Birth
When we were born, one world of experience ended for us and another began. When we witness the birth of a new child, we see a new beginning, the emergence of a new being and life. Birth is about the possibility of infinite potential expressing some of its qualities. Birth in a dream has the same meanings. So it can indicate the beginning of a new way of life; a new attitude; new ability; new project. But also the death of the old. See: first example under woman.
The birth can be about our own physical birth, its difficulties and trauma. But most difficult birth dreams are about coming to terms with our existence. Many of us are still wondering whether we wanted to be, or want to be, born. ‘To be or not to be’, that is still the question for many of us. Lots of us live at a remove from life because of this. If there are connections with our own birth, any negative feelings, fears and pain may need to be met before one can continue real development and growth in life.
This is not an easy process as birth experience is deeply primal and existing at the very foundations of our identity. Even if one manages to let this material rise into consciousness in the form of present day fears – such as loneliness, feelings of vulnerability etc – it usually takes a long time to move through them. To help with this process see the features on Life’s Little Secrets; active imagination; compensation, processing dreams. But if one had a very difficult birth in which one nearly died, life and death can get very mixed up in you, and need at some time to be met.
Example: I realised during this that I had gone back to birth because my fear of death was inherent in birth. I was afraid I was dying as I was born. I also felt that my chest pain could not be healed or got out of my being. Death was in us from birth, working away like corruption. We cannot heal death, we cannot get it out of us. Perhaps what I could do would be to open the rest of my being to it instead of fighting it. Maybe it was like my weakness and failure I had so long fought out of consciousness. If we admit our weakness, failure, our germ of death, perhaps death enriches as like our failure humanises us. Example: Ever since childhood I had a nightmare dream of being in a very confined bag and being suffocated, I try to get out of a small and seemingly impossible outlet. I used to dread this awful dream. Then, at the birth of my daughter, I realised my dream was of my birth. I never had a recurrence since. D. R. Hobs
This is very clearly a dream about her difficult birth. When the birth in your dream depicts a new phase of your maturing process, a new stage of growth, see the feature on individuation for clarification. In such cases your birth dreams may be an expression of huge changes in your life that are occurring over quite long periods of time.
The birth might have come after much has ‘died’ or been lost. Birth is also the moment of our coming into a particular set of circumstances. These include everything from the relationship, social status, financial wealth, education and background of our parents, to the physical environment in which we grew, the social customs and culture in to which we are born. So birth can also depict a sort of destiny, the taking on of a set of influences, burdens and opportunities. In the East this is all placed under the one word karma – the situation of ones birth, its working out in the present, and the streaming influences from the past. See: karma and past lives.
Example: I was in a room apart from friends and family, they were unaware I had the child but I knew they were expecting it with joy. I was trying to name the baby. It was a baby boy, but the name that came to mind was “June”. It wasn’t right and I kept trying to consider other names but none of them felt right. Just..”June”. The baby was a lovely blond boy with a wide smile, very happy. I am a single mother unable to have more children (I have no sons) and living a chaotic life but moving forward with help of friends and family. I have professional and moving plans for late summer but nothing in the pipe line for June.
This is the interpretation given for the dream in March – “What does giving birth to a lovely baby boy mean – and I take it no man was involved – it means that you, like any mother, can dream and create something that wonderfully adds to you. You create it from all that you have gathered of life, as if you have reached up to the sunlight, the clouds in the blue sky, and added the moon and stars, and pulled them into you and brought forth this little man.
For each child, whether a dream child or one taking on the weight of a body, is a birth of the whole of creation. For aren’t we ourselves, our very bodies, formed out of the mystery of the universe, and the bodies of old stars?
