Crow Raven

Being carrion birds, and so often seen near corpses or roadside kill, so they are often linked with death or feelings about death; bad news; fear; unconscious feelings. Some people see them as associated with personal death, mostly because that is how they are used in films. But more often they are simply your own dark thoughts, probably about your own future, that you are doomed and on the slippery slope. So for goodness sake, realise that thoughts are creative, and you are creating an awful feeling and so you can escape from it. See Being the Person or Thing

It can at times depict the negative aspect of father. The dark intelligence in underhanded people or animals; forces in life that seem to have intelligent direction yet are not outwardly visible. Sometimes seen as a messenger between heaven and earth, an omen of death, and a seer of the hidden truth in the unconscious.

Crows also make their sound in flight, and then it is about telling their fellows where they are; a sort of positioning. Crows are a group bird and are supportive of their fellows. See Birds

Crows can sometimes mean that they are messengers from the dark or unconscious side of you. In such a role they can act as a protector – maybe even a male protector. But also they are seen in some dreams as showing anxiety and darkness in a persons life.

Example: In some ways, it felt like a death of whatever phase connected me with those who were holding me back through falsehood and imposing their ego-driven will upon me. In others, I felt the message was still to continue my work and ethic, regardless, and let these people carry on to their own kingdoms. I felt the dream in some ways reasserted this role I played in life.

Example: The other woman was also left where we slept and I saw again the same thing under her on my left. Two dead and drenched crows, either side of me as I still laid there. It also seemed/felt as if whilst both crows were under the women more than under me, the beaks of these crows had been touching, only just, my arms while I slept. I wasn’t entirely indifferent in the dream itself to this sight… the contrast, of elevated sisterly bonding before we slept, to the sight of this suffocated/drowned crows when we woke obviously created meaning..

A day that has death in it, for to go further in the road you are travelling you need to meet and experience death – psychologically – and that is part of life. I get the impression that to some extent you were partly suffocated by the love and care you received – as shown by the dead birds. That is not a bad thing, but it is now that it will leave you to develop independence. Independence is strange thing, because it is a lifelong journey, and yet we are never actually independent. But that is what the death is about and it is like an initiation into a new chapter of your life. Remember to keep the faith in our divine prosperity, and that we shall all secure it.

Idioms: as the crow flies; eat crow; Something to crow about; crow’s feet; old crow.

I’m my dream I see a raven Looking at me and then all of a sudden without any warning it flies directly into me and I immediately start shaking and entering what I assume to be sleep paralysis so I immediately started to wake myself up.

    -Tony Crisp 2018-04-02 10:14:10

    Tiffany – This is a very powerful dream; powerful because it starts to take you into an altered state of consciousness. Please see

    Your dream suggests that you are on the verge of a very great personal change of growth of your potential. The push to grow is often thought to come from ambition or ones urge to succeed in life, but that growth is usually from our personality, but the major source of physical and psychological growth is from the process of Life. People tend to think of life as an automatic and senseless process. But human experience in personal growth points in another direction.

    Vibration and shaking is movement, and movement is one of the main signs of life. Life and growth are interwoven, and one of the first signs of massive personal growth or change is shaking or vibration in the body or pelvic movement or even electricity running through your body; that is why the Quakers used that name, because they shook or quacked; also the Shakers had the same experience. In the widest sense nearly all dreams act as a process of growth or a move toward maturing. Some dreams are very obviously presenting internal forces or dimensions of experience that might lead the conscious personality toward a greater balance and inclusiveness. In fact although it is not generally accepted, growth is a tremendous instinctive force as powerful as the sex drive. Although our overall direction of dreams is an attempt toward growth and wholeness, it is not easily achieved because of the fears we inject into out dreams.

