance left at first, which is symbolised by you punishing your inner child for running out on the balcony; for really showing this damaged part of yourself.
    See http://dreamhawk.com/health-and-healing/inner-baby-and-child/
Then you reach a turning point being willing to face yourself – your inner pain – and this inner child in the mirror and handing it over to a part of you which knows how to take care of it.
She invites you to go for dinner which is a symbol of feeding yourself and this inner child so that it can mature.

I had a dream, where I was buying odd and random items at the store with couple of close friends, when suddenly my ex approaches us, he tried to talk to me, but after everything we had been through… I didn’t want to do anything besides punch him… My friends held him down and i hit him in the face a few times, when his new girlfriend along with her mother came up and smothered him. My friends and I immediately left in laughter.. I instantly woke up..

I dreamed that my mom, my brother, and me were leaving my parents workplace with some of her employes. My dads and my moms car needed to be taken home (my dad wasn’t there) and my mom was trying to convince me that I could drive her car home and she could drive home with my brother in the other car. I only have my permit, and I try to explain to her that I can’t drive by myself because if I got caught I wouldn’t be able to drive again till I was eighteen (I’m sixteen). We complain back and forth, until a Latino guy turns around and slaps my arm really hard with with his shirt or his hand, he looked like he wanted to kill me. While my parents passively ask ‘Scott’ to stop, I get angry and start to help him rip off his clothes so we can fight. My mom grabs me and brings me to another room where she asks me if I’m ok. I tell her he just hit me really hard and show her the bright red mark on my arm. She tells me to stop being so analytical and that it really must’ve heart, and then I start crying.

When I woke up I started crying too, I felt really scared and unhappy that my parents didn’t defend me. I know in real life my parents would never let that happen but it did shake me up a bit.

I dreamt that I was beating and scratching on my 2 yr old. I kept choking him and asking his dad to get him before I hurt him. After a while I looked at my son and was ashamed and hurt that he had marks all over his neck and a bruised body. I’m overly protective of my kids and would never allow anyone to hurt him so I’m very bothered.

Dear Tee – If you are hitting a child, it suggests you are still trying to destroy or repress the development of your own child self. In the dream you “kept asking his dad to get him before I hurt him”. Asking your inner father for help does not work yet; “After a while I looked at my son and was ashamed and hurt that he had marks all over his neck and a bruised body.”
It is not helpful to feel ashamed; there is a purpose though for healing the relationship with your animus; the male within the female.
In general we can say the man in a woman’s dreams represents the woman’s mental and social power, her ability to act creatively in ‘the world’. It also holds in it an expression of her complex of feelings about men, gained as experience mostly from her relationship with – or lack of relationship with – her father.
    Please read http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/archetype-of-the-animus-jungs-view-of-the-male-in-the-female/
Many people do not realise that they have an inner father equally as powerful as an external father. You have taken in millions of bit of memory, lessons learnt, life experiences along with all the feelings or problems met by loving and living with your father, and they are what makes you the person you are. This is true even if your father was never there for you – you still have all the memories of him not being there for you filed under ‘Father’. The memories and experience we gather unconsciously change us and are not lost. It is part of you and is symbolised in dreams as a person or event. Such an inner father can appear in dreams because you are still deeply influenced by what you hold within you.

-Erin 2015-03-23 13:52:05

I dreamed that my father punched me in the face because he was upset I drove home tipsy. He was waiting in the dark, while I was looking for something and said how I deserved it because I knew better than driving home tipsy. I explained that I wasn’t tipsy. The punch knocked me to the floor and disoriented me as I thought it was an intruder and began to fight back and protect myself. I began to yell at him after and left. After he hit me, a work friend of mine appeared to ask if I was fine and both my father and I played it off–that everything was fine.

*this has never happened in real life. My father never laid a hand on me. So this dream has taking me aback.

    -Anna 2015-03-25 11:17:11

Erin – In your dream you are exploring different ways to deal with your “shadow”. You fight it – “I thought it was an intruder and began to fight back and protect myself” – and you deny it –
“Both my father and I played it off that everything was fine”. To get a better understanding of what the shadow is, I like you to read
    http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/the-archetype-of-the-shadow/
Obviously you have been influenced by the way your father approached life, and, as all of us, you were not always fully aware of this, nor was he.
It is common knowledge that traits pass on through generations. Parents communicate behaviour to their children without any conscious intention and so what was once the influence of your outer father in your life now has become the influence of your inner father in your inner life.
I feel that your inner father does not allow you to let go of (ego) control – driving home tipsy – and this inner conflict is reflected by him hitting you.
Letting go of control is a way to surrender to a life changing influence, an influx of power or potential – i.e. a deep self-acceptance allowing new and often life-changing experience and energy both from within and from other people and events. In this sense the alcohol or spirit is probably used by the unconscious because the conscious self often feels helpless, or has to surrender control, in order to allow the up flow of what is potential or innate within you to emerge. It therefore relates to drunkenness (or being tipsy when you are still learning to allow Life to heal and grow you) – drunk with the spirit.