But in another way your son is a new aspect of you, something that hadn’t been known to you so far, with infinite possibilities. It is still young and vulnerable, so needs your love and care for it. But it will grow quickly, and then you will see traces of it in your everyday life – the new happy you.I think you should watch for signs of this little man growing into your life in June and flowering. Such signs are not usually very materialistic, but are new awareness and abilities that will be seen as you look back.” Then from the dreamer again in June – “I wanted to update you on developments that have been connected to my dream. Dates and times moved around and I find myself moving this month. A new start! On a very fun note, I also have begun a relationship with a man who looks very much like the little baby I cradled. I actually “recognized” him! It was really unusual and regardless of how the relationship turns out, it’s been a great awakening to have a bright, positive experience with a good man. Thanks again.”
Birth – even from a man – of a shining, talking or holy child: The beginning of awareness – not intellectual knowledge – of how the conscious self is interwoven with the processes and beings of the cosmos. This includes any unusual features straight after birth, such as being able to walk or sit.
Example: “Was in a basement where my wife and a woman I loved was giving birth to a baby, but I was somehow the one who gave birth to it without a doctor being there. It was a lovely boy. Its lower face was covered by a tight caul, but I pulled this off and it began to breathe. It opened its eyes and looked about, fully conscious; then said something about Jesus, and, “It is gone!” I asked what had gone, and it replied, “The other ego; where has it gone?” I explained that the spirit self it knew before birth was now gone so it could live in the body. The baby was then taken upstairs, and I felt it was a holy and wonderful baby. I was going to rest from the rigours of the birth, but on looking around saw how dusty and dirty the basement was. I began to clean it, and felt I would go upstairs and rest afterwards.”
The man who dreamt this said that he felt afterwards that at the time of the dream he had given birth to the very best of him. This became more and more obvious as years went by. Also he realised that his inner life, his unconscious needed cleaning.
Boasting about birth of child: Difficulty about responsibility of parenthood, but coming to terms with it.
Childrens view of birth: Many dreams of birth are symbolic attempts to come to terms with the fact of birth. It is difficult to accept accept. For children it felt that one was not born at all; one always was. Really it’s no theory but an instinctive spontaneous conviction.
“Recently my four-year-old son was inspecting a copy of a Raphael Madonna. He scrutinized it meditatively for a minute or so, then, pointing to the Christ child, announced, “That’s Michael Caldwell.” “Oh,” I responded. Then he pointed to Mary. “That’s Mama.” I nodded acceptance. Then he went on to bigger things. “He came out of her belly?” A little rise of intonation at the end showed he was looking for reassurance. I thought we were getting along fine. “Mama kept you in there cozy and warm until you were ready to come out.” He took it all in, puzzled it over, and then let fly: “Why did she eat me?” It was utterly incomprehensible that he had been made out of nothing, and most infants, could they communicate, would laugh at the proposition. However, as it must to all men, the serpent of knowledge appears in this Garden of Eden. Other children appear, little boys and girls talk about it, and slowly the uncomfortable knowledge grows that one had to come from somewhere.
Giving birth or Birth pains: The creative process; pain of arriving at a wider vision. Giving birth to a more mature self is a struggle. The NEW in our life is sometimes born out of such pains. If you are pregnant at time of dream this is probably about working out of anxieties about birth. See: birth dreams during pregnancy.
The mouth can also give birth: People often dream of giving birth from the mouth. The shape of the mouth is similar in some ways, and can also discharge things. This usually happens when the person has something important they want to say, and is a way of allowing lifein us to give thanks and birth to something new.
Recurring dreams of giving birth: The drive to have a child doesn’t stop just because one has one or more children. Many women, even past childbearing age, dream this over and over as in the example below. The urge to care, to love, to give birth, exists despite one’s age, and the dream may be a way of trying to satisfy that. The dream may also be, as with Pamela below, an urge to have a child of the sex dreamt of. It might of course be that you are incredibly creative and constantly ‘giving birth’ to new ideas or conceptions. See Woman’s Creative Power.
Woman’s dream: Desire to have a baby. Giving birth to a new aspect of yourself. Man’s dream: Envy of the creative ability of women. Giving birth to a new aspect of self.