    It was not necessarily sleep paralysis; in life and sleep we have two powerful actions working in us. The first is our waking experience based on having a body, its limitations, vulnerabilities and a particular gender. Our second is the power that gives us life and continues to express as spontaneous movement in dreams, in our breathing and heartbeat – our life. This I have given the description as the Life Will.
    While we sleep our conscious self is largely or totally unconscious, and while we sleep and dream our voluntary muscles are paralysed – therefore another will or motivating force moves our body. So we have a Conscious Will, and what I will call a Life Will. The first one we have experience of as we can move our arm or speak in everyday activities; but the second will takes over when we sleep.
    This Life will can move us to speak, to move our body, and in fact do things that we cannot do with our Conscious Will, all that while we sleep and dream. As Freud pointed out this inner will has full access to our memories. It can do so many other things that are described else where – See
    Life Will created your body and pre-existed you as a person you know today. It was working in you prior to your ability to speak or know in the way you do now. But of course it has fantastic wisdom and skills, as can be seen in animals as instinctive knowledge. Such knowledge, that allows all life forms to do the amazing things they do, is not by our conscious thinking using words, but by a form if direct knowing and abilities learnt from their peers. But when that is added to our own conscious awareness our ability to know is magnified enormously, as demonstrated by Edgar Cayce already mentioned. So here are some ways of continuing the process –

Two nights ago I had a dream the two full grown Ravens were being born through a chimney on my roof. It was beautiful.. last night I dreampt a male cardnal was attacking and killing a Robin in the yard. Scary.
This morning, the crows are making loud squaking noises around my house. It’s a little scary because they sound like they are crying.

Any thoughts on this?
Thank you.

    Hi – I must take time to upgrade the dream dictionary, so must halt from answering your posts – I started revising the dictionary in 2006, and haven’t neared the end yet. I believe someone else may start giving interpretations.

    So, for a while I urge you to read – It describes ways that can help you. And often it would help too if you looked at

    The gem is an important part of your total awareness – we are like an island in a huge ocean in which there are countless other islands. The island – you – is above the surface of the water, which is like individual waking self-awareness. Because of this there is a sense of separate existence, with definite boundaries where the shore meets the sea. Beneath the surface however, one island is connected to all other islands. The land stretches away under the waves and rises here and there into other islands. So, it is thought, personal awareness, beneath our everyday consciousness, shades off into a connection with a collective unconscious we all share.

    To become aware of the complete you, you must swallow – or take into yourself instead of seeing it as separate. See

    Surrender is important –

Hi, my dreams seems extremely crazy. I’ve never had a nightmare that disturbed my sleep like this while writing at 5 am in the morning. Here’s my dream: I had a family reunion a day before the tragedy happened, one of my aunts had left her cellphone and purse in my moms bathroom. Tha day after, myself and sister stayed home while my parents went out in the morning, my sister I believed was 22, I’m 18, almost 19. (Btw I’m the oldest sibling, I don’t have a sister. I was cooking for her eggs and making myself a tuna sandwich. While I served her her food and sat down to eat my sandwich I noticed she was looking outside my apartments door, I looked out the window and there was a huge black possessed looking crow, it’s wings expanded bigger than my door width. My sister was mocking the crow, I told her to stop because he was getting angry. She kept mocking him while laughing. She thought it was funny. I told her to please stop because I saw the crow was furious and flying around now. All of a sudden he came straight at our door that was locked and started trying to open it even though it was locked. I started panicking and told my sister I was going to leave in my moms room, I ran and told her to come but she was laughing mocking the crow repeating “OPEN THE DOOR YOU BASTARD!!” Before I closed the door and locked it I saw the crow got inside and starting poking my sisters eyes and eating her, I locked the door and then got inside my moms bathroom and locked that door too, I could hear her screams that were soo shivering to think about. She sounded like she was dying in so much pain. I was panicking and having anxiety attacks in the bathroom. I didn’t know what to do, my boyfriend was texting my phone asking why I was lagging so I couldn’t use my phone. My aunts cellphone she left in my moms bathroom staring ringing and I think the crow heard it so he attempted to open my moms room door but he stopped after a second of attempting. Then it all became quiet but I didn’t want to go outside to see my sisters blood and corpse so I remained there. Sitting down with my hands on my ears and head. I was rocking myself. Plus I didn’t know if the crow had left so I wasn’t going to risk it. I decided to grab my aunts cell phone and call the police, I was telling them I needed help and told them what happened but the lady seemed so uninterested, I gave her my address and she said she would send help. Later I called again to verify I had given them my apt # complex. They still sounded uninterested, it’s like they knew who I was already. When they said they were on their way I heard my parents come back. But they didn’t scream, my mom came to her room where I was at and I got out the bathroom, I told her I needed to talk to her because the cops were on their way. My dad came and asked what was happening because I was panicking. I started telling them what happened but my mom seemed uninterested, then my boyfriend called and he was on speaker and he was asking me wtf I was doing and why I was ignoring him so I threw my phone. I proceeded to tell my parents and my moms face went from uninterested to a horrified face… My dads went too. My mom then said “Prizmah… You don’t have a sister… No one was here with you.” I said “What??…” And I turned to my dad and he said “Prizmah… She was never born.” And the last thing that happened was I walked towards the kitchen. There was no blood, no food, no corpse, I was just staring in blood shot eyes.
I don’t know what this means. It’s very confusing. I assumed the crow killing my sister was her never being born. But my mom has never had miscarriage, it makes no sense. My dad had told me in the past that I have an older sister in Mexico, but I never knew if I should take him seriously since he jokes a lot. If he does he’s never seen her. We don’t talk much about it when he’s told me three times. So yeah I know in my dream I was crazy of hallucinating. Or maybe nothing happened. I don’t know. Hope to hearing your interpretation.