-Claire 2015-02-23 18:03:11

I had a disturbing dream last night that has shaken me up. I sleep with my six year old son as he is scared to sleep alone. In my dream, I “wake up” to him flopping around on me and I was shaking him and slamming him around. He cried and I went back to sleep (in my dream). I then reawaken (in my dream, but felt I was actually awake) to him asking for a drink Bc his throat hurt. This time I kiss him and tell him I will go get it. I feel “something” grab a hold of my calf and my leg burns. I get up and try to turn the lights on. They won’t turn on. None of the switches. But all the electronics like the clock and TV are on. I go to open my husbands door, it is cracked and I try to open it and something is pushing against it. Instinctively, I know it’s a demon. (I dream of them often). I push against the door as hard as I can screaming. He opens the door and I see a dark tall slim demon figure in the corner of the room. I point at it screaming “I see you! I see you! Get out of here!” My husband rolls his eyes and I know he thinks I am crazy. We both try to get lights on and he seems unconcerned that they won’t come on. We get to kitchen to get drink and I realize i have left my son unattended and the demon may get him and I panic and that’s when I really wake up. I woke up less than an hour from when I actually fell asleep and I am cuddled up with my son and try to process the fact that I really didn’t hurt him or see anything. I don’t know what this means but many times I dream of demons or that I am being choked on sand or that my husband is possessed or I am. They are always in my home.

    -Anna 2015-03-25 10:34:33

Claire – Most of us make the mistake of believing our dream images are all something outside of us. In fact they are all images underneath which are amazing destructive or constructive powers. Supposing one dreams of a devil attacking or possessing one, it is not an external devil, but is the person’s ability to create havoc with their own beliefs and mind powers.

    Here is another example:

As I looked I saw eyes shining in the dark. It was very eerie. I asked my father to get a torch so I could look down the hole. He went but did not come back. I thought he was frightened. The room was very dark, I saw a candle on the shelf, and tried to light it. It kept guttering out. Eventually I lit another candle that gave a good light.

Here the dreamer is meeting his fear of something, and the candle keeps going out. It is obviously his power of thought and belief that put the candle out, a destructive power. But as he faces his fear he has the power to be able to see clearly by using his power of confidence.
    Please read http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/beliefs/
I see that you do not receive much support from your (inner) partner in your (inner) life and that it will be helpful if you work on those issues, either with a counsellor in your own area, or you can join the Discussion Forum (click on it at the top of this page) where you can receive help for free with your inner (dream) work.
If you deal with your own fear, your son will most likely lose his fear (of sleeping alone) too.
Your often dreaming about demons is a signal that there is a need to learn something. Also the growth instinct is an incredible powerful one and pushes us through growth, sometimes unwillingly. And if we resist it can cause recurring dreams.
And so hitting your child in your dream has nothing to do with hitting your child in your waking life and everything with you still trying to destroy or repress the development of your inner male, which inner male is still like a fearful child too.
The first step out of this is to face your own resistance towards healing and growth, something we all have to face, often over and over again in our (inner) life.
    See http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/defence-mechanisms/
Perhaps you feel like reading the demons feature too in the dream dictionary and the feature about dealing with fear in a more fruitful way.

I was dreaming that myself and a blinds haired girl went to pick up my eldest so snd the blondes ex partner was there and slapped the back of my head and then my sons head and slammed the door shut. At this point I awoke in a angry state thanks

It felt like i was just sleeping, out of nowhere, I was hit in the face.. a full on smack or punch. I woke up screaming and my whole body was shaking.

    -Tony Crisp 2015-01-22 9:58:49

Jesenya – Considering that while we are asleep nobody else is in there with you I have to ask, “Why are you beating yourself up like this.” Whenever we dream its images are not like real life. because a dream is nothing like outer life where things could hurt you, but is an image like on a cinema screen that even if a gun is pointed at you and fired it can do no damage – except if you run in fear. So all the things that scare you are simply your own fears projected onto the screen of your sleeping mind. See http://dreamhawk.com/approaches-to-being/questions-2/#Summing

Drempt I punched my friend in the ear because he was going to call someone on me. After I told him to hit me back but he softly hit me,didn’t hurt.

-Rhegan 2014-12-06 16:03:51

i dreamed that I was at a fancy indoor pool setting and my ex was there and was trying to get me mad because he had just asked someone out and fully made out with her in front of me (just recently i broke up with someone). So I looked away from him and unwrapped the towel I was wearing and dove into the pool, then I felt my arms unable to move along with my legs and then I hit the bottom. People swam in after me and next thing I know I’m getting rushed down the hall of the hospital with an IV in my arm which I try to rip out but only manage to hit as it slowly makes me unconscious and causes pain to my head. I wake up in an empty hospital room with the IV still in my arm and a sign saying I need to change the IV myself and get a new hospital bed down the hall. I woke up after this.

    -Tony Crisp 2014-12-07 14:24:10

Rhegan – Your dream appears to be a story of your recent life experiences.

You start of feeling good about your life after the break. But there was a back lash, probably from your own imaginations that he was doing the business with another female.

This led to your exposing your real feelings and diving deep into your inner self – which in turn led to feelings of powerlessness. Not a good feeling – like drowning in your own emotions.

Then of course your rebound into the survival mode – where you come out of it needing injections of good feelings from others – or self administered help.