Example: Thinking about the young monk – Hare Krishna – I met yesterday. I realise how much I still have to learn. I gathered hardly anything about him. He told me a dream that he had given birth to a baby out of his rectum. It was quite bloody, but he said he didn’t feel any pain. Just with this image in mind.
Example: For years I have dreamt I am pregnant. I go into labour in different surroundings, not always hospitals, with different people. I never see the child but I think it might be a girl, and the labour is different each time. I stop dreaming as the birth is completed. I have one 33 year old son – my only pregnancy. Pamela B. Example: I am on a table giving birth to a baby. It was very small and very ugly, with a hawk like nose. I am walking down a corridor carrying the baby, who is smoking a cigar. I must have had some feeling for the baby as somehow I lost it and was very concerned about its whereabouts. I must have found it again because I was walking down a street and passers by would stare and condemn me for allowing the baby to smoke. I awoke with stomach pains. Mark M.

Last night I dreamt I bumped into an old school friend. He was married with 2 children and his wife was pregnant again. While we were there she began to go into labor, my husband and I were helping her and he told me to put my hands on her stomach and I could feel the baby in the wrong position with the legs pointing down, I panicked and screamed for an ambulance but carried on helping, my husband went to her legs to help guide the baby out but only the bottom half came out- (it was horrible), I felt shock in the dream but tried to wrap it up so not to frighten the mother, the middle torso then came out, without the head and someone then made a half joke about how you wouldn’t expect that. I couldn’t take anymore at that point and ran away.
I’ve been having some very vivid dream lately but this one has really disturbed he, would be grateful for any opinion to help me work through it, many thanks
Three days ago I had a dream that I am pregnant and in a hospital with a few family members (I could not identify them) and then was asked to move to the labor room. I was asked to choose one out of my husband and mother-in-law to accompany me….I chose my mother-in law thinking that it may look odd if my husband comes with me for the delivery. I wanted to respect my mother-in-laws presence by allowing her to be with me in the room. She happily enters the labor room with me. No one was there in the room and I was in deep pain…I saw some blood on the floor and asked my mother-in-law to pass on a chair to me…But she was ignorant about my pain and didnot pay any attention to me ….she looked calm and was busy in folding her clothes…..I asked her to call my husband…She looked at me, smiled and continued folding her clothers without paying. Finally, , I myself went out and asked my husband to come in the room….He looked extremly worried and gave me a chair to sit so that I may deliver the baby….He did nothing except standing by my side. I delivered a baby and also cut the umbilical cord. I do not know whether it was a boy or a girl. The baby was wrapped in a cloth…and in the end I asked my husband to call the doctor to see that everything is fine…..
I shall be thankful if you may please interpret this dream.
Jaya – I see the dream as dramatically describing a family situation. It is one that in giving birth to a new expression of your togetherness with your husband – the baby – you felt pain through not being recognised as the queen of your household.
You also felt that your husband had not taken the role of ruler of your household, and so, “He did nothing but stand by me side.” It is a sign that the mother in law is felt to be the one with the most power.
You can change this by using http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/secrets-power-dreaming/
Maybe you could talk about it to your husband, saying what you felt.

In real waking life. My boyfriend of 6 years cheated. This isn’t the first time. I have been trying to process this situation since it happened yet again. Well, then I had a dream that I was in what seemed to be a doctor’s office (not the nicest) and then I was in labor and gave birth to a baby girl. The birth was so easy she literally slipped all the way out. My boyfriend was there. We were happy But we could not think of a name for her. It felt so real that I woke up trying to think of a baby name lol. Anyone have insight on what this may mean?

Hello!