I dreamt this morning that I found a raven on my dressing table who was blind and in a state so I looked after him and gave him water and food and a perch. He told me, telepathically, his name was Arnold and he could see and hear everything that was happening around, even outside my house and he showed me in my mind’s eye. Some people were after him for his power and I hid him and fought them off. He told me that I had to kill him and eat his heart and I think he said I had to eat his eyes too. I was upset at this as I wanted to protect him but he told me that he would only die temporarily but then he’d come alive in me and we’d be one. I was still upset about this as I don’t go around killing animals and I’m vegetarian, but he told me to hurry. I woke up before anything else happened. Am I completely bonkers? My feeling from Arnold is he is wise, told the truth and was generally a very likeable and loveable bird. I didn’t get any sense of death or disaster from my dream.

I had a dream last night in which i was searching a massive, mostly concrete hospital for my fiance. She is pregnant and was in the dream as well. I finally found her alone in an exam room and two black crows were flying about. They spoke to us saying that there was a procedure they needed to prep my fiance for. I caught the birds, one in each hand, with my grip around there chests. Immediately, they began pecking at my wrists and hands. I took them to a door and threw them out and then left myself to go find a doctor to get another opinion about what the crows claimed. I couldn’t find anyone and when i returned the crows were back and saying the same thing. I told them they couldn’t do anything to her and they attacked me, diving towards my chest. I grabbed them midflight, this time by their necks so they couldn’t harm me, and they squawked and crowed loudly. I took them once again to the door and threw them out. I then realized there was an opening above the door they could return through and then i was awakened by my fiance. Very realistic feeling and vivid. Any ideas for potential meaning?

    -kate b 2016-12-12 22:24:14

    Hello Samuel. I was very interested in your drream. I wonder if the concrete hospital represents the masculine secular world where the view of health is one dimesional, and perhaps the crows represent the ancient and femine wisdom- perhaps the pregancy has sparked that contradiction between the two worlds. Perhaps try to dream it again but don’t fight the crows, just listen to what the crows are telling you? Just a thought.

-Kate Ludlow 2016-08-26 21:34:42

I dreamt of 2 crows flying looping around near me. I was at first a little frightened but fascinated by them (I believe it was a stormy setting) I was sad in the dream . The 2 crows suddenly flew at me in tandem and flew into my chest . I was at first shocked but then felt a sense of comfort . I had just found out I’d lost my baby when I dreamt this and can’t help but link this dream to my 2 miscarriages .

-JJ 2016-06-21 13:32:45

In my dream, I see this raven. It is quite large with striking blue eyes. The raven is starring at me. Perched behind the raven are two eagles. The raven takes off in flight. The eagles launch an attack in hot pursuit of the raven. I watch the battle in the sky.