I’ve been having very long, vivid dreams lately. Last night I dreamt about a friend (in the dream, no one I can remember in life) being pregnant. We were in a basement and she was smoking and I told her she shouldn’t because it was bad for the baby, but she didn’t care. Then she started having contractions and I asked her to lay down and saw the head crowning. I ended up delivering two babies (not giving birth myself), the first was very healthy and the second had gnawed off part of it’s own left leg and arm in the womb; her mother was there and said to put that baby away, and they would take the healthy one upstairs. No one was alarmed or upset as one would be in life. Everyone was gone then and it was just me in the basement after that, caring for the unhealthy baby. I stayed down there with it for a few days and one day I left and came back and it had disappeared. I was very upset that it was gone in the dream. Can you help me understand what this could me for me in life? I really appreciate it!
Dear Corinne – Did you also read http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/basement/?
Your dream friend who is pregnant may reflect your inner intuitive feelings about what has been developing inside you and what you are now ready to give birth to.
So please explore this aspect of your inner world by using http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson for your dream-friend.
It may help to read http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/characters-or-people-in-dreams/ too.
You become aware in your dream that “no one was alarmed or upset as one would be in life” when they see the unhealthy baby.
It is good to learn that the images in your dream are not to be confused with those in waking life.
What I can see in your dream is that with the birth of something new in your life, you also give birth to a part of you that is hungering for something.
This hunger for love or recognition from the outside world may have been the driving force in your development (your pregnancy in your inner world) and so it served a purpose.
With the birth of a healthy baby you do not need this anymore and so you can let go of that baby; it can disappear.
It may serve a purpose to explore what you felt/believed you needed from the outside world and what – with the birth of your healthy dream baby – you can give to yourself now.
You can use “Being the unhealthy baby” and “Being the healthy baby” to explore these feelings.

so early this morning I had a dream that I was pregnant but not very far along I had the baby. He was so small skin almost transparent but i wasn’t in any labor pain feelings. he was having trouble breathing and when he stopped I was and also my husband we’re trying to get him to come back to life we were able to get him to breath a little but after I stopped pressing his chest he stop breathing. he didn’t make. I am married and we have a boy it’s been a little hectic lately but I have never had a dream like this one
Dear Anonymous – You do not mention if you are pregnant in waking life and so I reckon you are not.
Your dream may reflect that due to your hectic time, something did not work out between you and your husband as a child can also be a symbol for “the fruit of your relationship”.
In waking life a spontaneous abortion takes place when your body is rejecting the unborn child because it is unhealthy or unwholesome.
So your abortion may reflect an attitude which does not support your relationship in a healthy way.
You and your husband may want to explore other ways of dealing with times that are a little hectic; http://dreamhawk.com/health-and-healing/managing-stress-part-1/

Tony, thankful I found your website. I too had a recent dream of giving birth. I am in my 50’s and never had children. I was away in the mountains and I was in a lodge and the people around me were mainly people that I either know or I recognized. I had a pain in my stomach and went to lay down and had a baby. When I pulled him up to me, he was a beautiful baby and was smiling at me and holding out his little arms. I raised him to my face and kissed his check and told him that I love him so much and he also put his little lips on my cheek like little ones often do to kiss you. My friends that were there told me that I had no need to go to the hospital that I’d be find and that the rest of the childbirth process would take care of itself. It did. I named my little one Anthony Steven. My alarm woke me up at that point and when I realized that it was only a dream I sobbed and sobbed for the loss of it not being real. This is the strangest part of it. Two days later, a close friend of mine told me she had the strangest dream about me. She dreamt I was pregnant. Why would I dream such a dream?
Dear Debbie – Birth is about the possibility of infinite potential expressing some of its qualities. Birth in a dream has the same meanings. So it can indicate the beginning of a new way of life; a new attitude; a new ability; a new project.
Your close friend may have become aware on some level – which may be still unconscious – of the change going on inside you and it may have inspired her to let a part of her that she calls “Debbie” become pregnant with something new too; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-dictionary/pregnant-pregnancy/ and http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/peer-dream-group/
With this in mind you could see your giving birth to a baby boy also as a way of expressing how your way of being in the world inspires others.
In that regard your dream is not only a dream, because it is manifesting itself in your waking life too; you make it real.
Your sobbing serves the purpose of releasing feelings that you have not had the chance to express and let go before and I trust it will help you embrace the idea that “dream children” can be real too;

Hi there
Last night I had a dream that I was pregnant and delivered a baby at home, the focus of the dream was not so much on the delivery of the baby but the placenta. The placenta would not come out no matter how hard I tried to “push it out” from my body. In the dream I asked someone to telephone the hospital to see if I should come in because I was worried I would get complications from being unable to deliver this. The hospital said I would fine, but I doubted the advice I had been given. Another woman and her husband were in the room with me and she was delivering her baby, I moved to someone more private to continue to try to deliver this baby. Hours went by and I was still unable to deliver the placenta, despite squatting and bearing down as hard as a could every minute or so. Towards the end of the dream the placenta finally “crowned” and I ran off to sit on the toilet to deliver it. I don’t remember any more of the ream after this.
Last night I dreamt that I gave birth to a little girl. I have had three children and I know the feeling when the child is being delivered. The dream was very real in that sense. I was caring for her but later in the dream a small child was carrying her in a moses basket and put the basket up on a high ledge. The baby fell from the ledge and died. I was watching this from afar and trying to tell the child not to put her on the ledge. I am quite confronted about this dream and would like to know why I dreamt of birth and death in the same dream?
Dear Jodie – What I see in your dream – and please explore it yourself as well http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson and/or http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/peer-dream-group/#dream – is that you have given birth to a part or aspect of you (vulnerability?) that is not appreciated by “the ruling inner authority” in your life. (My association with the “Moses basket”)
Perhaps because you are afraid that being vulnerable will overrule/manage other aspects of your inner world?
It could be that as a young girl you perceived being vulnerable as a very precarious situation and when this younger part of you “took over”, she decided that vulnerability is beyond your reach (perhaps also because of the position you have in your working life?); http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/autonomous-complex/
Being vulnerable is probably linked with the fear of falling and so with a loss of feeling confident or a threat to usual sources of security. Falling can also link with your social image such as loss of face.
The death of the child could reflect your unconscious decision – taken by your younger self – to deny/repress your vulnerable feelings.

i dreamed i was with my sister and i was pregnant and my sister pressed my stouch and told me to let the baby come out,and i told her it was’nt the time i was eight month and she forced me and pressed my tummy until the baby comes out.then the baby fell on the floor coverd with that thing that covers the baby on the womb.and the baby was struggling to breath then i cut that thing so that he can be able to breath, and i was vomiting blod clot and i was also bleeding on my private part.
Dear Joy – Your dream reflects an inner and/or outer situation in which you feel forced to give birth to something new in your life.
To understand what it is that you have given birth to it will help to read this http://dreamhawk.com/pregnancy-childbirth/the-baby-in-your-dream/ and explore the questions in this entry.
The vomiting could express that this somewhat premature and forced birth does not agree with how you wanted to give birth.
It serves a purpose to explore the relationship you have with your sister (is she older than you?) and how she might influence you to take steps or do things you are not ready for yet;
http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/self-observation/
If you feel that this does not apply to your relationship with your sister, then your dream could express an inner conflict in which you force yourself to give birth to something new in your life, while knowing deep within that this is not what you want yet.
Either way it will help to explore this inner conflict by using http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/acting-on-your-dream/#BeingPerson for both your dream figure and your sister in the dream.

Hi. Last night I dreamt that I was pregnant. I had a big stomach. And then I was giving a birth to baby boy. I felt everything, pain and so on… The boy was so lovely, he had green eyes. He was so cute. I was kissing him. He was like his father (my boyfriend in reality). Can you tell me what does it mean? I am not married yet… And I don’t have children too.
Dear Ann – Your dream baby is an expression of what you and your boyfriend have created together while being in a relationship with each other.