-James Simons 2016-05-21 1:27:45

I was asleep in my bed in my house and a massive Black Crow came flying through the window. It was squawking and flying around half coming towards me and half trying to escape the room, and I was half trying to get away from it, and half trying to usher it out of the window, but each time i got it to the sliding doors, the doors were only open about 3-4 inches and it would turn and come back around.

Eventually, after about 3 attempts, I found myself at the bottom of the stairs and in the kitchen half being afraid of the crow and wondering how I got to be downstairs and is the crow somewhere downstairs with me, and half considering going back up to the room to try and deal with the problem and get it out the window.

Then, instantly, I found myself at the foot of the second set of stairs to my house in the mini landing of the U bend, a massively tall person appeared from my bedroom with what appeared to be an old rice field Vietnamese style hat on their head, and hanging from the side rim of the hat all the way round were lightly colored (but not white) towels that looked old and tatty, yet clean and kinda thrown together in no particular order. I was afraid, but I did not run, I just backed up slowly and watched the massive person under a shroud which covered there whole face and hung down to there knees, come towards me very slowly, step by step. The person had lightly colored blue cloth trousers and was waring what appeared to be big heavy boots, construction worker style, covered in mud. In the persons hands was a large cardboard box, within which I realized must have been the crow, and I was no longer afraid.

I backed up towards the corner of the landing slowly and the person slowly came to the last step and walked past me with the cardboard box and I could hear the crow squawking and see the box move as the crow struggled and flapped trying to break free. The box was not sealed closed however, with just two flaps of cardboard over the top lose, and I remember thinking why can it not get out of the box? The massive person holding it (with hands I do not have an image of in my head) slowly walked past me on the landing. I could not see the persons face, but had the distinct feeling they were looking at me and watching me as they passed.

As the big person slowly walked down the steps and I followed them down slowly, i watched as they walked out of the front door holding the box, down the drive way, onto the street and eventually out of view.

I was afraid for my wife and children’s safety as soon as the crow came through the window as my first emotion and then fight or flight kicked in and I was torn between the feeling to run and hide, or deal with the situation and remove the crow from the room. I was afraid for my wife and children’s safety as my first emotion when I found myself downstairs wondering where the crow was and then the deliberation of fight or flight kicked in. However, when I found myself on the landing and the person first appeared, I did not think of them once, it was only until the person had left and was out of view that I turned to see my wife looking up at me smiling, and I hugged her and said “she’s gone now, no need to worry”, and saw the kids running and playing and it flipped to a different dream.

Once the flip happened into the dream that I cannot remember, my conscious mind, whilst I was sleeping, started thinking and said as clear as day, that the last dream about the crow is one that I should remember, it is significant, and I should tell my two friends Jim and Fon tomorrow, make sure you do, and do NOT forget it… I did not wake up immediately however, Instead i drifted off from conscious thought and slept thereafter, for how long I could not tell you.

    Dear James Simons – In your dream you seem to be caught in limited “either/or” thinking which does not leave room to more creative solutions; to think out of the box; “I remember thinking why can it not get out of the box?”
    This is also symbolised by the massive person whose vision is limited by “lightly colored (but not white) towels that looked old and tatty, yet clean and kinda thrown together in no particular order.”
    Do remember that everything you see as outside you in your dream is coming from you, your emotions, your fears, your beliefs, your joys and explorations and are all you, clothed in the dream images and drama.
    So if you feel like it you could explore this aspect of you by using “Being the massive person under a shroud which covered there whole face” and being the “crow in the box”;
    The worries you feel for your wife’s and children’s safety may reflect the concern you feel for your inner wife/female and your inner child selves.
    The woman with the hat in your dream also reflects that your feeling reactions are a response to your thoughts;
    Your child selves reflect freedom, creativity, energetic resources and all the daring, playfulness, creativity and spontaneity of those early years.
    Your thoughts trigger fear and that triggers the “fight or flight response”;
    When your limited way of thinking leaves the stage, then you become aware how your state of mind and your feelings have changed; “I turned to see my wife looking up at me smiling, and I hugged her and said “she’s gone now, no need to worry”, and saw the kids running and playing and it flipped to a different dream.”
    You have decided to share your dream with your two friends Jim and Fon.
    Perhaps you also feel like exploring your dream with them?
    Anna 🙂