Hi everyone I have this dream I would like to share with youz. If youz could help in any way feel free to leave a comment.
Well last night I had this dream that I was in hospital sitting on my bed minding my own business and then a highly pregnant lady with burns all over her arms and shoulders runs into my room crying and asking for help. I then asked her what happened? how and why are you covered in all these burns? and she replied saying; it’s all self conflicted you wanted to burn yourself and you wanted to feel pain that’s why I did it. I was so confused and shocked at what this woman was telling me, I didn’t have a clue who this woman was and how did she know about what I was thinking. Then like I usually do I told her off and said to her your putting you and your baby’s safety at risk, look after your body and take care of your unborn child. As I was calming her down her water broke her body kind of just dropped and she was in labour. After I helped her on to the bed I hurried to try and go get help but it was to late the baby’s head was about to pop out. I was still shocked trying to figure out how did she come to no about the information she just finished telling me and now I gotta help her deliver her baby. Very quickly my night turned into day.
Well It didn’t take long at all, mum just needed to be encouraged and baby came straight out. Not long after her giving birth a illuminous doctor walks in while I’m trying to cut the cored. The doctor looked as if he was an angel with a beautiful blue glow but his nature and intentions was that of the devil and the way he spoke was very demanding, he then tried to snatch the baby off of me while I’m cutting the cored so I gave the baby to mum and pushed and shoved the doctor until I got woken up by the piercing pain on the right side of my bottom teeth. Arrgg my day has been so painful.
Dear Herena – Many women get pregnant in dreams without any man involved. And in fact you are pregnant now – not in a physical way (I reckon you are not pregnant in your waking life) but within you – for you carry a new life, a new you that can be born if you treasure it. The new life is a part of you that wishes to become active in your life, a part of that that hasn’t had the opportunity to be expressed before.
Of course it is shown as a baby because anything new in us that is seeking life is vulnerable and needs to be cared for and nurtured.
The realisation of what you hold within you unconsciously is projected onto the screen of your mind while you dream.
And so everything you see as outside of you (the hospital, the highly pregnant lady, your dream figure, the baby, the doctor) is coming from you, your emotions, your fears, your beliefs etc. and your explorations are all you, clothed in the dream images and drama.
The way I see your wonderful dream – and please explore it yourself as well http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/dream-yoga/ – is that you are willing to consciously look at an aspect of you – the highly pregnant lady – that you have ignored/repressed before.
It suggests taking a positive, healing step by letting go of an attitude in which you were unwilling to ask yourself questions and look for helpful answers within yourself; so a move towards a willingness to explore the inner world you have created; http://dreamhawk.com/inner-life/inner-world/#MakesInner
I believe that this part of your dream “and how did she know about what I was thinking” shows you becoming aware that you can have an open and honest dialogue with yourself and it can be perceived at first as confusing and shocking to be willing to look at yourself this way.
In our inner world confusion often precedes clarity. And so being confused can be good, because it is part of the change process. If things are staying the same, you are rarely confused. Confusion happens when you change and start to see/feel/sense things differently
Inner resistance and habits – http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/habits/ – can be overcome too – “Then like I usually do I told her off.” – and this you express in this part of your dream; “mum (you) just needed to be encouraged and baby came straight out.”
I believe that if you would have carefully read through your comment, you would have been capable of understanding (much of) your own dream, because you express your thoughts and feelings very clearly.
You then tell yourself to let go of hurting yourself (to burn yourself down; to humiliate yourself) – on the psychological level and perhaps also physical level – so that you can give birth to “a new you.”
Before you can give birth to something new, you have to let go of your “old self”; your old ways of dealing with yourself.
You become aware that when you are willing to help/support yourself – instead of humiliating yourself- that your “night turns into day”; your inner darkness makes room for “the Light” that you are.
I do not know if you are familiar with the way this inner process is described in the bible;
“Then watch out that the light in you is not darkness. If therefore your whole body is full of light, with no dark part in it, it will be wholly illumined, as when the lamp illumines you with its rays.”
For another perspective of the symbols that are used in the New Testament you might also want to read; http://dreamhawk.com/inner-life/yield/
You become aware of your inner Light and the healing it can bring you, when you see the doctor approaching you.
I believe that you also see “a devil” in the doctor, because you become aware – see very clearly – that in each of us is the POTENTIAL for creativity – the angel – or destruction – the devil.
It is up to ourselves for which purpose we want to use IT.
Another aspect of the devil is that there is still some fear to meet “the More than you believe you are.”
Your dream shows a beautiful process of inner healing and it expresses how your awareness is expanding on many levels; http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/levels-of-awareness-in-waking-and-dreaming/
I would appreciate it, if you would give me some feedback too.
Because of your awareness in your dream and the clarity with which you express your thoughts and feelings, I would like to know if you have done inner work (psychotherapy?) already.
I have seen many dreams like yours that cover a healing and growth process in one dream (in waking life this process usually takes a lot of time) and I wonder if the dreamer/you has/have gone through part of the process already, or if the dream is expressing a desire/potential for inner healing and a promise that if you dare to enter that process that you will be able to give birth to “the Huge that you are”.

hello!, Last night I had a dream that a coworker of mine was pregnant (she is in real life as well shes 31 weeks) and we were hanging out in what looked to be a hospital but was not. It was more of an abondoned type building, its hard to explain it. anyway we were chatting and enjoying one anothers company as well as others around us. Shortly after she began to go into labor, screaming in pain, begging for me to find someone to help her, I ran out to find someone and could not. Upon coming back to her we were somehow in a school gym and she was standing against the bleachers and had to push. I ran over to help her but before I was able to get to her the baby came out and landed on the floor as she was in a standing position. when she reached down to pick the baby up, it looked to be about 1 lb, very small and fragile eyes were not even developed yet and it’s skull was squished in to where the brain looked as if it was coming out of the skull and the baby was not alive. Suddenly after that a woman walked over to us and said something about the baby and the brain being gone. Can you please help me understand what this may mean, as I am worried for her because she is currently 31weeks pregnant, has been having contractions on and off and was pregnant a few years ago before having her now 2 year old son and she had a miscarriage with the first child. Her now 2 year old almost came at 30 weeks but dr.s were able to stop the labor until 33-34 weeks. any idea what this may mean? thankyou
Dear Ash – I do not see that this dream has anything to do with your co-worker and everything with the state of your inner world.
Everything you see as outside you is coming from you, your emotions, your fears, your beliefs, your joys and explorations and are all you, clothed in the dream images and drama. So when you dream of someone you should not feel you are dreaming about that actual person. As with most dreams, the person in the dream is not the person themselves, but is a collection of memories, associations and feelings about him or her that you use to create your inner drama in your dream.
Because it is your creation this dream, I suggest you explore it for yourself as well;

What I see in your dream is that at some point you have decided – consciously or unconsciously – to give up on the process that leads towards inner healing; the abandoned hospital.
Your dream suggests that without healing, giving birth to part of your potential can become painful and now you become aware that you need some help.
A school gym is a place in which you can take risks in learning something new, or practicing new skills.
And so you take a risk and decide to move on without help, but you have not found the right position/attitude yet; “the baby came out and landed on the floor as she was in a standing position.”
So whatever you were about to give birth to, you “dropped” and its death suggest the end of “the project”.
Then a part of you shows up – “a woman walked over to us and said something about the baby and the brain being gone.” – and she is the help you were looking for.
Both the premature baby and the help showing up afterwards, could symbolise being impatient?
Are you?
Can you give Life/yourself enough time to develop things and ask and then wait for help in whatever form to show up?
Are you aware of the decisions you take?
I ask because having no brain suggests that there is a lack of self-awareness.
Perhaps you feel like practicing self-observation? http://dreamhawk.com/dream-encyclopedia/self-observation/
